I liked the old comic. I was actually glad there were no stories about Statesman, because:

    1) We don't see Statesman in the game (till much later) so the comic more closely represented the day to day lives of the player characters, pick-up teams etc.

    2) I don't really care for the "Statesman" character at all, so personally I'm not at all interested in finding out more about him.

Additionally, I happen to dissagree that "Make it dark" is a failsafe way of creating interest in a storyline.

Sorry, not gonna read all that. Yes, I kow, WL n00bs are annoying, still they are- however unfortunately- now a fact of existance on CoH for the next few months perhaps till the ones that are inclined to learn the game do, and the ones that aren't leave the game altogether or roll new characters and play them up "proper"...

Do you have to watch who you team with? Yes. But then again you had to before the Winter Lord thingy too, so wah.

The devs don't owe any of us an apology for providing us an extra event above and beyond the release of I3. Yes, it may have been a bit botched up, but rush jobs often are. Would you prefer we had no seasonal events from now on?

    So, in conclusion:

    Deal.

    Thank you.

It just occurred to me that being upset about upcoming and unseen issues in this game (or in any situation, really) is somewhat akin to complaining about March because you don’t think you will like the weather and then demanding that there be more June. None of us here have any real idea what the weather will be like in March, or what the entirety of the next issue will be, so getting flustered about what may, or may not every really happen strikes me as a bit unnecessary.

Correct! Arucard from Hellsing, one of my favorite anime series of all time.

The name from the manga and anime is pronounced "Alucard," but the Japanese alphabet does not have an L (when translated). The letter R is the closest letter translation. Or so I'm told.

...wow, I couldn't be more off topic if I tried. Sorry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Rrrgh...Spell Alucard backwards, darn it! Alucard is the *correct* spelling, as the most famous vampire of all time is not *Dracura*!

    [/ QUOTE ]

He's also not basing himself on Alucard from the Castlevania series, Kosh. He's based on Arucard from Hellsing, and he's using the name as it is used in the translations of the series. So really, the whole "Backward Dracula" thing doesen't work here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually it does since the only reason the character is named Arucard is because just like in Castlevania they wanted to be cute and spell Dracula backwards. The reason it's an "r" instead of an "l" is strictly due to the translator's discretion.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Ok I’ll go back to beating a dead horse. I am not saying I won’t play, I never threatened to leave the game, I am not saying I hate issue 3, I am not complaining about content of issue 3 disagreeing with me. I am not saying the devs or NC soft is evil or bad for continuing the status qui of the industry.

I am asking, for them to be even better than the status quo.

That is all that is it. I am dreaming, I have my head in the clouds.

    Here is an illustration:

I rent a house; I can pay monthly or sign a longer lease. The people who I rent the house from continue to expand said house. Every few months they open up the new parts of the house that they were working on and let me habitat that area too. I love this house. One day after the owners opened up a new part of a house, I noticed some holes in the wall. Now these aren’t huge holes. And as it is a new area of the house I expect there to be problems. However then I found out that the owners knew about the holes before they let me into the new parts of the house. They a) did not fix the holes before letting me in or b) if they couldn’t or wouldn’t fix them before they let me in, they did not tell me that there were holes.

    That is my “beef.”

I did not post to discuss whether issue three is good or bad, I just want as I keep saying either release something without any KNOWN bugs or let us know there are known bugs and what they are.

For instance now knowing that glowies do not make any noise right now, when in missions I am extra careful and keep my eyes open for them. Pretty simple solution if you ask me. It will be fixed, but until it is, for me, I need to be aware of it.

If you want to complain about something else there are plenty of posts to do so. This was not intended to be one. This is not about whether the holes are huge or whether they are tiny, this is about the fact that some of the holes were KNOWN, and no warning was given.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I get it, and I agree. There should have been some sort of official statement about the choice to go live with known bugs, before the roll-out.

    [ QUOTE ]
He did not say acceptable. He said inevitable. Those are two very different things. What he means is no matter how much testing you do, there will always be some bugs that slip though. It's just a fact of programming.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, you are correct. Two different words. HOWEVER, accepting that bugs are inevitable IS accepting them. They no longer try to get rid of them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you saying that you are a programmer and if you were one of the devs you could release this issue with zero bugs? How long would you take one year, two years, or maybe three years because you are afraid of releasing it with bugs.

Remember this is not the only mmo that has released updates with bugs. I have been told that SWG was released with bugs and all updates had bugs (although I have never played it).

All the poster is trying to say is the devs are not perfect and will make mistakes. Now I would like you to prove to me that the devs never fixed a single bug at all. Yes never, this means this game would have the same bugs that it started with. This would need to be true in order for your statement to be true.

    [ QUOTE ]
However, accepting bugs are inevitable is accepting them. They no longer try to get rid of them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not being served, that's being shown eternity
  15. You know, I'm gonna have to be honest and say the way this was handled was definately sub-par, the trends of the computer industry in general notwithstanding.

I remember the "don't worry guys, we're delaying it till its perfect" post by Statesman, and I have been directed (by other posters in other threads) to the list of known bugs. I have also noted the dates on which the bugs were identified.

