  1. I've never done this before. I'm considering this for the 7 anniversary because this is a big deal. 7 years is a long time for a game.

I went here but the copy never completed. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/charactercopy.php

Do I have to do something else? Also, does my character level in relations to my freedom game character or do I have to "copy" as I level? Which server do I chose, public test or going rogue?

Do I still have to do all of this:

HOW TO ACCESS THE TRAINING ROOM TEST SERVER WITH A PC

In order to access the test server with a PC, you will need to download and install a second copy of the game. This second copy will patch up the test files to your PC. The steps for this process are outlined below.

    1. Locate the file 'CohUpdater.exe'. If the game was installed to the default folder then look for: 'C:\Program Files\City of Heroes'. Do not create a shortcut for the desktop shortcut. To do this, you will have to locate the City of Heroes folder.

    2. After you locate the City of Heroes folder, you will need to create a new shortcut to the cohupdater.exe file in the City of Heroes folder. To create a shortcut, right click on the file you wish to create a shortcut for. You can then select an option Create Shortcut which will then create the shortcut.

    3. Right click on the new shortcut and open the Properties option.

    4. In the Target window, add the following flag to the end of the line:

    [space]-test

Do NOT add the word [space] to the Target. The example shown is intended to visually represent a single keystroke of the space bar, and should not be interpreted literally. An example of the correct use of the Flag is listed below.

The finished selection should look like this after you add the flag:

    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -test

Below are possible incorrect additions of the flag to add the test client. The selection should NOT look like this:

    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"-test

    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater-test.exe"

    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe-test"

    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"[SPACE]-test

Also, this line in the shortcut can take multiple arguments. That is to say, if you have multiple things you want to tell the game when it launches like -test and -compatiblecursors 1 you just tag them all on the end, like:

    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -test -compatiblecursors 1

    5. Run the shortcut.

The first time you run the shortcut, you will be asked whether you want to install the test client to the default directory. Choose Yes if you want to install it there, or choose No if you want to choose a different directory. We strongly recommended that you install the test client to a different location than your normal game client.
  2. Myrdinn, you can count on me but this late puts us in the 3 reds zone...you know what that means, right? All nights please. Diva Attitude, Grav/Elec Assault Dom. Who's megpie and how do I get my WST for the week?

Finally, I've heard the idea that because players clearly don't care about story, then the developers should stop trying to make good stories. This, to me, is would be the worst thing to do to a game - to attempt to develop it to the absolute worst quality that you can get away with while neglecting as many aspects as possible. This is not the making of a good game, let alone a great game.
It's not that we don't care about the story...inside the MMO is the wrong place to develop/spell out it's details. I think they need to use more cutscences but that will make the game more expensive. In a compromise, I think they need a "legends" comic or publish more novels like Cryptic did for STO and early CoH.

Even Blizzard has done the latter to satisfy questions about lore. Wow and StarCraft has extensive histories/lore.

NO but this is important. This will make it more difficult.

Lambda Sector's forces fixed a problem with their jump boots. IDF and Warworks forces will now be able to assist Marauder if he is fought on the roof of Lambda Sector.
  5. patch notes:

    INCARNATE TRIALS
    • Reward tables for endgame events have been adjusted based upon collected data.
      • Players will now find their chance of being awarded higher tier rewards has been slightly increased.
    • The following powers can now be used during Incarnate Trials and other instances where Temporary Powers were disabled
      • Event Costume Powers
      • Halloween Costume Powers
      • Travel-Only Temp Powers such as the Raptor Pack (these are still unavailable during Arena matches)
    • The Objective section of an Incarnate Trial should now display When the Zone Event UI is minimized
    Incarnate Trial - Lambda Sector
    • Removed checks on the number of players present in Lambda Sector's first two stages.
    • Players should no longer be able to get stuck on the door leading to the interior of Lambda Sector.
    • The mini-map location inside Lambda Sector where player markers first appear should no longer be missing room graphics.
    • Lambda Sector's forces fixed a problem with their jump boots. IDF and Warworks forces will now be able to assist Marauder if he is fought on the roof of Lambda Sector.

If that's how it worked I can't see too many people being willing to sacrifice umpteen levels on their 50 in order to pact to a lower character (especially as it would probably result in the loss of any Incarnate stuff too)

I could see maybe extending the pacting level range up to level 20 or so, since that seems to be a popular level to gate things at lately. But that's about as far as I'd take it.

Don't think I'd support more than 2 in a pact unless presented with some really good arguments for it. Super Sidekicking already allows us to play together at any level.
Claws, are you sure? How did you initiate the pact? I just did 5 pacts last week and some were at my level but others pacts the user was higher. On the higher user, I got to "train" up and now it's my turn to do lifting.

