Quote:You are not. And if true, Earth Prime just scored a huge ace in the hole by befriending the Ritki Traditionalists. They've fought them before, they'll know what to teach us to survive.Am I the only one who thinks the Coming Storm might still be the Battalion?
the odd thing is the time difference. The Ritki battled their Battalion 100 years back. Why the delay here? One view, I suppose, is that the Oroboros folks managed to manipulate time enough to push back the kickoff by 100 years so far. -
"minus the others" as in top billing, yes. I liked a lot of the pirate crewmembers and would like to see them back. Cotton and his parrot were always good for a laugh.

OminousVoice's Gotham Symphony and Transformers Classic Theme Orchestral are both really good, too.

Quote:It has. (though you've got a different article covering the same case.)

Yogi's okay, but for animated bears and rangers, I think I'd rather see a film with Humphrey and the gang
-
Agreed. A successful, manly film filled with stars? Its been done before.
The Magnificent Seven
The Dirty Dozen -
I never would have thought Justin Timberlake could voice Boo Boo.

Not in Rhode Island, just supported by it. Its a New England team, and state borders are irrelevant in such. Boston is only 50 miles from Providence, RI. Even if Paragon City was at the opposite end of RI, you are looking at 100 miles total. Here in the Carolinas, we tend to support the Charlotte sports teams, even if they are in the other Carolina. Its only 100 miles from my home. In major league baseball we follow the Atlanta Braves, but again, its only 150 miles (Well...there is one notable exception: my hometown has one of the Boston Red Sox's 1A division teams, so some follow Boston. Six Degrees of...and all that jazz)

I've not followed Cap closely over the years, but just googling his image shows that he's probably ambidextrous. There's many shots shifting the shield back and forth. The movie poster in this thread also shows him holding a pistol in his left hand. Possibly the super soldier serum grants this ambidextrous nature. It would certainly make him a more rounded fighter.

He's a shy Jewish dwarf from the Mississippi delta. She's a cynical winged bounty hunter who believes she is the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian queen. They fight crime!
I don't know about the first guy, but the second description almost sounds like Hawkgirl, at least from the JLU series. -
Thank you for the clarifications, Ghost Falcon. If I may ask for one more, regarding the point above: if a character moves through the GR Alignment System and "returns to the fold" as it were, will they ever be allowed access to those lounges and content? Or will the swap permanently condemn them to wander outside? I'm hoping, even if there is a time limit involved, that one returning to pure hero or villain status will gain access, otherwise, it seems they'd want to remain "pure" gain all the benefits desired (which could be a significant amount of time), then run the GR Alignment System for content, badges, etc.

Quote:Trying to figure it out myself. Seems like Alice in Wonderland meets Arkham Asylum meets the Matrix. The thing I can't figure out is if she's interacting with other intelligences or just her own thoughts.Woooooooooooooow.
I remember the Attack of the Show people saying they watched it and were shocked at how out of left field the trailer was, but wouldn't go into any details about it.
They were right, cause I dunno what I just watched, but I really liked the concept behind it!
*Takes a vacation to a remote mountain to meditate upon it for a while* -
this reminded me of a team discussion the other day.
A pair of team members were playing very well, but had begun a long discussion on a topic uncomfortable to most of the team. Realizing this, after a long pause, I typed "Sooo...how about those Paragon Sidekicks? Think they'll make it to the World Series this year?" I got a lot of laughter and private tells thanking me for breaking the tension. It did get me thinking I'd like to see that sports name though. One can dream. -
welcome back!
If you're watching vids, you might also want to go see Dark_Respite/Samuraiko's videos. I think she made a video for each issue : link
One big difference you'll find is the mailing system. You'll now be able to mail influence and a limited number of items, even to your global address. So use your top dog to finance your new toons. Currently its still separated blue side / red side, but I think that's changing next issue with the market mergers. Some are also using the mailing system for creative solutions, like storing inspirations until needed in a mission. Since we don't have a specific mailbox to attend, you can grab what you need whenever. -

