Just wanted to say this is a really interesting thread and commend the OP for injecting a fresh line of thought/discussion here. -
Quote:First off I'd like to suggest weeding this out into two separate threads, one addressing the OP and another addressing gender issues.
Inform others of expectations. Keep the game moving. Tell others when their actions are to the detriment of the team as a whole. Do something about players who are a disruption to the well-being/fun of the team or who deliberately go against against the stated expectations.
Now me, I'm the non-confrontational type. I'd make a bad team leader, as I'd hesitate to speak up. I supposed that's why I solo (or duo) almost all of the time. When I do team, I shut up, do my best, and keep the fun of the other players in mind.
But on the OP, and the bolded section above - it's a fine line between not saying enough, and saying too much. I like to lead teams, rather than join them, and personally, unless someone's doing something that causing faceplants (other than their own), let 'em play the way they want to play!
As long as the Scrapper isn't dragging mobs back with him after going off on his own, let him!
If the Troller's locking them down before the Tank has full aggro and groupage, he'll learn!
If the Blaster's opening with Rain of Fire and faceplanting repeatedly, he'll learn too!
A mute leader is no fun, but a bossy one can be even LESS fun.
You seem to think it's a detriment, but as long as you really do "keep the fun of the other players in mind", I'd say you'd most likely make a great team leader. -
Quote:i went into windows and gave my mouse the display pointer trail and that gives me a much better veiw of my pointer. i am currently playing a PB and the powers in my tray were the same color as my pointer, but since i added the pointer trail i dont lose it anymore.and coh didnt over ride it either.
Ah HA! A genuine "fix" type suggestion.
Love it! I'll try turning on my trails when I get home from work.
Thanks Magnus! -
Quote:And I have an ACTUAL question - did the Suggestions section get deleted? Why are all these suggestions popping up here all of a sudden? This must be the 4th Suggestion-related thread started here this week.there a few things that seem to be left or missed in my opion that need some kind of addressing.
1, there seem to be a weird need for these special salvage with every other issue, but why are there nothing done to vanguard merits?
I got everything possible with the merit on most toon but i can't spend them fast enough to be worth to go out to get more. but with Merits i got tons of choices to choose from also the same with MA tickets.
2, base salvage, dr brainstorm token and base salvage tab, it been almost a year and these are well obsolete shouldn't these be heading for the bin by now?
3, Stores/shop with each new buy system there seems to better version to buy items finder. i think MA shop the best way to use to buy. couldn't these be put into place for all shop/stores and market as i think it the best to find thing for all
4, Search well i think this need a overhaul as trying to people for a team can be a pain when you reach 50 people in the search, even more so when you select a range of 5 level and you still maxed out.
maybe a increase in the how many can be searched or a lower level search
i do have more question but it got very late an im very tried so i leave my other question later
but i love to hear on what other got to say, on what they think on some point i pick up on
This is the Player Questions section - players asking players for help with specific game-related issues, like "Where is..." "How do I..." "What's the best..." etc.
I know that sounds snippy but this is simply the straw that broke my camel's back.
Suggestions section is >>>that way. -
Quote:This happens to me as well. Latest ATI drivers help a little, the hand is now closer to the cursor location, but still won't hover directly over any Enhances.I have that problem too, but my most irritating problem is that the blue hand is 3/4 inch to the upper left of the normal cursor.
In other words, when I'm managing enhancements, I have to put the blue hand above and to the left of the enh to be able to grab it. I have only once made a mistake, throwing an acc where I wanted a dam. No big deal, but I'm not capping the damage until I remove it. -
I Searched but didn't read every post in the thread so forgive me if this has already been mentioned.
I'm having trouble with map markers when selecting contacts.
The marker does not always appear on my Nav Bar and the yellow Waypoint marker does not always appear on my screen.
I have to open the Map and guide myself "manually" until I'm within visual range. -
Quote:Pics or it didn't happen."His"? "His"? "His"? "His"? "He's"? "His"? "His"? "His"? "He"?
Girls play too, you know
Preferably in lingerie?
And I think the path to being a good team player lies through the one-of-each-AT approach.
e.g. I'm a better Controller now that I've played a Tank and "get" how aggro and mob grouping work re: those two ATs.
