Originally each spoke counted both ends of the metric, so "affects allies" was at one end, and "affects enemies" was at the other (on the inside). Any power that could be considered both or neither was counted as half. It ended up being a little too complicated so I just stuck with the outside metric. I think you're right though, adding an "affects enemies" spoke would do pretty well, and I may do that.
As for range, I consider it a primary attribute of most squishies, and it is somewhat advantageous to be able to play from range. Recovery Aura is a PBAoE, so no, it is not ranged. Dispersion and Force Bubbles are also PBAoE, so they are not counted as range. Resurrect and Mutation are both casted on a ranged target, so those are counted as ranged powers.
I actually wanted to add more metrics but I wanted to keep it even (the angles are easier on six and eight spokes than on seven). Now I just have to remember what the seventh metric I wanted to display was.
I was also thinking of adding icons to the middle of each shape: one for "has healing" (using the healing cross power icon), one for "has shields", maybe "has anti-mez", and "has reoccurring buff that people are going to ask you to spam" (Fortitude, Speed Boost - using who knows what icon.)
Oh yeah! Pets! That was the other metric I was thinking of including. (Anything that can be dropped that follows you around, so admittedly not many in the De/Buff world, but a couple.)
Unless someone can come up with a better metric to add in with "affects enemy". -
I dunno, I personally consider "targets ally" and "toggle" to be weaknesses, since in the first case it means you can't use the power when solo (unless you have pets) and in the second it means you have to keep expending energy to use the power.
I like Pain tho, far better than I liked Emp. Dunno why. But it amuses me that my two favorite sets (Trick Arrow & Traps) look so similar graphically, and they both look utterly different than my least favorite set (Emp). -
Hello!
I know a lot of people are going to look at this and think "...what?" but I really like statistics and I enjoy representing data in easy to digest ways. So a couple years ago I started working on representing the De/Buff sets graphically, and it has finally grown into something that I think others might find useful. Here at a glance you can see some of the major differences among the sets, and see the sets that are fairly similar. I know it's not "new news" to anyone who is used to playing squishies, but I enjoyed the exercise and learned a lot. So without further ado..

(if, for some reason, you want any of the graphs individually)
Please let me know if you see any errors in my data, I've already refined the graphs several times due to general errors and brainfarts. I hope some of you find this useful and/or entertaining! ^_^ -
I'm throwing in my votes for previously mentioned items:
- alternate (more subdued) animations for Dual Pistols. I think the animations look really cool.. but they're so spastic that I think I will get sick of them pretty quick.
- alternate animations to all eye-beam powers. I have a thing about my eyes, and I absolutely can't take any of the eye-beam powers. They totally squick me out.
- adding elemental swords for all (or more) powers in each set that has access to an elemental sword, and possibly sets that are elemental and don't have swords. I keep making /ice doms just because I love ice sword circle so much. I started the game as an ice blaster and watched jealously as a friend used her fire sword circle all the time. I wanted an ice sword circle so bad, and I glee every time I use it on a dom.
And something that has probably been mentioned but I don't have time to read the rest of the thread:
- alternate animations for any of the "using a keypad on my arm" powers, such as summoning and upgrading bots. Also alternates for any tech based animations (medi pool comes to mind) so that they can be more believably used by non-techy toons. (Not all of my bots MMs are actually techy, and none of them wear gloves that support the "keypad on my arm" animation as believable.) -
Quote:See, that's one of the bad things about blanket statements: they try to encapsulate everyone under one umbrella, which is often in conflict with reality.it's not like anyone who cares is suffering from some massive shortage of prestige.
I care, and I am suffering from a massive shortage of prestige. I realize I am a minority, but I think this is a really nifty bonus. Eventually my one-person (/several-alt) VG will be able to afford the last TP beacon I want to put in. This will help.
Thank you Devs! ^_^ I'm happy that the badges keep coming, the bonuses are icing on the cake. -
Seconding the asymmetrical request, heehee! ^_^
Nicely done David (or whomever came up with the design)! -

Thank you David! Thank you Sexy Jay! Thank you thank you!
I had no idea I would be this excited about one piece. Yes, I've wanted more animal bits for quite a while, but I thought I'd just be like "yay!" - but no! I am all atwitter over just this one piece! I've had a character idea mulling around in my head for a while but was unsure what direction to go with her, and seeing this, now I know! THIS IS SO AWESOME! -
Quote:Someone said this to me once in-game as well. Except it doesn't only happen to me when the chat window is hidden. It happens all the time. Any time anyone sends me a tell at all. Ever. Even if I'm staring at my chat window. The really fun thing is, if they send me a tell and then enter a window where *their* chat window is hidden (level up, costume, etc) ... then the auto replies start bouncing back and forth. I send them one, they send me one, I send them one, they send me one... until they exit the screen. About two a second. The "chat hidden" setting is automatic. If your chat window is minimized, turned off, or behind a full-screen something else (such as training), anyone who sends you a PM will receive a note back saying your chat window is hidden. This is simply to let them know you haven't seen their comment and probably won't be making a response anytime soon.
