Martial Arts needs cosmetic surgery
MA used to be very 'cinematic', and it was rather despised. It was slow as heck; every move was a pose, then the attack. It's since been revisited many times.
Once to completely remove it's 'fancy' moves.
Once to put back some of the flash(which are the effects we can now tint),
Then once more for the alternate animations.
It's a pretty nice looking set now. Any more 'surgery' and it's nose will fall off.
The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

I disagree. Martial Arts is one of the best powersets to watch in my opinion.
I find Dual Blades (and Dual Pistols) a little bit too flashy animation wise, whereas Martial Arts has just the right combination of speed, practicality and visual flair.
I like MA so much I play it on two of my best.
Although I could wish the Eagle's claw was a bit faster, the animation is just too pretty to ignore, and it packs a whallop. The only power I chose to change to a punch version was the crippling axe kick, whose animation took far too long, I thought. The punch version appears swift and adds a nice balance to my characters attacks.
I'm not certain which powers you'd change to look nicer without adding time to the attack.
Have you tried ninja run with MA? I've found that I can increase the fluidity and beauty of my attacks using it. Slotting well for end reduction, and particularly if some kind soul gives me SB, I can move like water in my attacks and am often finishing off one opponent at one end of a group fight and flipping over everyone's head to storm kick some creep on the other end who has targeted a squishy. Its really quite beautiful and satisfying to watch.
The Dual Pistols set does a lot with different moves, the designer of the set referring to it as "gun fu," so it seems like the MA set should be brought up to par with it and also given complex animations.

It seems like you have the problem backwards, IMO. Dual Pistols should be brought DOWN in terms of flash and flair to better match the perfect balance that exists in MA at the moment.
(Emphasis mine)

Dual Pistols is just painfully slow, especially in the AoE attacks. And there's the little fact that I didn't WANT Gun-Fu... small wonder I just can't get into the set...

I really miss the old flurry-kick animation of Storm Kick. Sure the long, rooting animation wasn't as efficient (completely impractical for a stalker) as the current spinning roundhouse but it was so much fun to watch. I wish they would bring back the old Storm Kick to be an optional power animation.
And clown cars, we need clown cars.
Maybe in the future we'll have more alternate animations. I was a bit disappointed by the ones they added with i16, they did not seem 'martial' at all to me. At least now they have the option to add more
While we obviously have different ideas about "Perfect Balance," I agree with this sentiment.

And out of the two options...the standing there and shooting in place, feels less superhero/comicbooky and more western shootout.

And others of us, didn't want a boring stand in place and shoot set.

Frankly, the Gun-fu action play only works when used in conjunction with choreographed enemies. Without seeing the opponents do the same, this kind of thing doesn't look Heroic (or Villainous)... it just looks SILLY.
Still, I could overlook the nonsense animations (I already do it in other sets, though this is the only one with so many powers like that...) but I can't work with the excessive activation times - not as prevalent as it is in the set. Looking 'Kewl' is good and all, but get this functional first!

The alternate animations are more for characters who learned how to fight by actually fighting, rather than in a monastary in Tibet or a dojo in Southern California. And since a Street Fighting set would be as similar to Martial Arts as Broadsword is to Katana, it made more sense to just give the existing set some dfferent animations rather than code an entirely new set from scratch.

I have recently begun an MA/DA scrapper and I love it, but with the newer powersets like Dual Blades and Dual Pistols, isn't the Martial Arts powerset in need of being brought up to their level aesthetically? I do like that the recently added ability to change certain powers to be punches instead of kicks and being able to change the colors as well, but it seems to me that when compared to the aforementioned powersets, Martial Arts is severely lacking. The Dual Pistols set does a lot with different moves, the designer of the set referring to it as "gun fu," so it seems like the MA set should be brought up to par with it and also given complex animations. Of course, that might affect cast time which could be a problem for the AT. I don't know. Thoughts?