Thank you for the responses so far! It sounds like Lenovo and Asus are shaping up to be the leaders for recommended purchases. I've used Asus for years in my home builds. I'd forgotten their complete models.
Quote:because of that whole flawed capacitor fiasco Quote:Man, it never ends. I had a Quantex system with popped capacitors on the motherboard. This was in 2002.
Quote:Have had decent luck with the eMachines part of Gateway; they weren't high-end machines, but they were okay.
I am actually thinking about getting a desktop PC with specific intent to run CoH on it, but I am terrified of having to deal with Windows again. (I'm not a Windows guy, and the marginal cost of learning to maintain another operating system for a single application is pretty high.)
Thanks for the eMachines comment. I admit to having snobbishly thumbed my nose at them. Perhaps that was hasty. I'll do further checking in a reconsideration.
Quote:Sony makes good hardware. However, being Sony, half of just about everything is proprietary. Custom sized power supplies, cases designed to fit the hardware for that model and very little else, etc. Acceptable in a laptop, not acceptable in a desktop.
In addition, driver updates are spotty at best. Sony apparently believes a> you don't need to upgrade your computer ever and b> when Sony's support runs out, it must be time for you to trade in or throw away your old computer.
Quote:Toshiba - Dont get me started. It was really bad for us as we had 2-3 month wait for repair parts when the units were failing in just year 2. Lots more problems with our repair company but that is a different story.
HP/Compaq - No true PC experence here. We use their servers for our infrastucture and have not had any problems.
HP/Compaq: I'll flesh out my experiences a bit. I had a project the last 2 years supporting a bank using HP/Compaq exclusively. Server-wise, I cannot really comment. Most servers had been kept in duty too long and were frail. The new servers were too new to show problem patterns. My big issues were with desktops and laptops. New desktop models dc7600 to dc7900 had just under a 20% hard drive failure rate in the first 4 months of service. Mid-aged laptop model nc8430 (about 4 years old) was my bane, with significant patterned failure rates in the vid screen, hard drive, and motherboards, especially at the point of power connections. They also had pattern problems with thermal issues. The new nc8510 and nc8530 models had patterned problems of sluggish behavior.
Quote:Generally? If I have people ask now, I tell them "All I see are the problems" - which really skews things. Much like a mfgr's forum - nobody posts to say "Hey, everyone, everything's working great, no problems here!"
I'll tend to point people toward consumer reports, PC magazines, etc. for reliability and (stressing) satisfaction with support, with a mention not to buy the cheapest models from anyone.
Then I'll go build my own system. FPRIVATE "TYPE=PICT;ALT="
I build my own systems, too. Its fun! But mostly I'm asking so as to assist the Average Joe who doesn't know video card from sound card. -

Quote:First, isn't the upcoming Cathedral of Pain a 24-player raid of sorts?I, for one, don't relish the idea of WoW-style mega-raids, since I don't think the smaller servers will be able to muster the numbers for them consistently (leading to more bleed to the big ones, more people quitting in frustration, and more merge/don't merge/shutdown/don't shut down brouhaha). Additionally, I just don't like that kind of thing. That said, I believe a significant number of people do want this kind of thing and have for a while, so I suppose it's good they're (probably) working on it.
Second, wasn't there a rumored test, a while back, of trying to allow players to team across shards, like the WoW dungeons and pvp battlegrounds now do? Seems that would solve the small server population problem. -
This is a good suggestion, Roberto.
I've been white flagged consistently. However, I'd like to point out that its a two-way street. The leaders need to run a search. I find its usually a 1/2 hour on Virtue before my toons get teamed, which is okay since I'm constantly crafting. Nevertheless, I find that fastest responses from team leads come not by the global channels, which I use as well, but by actually being in a zone they are in and using broadcast. It gets kinda maddening when in the late 30s to early 40s when I find myself hopping from Brix to FF to RWZ to PI using broadcast at each stop to get anyone to respond. All the while, I'm flagged, and have been using global channels. The broadcast still gets the response, eventually. Even those that do search tend to only search on the white. Most of the time, if I flag green for door missions, for example, I can expect even longer waits or no response.
On the flip side, I do lead occasionally, and being old school and proud of it, I first turn to the /search for filling a team, but often have even those flagged ignore my requests. -
That...is really cool, Nos482!
I may just have to steal a few ideas from that. I wonder what it would look like with the earned epaulets?
>>>I'm guessing we've run the course for serial space hero types. Though I'll be delighted to see late submissions.
But lets not monopolize, and keep the thread moving according to Shadowclone's OP. Someone else pick a good topic to design! -
Thanks, Gecko. Would you happen to have any of those "positive comments from beta"?

Quote:Looks like its paid off well! Love the new troll cover and the brown light saber is just about as funny as the bomb-defusing one several posts back! Thanks Rodoan, your comment has been an inspiration to a new wave of Airhead commissions.
Now if we can only keep the trolls airheaded long enough to detox... -
Skippy, because The Peanut Butter Kid was just too long to type out each time.

Wasn't certain this fit any other forum.
I repair business computers for a living. I'm kind of the low end of the IT business. That's fine. The problem is, most of my contracts and assignments are working with companies utilizing legacy hardware, and usually from one brand. So when coworkers approach me, and ask for computer brands to buy or stay clear of, I have to rely on reading, which is not always current. I know several of you are more tuned in than I so I ask: which brands currently would you recommend to another for home useage? Or recommend staying clear, and why?
Dell - I'm a bit distrustful of them for now, because of that whole flawed capacitor fiasco. I've actually encountered the problem repeatedly at a school district I serviced.
Dell's Alienware
Gateway
Lenovo - I tend to be wary of things coming from China, but then so many items from the pc front do come from China nowadays. The business Lenovo's I've encountered from about 2005-2006 issue seemed fairly solid.
HP/Compaq - I'm not overly thrilled with these. Last 2 years I've worked on hundreds of these, and there was, IMO, an unusually high failure rate on major parts. What's your view?
Sony
Toshiba
Other?
EDIT: corrected some unclear wording in the Lenovo description -
I would've liked a sketch of Ace Barnstormer. Sadly my travel powers are not currently available.
Wish y'all loads of fun, and remember, Pics Or It Didn't Happen!