There is no way to turn this off. However, it only happens when your chat window is hidden in some way - so if you don't want it to happen, size your chat to very small and leave it up.
Though it makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that my chat windows are in tab 2 instead of tab 1.
I MUST TEST THIS!
... Never mind. It has apparently already been fixed on live. YYAAAAAYYYY! -
What exactly is this setting? I apparently have this enabled, because I was auto-replying to tells.. but I don't know what this setting is, why it is enabled, or how to disable it. When the bug first started happening I tried what I usually try when people can't invite me to a team or send me a tell - I brought up my global hide list, selected everything, saved it, brought it up again, unselected everything, and saved it again. But that didn't work for the chat reply bug. I have never seen this setting in options and don't even know what it does, so I don't know why it's enabled on my account.

I would like to chime in and say that I really enjoyed the idea of the event. A couple things to consider for next time:
- It was often hard to find KK. I added him to my friends list, but he was often out of range. I kept losing track of him because of all the chaos, both the massive number of people and pets, and also the CoT and zombies.
- Two dozen L54 CoT mages was not fun. When my team wasn't getting team-wiped, we were getting chain-held and then team-wiped. I agree that giant monsters, or perhaps variable-level mobs (as in normal zone events) would have made much more sense. Keep in mind that even though our team was SKed to a 50, that meant most of us were L49. Fighting +5 CoT bosses with 30-second holds and apparent 200 yard range. In massive power-click lag.
My team quit the event and went back to doing missions shortly after KK made it to the Midnighter Club. Except no one on my team (except me) knew he'd made it there, because we'd team-wiped so often that we had no idea where KK was. I only knew he finished his journey because someone said so in global. My team was so utterly fed up with the lag and debt that they utterly ignored the ?Archmage?'s announcement. I didn't want to PuG for this kind of event and no one in our global channel wanted to deal with it, so I ended up logging. I'd really like to know what happened with the rest of the event.. I was hoping someone would post here.
Again I really, really like the idea of the event, and was excited to participate. There are just a few things that could have been executed a little better. Thank you very much for the unique and interesting event! ^_^ -
You know you've been playing too much City when...
... you nearly blow through a stop sign because you're frantically looking for your chat window in the corner of your windshield.
... you see a plaque on the side of the road and scream "BADGE!" and have a hard time convincing yourself not to pull over.
... you keep trying to use right-click or page-up/mouse-move to rotate the camera angle for the web page you're browsing. [edit: I see this is a common occurrence.. heh.]
... you schedule vacations and appointments specifically so they don't conflict with 2xXP weekends.
... you take Thursday though Monday off from work for 2xXP weekends, tell all your friends and family "Please don't call me", and stock your kitchen with quick-to-ready food.
... as soon as the alcohol induced buzz kicks in the first words that come out of your mouth are something along the lines of "Oh hey about this thing in City..." ... even when in the company of people who have never played a single MMO ever.
All from personal experience, of course. -
Wow. I went from 291 rating this morning to -158 right now. Apparently time for me to bow out of the thread.

Quote:Ahhhh, makes total sense now. Thank you. (I have done less than 5 LGTFs total ever, and have done maybe two Hami Raids since i7. So.. yeah, not so "up" on how they work anymore.)Myriad, the green mitos have super high damage resistances if they are not held. Holding them drops their resistances so they can be defeated much faster.
Quote:And people are upset because we again have tweaks being made to the game without any patch notes or testing process. Some people take hours to get to the 'weakened hamidon' mission and then hit a brick wall. On test, that's acceptable. On live, that's really unfair.
But moot point atm, as expected Castle has said he's fixing it this very afternoon, and bringing the hold back down to a reasonable level. -
Quote:Ahhh, I see what you're asking. And since I now understand your question, I can't answer it. Basically: if they were spamming their heal when they were held before, why does it matter if they can no longer be held? They're still spamming their heal, why is it any harder than it was before? No, both of you were clear enough. I guess I wasn't clear enough to make my point. Sorry about that.
I was unter the impression that this:
was a fix to a bug that came with I17 simply because I didn't see people talking about it before I17 and I never experienced it myself before I17. Whereas the first post by Castle in this thread indicates that the bug is at least as old as the LGTF.
My problem with this and the source of my confusion is the fact that the LGTF worked before I17. And it seems to be broken now. If I read and understood everything we had permaheld Mitos that healed other Mitos before and have unheld Mitos that heal other Mitos now. So what exactly makes the LGTF harder now? Mito Resistance is from an Auto power, so that shouldn't be suppressed when held. Again, no change here, so what makes it harder now? I would go and check it out myself, but it seems the LGTF is not very popular atm, couldn't find or build a team so far.
