Damn, that's an awesome visual. Now I'm gonna have to do that too.

/agree.. awesome idea...

very awesome.
i'm waiting to see the light show generated by bot/storm masterminds too
[/ QUOTE ]
I was actually hoping even more for /cold. Three ice covered fire imps would have been even funnier. -

If Dr. Brainstorm appeared in the game, I wonder what his Strike Force would be like...

When you clicked on the final mission door you'd get a popup, "Come back tomorrow" -
The invading Rikti operate the same as the zone Giant Monsters, they are basically level-less. They are automatically level adjusted. Only advantage being higher level is having more powers and better enhancements (which is a definite plus), but any level can particpate and without fear of getting wiped out instantly.

Yay, good timing.
These didn't use to be that fun for me as they were just a slideshow. But just got a new computer so now I'm looking forward to see how it does during these. Already it's been so nice not to come to a screeching halt for several seconds everytime I approach a WW's. -

So, since there were only two pets originally, there were only 2 powers made. I didn't have time to make 6 more powers to match the new entities.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm glad you didn't, and hope you won't even if you do get more time. Anything that allows me to choose the way I look without having to sacrifice the way I perform is a win in my book.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. And that was the first thought I had when the info was leaked. Faeries? How am I going to make that fit say my robot character? Thanks for the additional aesthetic choices, but keeping the buffs the same. Perfect.
Anyway, otherwise we'd figure out which is best and you'd only see one pet 90% of the time anyway. Kind of like what happened with the vast majority of us taking Sands of Mu vs. Ghost Slaying Axe. -
All I can say is I love them. And I think the choices thematically are a lot better than the 36 month ones were. You can't somehow make a ball of light fit your story? Seems pretty general to me.

This will continue through the weekend and conclude the night of Sunday, February 10th.

Please define 'night' used in the referenced quote.
6:00 PM EST?
12:00 AM EST (Actually Monday morning)
When the server resets on Monday Morning?
8:13 MST?
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe that past double xp weekends have ended with the server reset on Monday AM.
[/ QUOTE ]
They usually run from Friday at noon (EST) to Sunday at noon (EST).
[/ QUOTE ]
That one I know is completely wrong...unless you are in some weird time zone, or maybe live in Ouroborus. -

I could be wrong, but I'd swear every other event has lasted through to the Monday morning maintenance. I'd be surprised if otherwise regardless. -

My advice would be to consolidate some of the commonly low traffic servers [...]

NEVER. SPEAK. THOSE. WORDS. AGAIN!!
Server mergers would cause more catastrophic problems than they could ever solve, EVEN if it's just done to "move the PC users out to make room for the console folks".
[/ QUOTE ]
I wonder if they are still looking at going "serverless" though like they mentioned a while back they were investigating. I got the impression that was more "inter-connecting" them rather than merging per se.
Personally I hope so. -

Things I would love to see: (and have asked for, for 3 years now)
1. Teams LFM as an option in team building with an ability to name your team, so that if you were on this great team you could look for it daily.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, many keep asking for this, being able to flag your team as looking for more. One of the few improvements left for them to do that I'm really really hoping they can do.
Right now I find leading a team a chore. The way "having the star" on a team is passed around like a hot potato, I'm not the only one. This would make being a team leader 100 times easier.
Love all the things announced as well. I wonder if "real numbers" will finally cut down on the complaints about accuracy? I heard another great one the other day that someone insisted that RttC was debuffing their accuracy and not the enemy's. -
Ok, I can no longer get the timer to start for the ski run on my current character. Tried selecting different missions, relogging, still nothing. There isn't a limited number of time you can try it is there?
Edit: I entered a baby new year mission with the timer still running, wonder if that messed it up. -
[ QUOTE ]
I started a thread before I saw this. I really like the ski chalet, I really like the Father Time mission.
But I really hate the presents. They're antisocial, they discourage teaming, they encourage working in zones where you'll earn no XP, and they encourage leaving any spawned snowmen behind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, was going to say the same thing. Very surprised they still haven't changed the way the presents are done.
All they'd need to do is if you are in a team and someone clicks a present, all get credit for it toward the badge, and all get the reward if it is "nice". I see more even more bickering in this event than on the Halloween one. People fighting over presents isn't very Christmasy.
The ski chalet part though is great. -

