Quote:With respect to the two Defense Debuffs, that's kinda what I was doing with them, in the same way as what you are suggesting with the end/rech of the Knockback set. Plus I get 10% Regen boost. An end/rech enhancement doesn't enhance knockback, it only enhances end and rech. It's just in a knockback set, which the powers conveniently can take.
You could use the procs for Boxing and anywhere else you're muling Kinetic Combat sets on other characters/builds, or you could use enhancement converters to turn them into some other piece. (Yes, store-bought enhancements can be Converted.)
And yeah, otherwise the build looks fine; I'm a little wary about endurance, but not sure just looking at it "on paper".
And I did not know I could convert those store bought attuned enhancements. Good to know!
The endurance on this build definitely worries me. I will try to tweak it, but the cardiac incarnate will be the first on my list. -
Quote:Ok, why end/rech from a knockback? I dislike knockback but love knockdown.I'd probably keep the Oblit sets, for the recharge and accuracy bonuses, but replace the proc or the acc/rech with a generic endredux, or maybe an end/rech from a knockback set.
Also, I have several attuned Kinetic Combat: Chance to Knockdown that I bought a long time ago. That's why I was slotting them. What should I do with them?
And other than these suggestions, does the build look alright to you? -
Quote:Great feedback. Thank you. So are you suggesting I taking the Obliterations in Whirling and Arc down to 5 instead of 6, and reuse those 2 available slots some where else? Or are you suggesting I put a different set in those two powers altogether?I think the Analyze Weakness sets are a weird choice, and I definitely agree that the Kinetic Combat: dam/end/rech would be better than the knockdown procs.
Conserve Power should get a recharge IO in its one slot, presumably.
The Endmod/Rech in Stamina, and the Endmod in Physical Perfection, would both be better replaced by the Performance Shifter: Chance for +End. The proc is worth .2% end/sec, averaged over time, which is more than you're getting from either enhancement now.
You could save a slot by putting the Gladiator's Armor unique in Grounded, rather than slotting it for resistance (which gives very minimal benefit, since your energy resist is easily capped anyway and the NE resistance from the power is very small).
You're actually several percent past the S/L softcap, which is not necessarily bad since it gives you a bit of padding against debuffs and gets you closer to the trial softcap, but you could afford to drop an S/L defense bonus or two. The Obliteration sets in Whirling and Arc, probably; Obliteration gives very little cost reduction, which is far from ideal for the most expensive attacks in an infamously thirsty set.
Your endurance drain from toggles is alarmingly high to me, but with Cardiac and Elec Armor's tools it's probably manageable.
Also, when you're just slotting one single-aspect IO (like you have in Super Jump and Power Sink), there's no benefit to using a set IO - a generic jump or endmod or etc gives the same benefit, and is cheaper, sometimes by a fair amount.
And for some things like Springfoot, I just happened to have them already, so I figure why not... -
Quote:Once again, you are 100% correct. Thank you.You might be comparing the damage with Build Momentum on (on the old build) to the damage with Build Momentum off (on the new build). Otherwise, powers seem to do the same damage to me comparing both builds with BM turned off.
Unrelated, but I'd suggest changing those Kinetic Combat knockdown procs for Kinetic Combat dam/end/rech. A chance for knockdown just isn't useful as a regular enhancement when you aren't even at the ED cap for damage yet, if you ask me.
So what do you think of this new build? -
Ok, thanks for your excellent explanation!! I tend to use my AoE powers the most, followed by Rend Armor, so I got the accuracy up on those power sets specifically. However, I have seen a dramatic reduction in the damage each power does, specifically the three AoE powers. Is that just something I will need to live with as a tradeoff?
Here's the new build out. Is this better? Is the S/L DEF good? Are the resistances, regeneration and endurance recorvery acceptable?

Quote:Ok, I tried to change the Exemping & Base values, but they were all greyed out except for the 75 value. I am not sure what to change it to.The "Accuracy: x% (y)" part in the individual power tab on the bottom left, x being the relevant number and y the base.
I believe y is, by default, 75 - which is the chance to hit against even-level foes. Against +4s, (IIRC) it's 36, and 48 against +3s. You can set y to any value you want in Options -> Configuration -> Exemping & Base Values.