And yeah, I don't know the answer. -
Quote:I don't see the point of locked doors being to slow players down, I see it as a method to enforce participation of certain content. If you can steamroll +2 and up, that's awesome. I've been on those teams and it is lovely and fun. However, if we're going to be rewarded based on "difficulty to complete (X)", they have to do something to make sure that there really is some difficulty in (X). I certainly don't know what "the answer" is, if there even is one. The only true solution may be to revamp the whole way rewards work. As someone pointed out in another thread, the whole system is getting kinda bulky.. we have inspirations and enhancements, salvage, recipes, merits, tickets.. it's fine for those of us who have been here to watch the game grow, but it probably seems insurmountable to someone who is new to the game. (Or games in general.) But the way I see it, there's all kinds of neat content that people miss because of skipping. That's certainly a player's choice, but I wouldn't begrudge a TF/mish designer for putting locks on doors to make sure that people see the content you worked so hard to design. ^_^ To each his own, though.Locked doors for the sole purpose of slowing players down? Just no. That's bad design and doubly frustrating in a game of superheroes/villains who are already limited at every turn. No need for another half-baked contrivance just to cater to those who cannot stomach differing playstyles.
Besides, there are 'speed' runs that roll over everything at +2 and barely take 10-20 minutes longer than those that skip as much as possible at +0. You might as well be clamouring for Terra Volta-style gameplay for the whole game, or for inspirations to be removed. -
Quote:I'm not sure how else I can phrase this, though apparently my earlier reply wasn't clear. Are you sure about the numbers? Wouldn't it mean that one Controller is enough to hold a green Mito during a Hami raid? My last Hami raid was too long ago, but I think I remember that we needed to stack multiple holds to stop green Mitos. And wouldn't it mean that LGTF Mitos were never able to heal themselves or other Mitos? Something they actually did.
The mitos were indeed executing the heal power. The whole reason this bug was discovered is because they *were* executing the heal, even *while held*. That's the point, that's what opened this whole can of worms. You could hold them, but they would heal anyway.
Also, you still need multiple holds because they have Mag-2 and then another 50 on top of that. So they're -52, meaning you need Mag53 to bring them up over zero. Which is fine for the Hami Raid version, but obviously not so great for a team of 8. -
I absolutely agree that the "fix" was not done in the best possible manner (or even, in a "good" manner), but I don't see the point in the fury I'm seeing in this thread. That's all I'm saying. Yeah, it needs to be looked at and fixed properly, and I think Castle pretty much indicated that he was going to ask around and get this done. I don't know how the chain of command works, but he may have had to get permission to put the current change to live (and the permission-giver didn't realize the ramifications either), and now he has to get permission to change it again or roll it back. He may be working on it *right now*. So I do agree that this wasn't executed well, but I disagree with the bitterness and wrath that people are shoving at Castle.. just seems a little short sighted and mean, to me.
-
Quote:That's what brought this whole thing up. Mitos were perma-holding themselves, but the healing power was still set to execute while they were held. So it got fixed that they could no longer use the power while held.. but Castle *also* fixed them so they no longer permaheld themselves. The debate now is exactly what hold mag protection they're supposed to have, because the general consensus is "mag50 is unrealistic unless you expect us to run with nothing but Controllers and Doms".And another thing bothers and confuses me as well. All this talk about green Mitos permaholding themselves. I might be completely wrong about it, but wouldn't a held green Mito stop healing itself and other Mitos? I have done the LGTF often before I17 and I have seen the green Mitos at work.
Quote:I'd like to see this on more TFs. TFs used to be great for XP but now almost everyone seems to be a rushing through; even if there are people who would like XP on the TF. I'm sick of asking if it's a speed run, get told "no", only to join and get TPd from boss to boss. This seems to have become more frequent over the past two or three issues.
There aren't a couple of dozen other TFs redside. If the content is there we should be able to play that content. I don't think anyone would suggest you have missions which are deliberately unable to be completed.
People are complaining because:
1) It was a dumb move by the Devs to mess it up the first time
2) It was even dumber move to 'fix' it so it can't be completed
3) There is no assurance of a fix in the near future
Frankly after the MA lies - yes lies - I have zero confidence in an expediated fix for this problem.*
Quote:TFs shouldn't require you to have all those buffs/pets in order to finish anything.
