Perhaps a "swarm" of Jade Spiders would give the illusion of giant menace. By swarm, I mean maybe three to five, nothing porting in at such quantities as to reduce all activity to a crawl.
As a counterpart in the Rogue Islands, maybe a squad/swarm of Malta Kronos units.
As to SuperFerret's idea of a GM mayhem mission, have the swarm target specifically a building or ship (if its a waterfront location) for destruction, much like the Hellions arson buildings. For redside, it would be Arachnos property (got to have at least a little reason to care) That gives a specific reason for attack and a limited time to stop them. -
I like MA so much I play it on two of my best.
Although I could wish the Eagle's claw was a bit faster, the animation is just too pretty to ignore, and it packs a whallop. The only power I chose to change to a punch version was the crippling axe kick, whose animation took far too long, I thought. The punch version appears swift and adds a nice balance to my characters attacks.
I'm not certain which powers you'd change to look nicer without adding time to the attack.
Have you tried ninja run with MA? I've found that I can increase the fluidity and beauty of my attacks using it. Slotting well for end reduction, and particularly if some kind soul gives me SB, I can move like water in my attacks and am often finishing off one opponent at one end of a group fight and flipping over everyone's head to storm kick some creep on the other end who has targeted a squishy. Its really quite beautiful and satisfying to watch. -
Only melee I can think of (barely functioning at this late hour) fitting the description is a scrapper Martial Arts/Shield.
MA has Dragon's Tail: PBAoE, Moderate DMG(Smash), Foe Knockdown. I tend to slot this for a rapid recharge.
MA also has a pair of strong, single-target kicks (which you wanted) in eagle's claw and crane kick.
Shield has the awesome Shield Charge: PBAoE, Superior DMG(Smash), Foe Knockdown, Self Teleport. I find teams use me to tank alot using an opening salvo of a strong shield charge, and repeating the strike with a fast recharge.
Shield's defense is great too.
On my MA/Sh, I took the Epic powers of Body Mastery, with Conserve Power, Focused Accuracy, and Physical Perfection all contributing to the powers I've previously listed. -
I notice one of the tracks is called "Ghost in the Machine". The other titles are pretty self-explanatory, given what we know so far about GR, but this one has me wondering what the title is implying . (I'm aware of the expression, just guess this means something more.)

These are all really great! I'm loving this!
Needs more ladies and villains, though.
He's already created, so I don't know that he counts as a challenge, but I'll show Ray Gunn's current three outfits. The third is modeled in part on elements from Flash Gordon costumes.

Quote:I'm not certain where "Jamaican" comes from. There is a speech balloon directly in front of the shop name on page 25. It would seem to me that its Troy's own "comMON GROUNDS" with the first three letters blocked by the speech balloon.According to the CoH comic, across the street from the statue of Cyrus Thompson in Kings Row there is a Jamaican coffee shop called "MON GROUNDS." Many folks have been agitating to see it there in-game.
Looking back at that comic page, Cyrus' statue in-game is not even in the right place. In the comic book, it was directly in front of the new social center. One of the panels shows Manticore standing on the front steps addressing the crowd which is between him and the back of the statue. In game, the back of the statue is directly in front of the train terminal. -
Nice mock-up and good location for a blue-side-only location. However, I'd find the way to face the windows to the park. More picturesque. And hey, look! Its practically next door to the Atlas Park bank. It could be another challenge for villains to attack the coffee shop in the mayhem mission, with the possibility of multiple heroes inside.
The pub picture made me think a pub set in the village at Croatoa would be nice.
I would like to add to this by suggesting one or more locations be placed in some of the lesser populated zones. Breath a little life back into them. -
Quote:I may well end up resubbing to WoW, depending on how the rest of this plays out, but I am thus far finding CoH an interesting change. It's a hard sell for me, though, because fundamentally I want to kill internet dragons.
Still, CoH seems pretty friendly. Also, Levelling Pact, best idea ever. Awesome.Quote:I have a dedicated source of a very small team, because I'm playing with my spouse. We've been facerolling through newbie content despite not knowing how to play, but we're getting better.
I may be forced to tone down my roleplaying instincts, though. Normally, if I'm playing "a hero", I can't just ignore someone being mugged, but I seem to get slowed down a lot by this attitude...
CoH IS pretty friendly.I've played a handful of MMOs including a couple of years in WOW. I keep coming back here.
If you are faceplanting a lot, please send a cry for help out on the broadcast or global channels. There are heroes in this game, after all, and several veterans love to assist and train new players (the villains tolerate and help you, too.)
As to dragons, yeah, we killed them all. lol. (Well, we did leave the Archvillain Dra'Gon for you.) But when you're strong enough, do go take 16 or more of your friends and tackle Lusca, the giant octopus invading Independence Port. It will require a bit of coordination and strategy. We've got several Giant Monsters class beasties, actually, on both hero and villain sides.
As to the heroic rp, I tend to see anything grey as not there, and anything not tied to my missions as not there. Otherwise, it would be like trying to clean out the cemeteries of Duskwood. A noble cause, but the game mechanics keep resetting them behind you. -
I see. I've got one to kick this off:
Sci-Fi from the 1930s to the 1950s had a very distinctive look. Bullet-shaped space ships, lightning ray guns with barrel rings, and costumes that seemed to indicate the future would mix bits of historical military outfits with leotards and antique helmets.
I get complimented often for my Ray Gunn, an homage to 30's movie serial sci-fi. I betcha though, there's someone out there who can design better. I'd love to see it.
Let's see a costume that looks like classic retro-future sci-fi, like the Flash Gordon / Buck Rogers style. Hero or villain, male or female, human, robot, hawkman, lizardman, rocketman: you name it.
Here's a weblink and some images to help get the look and feel.

