This is an off topic post. A patch is coming to address lag this week:
Told to remove my post. -
My only issue with the graphics is that the shield one slows my inputs to the tray. I can't target or the fire-offs are delayed/not accepted. I had this problem since i20 but I noticed it yesterday because I'm playing the game everday this week, LGTF. All lgtfs went smoothly this week except for yesterday which had mostly incarnates 50+. I do the lgtf tonight and tomorrow so I'll post if I have problems again.
edit: My issue is when I'm "shielded" by another incarnate 50+ or group shielded. -
just fyi...not related to bases:
Since each video card and hardware configuration can be different, I would not be able to provide you the perfect settings to balance both performance and visual display. However, I can point you to the options I have observed that impact performance the most within the game.
Ambient Occlusion is an option which adds realism to things like shadows and edges. By setting this higher, you will notice a sharper difference in items like the corners of objects. Water effects will provide more realism to how water appears (i.e. motion, reflections, etc). Environmental reflections impact things like how you see your character in windows and glass. These are just a small sampling of the overall list of options which can alter performance. As these settings are configured to higher levels, it places more of a burden on the processing power of the video card. While the video card is working to process the various shapes, updates and animations, the application slows down as it waits for the video processes to complete.
From a troubleshooting perspective, I would recommend going back to defaults with the graphics options by selecting the 'Set to Defaults' button to see how your performance is impacted. If your performance is acceptable, you will need to make a decision on what options you would like to change. Most of the adjustments are made in real time so you can see the difference with each option. I would highly recommend altering only one setting at a time to make it easier to identify which option is causing the most difficulty.
On a possibly related note, I was made aware of a patch targeted for next week. I was just informed of it this morning, so we didn't have the information for you earlier. This patch is scheduled to include fixes for some lag related issues, particularly surrounding the combat numbers and log chat. If you are keeping track of these kinds of items, you may try turning these off temporarily to see if your play experience improves. This patch should be applied before the surge event of next week, so you may see additional improvement once it is available.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Quote:Your make the assumption that the devs have told us everything and your not accounting for the bugs that exist in every piece of man-made software.Eh, you might think that with all your edumacations and understanding of basic statistics (we're talking high school level stuff here, not college level) and your readin' comprehensions and all that guff, but he KNOWS the answer in his heart and soul, which overrides and invalidates complimicated stuff like basic mathematics, testing, and basic logical principles. When you KNOW something even the person who created the thing in question is less informed of the TRUTH than you. Evidence and reason is trumped, nay, invalidated, by KNOWING.
KNOWING.
So there. -
Quote:I wish I had status from Dec. I so wish I did. I've run LGTF so many times I've lost count. At least once a month, I've run it non-stop in dedicated weekends(4days) till I feel asleep at the console. You may HEAR what I'm saying, but clearly you don't understand it. Ten runs is MEANINGLESS to judge randomness.

Quote:I agree their different but "Freemium" is unattractive to BUSINESS..which exists to make PROFIT. Freemium must change it's name. In another company's case...let's not talk about thatAnother company already did it right and the proof is that the freemium game is draining customers away from its sister subscription game. Those "Live" subscription players who swore that freemium would destroy their game and they wanted nothing to do with it are being drawn over by the prospect of the huge influx of new players to adventure with. A fact that also addresses the concern of the poster upstream who asked for proof that making a freemium version of a subscription MMO would actually draw in an influx of new players.
What they did wrong, actually, was that when the experiment began their goal was NOT to really create a freemium game so much as to create a freemium gateway that would funnel the freemium players into subscriptions.
They learned the hard way that the majority of the freemium players were resistant to subscriptions to the point that they would rather quit the game when they hit the edges of the freemium tier than subscribe and get blanket access to everything.
This is a factor in freemium game customers that I have frequently observed, yet seen little discussion about from the standpoint of design. Many (I feel I should say "most" but have no statistical basis for saying it) are motivated to stay freemium because they enjoy the sense of control and planning afforded by the ala carte purchasing system. There is a sense of both freedom and investment in buying exactly what it is that you want or feel you need; no more and no less.
This is one reason that a faction of the freemium players are willing to spend MORE on ala carte purchases than they might on the equivalent subscription access. There is a sense of ownership and a sense of empowerment that comes from buying the parts of the game that you want and having permanent access to them as opposed to buying blanket access to the whole game, including parts you don't care about, and then losing your access entirely if you decide to terminate payments.
It's an entirely different market of customers whose motivations only moderately overlap the motivations of the dedicated subscription customer. Any discussion of freemium that doesn't address that reality is a waste of breath and time, in my opinion.
There is a group that love to go from game to game to game to game looking for content. I would like to do that personally... pay zero and play everything. Casual gamers we call them but companies need commitments. F2P now is the buzzword for my game can't stand on it's own....that's their rep now but it could change. Don't make me talk about Champions.
Either way, CoH shouldn't go F2P. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. -
I wouldn't too risky. Let someone else do it and get it right then look at and look at it again.