Speed TFs are fun for some and not for others, which is fine, no arguments there. I like speed runs because they challenge you beyond the norm of the game. Spiking Cyst solo is no easy feat for most builds for example. The "fix" made the LGTF harder for everyone, not just speed teams. The LGTF is no longer a TF where any AT works, you *MUST* have enough control to reach 50 mags of hold. Or as stated earlier a load of temps. -
Quote:To be fair, there are a lot of people who hate speed runs. You define them as "fun", others (myself included) define them as "way, waaaay on the suck end of not fun". I specifically recruit for TFs as "Normal paced, not-a-speed-run" so people who specifically want a speed run know not to join my TF. In fact, even the not-speed-runs on the ITF tend to go too quick for me, I miss the days of fighting up Lag Valley, and taking over the computer terminals so the pop-up turrets fight on your side :[ Also, I would guess that most people don't do speed-runs for the "fun" factor, they do it for the "more reward for time spent" factor. Which may be a part of their fun, but if I had to put money on it I'd say that IF the reward wasn't based on time spent, and IF running the TF faster meant a reduced reward over spending [some standard time] on it, many of the speed runs would stop. But again, that's still exploitable. I don't know what the fix is, but I know nothing will make everyone happy. *shrug*While you are at it, just put a timer on each mission that won't let people finish until it expires . That way speed runs would be completely impossible. The game would be about as much fun as watching paint dry but it seems to be heading in that direction anyway.
In all seriousness, speed runs aren't the problem they are the fun. Instead of trying to kill the fun in the game, there should be more concentration on providing incentives to run TFs on higher difficulty settings and determining the inherent difficulty of the TF not trying to use merit rewards as some sort of regulator valve for allowing IOs to enter the system. -
A mistake was made. Luckily the universe hasn't imploded. In the meantime there are a couple dozen other TFs you can do, and hundreds of hours of other game content. There's also a whole bunch of stuff you could be doing outside of the game, and possibly even in the real world. So sit back and relax, and wait for the fix to come down the pipe. No use in getting worked up over it. ;]
-
IIRC this question was asked before, and the general answer was "No, because it's too exploitable." Though I don't know how it's any more exploitable than the current setup, since a team could (if they so desired) start a TF, log out for an hour, and then come back to finish it up just to increase the complete time. But I doubt there's much of this going on, because obviously the people who do speed runs are too impatient to try this strategy. I mean I agree with you, but I think they've already said No.

Quote:I'm pretty sure this is a mistake and will be corrected. And as an aside, I have a Blaster with four single target holds and can stack them to effectively get between mag 12 and 24 on a single target. There are plenty of Defender holds too. In fact I think some Scrappers and Tanks have access to a hold or two too.. so just "requiring a hold" does not necessarily mean that you need a Controller. (Requiring Mag50 hold pretty much requires a Controller, or several, but again I think this is a mistake and will be corrected.)So let me get this straight: If my team does the LGTF and does NOT have a hero that has a Hold power (i.e. a Controller), then the whole TF is a failure???
This is the problem with CoH. Content that can only be completed if you have the right archetype along for the ride. That is hardly what I call Game Balance considering that not every team is made up of one of each archetype.
Quote:name calling solves what?
edit: that's a very odd business practice to ignore paying customers. What happens to a company when they do that?
Second, Castle doesn't represent "The [whole] Company", and if ignoring people who provide no useful input (and instead only wank) lets him get his job done in a more efficient manner, I don't see anything wrong with that. He probably doesn't actually put anyone on ignore (probably most of the Devs don't), but I would be surprised if he didn't start skimming past certain people. Because again, I can't read this thread without think "WAAAANNNNKKKKK". Not as bad as on other forums to be sure, but still, wankery it is. -
I see a third option: He fixes it because that's his job, and then puts the creeps, whiners and jerks on ignore.

HAhAHAHHAhAhahAH! *inhale* AAAAAAAhhAHhAHHAhAhAHHAhAhaha! *wipes tears from eyes* Whoo boy, I needed the laugh, thanks!
Quote:Haven't seen any redname even acknowledge its a problem, why would they fix it ):
And the numbers of recipes when sellingthem to vendor are even smaller
There's also an issue (has been for a LONG time) where if you scale your UI down (to 65% definitely, but possibly other numbers), the power tray has a tendency to migrate upwards when you zone. Not every single time, but often enough that I find myself yanking my tray back down a couple times per hour.
Quote:I'm still getting it too. Try jumping backwards, that usually will get me unstuck.
As far as I know the reward is a badge? -
Actually I wonder if it has less to do with adblock and noscript, and has more to do with cookie deletion. I run both of those addons, as well as Better Privacy. I have Firefox set to delete all temps/cookies when I close the browser, and never remember any forms/passwords. Better Privacy also deletes all of the "flash cookies" which are a special kind of temp cookie that don't get deleted by Firefox. So yeah, I pretty much have no idea what's new and what isn't, but I don't spend enough time on the forums for it to bother me. (I also no longer get viruses or malicious scripts. I finally made the switch to Firefox with adblock and noscript when ConFiker ate my registry and I had to go buy a new copy of windows. Just because someone embedded some script on someone's DeviantArt page. Shame.)
