  2. It was done to stop the spambots.
  3. Sketch Sale List

Hey guys! Gift giving season is upon us, and while I'm working my patootie off getting the last three pieces done for White Peregrine, Vort (who's on hold til i11 due to potential character reroll), and my friend Kris...

I totally understand it's hard to come up with funds for major commissions, and this is why I've decided on a sketch sale!

Prices and previews available at the top link!
  4. If you're a poor student, NOW is the time to ask for one of these for the holidays Seriously I cannot recommend them highly enough.

  7. Hey I need a support group, and where better to go?
  8. This site is no big secret, and yet many folks don't know about these guys.

If you're serious about learning things like creature design, tech design, design in general, how to use Painter, etc, then these DVD's are phenomenal.

We watch them on a regular basis in my Visual Development class and you can see a lot of lightbulbs turning on over student's heads. I promised LJ that I'd pick out a few that really helped/worked for me, so here's a few of Goat's Gnomon DVD picks:

Visual Storytelling by Ian McCaig (check out the rest of the volumes, they're also awesome)
Feng Zu: Fighting Robots Vol. 1
    An Introduction to Corel Painter
  9. Bah I'm a bad person for not commenting again on this LJ, the fix makes a big difference, very nice indeed
  10. That's because the brush tool in Illustrator is a lot like the pen tool in Photoshop, so you can alter the points on your line with the white arrow and black arrow at the top of the toolbox if a line is selected.

I'll come back to this thread tomorrow. I need sleep
  11. ...we really need to get you a Intuos 2 or 3 LJ It's teh sex.
  12. Hmm don't worry about the nibs. One thing you can do if you're trying for a different surface feel, you can tape a piece of paper over the tablet and draw on that. It'll give you a less slick surface, some of my friends swear by it. I didn't like how it felt though

I've not seen that book #_# However, the one thing that did help me understanding Painter was any/all Gnomon DVDs on the subject. I'm spoiled since our library has them all, but I can point out a few that might interest you if you like
  13. Ah no, the brush stuff was for Photoshop, not Illustrator, my bad for not clarifying.

Hmm and yes you should be able to set brush diameter foo... just differently. I'll get back to you on that. So the Plasmastream piece on the other thread was entirely CS2?

I dig the examples LJ. Painter can be fast, if you know how to set up, but the setup takes forever. I did a whole semester of life drawing in Painter, it took us at least 45 minutes to get our palettes set up, and our brushes adjusted. But after that it was pretty darn fast. I like it more for oil type painting.
  14. Hey LJ!

I see what you're trying to do with the style. If you're trying to do marker, watercolor, either any/all... Just remember that the shape of what color you set down should describe the form or mass.

I think one of the problems on the Plasmastream piece (while drawing is very nicely done) is that the color application looks a lil sloppy in comparison with how you handle your other pieces.

    Try this:
Under brushes, try turning on minimum diameter to about 25-35% so that you get some nice pressure sensitivity. I've also found a lot of fun out of playing with the shape dynamics on the brushes and angling them, it should give you some fun results with this kind of style.

The other thing you is set another layer on top of your flat colors (no, your color's aren't flat, I meant the first layer of color XD) to do a universal shadow in say, a rich purple then play with the opacity of the layer and layer types. You'll find a lot of ways to get the same look, but a lot faster
  15. Hey LJ? Question for ya, you're using a tablet right? What I think would help is getting some pressure sensitivity in coloring. Just a thought
  16. Beeeelieve. Also, Turbo, who the hell did your icon? Cuz I really would love to see more of their work, and it seems familiar
  17. Weeeeell done. I LOL'd. And I don't do that often XD
  18. Congrats on getting a certain someone's attention And a very cute lil micro indeed.
  19. Thanks again guys! Alt, the idea of doing a White Tree card sounds particularly awesome, so I'll add that to my list so I don't forget.

I'm also definitely doing at least a few cards of the scene with Eowyn and the WitchKing... There will definitely be Olephant cards as well, and a few Wargs.

Remember this thread's always open for suggestions on cards, as while I have my own perception of what folks would want, it's nice hearing it from you guys
  20. Ah got a note on the cards. There shall be no Saruman cards. Christopher Lee did not sign off on the cards idea so no cards of Saruman :/

To see some of the other work, you can glance through the artists here:

  21. Mm, there's a quick fix on this piece you could do LJ... Everything looks good cept that leg on the viewer's left. It appears tweaked at that angle. It just needs like, a 15 degree rotate up. It'd also be a stronger pose with the leg straight out You don't really need to redraw, just use the magic wand to draw around the whole leg and rotate it with the transform tool

I dig the dynamic pose here, looks really nice
  22. Well this is based off the movies, so we still have to remain respectful to the story