The "delay to make it perfect" post by Statesman occurred after the known bugs were identified, and yet the issue was released with those very bugs. This raises the question of what exactly the bugs that caused the delay were?

Edit --- Statesman answered this query here
    [ QUOTE ]
Because the changes we made are not necessarily things you would notice. Stability. Networking. Databases. Just because a power wasn't changed didn't mean there weren't people working on the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

However, that fact aside. If the Dev team decided, as Statesman has said, that the bugs present were not sufficient to delay the rollout, then they should have said so BEFORE rolling out the issue. If this post:

    [ QUOTE ]
Yes, there are some bugs - that's inevitable. Typos, etc. A team gathers these from the forums, puts them in the database, and then we have at them.

But sometimes a bug isn't serious enough to hold up a release - that's when we decide to go live with something. We know that there might be some niggling details to address over the next few weeks.

As for the Invulnerability, Kheldian, Burn, etc. feedback - all of it was read and considered. We were pleased with the data we received and thought that the changes met our goals. That isn't to say that we might not tweak these things further - but by and large, we are happy with the changes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

or a variant thereof had come before everyone dug their teeth into the release, there wouldn't be so many threads dedicated to pointing out the documented issues that weren't fixed.

A little pre-emptive damage control works much better than an explanation after the fact.

I know that I am going to seem like an idiot for asking this question. I have seen lol and fotm a lot. What do they mean?

    [/ QUOTE ]

"lol" = laughing, sort of. "fotm" is "Flavor of the Month", or the powergamer's current uber-build. Very often whacked repeatedly with a nerf bat when the next issue goes live.

    [/ QUOTE ]

lol and for the questions that raised:

    lol= Laugh Out Loud
Nerf= have your powers or abilities reduced in some way so that you feel you're attacking with a nerf bat (usually meant to mean you've been made innefective at your ability)

The following are Known Issues with the 12/23 version currently on the Test Server:

    - If you complete a respec while hovering, you will remain hovering until you zone

    - Unable to form Task Force with Woodsman if team leader is exemplar

    - System message for Healing Flames indicates that you are protected from Disorientation, but you are not

    - Energy Absoption does not give Defense bonus for additional villains

    - Enhancements do not increase Toxic resistance on Unyielding

    - Mission objectives no longer make sound

    - If you are completing a respec a Kheldian, you are not able to assign Enhancement slots to some inherent powers at the correct levels

    - Also for Kheldian characters, if you have deleted the level 50 character on your account, your respec may fail. You can fix this by logging your level 50 character in and then completing the respec.

    - Tough Hide is named P2055730324

    - Deflection Shield does not give Toxic resistance

    - Outdoor missions do not count down mission objectives

    - Council Mek Men is not visible from afar

    - Zone exit not marked on Striga Isle map

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is that still unrepaired, or are we both just guessing?
  18. [ QUOTE ]
There was no give, no slight adjustment, no anything for the Inv. changes, save a fix to the drastic bug of having Unyielding give a 50% debuff rather than the intended 5%.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Without giving an opinion on which is more favorable, this really boils down to just how willing you are to alter your playstyle to fix the hole Unstoppable has left. That and how you're going to use your free respec. In addition, it depends on if the outcry after live is sufficient for the devs to roll back the change.

If I remember correctly, a bug was found over a week ago that all powers mentioned above gave resistance to Toxic attacks. Look for a thread in the test server about it.

Really I agree about typos and bad string tables, but the ones involving defense and specifically Toxic protection are the most inexcusable if they were not addressed.

Toxic protection will be practically required with all the Vahz missions you get through level 20, heck 2 whole story arcs involve Vahz. And 90% of their attacks will be Toxic. Very bad choice considering you just got an influx of new players.

I don't write on boards much but I must voice my complaint.

This update 3 has totally changed the way the game is played for me. I spent 6 months working on my DM/INV scrapper to where he is now and "you" have taken most of it away in 1 swoop. To boot I just logged on and can not even respec out of it. Can I get a credit for the days I can't play?

I have played massive multiplayer games since the beta of Ultima Online. I have never seen such a drastic change to a class as this one was. The fact that I must rebuild my character just to play again is absurd. I have $50+6 monthsx$15 plus hundreds of hours and you show your thanks this way has me beyond upset. I have now payed and spent a lot of my personal time for something I don't want. It shows how little you care for the time and money commitment us long term players have invested in this game.

I can't wait for car companies to start modifying your car 6 months after you get it because it is too fast or too this or too that. I wish you would spend your time growing the content, making more challenges for your so-called "uber" AT's rather than changing their original utility and play style.

People play this game for the fantasy but you have crushed that for many of us.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to agree with the points you've made here. I'm not sure what the situation or the solution is. I suspect telling you that you agree to the whims of the devs (no matter how unfair) really won't make you feel any better.
  23. [ QUOTE ]

I still don't know why they asked for testing. If it was going to happen as is. The only thing I think they fixed was the -50% D on test. I am just pissed they talked me into doing testing.