I'm a better Tank now that I've played all the squishy ATs.
I'm a better Blaster because I've played a Troller and know how to let them help me mitigate incoming aggro/damage.
I'm a better Defender because I've played a Blaster and "get" how you can end up with more aggro than you intended, quite easily.
etc. etc.
When I look back at my first Blaster (Energy, of course, the worst possible starting power set) and all the stupid stuff I did back then, I cringe.
So when I see a 5-month Vet doing the same kinda stuff, I either let them make their mistakes and learn, without busting their chops, or politely give them guidance on how to avoid dying so much, and/or causing so many team wipes.
There may well be some truly bad players out there, but I think most of the ones you see making life difficult for a team, are simply new players, or primarily soloists. -
*Fights through urge to not Respond 'cause it's in the Player Questions section*
Wouldn't a non-super travel power be Swift & Sprint triple-slotted for Run Speed, or Combat Jumping & Hurdle fully slotted for Jump?
And are you suggesting major changes be made just because you can't RP your toons to your satisfaction?
Many of us (I hesitate to say The Vast Majority, 'cause it may or may not be true, but in my experience The Vast Majority...) play because we enjoy the game. RP-ing ain't in it.
Quote:^THIS^ on the other hand, I wholeheartedly endorse. If they added alternative animations for TP like they have for Fly, then you could appear in a flash of lightning, or an explosion, or a puff of smoke, or a cloud of darkness. -
A_C welcome back for the Freekend, glad you're enjoying college, hope you can tell us more about your experiences so far (when you're not in-game).
Can I just mention that I "retired" from my first profession and went back to school at 34-years-old, before embarking on an entirely different profession on graduation (at age 38).
As such, I was closer in age to most of my professors than I was to most of my classmates.
How this relates to you: Don't forget that professors are people too, and you can benefit at school and in real life by treating them as such. Consider inviting a favorite professor to an outside event you'll be attending with classmates - a football game, a night out drinking, a gallery opening, a reading, etc...
I made new friends, and useful networking sources with this approach. Granted you're no doubt younger than I, but do consider it, nonetheless.
Just one example: I invited an elderly Journalism prof out drinking with me and some friends from school one evening. We all had a great time, he had AMAZING stories to tell about working at the New York Times for 40 years. At the end of the evening, after he was squeezed into the back of the taxi between two young, very attractive co-eds, he took me aside as we made our farewells and said it was the best night he had had, in a very long time. He had tears in his eyes as he said it.
I got an A+ in that course, swear to God, and he wrote me a stellar recommendation for my first job out after graduating. -
Anyone have similar issues and can suggest a fix?
I recently (3 months ago) upgraded from a 15" monitor (square-ish) to a 19" Widescreen monitor.
I love the new monitor but after many, many years on a square monitor, I'm having a LOT of trouble adjusting, in terms of finding my mouse cursor while lots of powers are going off in mishes.
I have to push it all the way to one of the corners to find it, and even then it really takes some concentration to pinpoint its location and get it to the proper spot for clickage.
Never had this problem on the square-ish monitors, it was always right where I expected it to be when I needed it.
Can you change the cursor color in-game? If not, would a color change out-of-game persist in-game? If you can change color in-game, has anyone discovered thru trial-and-error the ideal color for standing out against a mess of powers going off?
I know this sounds trivial but it's really disrupting my play.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -
Quote:I have come to the sad realization that I will be working for 68 of the 88 hours of double xp time. So with the remaining 20 hours I need to squeez in 4 nights of sleep and some quality time with the family.
I hate it when they make the double xp announcements right after I volunteer to work extra shifts.
THIS!!!!!

Quote:These may all be quite true, but let's not discount those for whom the subject matter simply wasn't their cup of tea!I'll let you in on a little secret: there are a lot of people who don't like CoH/V. They tried it, they played it, they got sick of the lvl grind and / or constantly seeing the same maps in their instanced missions. Some players hate that CoH/V is so instance dependent; others hate the lack of visible loot, or the lack of an endgame they consider worthwhile. EQ / DAOC players of the time felt that CoH/V was too light and breezy, that it lacked substance.