The default setting needs to be on.
90% of the players DO NOT read the forums and thus have no idea what's going on here. Many of that 90% don't bother to read the MotD either.
So if the default setting is off then something like 80% - 90% of the characters won't ever show up on the site. What would be the point behind even having the site to begin with?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think we can safely assume that people that know about the web site will know about the options to enable their characters to be visible. At the very least, they will ask questions about how to do such a thing.
Thus, if 80% - 90% of the characters don't ever show up, then that means either most people don't know the site exists or most people don't want their information seen. If most people don't want their information seen, then NCSoft should honor their wishes by not showing that information. And if most people don't know the site exists, then that makes it even less useful than not having 80% - 90% of the characters not showing up. So I would imagine NCSoft would spend a lot of effort to promote such a site, and thus make people aware of the options to make their characters visible on it.
Nonetheless, even if only 10% - 20% of the player population utilized the site, the characters that they would care about seeing would be their and their friends' characters. And given that those that used the site would likely communicate to their friends about it, I would highly doubt they would miss the 80% - 90% of the characters that didn't show up.
So the default should be off because those that don't know about the site might not know their information was made public. However, those that know about the site will at least be aware that the options exist, if not know exactly how to enable them.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it is more likely that 75% won't care if their character info is displayed or not. (Had to bold character since the way some are reacting you'd think this site will display social security numbers or something).
It will be a much more useful and interesting tool if those 75% are displayed rather than not. The 10% that really really want to be hidden can change their setting. Once again, friend list is hidden by default anyway.
It'd almost be like arguing that everyone should be defaulted to /hide inside the game by default as well. I'm sure some would like that and find typing in /hide everytime they make a new character is such a burden. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
However, I will say this. If they're going to create a web interface where we can see each others characters (something which I seem to recall being discussed back when City of Heroes launched), they ought to be able to put into that interface an option for "Hide all characters from web page" so that people don't have to log in every single character they want to hide and fool with the option.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, please. I'm more than happy to let people see my character, costumes, and even build. Showing off my friends seems a bit too intrusive, though, and it's going to be a pain to go through 20-30 characters just to turn off display of my global friends and such.
[/ QUOTE ]
Look at the screenshot again. Friends list is hidden by default. The other options are not. Which I think is the good choice. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I'd prefer this information to be made available by default. If the default is set to "hide," those who have themselves unhidden will be the exception, rather than the rule, as anyone who doesn't know about or just doesn't care enough to take the time to enable it (but wouldn't especially mind other people seeing their info out of game) would be excluded. In other words, the new feature would likely become very little-used.
I feel that the only ones to be excluded from the system should be those who explicitly decide to be excluded, and I suspect that will be a relatively small segment of the population. I don't see it as an invasion of privacy, even with PvP in the equation, to display a character's bio, power choices, or statistics.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. Really if they made this option hidden by default for everything, they may as well not waste their time doing it for the 10% or so that'd bother turning it on. -
[ QUOTE ]
Could this possibly be expanded to include supergroup stats, such as an auto-updating roster viewable offline?
That would be truly awesome!
[/ QUOTE ]
I was thinking that as well. Having the name of which supergroup a character belongs to as part of what can be displayed along with powers, badges, etc. would be nice. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
... but I would indeed like my characters' privacy to remain intact.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you do not wish to have your character information available in the future, please make use of the above described settings. This is why we are giving advance notification.
Please keep in mind that these settings are on a per-character basis. Also, know that characters who haven't logged in for over 90 days, such as an alt you haven't played in a while, will not be included.
[/ QUOTE ]
Will this be just a list of everyone's characters in no particular order or will they be clumped by something like a global account name?
If they are tied together by account I'll probably just have to go ahead and hide half of them like I'm forced to half the time on global now. I have different groups of characters on different servers and I like to keep their "lives" seperate. -

