  1. Protector is also home to an all defender SG, Defenders of the Night, which won "Best SG of Server" for Protector when Mythic ran that contest for every server. Been a while since I've been on Protector though, not sure they are active anymore.

But I can say any all defender team with just about any mix of primaries works great. In my experience, the DoTN teams with a random mix were almost as good as the all-rad groups we did. Sometimes better since sometimes the all rad groups were a bit too controller heavy and lacked damage.

I'm sure the sonic/ff/kinetics will work great. Personally I'd still add a dark in there. You'd get some psi protection, have a pet to take alpha when needed, and still add extra damage and control with tar patch and their other powers. And not sure you need 4 fulcrum shifts to reach damage cap so 4 kinetics seems overkill.. But, you seem set against them, so whatever, it's your idea, have fun with it.

These all seem like reasonable changes. While you're fixing Ice Arrow, please review the changes made to Petrfying Gaze. It is now the worst single target hold in the game, worse than many holds in secondary or Ancillary pools.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, considering the change made to ice arrow, I think it is pretty clear you'll see nerfs to the other holds (like tesla cage), not any buff to Petrifying Gaze.

Atlas is flat. Galaxy seems better suited to people who at least have the first few minor-travel powers, such as hover, combat jumping or even hurdle/swift. Otherwise its a bit annoying to get around.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Funny because I feel the exact opposite. Atlas flat? Didn't strike me as so, but at the least it has a lot more high walls and over/under passes to figure your way around than GC does. I to this day always find it a pain to navigate around that industrial area especially.

Even the train can be a pain to reach in Atlas if you approach it from the wrong direction. GC tram is closer to the main trainer and not something you regularly need a stairway or ledge to reach.

I haven't actually measured it, but GC also just feels smaller, which means faster to get to your missions and back. I get to level 5 easily faster starting in GC.
  4. More on the only child in the game, Penny, would be nice to see too. Like doesn't she get lonely with no one else her age to play with?
  5. Looks like some very cool stuff.

Now we just need a slider for power graphic effects so that people with fire shield, dark armor, etc. can actually be seen in their new clothes instead of just being blobs and we'd be all set.
  6. [ QUOTE ]

Yes as all the dam nerfing that happened to tankers, like that punchvoke, changing taunt into a better provoce, aura-voke, alowing ice and stone to stake there armours, stopping stone from be to ugly to play... dam poor tankers they where nerfed to hell. I sure hope they dont do that to controlers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You forgot adding mobility to unyielding for invuln and moving the status resistances to the shields for fire.

And I too see more tankers (of every type) than ever before since the "nerfs." Funny how that is.

    Let's not forget Perez Park!!!

When I first started playing CoH, Perez is where you went to group up, and that's how you learned what your role was in a group at low levels. Later, you could go Hydra hunting and get insane XP for everyone in the group.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is funny. Every time I tried Perez Hydra hunting it was horrendous experience. They seem overly difficult with little payoff.

I think I even remember one of those "You know you're with a group of newbs when..." threads which had posted "they suggest going hydra hunting." and most seemed to agree.

I'd like to see a scrapper with superspeed and hurdle in the pvp arena vs. a blaster with hover and fly before I fully agree that fly is the weakest travel power.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Perfect example of why there are so many against PvP and sad to see it coming. If people think the nerfs and changes were bad to this point....we got a whole new universe of nerfs coming.

I can complete missions with super speed on without having to engage any enemies at all because of its stealth and speed. Try that with fly. You get in trouble and have super speed you turn it on and you are gone from combat with at most one parting hit. Try that with fly and you'll get hit 2 or 3 more times trying to get away. So how is fly the "safest" again?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well to be fair, you're shifting context here. No doubt Superspeed is a better combat power. Fly is not designed to be an effective combat power. Hover is. But as a safer travel power Fly fits the bill.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not shifting the context here at all. Geko stated that fly was the "Safest no matter how you slice it ". A blatantly incorrect statement. Statements such as that and him stating that if fly were faster that there'd be no reason to take superspeed are what make players wonder if designers play their own game.

