  1. one trick i do to "force" my evil toons to interact is to make them weak, so they are needy, for exapmle

my MM necro/FF is a normal human medical doctor , on the run from the law for unnessasary surgery, lacks funds, needs a safeplace to stay , needs to earn cash by providing medical services.. while at the same time she is a body snatching, mad doctor necromancer..

evil toons that are to powerful have no need to be social, so are not.
  2. Yep ...until there is some in-game event like Rikti raids, or a new/revamped zome like the RWZ, the Cole invasion is something lurking in the background, optional to reference or just ignore as most treat any otherfaction.

i do feel the Devs missed the chance of recycling a zone such as Boomtown, which apart for a tiny number of arc missions no ever really visits..heck they could have kept the same map and just added some "invader" mobs for flavour...
  3. It really depends on two factors about the axe ..size of axe head , and lenght of the handle, if either is large you cant hang it from a belt with out tripping over it, having seen re-enactors with sizable war axes they tend to carry in in their hand, or resting over the shoulder much like a rifle is carried. One other option i have seen is hung from a loop over the shoulder so the axe hangs inside of the arm, the handle along the chest and the head around waist height. Last version, axe over the back, shield hung over the arm, but loose.

Best option ..get a Squire ..)

Very much so, in fact i have three that were planned with starting limitations that are designed to be over come as they level, with each cossie slot level marking a progression point, and the new cossie acting as a indication of that limitation being overcome.

i find it a good way to shape the toon's evolution, and allows me to IC reference events they have gone through.

yes, but with a but, Pok D is much less restrictive, and there is more than one style of RP on offer, currently there is at least four quiet different groupings in the Blue bar, all doing their thing, with varible degrees of cross over chat and comment.

Jerks and Tools aside, and even GG suffers them from time to time, i have to say your WTF comment does sort of make my point of GGers being a bit closed off, you like what you like, which is fine and dandy, but it does exculde a lot of what other people want to do.

Now back to the OP .. i dont think any of my toons will be doing the Inny arcs IC, and as for IC comments about the Well, well ((pun)) firstly i want to see how anyone gains much infomation about it and what it is doing..will the Well do a webcaste ? or will Fey Sprites whisper in our ears ? Personally i can not recall the last time anyone IC mentioned the States ans Recluse and Pannies Box as an important or affecting event in their characters back story...

from much personal time devoted, IMHO, GG RP is a perfect example of clique, and yes i fully admit that the word has negative connotations, but sorry GG is extremely cliquey.

I will agree with FFM about how to approuch geting started at GG, but unless you have built your characterto fit the GG mould you will not get very far, if your not part of the GG social scene you will not get any interation beyond a hello. i have seen a number of excellent RPers try out a new Alt a GG, and get nowhere with it, while there normal GG toon works fine.

Does this make GG "bad" , no it is still good RP, very good at times, if you can get in and wish to RP a Toon of that sort, and to be fair to all GGers, it is no more of a clique than some SG and other themed RP groups. Does it make them always right, no.

The problem, again IMHO, is that many GGer do not stray outside their "safe zone", the un writen rules of GG RP become their creed and they forget other people do things other ways, and as a result the suffer a form of "culture shock". Which leads to misunderstanding and erm..strongly worded debate. GG RP is as old as the hills and we all know how hard we all resist change (( full set of IO and lots of set bonuses ))

This thread started with a good question and the debate got off to a interesting start, but, sadly , like a number of others devolved into a war of words over ..well almost ideology.

The issue is neither sides are right and neither sides are wrong, because they are not talking about the same thing. GG has its own set of house rules, GG is not the Unionverse, just a part of it, however it does contain some of the most active posters here, and ones willing to defend their point of veiw.

As the GGers are going to stay at GG and RP their way, and the rest of the Unionverse are going to do the same in their groupages, can we not agree that we all work in our own little cliques ?

The "global" plots of recent times do not seemed to have effected GG much, so can not the same be true for the future ?
  7. hang on a mo ..isnt Bubble Awesome Incarnate already ?

mind you an slotted AoE cookie debuff would be more awesomer

And I just realised on reading one of the posts here that everyone is actually arguing the same thing, and it's hilarious.

Allow me to explain: Incarnate, even in the context of canon material, is not a noun. It is an adjective.

    Here's the thing:

Opening Pandora's Box is what allowed superpowers to become prevalent. If it had remained closed, you'd pretty much have our world. The few super-powered individuals would keep quiet and not get up to much and that would be that.

