Quote:This is the only part of your thread I agree with, but boy do I agree with it. I am increasingly feeling like we're participants in Positron's wet dream and it's increasingly difficult for me to engage with the game, because it's pushing us in a direction I fundamentally dislike - but I'm still here as a VIP so maybe something's going right.City of Heroes isn't about the players. The devs are telling stories and benevolently allowing us along on the ride.
I actually enjoyed the part where we got to learn somebody else's story. That was a very neat touch, and so long as it doesn't get flogged to death I like it.
You might not like that element of it... and I'm not a huge fan of the revamped DA so far - but that's because I'm not a fan of Horror... but horror is a huge comicbook tradition, and so needs a place in Paragon. But even then it works for me and the DD trial in my limited experience is far to superior than the turd soup of the TPN for example.
I've not managed to explore all of I22 but I'm impressed with what I've seen so far (mostly). In one sense the OP seems rather ironic: He wants to RP in his own head [which is totally fine IMO] and being given some insight into the motivations and thoughts of the NPCs he interacts with is a problem? ermmmm? -
Quote:I'm not sure if the current server architecture could handle it, or if server transfer fees are a too important cashflow, but turning all the current servers into shards of a single server to allow fluid movement bewteen the shards would be awesome.
Like if you were on the Defiant shard, you'd just need to bring up the shard list, select the Victory shard, and one loading screen later you'd be on Victory.
To streamline it, there could be the restriction that when you switched shards, you woudl always end up in the zone you were in on the previous shard, which would cut out the need to have a list of all the zones pop up when you were choosing the new shard - like if you were in Atlas Park on the Defiant shard, and switched to the Victory shard, you'd end up in Atlas Park there too.
You know the Magic room, the hidden one on PI... (I think it was an arena entry once) put that somewhere accessible and signpost it... everyone who wants one of the new trials, DFB, DIB goes there, and they can effectively be copied to a "new" server and rewards get fed back to their original toon after they exit. -
Quote:It is not cross server.
Maybe you should put into your server's global channel: I just signed up for a Drowning in Blood trial. Hope many of you do the same so we can play it!
I could do that easily enough. I just figured I'd use the tool the Devs gave us. But... not using the tool the Devs gave us is clearly far more efficient. -
Quote:But what if two people have the same name and queue into a trial? :P
You tag all names with their server for the trial duration. So I'll be "Scarlet Shocker (Defiant)" for the duration and you'll be "ShadowMoka ([I don't actually know what server you play in but you get the point]) and problem solved.
Job. Done. -
Quote:It really should be cross-server, to get the most out of the system.
Letting people enter from missions maps is a good first step, but it still needs more to make it work properly.
I agree. Not making it xserver is rather... well pointless given the other ways we have to communicate -
ok well I learned something I guess, not cross server.
I don't normally have an issue getting a DFB if needed so I presumed that DIB would be popular. I guess it's just not as popular. I'm sure I can form one easily... but usually queuing for a DFB gets a result.
Probably just a lack of people running DIB whilst they do 50 stuff in DA -
Quote:What server is it on? I haven't done dib myself, but I recall playing on alt. servers and spending a long time trying to get into a DFB. I also see way more people forming DFB over DIB still. People like what they're used to, I guess :/.
I'm not saying the queue isn't broken, of course. It very well could be.
I thought the whole point of the LFG is that it's x-server, but Defiant if it's not. It shouldn't be an issue given that DFB is run frequently. -
I've tried queuing in it for several hours... twice now. Nothing.
Maybe it's sucky and nobody likes it? I wouldn't know. -
you can spend a very very very long time in a 5 minute queue for the DIB.
Is it broken? -

don't most enemies have a longer range than we do? They could TP foe like a snipe and gank us... on my SoA I would put "pummel" on auto and then TP foe to my feet. That resulted in a nice rifle-butt-to-the-nose mez that enabled me to shoot them to death.
Of course, it's a lot of tech to add to teh game that popping an orange negates. -
inhale the moment you're immersed?

Quote:Interesting, isn't it, that aliens, demons, interdimensional superbeings and every other form of nasty critter is focusing all this energy not on London, not on Paris, not on Tokyo (which, granted, has trouble enough with monsters already) not on New York or Washington DC, but on some furshlugginer little city in friggin' Rhode Island?
London has the Olympics. That's plenty enough gruesome to be worrying about thankyou very much.
But to take on Tony's OP, I agree; Both sides need to have some of the stories concluded - there's a lot of open-ended stuff in the game and some of it could actually be wound up nicely to show that there has been some progression and that what you are doing is making a difference and driving the story forward. -
Quote:Not gonna lie, I was actually underwhelmed by Blue Steel. I was so pumped to fight him, duking it out with the legend. And then he pulls out a baton and starts smacking me with it. That left me going "Eh?"
I always though Blue Steel was Martial Arts/Shield. He seems like he kind of guy to throw punches and brawl with enemies, not use standard police weaponry, especially against a super villain. Martial Arts, or better yet Street Justice, would've suited him much better.
Probably too much like Captain America to be comfortable for NCSoft Lawyers - in but in CoH meme parlance would be "Blue Steel broke time so he could go back and teach Cap everything he knew" -
Sounds like a Nemesis Plot to me!
Seriously, congrats and may you both have a wonderful life together -
I saw "regarding regarding" last night on one description. Might have been the DD iTrial

I mostly play trollers, so I had figured an Earth/Cold might be good too, given Earth has such a good -Def

I've gone and confused myself looking in Mids for the Ultimate Debuffer. Something that will get through not just Defence, but Resistance too. The idea is to be able to provide the best support to small, specialist teams for surgical takedowns of AVs on high difficulty in TFs and Trials.
I often run small TFs, 2person LGTFs and 3 man STF etc, and I would like something that gives the iTrials some oomph in a word.
I'm leaning towards a Cold/Sonic Defender - but I've also seen good things from a Sonic/Rad, since they both seem to offer a fair bit but I think Cold/Sonic gives the good stuff earlier.
I've gleaned all the above from Mids, and whilst it's an excellent prog, I'm not sure I'm especially proficient in it so my interpretation may be somewhat off - thus I'd welcome some input into what works well and gives the best results. -
Flying Disc: Misnamed. Too expensive. Unsold

ah ha! Thankyou people that makes a lot of sense!

It seems a friend and I were discussing level shifts and one of us is clearly misinformed about how they work.
I had always understood that you get an extra level with the relevant shifting powers, so you can shift to 50+3.
However he seems to think that you can only be level 50+1 - in other words, no matter how many level shifts you have you still only get +1.
That seems rather odd to me - it disincentivises any reason to get the other level shifts, and counter to my experience, but I figured I'd consult the oracle and see what it brings.