With your new build you're still a little short even against +3s. Build Momentum is toggled on and inflates your tohit chance beyond where it will be at most of the time.
So what should I do to increase my accuracy? Any Suggestions? -
So is the accuracy you are referring to the ToHit bonusin Mids?
Also, here is an updated build. I still have under slotted Conductive & Static Shields. Any suggestions?

Quote:You have a bunch of problems with your build:
- Accuracy of your attacks against +4 enemies are around 70% which isn't great for any power set but considering you need the attacks to hit to get momentum, it's even worse for tw. Try aiming for 95%.
- Conductive Shield, Grounded and Static Shield are way underslotted. Yes you don't need them to cap energy resistance, but resistance is really one of your main strengths with electric, so you don't really have the option to underslot like that.
- Your recharge isn't that great with Hasten no where near perma. If your recharge is that low I would really consider using Defensive Sweep. Its dps sucks but it gives you a great defensive boost and as long as your build doesn't allow for one of the top dps chains anyway, you're not losing much by using it.
I am going to guess you are on a budget considering you don't have any purples slotted at all, so you will have to live with some shortcomings. But maybe check out this thread for a few ideas:
http://boards.coh.com/showthread.php?t=293144
Thank you rina and Nihilii. What do you mean by my accuracy of my attacks being 70% and that it should be at 95%. Are you referring to my Accuracy buff? If so, Mids is reporting 27%.
Clearly, I am confused. Can you help me to understand? -
Ok, here is my first stab at this build...very interested to hear everyone's feedback...Fire away...

Hi Everyone,
It's your friendly, neighborhood TW hater. NOT AT ALL!! I used to not like TW, but it just took time to learn how to play it after taking my DB/WP and Elec/SD scrappers to level 50. But, I gave TW/ElecA a really good chance, and now I LOVE it.
My character is now at level 47, and I really could use some help with slotting it. Most advice is for a TW/EA, or the TW/ElA advice is a little old.
So any suggestion on how to build out this character?
Thanks in advance... -
Ok, I got my TW/ElA scrapper to 47, and I LOVE it. It just took some time to learn how to play it after playing my DB/WP and Elec/SD level 50 scrappers.
So, any suggestions on how to slot the TW/ElA? -
Cool, thank you Jack_NoMind!
I notice that you took Soul Mastery and Shadow Meld. Is that a requirement for the build? I don't have Soul Mastery, and was considering Body Mastery.
If I do need SM, is that I need to go rogue and then back to hero to get it? I have always been a hero... -
Howdy Folks,
I am building a Katana/Electric Armor scrapper. I am level 38, and trying to figure this build out, since I am not used to a focus on resists.
Anyone have a good, robust build they can post?
I'm looking for everything... all the way to 50, and some of the incarnate choices as well. -
I'm disillusioned with TW. I am trying it now as TW/EA (level 41) scrapper and TW/ElA (level 26) scrapper, so this isn't just a quick reaction. I am not comfortable with it.
Maybe it's that it feels like I am chasing Momentum like I would be chasing Fury as a brute. I just want my powers ready to go.
I have a level 50 Elec/SD scrapper and a level 50 DB/WP scrapper. Even with the chaining in the DB, I can use those powers even if they are haven't been setup as part of a chain. That is cool! Yes, TW is amazingly powerful, but half the time I am watching a blaster knock the foes around me away while my Arc of Devastation is still winding up. Blehhh!
I know it's now what the OP originally asked, but I am just annoyed with TW right now. -
Too late.
I was corresponding with PricessDarkstar on a separate thread, and the whole issue around why we aren't thrilled with TW/* scrappers is similar to why we don't like brutes. Here's what I said:
Quote:We ARE exactly the same PrincessDarkstar! I was doing the Summer Event last night with several of my scrappers, the DB/WP, Elec/SD, TW/EA, and TW/ElA, and it was so disappointing playing as the TW/* scrappers, both of which were the only ones which died (in the coliseum portion).