I prefer CoX because swords, sorcery, dwarves, orcs, etc. simply do not appeal to me. I prefer a city-scape over fields & villages. I prefer a Train to a flying mount. I prefer "powers" over "spells", "endurance" over "mana", Drop-ships over sailing ships.
That doesn't mean that people who prefer the other stuff are "wrong" or dumb or undiscerning, or that there's anything wrong with CoX. They just like the other stuff more! -

Wow you fellas really outdid yourself - and Zombie I should apologize - I've seen that most awesome flow-chart style map before, just forgot about it.
I'm printing out both posts (well d/l-ing the map) and will keep them handy as I play.
Many thanks for your time and effort! -
Yeah it's odd - the majority of the players out there are looking for "teh max XPs" and I think a well-run Bank mish is one of the best opportunities for a nice long, uninterrupted stretch of straight-up XPs.
Yet people are sometimes reluctant to "use" the Bank mish as it was designed, going for the Temp power and nothing else.
Personally I've only REALLY enjoyed the Bank mish on maybe 2 or 3 PuGs I've ever been on...and again, it was when the team didn't get split up "out in the open" hunting Vandals, and proceeded directly to the doors once those showed up. -
I've just learned that the i15 VidiotMaps overlay release did update the in-game City Map to reflect Train station changes.
But again, new gamers most likely will NOT have VidiotMaps installed when they're starting out - which is precisely when they're gonna need an accurate map, the most.
I don't know crap about programming but I would imagine this is a relatively simple, and important update for the Art Dept.
I mean seriously, can you imagine anything WORSE for a newbie player than providing them with an inaccurate in-game map?
Seems like NCSoft is shooting themselves in the foot on this one. -
Hmm I have VidiotMaps overlay already - but maybe an older version? I don't think I've updated it in a year or so. Is this a new version with the updated map?
And again, this isn't an issue *for me* as much as I'm worried for newbs (who won't have Vidiotmaps installed), and for whom I can't edumacate them about its usefulness in getting from zone to zone. -
Quote:When doing a bank mission, after its over everyone always wants to do side missions. Im always voted out lol.
Am I the only one here who doesnt like doing them?
I dont like doing them because they just feel so scattered to me, running all over the place.
Id rather exit and do a new mission
Really depends on the PuG. If people are gelling, and staying tight on the <tank/kheld/meatshield>, and know what to do, sides can be very VERY fun. But if it's a team that's not working as a team, sides can be torturous. -
The city map (Map/City tab) in-game has never been updated to reflect stops added to the train lines.
To name just two omissions, there are no Green Line stops indicated in Skyway or Founders' Falls.
The train stops were updated quite a while ago - can't we update the map as well? Could be VERY confusing for newbs.
(I like to "teach a newb to fish" by responding to "How do I get to...?" questions by edumacating them about the City tab on the Map. Can't do that if the map isn't accurate!) -
Bought this card not too long ago and have been super-extremely impressed and happy with the CPR it's given my aging AGP system.
Not sure about hard numbers but going by reviews on the site linked above, this is probably your best buy in terms of price v. performance.
I run most newer games (including Crysis, Fallout3, CoH, etc) at max settings on my old AMD 3500+ single-core system w/ 2Gb ram.
Can even run GTA4 at 1680x1050 with minimal chop. -
Only a big deal for newbs or those of us who try to teach newbs "how to fish" rather than just giving them their "How do I get to...?" fish.
Doesn't help to teach them about the City tab on the Map, if it's incorrect. -
I'm I crazy or does the ingame City map not show the correct connections for the Train lines?
Shows no Green line stop in Skyway or FF, for starters. There may be more artifacts. They re-vamped the tram stops ages ago, didn't they? But I guess they never updated the map? -
Polite request: Could someone please expand this or add another page, that lists all the Zone shortcuts and perhaps explains the best way to use them all.
e.g.
Oro portal - list possible destinations
Pocket D - list locations/possible destinations
Vanguard - list locations/possible destinations
Midnighter base - list locations/possible destinations
etc.
I'd love to have this info all in one place, I'll print it out and tape it to my PC case.