4) Rude folks two incidents - guardian server I have my daughters lvl 10 controller opening doors in Steel and was standing by door where working. Lvl 18 comes along and opens a door where I was standing. A Lt and minion spawn. Before I could move the Lt drops controller. At least the spawn beats the lvl 18 blaster to pulp. So some satisfaction. Other incident on Victory low level (2nd) scrapper opening doors and level 6 tank coming to kill steal my spawns. He did that several times and eventually I just waited for while for him to move along
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, had the same thing with my lvl 20 controller. A level 25 blaster comes along and keeps killing my tricks. (Funny how whenever I'm killstole from it is always by a blaster when I'm playing a controller).
This event always brings out some rude folks. Reminds me why I love that this game is so instance mission heavy. Best design decision ever. -
So, one slight bug I've noticed so far. After trying on some of the costumes, I'm now stuck with the picture of one of them in my Menu>Personal Info screen. Have tried switching costumes, switching temp powers, zoning, relogging. Still stuck with the ugly head of that swat guy on my personal info box. Any way to fix?
Edit: Finally seems to have reverted back. Only took 20 minutes...nvm. -
[ QUOTE ]
Because coming into the PvP forums to sour the decision of a community you are not a part of actively is just silliness.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except I'm not trying to sour anything. I just feel non-PvP'ers have every right to express their opinion on the one question of:
[ QUOTE ]
(Opinion) What server do you think is the best location to designate as the unofficial place to PVP?
[/ QUOTE ]
Lets put it this way, if the question was about designating a RP server I'd have no problem with anti-RP'ers voting for servers they don't regularly play on. That is just as valid an opinion as RP'ers voting for ones they do call home.
I also feel that a redname organizing all this also goes against the very definition of "unofficial", but that's a whole nother argument. -
Why are you asking non-PvP'ers not to participate in this exactly? Once again devs don't realize that something like this will affect non-PvP'ers. As in I'd transfer my characters OFF a server that was designated as the "PvP server."
Therefore I will "particpate" in this "survey" and choose servers I do not play on as my suggestions for servers to be designated as PvP. -
[ QUOTE ]
VIP Badge does nothing.
It isn't an Accomplishment, so I couldn't put it there.
It isn't an Achievement, so I couldn't put it there.
It has nothing to do with Exploration, so I couldn't put it there.
It has nothing to do with History, so I couldn't put it there.
That left Accolade. I couldn't give it an effect, or the playerbase would be upset that we are "charging money to give some Heroes an advantage over others", and rightly so.
[/ QUOTE ]
Looking back that quote is a bit funny now though. A jump pack and pocket D teleport have some nice effects that I certainly consider "an advantage" well worth the extra $. -
It is also fixing a problem that outside of maybe the STF and a few forum built superteams, isn't even on the radar of your average player.
The usual comment I hear when on a PuG that starts to get heavy on defenders/controllers? "We need some damage, invite a blaster or scrapper please!" Or on a team with 4 defenders and a tank and before we could even get started, "Wow, no damage on this team." Average player still thinks defender=healer with pitiful damage they shouldn't even be wasting their endurance on.
I think I'd be on the side that says it isn't worth the resources. I'd also be afraid if anything was done they'd go with something stupid and easy like the controller PToD binary fix rather than a scaling one. -
[ QUOTE ]
Wow, do people really not make Science characters because they're scared of the Vahzilok? Wow. Just wow.
Ahem, sorry. Back to the thread.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, heard it more than once. It was also one of the most common reasons given back when I read a thread once polling which city people liked to start in, Atlas or Galaxy. I always much prefered Galaxy, not only for extra quiet but just found the layout easier, so I was curious myself.
Numerous people said they hated starting in Galaxy just because there were Vahz there. From what I've seen they've added some Vahz to AP now too though.
