  1. I remember that room. I loved it! I'm sure it's a PITA if you're in a hurry, but I was happy to see something different from the usual run of the mill. I had fun exploring it, and was actually disappointed when the mission completed. Too bad it isn't used more often.
  2. This one features four of Moggie's characters: Quality of Mercy, Joyeux, Gentleness and Gamer's Widow. They'll never meet in-game, but somehow they met on this street. You'd think they might have been more sociable... but no, they decided to rumble.

    Hope you enjoy, Moggie!

  3. Nice site design, very fun! They did a good job on this.
  4. Those are great! What better way for heroes to dress up for Halloween, eh?
  5. Excellent video. I didn't have any problem with the music at all, I thought it was great. Really outstanding on all counts, fantastic job!

    Joyeux in 3D

This was supposed to be a WIP for another piece I'm working on, in which Joy makes an appearance. But I was so happy with how she turned out, I decided to give her the full treatment. So Joy will be back soon in another scene, but in the meantime... here she is! Hope you enjoy.

Is it true that Vue Infinite (or even the other versions) will read Poser's MAT files and come up with Vue equivalents?

Are there any drawbacks to using Vue with Poser figures? I used to use Lightwave but I hated redoing all of my textures whenever I'd bring in a Poser figure. I like using Carrara with Poser but I'm always interested in improving my images and workflow. That's why I prefer DAZ Studio to Poser.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, it is true. You can either have Vue convert the Poser shaders to the Vue equivalents, or you can actually use the original Poser shaders. I think Vue does a better job, so never use the latter option.

I don't see any drawback at all to using Poser figures in Vue. In fact I rarely use the Poser renderer any more. When you import Poser figures, you can even re-pose them in Vue if you want. This is slow, though, so I pose them in Poser and then import to Vue when the pose is how I want it. You can also import entire animations, though I've never done this either.

My big thing is, I can actually do more in the way of environmental work in programs like Bryce. Plus the rendering turns out better.

I just wish I didn't have to go from Poser to Daz to Bryce. It would be nice for Bryce to be able to read the Poser file directly.

Perhaps a later version (I'm using 5.5) or an add-on will do this... but I'm cheap.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I found Bryce's interface a bit too arcane for my tastes... and coming from a Poser user, that says a lot, haha.

I tried Vue Infinite and fell in love. Not only are the terrains a lot better than Bryce's, but the Poser import filter is seamless - until Poser 7, which isn't supported for some reason. That single fact has kept me from upgrading to Poser 7.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I'm using Vue 6 Esprit, and it imports my Poser 7 files just fine. Maybe there's a service release you don't have? Anyway, I use Poser 7 and Vue 6 and they play great together.
  9. Well, in light of the fact that you can't have too many Nurse Whites running around -- or so it seems to me, anyway -- here is my rendition of Nurse White. I hope you like it.

To answer your question, yes, as Rocket Boy mentioned Poser is more of the "doll house" concept. In fact, that's how I often describe it to people when they ask what it is. It's pretty easy to learn and use, but it can take a lifetime to master. And despite the kind words above (for which I'm very grateful), I still have a lot to learn.

Anyway, congrats on 50, and I hope you enjoy my rendition.
  10. Thanks for the kind words. So I it you wouldn't object if I took a shot at a Nurse White render?

I could never afford 3DS Max. I use Silo, which is much cheaper. And I'm still well in the noob range when it comes to modeling. Fortunately for us noobs there's Poser, which doesn't require it!
  11. What??? I thought you were the keeper of secrets on Virtue.

Maybe you're the keeper of virtue on Virtue?

Well, be that as it... ah... may. I might just have to look into this Nurse White business.

    Soul Train in 3D

Thank you all for the positive feedback!

Yes, it is begging for effects. Unfortunatley, I'm terrible at that sort of thing. I did try to add a few things, including the electrical arc on the juicer, but in the end I thought my efforts degraded rather than improved the piece. Some day I gotta learn how to do that kind of thing.

    Soul Train in 3D

Here is my rendition of the one and only Soul Train.

I have to apologize for the length of time it took me to complete this piece. Sorry man! RL stuff took over, and my art ground to a complete halt. Sorry it took me so long to get this done, and I hope you like it.

Comments and constructive criticism are welcome as always.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I really love this piece. Thanks for doing such an awesome job on it!
  16. I've been going through the same thing lately, learning how to make my own objects, and now working up to armor pieces and such. Maya is definitely out of my price range, too. If you have a little money to spend, I highly recommend Silo. Version 2.0 was just released, it's $159, and well worth it in my book, I find it real easy and intuitive to use.
  17. Very nice, all of them!
  18. Thanks, Doug, and I didn't mean to sound argumentative. Of course, you're certainly right. I have a book I got for Christmas called "Secrets of Poser Experts" that features the work and insights of some incredible artists, and the one thing they all have in common is that they use their Poser renders as a starting point -- and do most of the "real" work in Photoshop. That's something you taught me a long time ago.

But anyway, enough hijacking of the thread. I think we can all agree with Soul Train's " master" assessment, and this piece is definitely a prime example of master-ness. Or something like that.
  19. Stunning work as always, Doug!

You already know the high esteem in which I hold your work (and your opinions). But I do have to rebut one thing...

    [ QUOTE ]
In fact, I think anyone that shows a raw poser render is selling themselves short. Poser isn't an artist and it can only put out what it's told... it's the person BEHIND the program that makes the image worthy. Why so many stop at the render phase is beyond me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Speaking only for myself, I have to say that a big part of the reason I pursue 3D is that I'm simply unable to draw or paint anything that even comes close to the image I have in my mind.

It may come easy to you, and it may be a result of years of practice -- most likely, both -- but not everyone can do it. The times I've tried to draw or paint, whether using computer software or traditional media, have produced pretty dismal results. If I were to attempt the degree of postwork that you are able to achieve (and I have tried), the results consistently look nowhere near as good as the original render did to begin with.

I definitely salute and admire your ability to not only produce excellent renders, but to take them so much further. It's what makes your work so outstanding. But for some of us, our best bet is to get the software to do as much of the work as possible.

Thank you! You know your opinion means a lot to me. Actually, that was rendered in Vue, which I got in large part due to your recommendation. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement!

I don't normally make a big deal about WIP's, but in this case I was so happy with how it turned out that I thought I'd share. Comments welcome as always.