It may appear to be random for you and I'm okay with that. I just want to confirm it. I wonder if each Archetype has a "soul TF." My Controller sucks air in the lgtf but my Dominator(s) gets results over the top regularly in the LGTF. This can't be random. Unfortunately, all of my toons on Freedom are Dominators, except for my controller(alpha only) and MM(which I won't Alpha till later this year or next).

Quote:This spreadsheet looks nice but here are my questions. I can't monitor all of these statistics during the game. Also, every player would have to use herostat(if it can track all of this information). For the record, I'm with "random is random", but if someone wants to test a theory that the random is either weighted or influence-able, more power to them. I just felt I needed to step in and push for more meaningful data and a decent sample size.
And just so we're clear: A spreadsheet like this. Colums K-Q and S-Y are optional if hero stats does not track them, but R and Z are mandatory. Time is only necessary if you wish to prove the original claim of the thread; that the LGTF is the superior task force for shard drops. "Team levels" could be shortened to 1 column of "# of team mates eligible to receive shard drops", and it would probably be more accurate as lvl 50s don't necessarily have the alpha slot unlocked.
Next, I'm willing to take shot at this but this would be over a year and it would be 1 lgtf and 1 itf each month because so much has to be planned.
Finally, that means 24 runs over a year(12 lgtfs/12 itfs). Can you make a conclusion based on this period? -
-
Quote:I hear what your saying but if I run 10(let's say) and I get greater than 10 shards per run...It's not random. I've been doing this December and the LGTF give 10 or more to me, never fails to my character, Diva Attitude. I don't know why yet but it just does.Did you know that there are still people who believe the Earth is flat?
Edit: I'd like to be able to monitor the whole team but we don't have the tools. Pugs will never agree to this. I can barely get regularly teams together when I plan months in advance. -
I'm posting this again, I hope to run LGTF and ITF mostly this weekend to confirm.

Quote:Yeah, unless you have some actual tracked data from, say, hero stats, compiled in a spreadsheet that shows aspects you feel are influencing the RNG (team composition, Number of personal killshots* on enemy critters) combined with relevant data like total enemies killed*, Completion time. And even then, the data might not be relevent unless you track a hundred+ runs. So far with the data samples ResidentX provided, one could just as easily claim that characters who's names start with "D" get more drops on average than characters who's names start with "L".
Number of shards per run just isn't cutting it when we don't know the variables involed in each individual run. Chiefly; HOW MANY ENEMIES WERE KILLED. This can vary from run to run, and since shards drop FROM enemies, it is something we need to know. A lower than average shard count could be from a team that just waited around for the stealthers to get the hostages killed (or assasinate the horsemen). While a higher shard count could be from when the non-stealthy team members start clearing the hallways while the stealthers do their thing.
And then, if you wish to prove that the LGTF has better shard drops, you need to run, say, ITFs a similar number of times, tracking the SAME statistics.
Herostats is useful but all must use it for it to be effective, it just tracks my stats not the team/everyone else's right?
*possibly broken down into pet/minion/Lt/Boss/EB/AV/object - I'm not sure if available tracking programs can do this. I haven't messed around with this.
I like your thinking. I will try to do just than memorial day weekend. Until then I will be running the LGTF tf because I know from personal experience that it gives the most(VG merits and shards). -
Why did you say this. I plan weeks in advance. Please I want to make sure all that read the forums see this. If I wait till mid-week next week plans will already be in place for most.

Installed and login tonight. Got my best speeds yet in the ncsoft installer. About 1900 kbps.

I'm working with the tech support on this issue. Not just your card but others. We're talking about the settings inside the game. Standby. I have a 2GB video and same problems...even turned off ultramode. Trying to get ready for the surge next friday.

Quote:"I understand why you think the way you do"I'm not crazy. Seems hard for you to accept people have other priorties for enjoying this game.
I am nowhere near as single focused on maximizing time to XP/rewards as you are, to the point that you get really angry (your words) over a delay that is likley less than %0.01 of my playtime.
I consider that just strange. And your demand a long running SG to remove base decorations or you'll quit thier group boogles my mind.
I play this game in lumps not regularly. When I play...I have to be productive. This game will steal your time if you let. The times add up. If you play regularly, it may seem like nothing...
For me, the latency is becoming more and more, the SG base was another "Surprise." -
Quote:I was going to suggest you use the thumb tack option on maps to find your way back to base portal or where ever, but I dont think you have the patience.
I'm amazed you have the energy to get really angry at people who want a base that suits them, and who have invited you to share it.
Are you crazy? If your an SG leader, your base load time directly affects the satisfaction of your "team." Who wants to slow their own teams down? Cutscenes is a perfect analogy. Devs love it and think their cute, but players hate them after the first time.
I'm not angry, more like surprised. -

We'll talk after the holidays. I said I would post my lgtf runs.

Shards: 10. I would of had more but my battery ran out in the final leg just as we were attacking the honoree and his herald. Also, I had a B.S. MM on the team who didn't know how to equip his mercs and extended out time with Hamidon unnecessarily.