How many leveling pacts can 1 character create? I assumed 1-1 but can you do more? If so, what are the ramifications.
  8. I care about the story but not during the game. For example, I read the comic books before I joined the game. I understand enough to enjoy the game but I hate "reading" during game play. I don't like the CoH "clues" and stuff and I ignore them during the game. I paid attention to them when I first joined but now I'm here to level so they just slow me down. Personally, I think cutscenes are the best way to tell the story but it requires lots design/creative talent.

CoH is different in that the Devs weren't give strict orders on how to deliver the IP. The last comic book I read was about Praetoria. Also, I read the Web of Arachnos and the Freedom Phalanx. Nice stories but I'm absolutely happy to wait and see how the MMO story unfolds because wer are in uncharted waters. I don't need to know every little detail. I just don't feel the game is best play to try to communicate everything. The MMO is really about key points and we "fight out" the details right?

Part of the reason for leveling pacts was to allow to characters to always be the same level, so that when they did play together they could experience the same thing without the need for Sidekick Tetris.

I do know a few players who used leveling pacts as a way to *slow down* XP gain on a character they wanted to play, while simultaneously leveling up a character that they wanted to mess around with, but only at a higher level. (For example, a Fire/kin that they wanted for solo farming.) The characters that they actually mostly played and teamed with were pacted to offline characters that were really just along for the ride. I know one other who used it as a way to powerlevel two characters at once. The characters would be pacted (one from each of that player's accounts) and then one of them would join an AE team or some other farming map.

With Super Sidekicking, I can't really see the devs putting much more time into leveling pacts. For most players, SSK serves the purpose of allowing to characters to "always play together," with the only real exception being task forces, and other level-gated content like Cimerora.

Note, I'm not claiming that there aren't legitimate uses of leveling pacts. I just think that those are probably served "well enough" by the existing systems that the devs probably aren't going to make any additional changes a real priority.
My reason for using the leveling was not "to be on the same level" but to share the "cost" of leveling a toon. My friends have some toons they want to level over the next year. Leveling will let us do this will less effort.
  11. Add me, please. Diva Attitude, @gcarlisle, Grav/Elec Assault Dom.
  12. My concern with the leveling pact is if you broaden it too far it's going to be abused. I would like to see a pact where the characters are within 5 levels of each other but if not then I like it the way it is. Also, the wisdom of doing this only at the beginning prevents a lot of problems and probably only vets will use this because new people won't understand this the first time. If someone isn't commited to their character fully they won't do the leveling pact.
  13. My merc hit 45 today and I now have the Thunderstrike. I don't regret this!! Watch out for Shadow lightning tanks!!
  14. We were so close tonight. The disconnects just killed me, I wish I hadn't come. You guys would have done it tonight. After I left I went to the hero side to do maintenance on my account and had no disconnects....funny isn't it? They devs need to look at this trail again.
  15. Saturday was a Scratch, Dr. Gamma was the only one that showed.
  16. I'll be there as backup. I'd like go for these with my new 4 slotted Incarnate. Diva Attitude
  17. I'm online now. Just meet by war witch again. I'll organize till/if Myrdinn shows up. Start showing at *8:15 so we can start on time and I can add pugs if necessary.

One thing I've been wondering about though, is with the League, will this open up CoP a little more? Do you still have to have 3 leaders from the same SG with base access or will the League system allow if the League leader's SG has access?

First paragraph reply, it's just a management tool for the raids, you can teleport everyone there right?

Second paragraph, Only one way to find.

    League Question

New group play features. Leagues allowing groups of up to 48 players to work together; and an upgraded Looking For Group function that allows players to sign up for an Incarnate Trial from almost anywhere in the game.

Has anyone taking 48 players into BAF or Lambda? I thought 24 and 16 were the max.
  20. Will statistics ever show up here? I looked at it today and it had no statistics at all. I viewed it near/in front of the Talos "T" Station.
  21. Did the whole crash or did an instance shutdown? I was Freedom last night until 1:30am to maybe 2:30 and I didn't get booted. Maybe I logged off just before it happened. I was 2 yellow when I left.
  22. Just follow-up, I quit the game thursday night because it was so bad. I came back the next day and I had no problems. I think the game must of been really busy thursday night. I was on all day Friday in the same hotel with no problems. Thanks for the comments.
  23. Just do control, printscreen if this doesn't work and paste them in microsoft paint(integrated with Windows 7).
  24. this is just horrible. Lag is bad, my zoning is bad and I'm being bumped from the game about every 30 minutes. I might call it a night. It's all 3 reds...it may get worse from here.