You are dead on about chasing a TW's Momentum being like chasing Fury in a brute. That's why I like scrappers -- not having to pay attention to such things!! I may continue to level my TW/* scrappers up to 50 if I get bored, but probably not. They just doesn't feel right, especially while waiting for my Arc of Devastation to wind up, while watching a blaster come along and send all my potential foes flying away. Grrrrr! -
Quote:Now I remember it I think the lack of a taunt aura in /Elec was the killer for me. I didn't really like Momentum in the end because I play scrappers for that 100% uptime feeling and Momentum kind of made me feel like a brute chasing his Fury bar, but it was seeing everyone else steal aggro fro me that really got to me.
/Energy does have a taunt aura, however small which is probably another plus in it's favour.

Give me Lightning Rod and Shield Bash, or give me death!
So, what other scrapper builds do you enjoy PrincessDarkstar? -
Oh, and @PrincessDarkstar, if I go to 50 with my TW/EA, should I get Physical Perfection, or Shadow Meld for iTrials?
-
What s the taunt aura in /EA? Is it Entropic Aura?
-
Quote:Thank you PrincessDarkstar. I favorite'd your other post about TW builds from a while back and am looking at them today. Maybe I need to revisit my TW/EA. Maybe I am just spoiled by my Elec/SD and DB/WP level 50 scrappersI have a TW/Elec and a DB/Nrg and at the moment I am leaning towards /Nrg being the better secondary.
On my /Elec I managed to have endurance issues , and I would suspect both secondaries would have similar issues which puts /Nrg ahead because Energy Drain > whatever Elec uses.
Also I would not build an /Elec without Shadow Meld to hit the i-cap, which stops you picking up Physical Perfection to help with those endurance issues, and you have no such issue with /Nrg.
/Elec will help you do the greater damage I imagine (And probably slightly greater survivability assuming you take a specific build path), but I think /Nrg gives you greater freedom.
So more freedom with /EA than /ElA, but a little less damage. Do I have that right? -
Well, I got bored with my level 41 TW/EA scrapper. Maybe because it was so slow compared to my Elec/SD scrapper, or required too many clicks compared to my DB/WP scrapper. Who knows?
But I kept hearing about TW/ElA, but in terms of brutes. I decided to try it out as a scrapper.
I am up to level 25 with my TW/ElA scrapper, and so far, it seems fun.
But I am worried about foes running away, and other issues. Where is the taunt in /EA that I don't have in /ElA?
And what are other holes do I need to worry about wit the /ElA secondary?
Or, should I just go back to my TW/EA and get her to 50 before abandoning her?? Am I just spoiled by my Elec/SD 50 scrapper?
Lesser important question: why do I want a stealth option for my TW? Seems contrary to the theme of wielding a gigantic sword...
Thanks in advance... -
I haven't played this character for a while, but I did get her up to level 41. So now that I am interested in titan weapons again, I keep reading that TW/Ela is the best build, i.e., Electric Armor being the better secondary than Energy.
But is that for just Brutes or Scrappers as well? In other words, is TW/ElA good for a scrapper, or is TW/EA better for a scrapper? -
Gotcha. Well, I am auto-toggling my Barier incarnate ability (currently T3 alomost T4), but I pop AD and Buildup pretty often too.
-
Quote:There's so many builds up there, I'm not sure which one(s) we're each working with!
I was working from the last one I saw (posted 04-07-2012 05:09 PM), and with my suggested change it's at 47.5 melee, 47.5 ranged, 48.5 AoE.

That works too, and yes, you've met the soft caps on all three!
Ahhh, ok I see what I did differently. I put Obliterations in Jacob's Ladder and Thunderstrike, instead of the Scirroco's Dervish enhancements. I swapped out the Oblits in Thunderstrike, and that made all the difference. Now, I have 47.5 melee, 47.5 ranged, 48.5 AoE (up from 45.4) as well.
I could still take one of the Perf Shifters out and add it to the Oblits in Jacob's Ladder to get the recharge bonus, but then my AoE would drop from 48.5 to 45.4 again. Hmmmm, not sure if it is worth it. My Haste is already above 70%.
