Calvinball!!
Wondering if Freaks and Tsoo chasing and kicking the big red ball takes away from the immersion of the game...
NAH!! Make all villains deplore the ball and aggro on the ball! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
No no no. It works like this.
a spawn of Freakshow are kicking around the ball.
Scrapper runs in and kicks the ball away from them, (with extra knockback).
(2 seconds aggro suppression) The Freaks all turn and watch the ball saaaaail away into the distance.
(Aggro transfers onto the kicker) all the Freaks turn around at the same time and glare angrily at the Scrapper.
/e point "HE STOLE THE BALL! GET HIM!"
All the Freaks pummel the Scrapper.
It'll be BRILLIANT. -
1 Big Red Ball
an infinite number of players
no rules, goals, rewards or special properties.
...Sounds like CALVINBALL!
color me /signed.
though it would also be teh awesome if mobs (Freak Tanks!) would occasionally stop what they were doing and kick the ball around, too. -
here is how it will play:
*Full team of 8 badgehunters camps the tram
*Lone villain snipes the spawn and leaps away giggling madly
*Full team of enraged badgehunters kick the villain up and down the zone, killing him as many times as possible
* Other heroes hear the Tale of Woe and join the hunt
*Other villains hear the Tale of Woe and quite sensibly attack the pillboxes while the heroes are distracted
*Villains take Recluses' Victory. Paragon City ceases to exist.
It's not griefing! It's a Masterful Plan For World Domination! -

besides, Villains have no gain from whacking this one rare spawn that Heroes need for a badge. I bet some Villains will kill Contaminated anyways just to grief Heroes.

Sometimes Villainy can be its own reward.
( I am reminded of the Joker's internal monologue in Dark Knight "I don't keep track... But you do. And I love you for it.")
/e muahahaha -
Holey Toledo... I thought this thread was wiped!
Kitty! You found my thread! ^_^
We should prolly STILL start a new one or summat, I suppose... -
...is this bug why I keep seeing pathetic piles of dead ninjas at the Ferry?
Just curious. -
Well worded. I'd like to hear more tips for KB control for us melee types, since I have a shiny new MA scrapper and (despite my best intentions) I am forever kicking mobs in the wrong direction.
Above tips are helpful (Taking the backboard advice to heart, don't think I'll be fitting Hover into my build, though - not in concept) but I wonder if anyone else has more close-range advice.
Does KB cook off every time? It seems like sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. -

New Issue 7 base features will allow you to spruce up, buff up, and share gear all in the comfort of your own base! Read more about these new features in our latest update.

To this new base storage i only hope that there will be a base permission to whom can take stuff out. Last thing we need is a newbie commin in and taking all in and selling it all. So please if not make a base permission for security
[/ QUOTE ]
Pos already said there would be settable permissions on the new Storage items. Fret Not. -
*insert usual IANAL disclaimer here - they did make me study this in Art school though*
TA, Poison, et al, you shouldn't NEED to worry.
Fine Art *generally* is okay - because each piece is individually created by the artist themselves, and in most cases, enough differences exist between the finished piece and the reference material that the Artwork itself is considered to be a separate item.
That is to say, an individual WORK of art can be copyrighted as itself, even if it depicts the same source material as a different work of art, as long as there are enough differences between the two. Two landscape artists can paint the same pier, on the same day, with the same type of paint, and the two works (while very similar) are considered two totally separate works of art.
In a similar vein, an artist at a comic convention can sell a "fan sketch" of, say, Superman, without getting into trouble - because it's their own interpretation of the source material, and different from every other Superman sketch ever done. That comic artist only gets into trouble if they a) plagiarize another artist's work, or b) DC decides they've infringed on the Superman (TM)trademark. But the sketch itself can't be siezed, because it's not DC's property.
That said, trademark infringement is tough, and some images ARE trademarked - the image of Godzilla, for instance, really really can't be used commercially without Toei's blessing, and they zealously enforce it - but unless you're tapping a trademarked character, you should be okay.
So Poison and GillBates and Darkjedi SHOULD be well within Cryptic's tolerance - they're not taking Cryptic's characters and mass-producing their likenesses for profit, they're creating individual works of art for their clients - who then turn right around and proudly display them to the community, fulfilling the "fan fiction" clause of the EULA.