The five so-called Origins are labels. They are a part of humanity's attempts to codify and classify the source of powers. They're pretty broad, so we, as RPers, find it relatively easy to squeeze our homebrewed character concepts into one or another of them.

Now comes the hilarious part. There is actually no such thing as "An Incarnate". Anywhere. Not in canon, not in Mender Ramiel's arc, nowhere.

Statesman is not described as "An Incarnate". Sorry, folks, but he's not.

Recluse is not described as "An Incarnate", either.

Statesman is "Zeus Incarnate" (usually written as "Incarnate of Zeus" in a demonstration of truly abominable English - it should be "Incarnation of Zeus"), and it really does mean what it says on the tin. He is a real-world embodiment of the power of Zeus.

On its own "An Incarnate" is completely meaningless. It is impossible to create a character in CoH that is just "An Incarnate". They will always have an origin, too.
The effect is "unlocked Alpha (or whatever) slot and slotted a boost (or whatever) into it". The cause for that, in the context of the CoH universe, is that the character is an Incarnate of their origin - a hyper-powered example of that origin, if you will.

This does not have to have anything at all to do with The Well of The Furies.

Prior to issue 19, the Well was assumed to just be the "energy field" that allows super-empowerment to exist, and that opening Pandora's box allowed that "energy field" to encompass the world. With Issue 19 we have instead learned that The Well is some sort of semi-intelligent entity that is able to empower characters to levels that are currently only seen in the likes of Statesman and Lord Recluse.

I could be wrong, but I don't strictly recall if canon says that The Well is the only way to become an Incarnate of your origin, but for the purposes of this discussion, EVERYONE is saying that it shouldn't be.

If "Incarnatedom" is divorced from The Well, then it doesn't matter. Unlocking the Incarnate Slot theoretically means that your character is an "Incarnate of their Origin", even if they never use that label for themselves. Even if the player behind it says "Nope, she does not exemplify the levels of power that her Origin can achieve"... yes, they do. There's nothing mystical about it. Techbot Alpha can have those levels of power because he's just an awesome robot (he's Technology Incarnate). Shadowe can have those powers because he works out how to access more of the energy that surrounds the black hole in his head (he's Science Incarnate).

Saying, IC, that your character is or is not an Incarnate is ultimately meaningless, because at the end of the day simple access to the levels of power that the Incarnate slots have actually defines if the character is an incarnate. But it's a purely OOC label, in this context. IC, I expect most people to only say that they are "An Incarnate" if they have treated Ramiel's arc as an IC event.

I am not forcing anyone to accept my viewpoint. In fact, I couldn't care less if anyone thinks what I've written is a load of tosh. The only thing that actually "matters" is what the characters believe.

And if anyone says that they think I'm somehow trying to "force" their character into being an Incarnate powered by some weird mystical being, then you really didn't read what I wrote.

tl;dr: Incarnate is a label to describe extreme cases of a particular Origin. Nothing more.
to misquote ..when i grow up i want to be Shadowe..

in this case Shadowe is wisdom incarnate ...nuff said

(( and yes i did mean to quote all of Shad's post , its worth reading at least twice ..))

  10. ok for those that want to insist incarnate powers have to, in some form, come from the Well of Furies......

That about all those player toons and NPCs that have a backstory pre dating States and Recluses and the Well event? does this mean none of these, can use the incarnate sytem ?? i mean Nemesis is going to be so pee'd off if he has no access to these new options.. hmm or is it this thread is a Nemeis plot to try to limit who picks up incsarnate powers .....

(( ducks for cover with a manic grin))

Firstly i dont think any toon should be more powerful than the most powerful game content, when you play LotRO you dont make a "more powerful than the Dark Lord" character.

the game does create a problem for most AT/ power set pairings as they cannot be built to kill AV's ..which means all uberpowered heroes have to be a small range of builds, thius it becomes a pure game mechanic.

Or, are we going to establish that the much-vaunted power of the Incarnates is nothing more than can be achieved through extra training or a technology upgrade?

no i would not require Billy's player to do anything, i simple RP my street level hero as weaker, i.e. while his fist punches through a impervium wall, my fist is only powerful enoygh to KO a Skull minion with one blow.

Any Rped fight between the two would be an auto win for Billy, as Billy is BaB and Jimmy is a Longbow Lt.
  13. I think, after ponderous reflextion that for all my toons i will be treating Incarnate progression as i would a raising of the level cap, in other words just carrying on with the toons story in the same way as i have for normal leveling.