Decisions, decisions, decisions... -
Quote:But if I take a slot away from Perf Shift and add it to charged Brawl to make it 6 slot Mako's, won't i lose the 3.75% on AoE? I tried the suggestion, and I got melee: 47.5%, ranged: 47.5% and aoe: 42.2%Glad it made sense -- writing it at 1 AM, I wasn't sure that it would.
A few things jump out at me -- in a perfect world, you could swap a little AoE defense to get the ranged defense up to the softcap. If you had one stray slot somewhere, I'd think about putting a set of Mako's Bite into Charged Brawl for an easy solution, but I don't see any obvious slots to spare.
...at a second glance, if you took the Perf Shifter: Acc/Recharge out of Stamina, put it in Charged Brawl with a full set of Mako's, that WOULD get you to 47.5% melee, 47.5% ranged, and 48.5% AoE! Not sure that you'd want to give up the accuracy and recharge for a damage bonus, but it's an option. [Those last couple of points to get over the softcap may not seem like much, but my elec/SD has 45.6 melee, 45 ranged, 44.1 AoE without Combat Jumping, and I DEFINITELY notice the hits coming through fighting 54's when I forget and leave Super Jump on instead. "Why am I taking so much damage? Oh, duh. <click> MUCH better!"]
The single Blessing of the Zephyr in Super Jump suggests that it used to be part of a set, but since there's just the one, it's not giving you any sort of bonuses. You could put in a generic Jump IO and save a few million INF.
Any of those will work; you could perhaps also try to slot for a little less recharge and more end reduction in a couple of attacks, like Char/Fire Blast/Fire Ball? I think a lot of elec/SD scrappers are END use intensive, but I went with Musculature on mine for more "boom!" when I Build Up/Shield Charge/Lightning Rod.
FURTHER EDIT: Took one of the slots from Jacob's Ladder and added it to Charged Brawl, and then 6 slotted it with Mako's. Now, I am at Melee: 47.5%, Ranged: 47.5% and AoE: 45.4%. have I met the soft caps on all of them now?
Also, I am jsut 1 VR shy of getting the T4 in Barrier for Destiny. Hope I made the right choice there. And I took Cardiac for my Alpha. -
Quote:I love the explanation. Thank you!!Most attacks are composed of two types of damage. (There are some attacks that are actually more, but for this example we'll stick to the basic ones, and I'll probably oversimplify in the process.)
Let's say you're fighting good ol' Council thugs, and one wants to punch your scrapper in the face. It's a punch, so it's melee, and let's pretend it's just a regular, Brawl sort of punch, so it's smashing damage. The RNG will ask itself "what's the scrapper's melee defense? 43%? And what's the smashing defense? Not as much. We'll use the 43%."
Another Council thug shoots at your scrapper with his assault rifle. Even if he's standing next to your character, the bullets are still a ranged attack, and do lethal damage. The RNG says "what's the scrapper's ranged defense? Softcapped at 45%! And the lethal defense is...meh. We'll use the 45% from ranged."
Now a third Council thug throws a fragmentation grenade into your scrapper's general vicinity. It's an AoE attack, and does lethal damage. The RNG will look at your character's AoE defense, and his lethal defense, and pick the AoE since it's the higher of the two.
In all three cases above, it doesn't matter if the smashing/lethal defense is 28% or 4%, since the positional defenses is higher!
In general, you can either build for "positional" defense (melee, ranged and AoE) or "typed" defense (smashing/lethal, fire/cold, energy/negative, etc.) and pretty much ignore the other sort. Each secondary already starts off with one sort of defense better than the other, just using SO's. Willpower works best by adding to the inherent smallish typed defenses, while Super Reflexes and Shield work best by adding to the already huge positional defenses.
People sometimes attempt to go for "the wrong kind of defenses" -- like aiming for positional defenses with willpower -- but it almost always works better by adding to the sorts of defense that the character already has.
I think i have it down now and so I am going to respec based on that last build above. What do you think of it?
Also, what Alpha should I go with? I seem to be very End Usage Heavy.- Cardiac: This helps with End Usage
- Agility: This helps with End Recovery
- Vigor: This focuses on End Usage too, but not as much as Cardiac