*bump*
This guide is supremely awesome. Those of us who started with the release of CoV and are totally unfamiliar with the backstory of Paragon City sometimes have a hard time figuring everything out - things like this really help! Thank you! -
This is the awesomest guide ever.
The Egyptian Oil Company mentioned in the Port Oakes storyarc (Bocor's, I think) is named Gadzul Oil. Given the names' similarity to Bat'zul, the demon bound under Cap Au, seems likely that the company is either run or influenced by demonic beings. The Blood of the Black Stream is mentioned in the same sentence with Gadzul Oil, as part of Duke Mordragor's demented ravings.
Speculation: If, as suggested in the OP, Gadzul Oil is deliberately antagonizing the Coralax, then the Blood Of The Black Stream may be some sort of ancient arch-rival of theirs. However, the text on the "Driller" exploration badge suggests the sinking of the Cairo Queen was an accident during a superpowered battle. Where is it mentioned in-game that scuttling her was deliberate? I haven't come across that. -
You may have to wait on that GM. Apparently the mechanism for /petition went out sometime last night - Cuppa noted it in the announcements section. Hopefully they'll have it working again soon.
-
I think they expanded the "size boxes" on a number of items, like bridges and balconies. The "short" arcane bridge no longer fits on a one-square wall at all... Probably to address the "hiding your anchors at the ceiling with lamps and other crap" exploit.
;_;
Kinda sucks for us non-exploitative types, but there you have it. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS, PEOPLE! -
sounds like they shifted raid-blockable items around and possibly the code for pathing - that would explain why multiple errors are being triggered for doorways and raid items.
On a happy note, I'm glad GMs have the capacity to fix it. yay, GMs!
Anyone else who gets this bug: /petition is your friend. Remember that /bug WON'T summon a GM to assist you. Gotta use /petition to fish up a live GM. -
Hm... well the only thing I can think of (and it seems to make sense logically) is that there are no "raidable" items in my base, aside from my Telepad and beacons. Didn't they fuss with the code of raidable items so they'd be higher level?
That might be the source of the error. -
Negatory. I moved my (one lonely) Telepad around while fussing with floor levels in the Teleport room. No ill effects.
What map did you guys zone into your base from? I was in port oakes. -
Odd. I wonder why I was able to edit my base with no problems, then?
-
Hm, not good.
I d/led the patch and played with the base editor today, too. I did get kicked out of my base once during editing, but didn't see any of the things you describe. Tried verifying your files? -
[ QUOTE ]
Is there a specific trick to getting your floors set at different heights? I can never seem to do it.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's a specific interface for doing so - the box on the upper right side of your edit screen shows the height of the room divided into different levels. Selecting an (empty) area of the base and then clicking on the various levels will raise/lower your floors and ceilings, and even create solid blocks of walls.
As with all functions of the edit menu, these commands are reversible, so you may play around with it as much as you like. The only trick is that the space MUST be empty - furniture, lighting and wall items will interfere, so clear them away first. -

Heh, look, I see what you're saying, and can dig that if PPPs are the ONLY option. Characters that take those should (arguably) be held accountable for their decisions. I can understand the reasoning behind it, even if I'm not totally in agreement that it's the best way.
However, what I and others have also been clamoring for, is an alternative to PPPs. We want access to either a) a non-Arachnos Patron, or b) some At-specific Pools such as those for Heroes but aren't aligned with a Patron, or preferably c) both PLUS the PPPs. What we do NOT want, is to be railroaded into taking an Arachnos Patron, if we want to get any special powers AT ALL! Give us SOMETHING, anything! It's not so much to ask!
[/ QUOTE ]
Then you and I are in agreement. More options are always good, and a nonaligned patron (wouldn't Archmage Tarixus rock?) is an excellent idea.
I merely point out that i7 is, for all intents and purposes, done. They're already at the minor tweaking, code-polishing stage of things. If such an item isn't ALREADY in the build, screaming for it will not improve the situation. I'd MUCH rather have 5 perfectly-balanced, well-thunked PPPs, than six half-arsed ones because they crammed a nonaligned one in at the last minute to shut everyone up.
Capiche? -
[ QUOTE ]
Except, you won't be able to. Once you've chosen a patron, regardless of your conecpt or story, that's it. You're stuck. You have no other options. There are no 'other ways' except in your own mind where, presumably, you've already created your concept story. heh heh
I find it interesting to see that you believe this system would annoy the powergamers rather than the storygamers---a contradiction of my opinion above. Not being a powergamer, myself, I'm not quite sure I follow that. Unless, of course, you're saying the lack of respec is the choke point? If so, yeah, I can see that.

I'm saying that the sticking point with RP'ers appears to be that people want total control over their villain's story. That's not unreasonable. But in comics, as in real life, the choices a Villain makes have unintended consequences ALL THE TIME. That's what makes them interesting, sympathetic, and occasionally tragic, even while they're plotting the downfall of humanity. My villain may THINK he's infallible, he may THINK that choosing Ghost Widow as a patron is a great idea because she's weak, or that Mako can be doublecrossed, or that Black Scorpion can be duped, but those Archvillains didn't get to the top of Arachnos by accident. Wresting power from them won't be easy.
RP'ers want to be writers and characters at the same time, and that generally means they don't ever want their characters to EVER make a mistake. But that makes for a boring story! Star Wars (and I speak of the original set of movies, here) was interesting because the main characters made mistakes ALL THE TIME. The plot was dynamic. By contrast, Waterworld (in which the lead actor also directed and produced the film) was terrible, because the main character never made any mistakes, ever, and was thus incredibly boring to watch.
All I'm saying is, a good RP'er makes use of whatever the Devs throw at him to continue the character's story. They can adapt. A bad RP'er refuses to accept that other people can influence HIS designs, when in fact they are already surrounded by the interlocking stories of others. -
...Incidentally, I like your inkwork, too. Beats the hell out of mine.

Nice technique. Throw in a few shadows, though.
Right now all his skin's the same color - which is not bad, but it makes the detailing on his anatomy(which you obviously put a lot of love into, btw) a little hard to see. Needs chiaroscuro.
Good stuff! Can't wait to see more!