Quote:Wow. I don't know that I've ever seen a character's Myers-Briggs Personality Type defined before. This is my character Enduring, the (now level 41) Empathy/Rad Defender.
If interested, there's more info about him on VirtueVerse: http://www.virtueverse.com/index.php/Enduring -
That's when I first came to the game. I was thinking far too 2-D at the time and didn't understand where the killer fire was coming from until I looked up and saw 3 Eochai clustered 3 stories up on the fire escape. Silly, silly visual seeing them all huddled in that tight space, but such fun!

For me, its probably the golden age party that the Golden Age Heroes threw earlier this year. I'd been running late getting home and arrived, I thought, too late to get into their contests. I was watching the first costume contest unaware I was standing next to one of their members. He looked Ray Gunn over and suggested I participate, and was kind enough to say my late arrival did not matter. (I believe it was Commander Crimson. Thank you, sir, you made my night!
)
The Cape was playing WWII music, which I'm eccentrically passionate about, and it put me in great spirits having a ball looking at all the fantastic outfits and stories. Had that been all, I would have left happy. Being told, to my shock, I won the biography contest and best in show, and being awarded artwork of Ray Gunn: priceless. -
Quote:I was skimming too fast and for just a brief moment, I thought I saw "The Doce" as "Il Duce". Just about snapped my neck on the shocked doubletake. And here I thought I was one of the good guys.
Will Mod12 be renamed to The Doce?
Welcome to the forums, um, Moderator12. I promise I'll stay within the speed read limit. (at least the rest of the night) -
Quote:The fact that many people have "common" names might hide them, to some degree, but folks like me that have very unusual real names will stand out, and be easily traceable. Even if we are the minority, when considering the WoW population is, what, 11-12 million, that's still a lot of targets.I don't get it. A first and last name isn't really all that identifying. Heck, I google my name and I get a dozen different people, none of which are me. Names aren't all that unique.
Now, if you get a hold of name + city, that narrows it down a lot. Of course, you can always lie about your city.
Edit: Okay, the fact that you are connected to the real names of all your friends is all kinds of wrong. Blizzard is turning into Facebook. There is a reason I'm not on Facebook.
I'm just a lowly hardware technician, I have no real marketable programming skills, but I bet there are plenty playing at WoW that do, and can use those to further trace someone who has offended them, using the name as a starting point, even if its a common name.
As to the real names connection with friends, I'm hesitant, because the first thing I'd want to know is: can I hide on occasion from all my friends? I didn't have that when I played WoW, and being something of a "lone wolf" by nature, although I enjoyed working with friends and guild, I needed some personal space. So I roled a character on the server without revealing him to my friends and did the same on another server. It sounds like this new friends thing would keep me revealed (regardless of server?) and destroy that chance for a little quiet time or cause some friction with friends with whom I elected not to participate in the program. -
Your comment stirred the dusty cobwebs of my memories. I think I may have also had this problem once or twice when zoning on a team. I can't be sure, its happened so often this last year. I've learned to deal with it, though, after reading this thread, I took a can of compressed air to my keyboard. Didn't get much, but will watch it more closely.

No new pics since June 19th? Come on! This is Virtue! (no Sparta jokes please) There should be tons of new entries. Unless...there's really only 40 of us and the rest are all Alts.

have a 50 SR and a 41 Shield. Love 'em both equally. That said, I found shield a mite trickier the first several levels, but once I beefed up his endurance reduction and his defenses, and got shield charge, he's been substituting for the AFK tanks on PUGs.

this has become one of my favorite threads. For some reason, a guy in a snazzy business ensemble manages to get more interesting pictures than a lot of the supposedly more sensational-looking characters.

Quote:Ok, you got me thinking in a similar vein, and now I want to see the devs put a pair of old geezers in the game that have an homage resemblance to Statler and Waldorf, both in looks and constant humorous critiqueI want a REALLY old couple sitting on a park bench right where you arrive in Atlas and Galaxy after the tutorial..
Old Woman NPC: Oh look dear its another new Hero!
Old Man NPC: You call that a hero? When I was young we had REAL heroes. Look at (him/her) I bet if one of Nemesis' minons showed up and just looked at (him/her) funny a change of tights would be necessary.

Quote:Viewing this and other threads related to CoH advertising, it almost seems some sort of viral advertising, like that pushed by Mystery Science Theater 3000, is a possible way to go.okay. how do we get that exposure?
Again: CoH can't leverage advertising space or methods that WoW can due to the dominance of Marvel and DC Comics in those advertising spaces.
from Wikipedia article on viral marketing:
Quote:Early in its existence (perhaps between 1988 and 1992), the television show Mystery Science Theater 3000 had limited distribution. The producers encouraged viewers to makes copies of the show on video tapes and give them to friends in order to expand viewership and increase demand for the fledgling Comedy Central network. During this period the closing credits included the words "Keep circulating the tapes!" -

I have had this problem several times, in fact, had it this week. I think I've arrived at the work around, at least for my computer. No idea as to cure though.
In my case, it appears to be triggered when I minimize my active game window to work on something on the WinXP toolbar, such as changing the settings on my antivirus due to interference with the game, or opening an additional window to look up something on paragonwiki. When I return to the game, I'll have one or both of two problems. Either:
1. the "a" button erases all text typed previously on the line.
and/or
2. the UI power buttons stop working, meaning I can't attack or defend.
EDIT: correction, just remembered there is a 3rd problem that also might occur. If the UI power buttons stop working, I have on occasion found that I cannot type anything in the text line, making it very frustating to communicate to my team that my controls are not working properly.
I found that minimizing the game window again, and then re-maximizing it without working on anything else, seems to clear up the problem. I do recall one time where I had to do this twice before it took effect, so it may require patience and multiple tries.