A number of my alts are played as street level heroes rather than the world saving sort, so there is no place for an IC incarnate event with out totally changing the characters nature.

I do find that apart from AE stuff very few of the end game arcs work as IC missions for my toons.
  14. ..well if the Foundry cocktail party was the social event of the year, the Merc's ball was clearly the Business event of the season, i have never seem so many seedy, untrustwothry, criminal elements in one place!

A most excellent base setup, a very efficent system of providing temp SG membership, and friendly locals made for a fun time.

A lot of hard work went into the event and i would like to propose a huge thank you to all concerned.

I am not sure how mant dirty deed where planed , but the evil-o-meter seems to have made a major swing to the darkside. . . .

    Great fun.

  16. i was more thinking of attacks on undead heroes and villain , not previously under threat.

As these new bounty hunters are yours, well Tombs, how do you want to handle attacks on the "new" targets ?
  17. CB do you really mean what Tomb said

"Buy yes, where was I. I’ve put out a bounty on the undead, all of the undead, I don’t care if they are heroes, villains or just working saps, they belong dead!” she announced fiercely."

and if so on what scale will the attacks be ?
  18. quite the event of the social season ...

a good fun time, and very open, everyone seemed chatty, and, for Pok D, totally tool free

IC it was nice to put some faces to names of some toons that one doesnt get to see to often.

the star turns ..Molly for ultra Pinkness, Vincent for well being Vincent, and Rev Pious for being the most noteable guest.

Well done The Foundry and thank you

hmm thought, given the numbers of people after Tomb would not a PvP zone work better , if its a "run her down to her hide out " type event ..

Macabre discovery off Port Noble .

Coastguards patrolling the waters off Port Noble docks, Striga isle, made a grisly find late last night, when around fourteen bodies were found floating in the sea just off shore.

The bodies are described as both hideously malformed and mutilated, bearing a range of savage bite wounds, burns, and large slashes. The inhuman forms were brought ashore by the Coastguard cutter for forensic examination. Reports say the bodies were humanoid but clearly not human.

Commander Ruise of the Coastguard Cutter declined to comment on the question of any connection of these bodies to the recent sinking of the Kain Tzu and its missing crew.
  22. oooh bad luck..we have a number of people here at work suffering what appears to be a flu like bug and it seems quite nasty..get well soon

And give a shout when your ready.
  23. PLEASE READ THIS BIT FIRST

This is a RP thread for a minor bit of character plot-age, it will mainly be news reports and OOC follow ups to In-game RP. However anyone is welcome to post any IC action they feel are related, and/or PM for more info based on IC activity.

The word Doom used here has a specific IC meaning here and does NOT refer to a world ending/changing event. That is not to say bad things will not happen.

The first two sections are reprints from the “In the Newspapers!” Thread.

Our PPD sources confirm that recovery of at least five bodies, all bearing a range of savage bite wounds, burns, and large slashes.

The identities of the individuals are not known but at least two are said to have been wearing Council uniforms.

Chaos at Port Noble, Striga Isle ..

...the docks at Port Noble where plunged into chaos late last night when the bulk transporter vessel the Kian Tzu, inbound From Singapore, sunk in the main channel into the harbour.

First reports indicate that there was a series of explosions aboard the ship, resulting in it rapidly sinking. The Coastguard say no members of the crew have been found, and no distress message was received.

Chatter that may have been overheard in Pocket D over the last few nights.

“ oh yes a Doom , they can be pretty nasty ….”

“ no idea , but I believe it is to do with those Othersiders ..”

“Striga isle seems to be becoming the focus for the Doom, I would avoid it ..”

“..death, destruction , chaos , all those usual bad things tend to accompany a Doom.. “

Paragon City Business News Roundup Tuesday 28th Sept 2010

..following the sinking of the freighter Kain Tzu the docks at Port Noble are suffering large scale disruption, with only 40% of the normal number of ships being able to enter or leave the port. Business sources say this may have a knock on effect with the supply of Xmas goods reaching store late.

The sinking is already having a local effect with the Docks owners starting to lay off dockside workers, Toni Tantoleni, the dockworkers Union boss commented “ d’ boys iza nota gonna be ‘appy ab’ot this”.

The Coastguard say the Kain Tzu is lying in the shallow water of the southern approach to the docks and is currently a major hazard to shipping. At this time not a single member of the Kain Tzu’s crew has been found, and no bodies have been recovered. The Coastguard admitted the removal of the sunken vessel will be difficult, and that the FBSA had been contacted to see if any heroes with underwater capability are able to assist.