My controller respeced from fly to superspeed for the stealth alone since SS stacks with my steamy mist while the stealth pool does not. I've never understood that either, but that is probably for another thread.

The travel speed increase was just a side bonus. For vertical movement? I got hover.
  10. No, not a serious issue, but I'd prefer to see a few more flier around instead of everyone super speeding around like I do now. I'd be very curious as to the actual numbers, current numbers, of how many take super speed and how many take flight.

In my personal observations in the beginning almost everyone took flight. Once super speed got stealth and everyone realized how uber hasten way anyway, super speed has become the travel power of choice.

This is why in Beta we sugested a reduction in power to the Enhancements.

    Particularly DO and SO's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep, agreed with that idea when I saw it back then too. At least and especially for damage (which are probably the most popular type). Make damage enhancements on the same scale as defense and resistance enhancements (5/10/20).

There is also the issue of things like the respec trial, which was even before the change considered very difficult for the average group.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Before the change, there was a success rate of just under 80%.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I always wondered does that statistic include groups that all quit out of frustration or just those where you get the "mission failed" message because time runs out or the reactor is destroyed?

Most of the times that failed for me it was after the group was all killed several times and everyone just quit, we never actually "failed"

    Boss Changes

    [ QUOTE ]
Finally, might I suggest removing the AVs from the 40+ missions and replacing them with Elite Bosses? That's a great new category and it better fits standard missions. Leave AVs for TF, trials and such.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually AV's start showing up in missions in your 30's, not 40's. Between doing it myself and with friends I think I've faced the Envoy of Shadows a dozen or more times already and Altered Tanya maybe 4 times with my now 37 controller. I think that the Envoy showing up 3 times during one arc is a bit ridiculous period.

    Boss Changes

There is also the issue of things like the respec trial, which was even before the change considered very difficult for the average group.

Now that trial (which is designed for flawed character to begin with) has gone beyond even "very difficult."

Any chance of scaling down the difficulty of that one a tad in light of these changes?

I've never liked Boomtown. Lots of people dig it for low level hunting, but I'm not a hunter. It's too hard to get around when all you have is SS and Hurdle.

IP is another good hunting zone. But very poorly designed. It's too big. Some of the contacts are at the absolute extremes of the map.

KR, as said by another poster, has been outpaced by the Hollows.

I cringe every time I need to go to Skyway for something.

    I *love* the Hollows.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And that shows this game has a good variety because my opinion is the exact opposite on all of the above.

    I like Boomtown.

I prefer IP over Talos. Never understood why Talos seems more popular.

I like KR a lot and do not like Hollows.

I love Skyway. One of my favorite zones in the whole game. I cringe whenever I'm forced to visit its overcrowded sister Steel Canyon.
  16. Interesting to see how Statesman keeps acknowledging that support classes aren't needed enough and then the changes you see keep making them even less needed. One of those things that makes you go hmmmm.

Glad I already gave up playing my defender quite a while ago.

    More answers....

1)Okay on trenchcoats, what about long skirts, dresses, robes?
2)Adding character level to the Super Group window?
  18. I personally like Gloom better than moonbeam, but can see the appeal to most of seeing the big number hit instead of the dots tick off. Other than that though, I see myself pretty much following your ideas for my rad/dark. Great guide and good job. 5 star to you.
  19. Great guide and I thought very well written. I prefer ice/devices just because I like to be a little more "controller-like" (controller is my actual favorite AT and my main is mind/force field, pity me if you wish ).

However, I'm choosing ice full-well knowing it isn't the "fastest." Still found lots of useful advice here, thanks for taking the time to write it.
  20. Yes, thank you. I could not believe the strategy guide had a detailed list and description of enemies and did not list which SO's they dropped!

Now I find out it definitely is not logical. For example I assumed since natural origins get 5th column missions to start that 5th column would be the ones to drop natural single origins, but they drop mutant? Duh.

And here I thought I was avoiding the 5th (and their psionic resistant robots) by making my mind controller mutant, just my luck they end up being the ones to drop mutant SO's
