  1. There ought to be something in here about how and when Set IOs are disabled if you exemplar underneath their level.

Is the entire enhancement disabled? Is it only the set bonus? This is something that is still not made clear anywhere I've looked, and it's why I don't use Set IOs at all. Seems pretty pointless to me to get all these minor extras if when you exemplar underneath them you're crippled.
  2. I have some that you can have if you want. They taste like almonds.

(The last guy who took them died, but they might still be good...)
  3. I only saw one image so I'll have to take your word for it. Regardless, nuking the whole thread instead of just removing the offending link, then nuking a subsequent thread that was started with a simple question, is still way out of line. It also displays a disturbingly capricious and heavy-handed moderation approach.
  4. Frankly these rules, or rather the enforcement of them (thanks to their vague nature), are becoming draconian. When zenvious' Jade Ohm commission is deleted, that's just getting prudish. There's no way it was indecent by any metric. The mods are way out of line removing that one, and it marks the start of a very disturbing trend.

I'm sorry if I am coming off hardcore about this, but that's the way of it.

Somehow, I just can't convince myself this sentiment is actually sincere.

Hmm. I must not have been communicating well, sorry about that. Undefined wasn't necessarily what I meant when I was talking about implied texture.

Let's take this image as an example. It has large areas which are largely undefined, without significant detail; the floor, the rafters, the sky itself, even the large uniform color patches of the pillars. And yet there is a ton of texture in there, created by the brush strokes and various colors used. They don't detract from the focal point of the work, but they do add a lot of visual richness, a sort of 'grit' to simulate the texture that canvas would lend to traditional media. Craig Mullins' art is a fantastic source for finding observing effective compositional principles.

Actually, even just for the fun of it, browsing through goodbrush.com is an awesome thing to do. When it comes to digital artists, nobody does it better than Craig Mullins. I periodically visit the site just to browse, like a fine art gallery.

So yeah... I opened the link and my jaw dropped.

Fantastic piece. The only critique I could offer would be that there is so much detail on the lich's head and helmet area that everything else feels kind of... flat by comparison. One of the things that digital painting lacks is something called implied texture, which comes about in physical media thanks to the combination of the brushstrokes and the interaction of the medium with the substrate. It makes things look more detailed than they are by giving the eye some variation to pick up on in any large uniform area. When painting digitally, this implied texture needs to be consciously included, otherwise you get that "digital feeling" which everybody recognizes and usually calls "flat" or "plastic" or, pardon me while I grit my teeth, "Photoshopped". This painting has a lot of large uniform areas which could really benefit from implied texture (the sword, the foggy silhouettes, parts of the grass), all the more so because of the excellent level of detail contrasting with them from the skeleton's head.

Actually, the sword could use some re-tooling; because of the color change on the blade, I get the impression that the tip of it above the bright reflection is displaced into the fog beyond the skeleton. It's a weird optical illusion caused by everything in the background being blue and everything in the foreground being yellow/orange/red. Also, the reflection itself creates tangent (I assume unintentional) with the line of the skeleton's cloak. Moving it down the blade a touch farther would probably make the point of emphasis in the piece a little less confusing, since it currently competes with the skeleton's face.
  8. Yeah, Rough 2, not 2b, is the way to go. Compositionally, dynamically, it's the best one. There's something really really wonky about Comrade's right arm, but that can be fixed.
  9. I know you don't know me, but I have Flash and know how to use it. A slideshow .swf would be simplicity itself. Send me a PM.

Will she then be Ghoulish Ghoulish Ghoulish (Ghoulish)?

Screw "the man" and post anyway.

That's how I feel about it, being an art college graduate and all.
  12. I just said that Ouroboros wasn't an acceptable alternative. Flashback sucks for a couple reasons. Forced Exemplar is one; what's the point of being level 50 if you can't use all the cool stuff being level 50 gives you to explore new content? Lack of rewards is another. You're not going to get purple IOs, for example, when exemplared, since they're only level 50+ recipes. Additionally some enemy factions are markedly better to fight at higher levels than lower ones, Lost/Rikti being a prime example.

The main problem with villains being forced to use Flashback to experience the new stuff is that heroes don't have to.

    Alright, here's my feedback.

The content balance for this issue sucks.

Villains get less than half the number of Midnighter missions that heroes get, and the Origin of Power story arc is completely absent. Villains can only get the Midnighters missions at 30 while the heroes get them at 10.

The content imbalance was already marked before this, what genius decided to make things this way? Those of us who play villains exclusively are totally screwed over. Thanks tons.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Villans do have the Origin of power arc available. I ran it on a couple of people on test.
Ashley McKnight offers it as well as the intro arc. On test I ran it at level 10-20. Not sure if that was changed later.

Darrin Wade (20-30) has a new and very villanous feeling arc tied to the midnighter club content.

So redside gets two shorter arcs over the longer heroside one, plus the mini-arc for the origin.

Please get you facts right before ranting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then Darrin Wade's arc ought to be available from 20-50. My characters past 30 are still screwed out of his arc.

That means it's still a content imbalance.

And if Ashley McKnight is supposed to give out a second arc, why isn't she? Is that another one that screws level 50s over? If you're going to have arcs that go from 10 to 50 blueside, why are they not 10 to 50 redside as well, or at the very least available from their starting level all the way until 50? It's ridiculous.

Make the redside Midnighter stuff open all the way to 50, dammit. It's not like there's an overabundance of post-50 content in the game anyway, especially redside, and we already have more than enough content for the low level brackets in the Isles. And most of the high level brackets, too, except for about 40-45. The Ouroboros portal is not an acceptable alternative.
  14. I'm really surprised that all the effort was spent on making an entirely new zone, and then putting almost no content into it. One series of "talk to these people" so-called missions, one contact spitting out repeatables, and one TF.

I was disappointed that I exhausted everything outside of the TF in less than an hour. You'd think with how much it was hyped this was the reconstruction of the Parthenon or something, but it turns out to be seriously underwhelming.

  16. That was really good. It was a bit disjointed in a few parts, mostly because of some panel formats and because we didn't have too much background to relate to on most of the characters, but otherwise it worked really well.

Especially the last two panels and the way they played off of what everyone knows about villains. A silent tableau, and then... "They didn't find a body."

    Very nice.

This is the only one I've seen so far, if SJ actually made this or not, I'm not sure.

That's it! Thank you thank you thank you. There are some totally awesome ideas in there that I want to use as jumping-off points for some of my own pencil-and-paper artwork.
  18. The site I saw linked to mentioned that the artwork had originally been on a site that had trojans or something, so the artwork was relocated by whoever set up the site I saw. It had sets of characters like "Wielders" and things like that. Don't know if that helps or not.
  19. I stumbled across a link in a post somewhere on this board that went to a page displaying a bunch of fan-made costume options that were really cool... the best I can describe them were the New Gods meets Marvel's Ultimate line. I think that Sexy_Jay made them, at least I know his name was on the page somewhere. Sadly I can't find it again.

Anyone know what I"m talking about and have a link to this?
  20. www.kuler.com goes to a software development company.

    Thanks for clearing it up.
  21. Wow... I cannot get over how "not there" that sybil outfit is. The top isn't even attached to anything, it just drapes over the shoulders.

And the bikini bottom is a thong.

    O_O

Ghost Widow's suits are much better IMO.
  22. That's why I said "except for the bottom".

    Everything else is... yeah.

Where are you getting these palettes? I went to the URL that was posted and it was a... software development firm?

    I is confuzzled.
  24. Wait a second...

    Are those Sybil robes... see-through?

And other than the bottom, she's not wearing anything under them either.
