    Fast Five

Did anyone see this? This movie was so fun. Way better than Thor...

I was at the Mall today and wanted to do something different.
I asked the Movie Box what the running times were for Thor, Pirates and Fast Five. Fast 5 was the longest so I choose it :-)
I usually buy once and stay in the movie the whole day but I got my money's worth so I left to eat chinese.

It was fun from the start. I'm so glad I saw it. Did anyone else like it?

    Spoilers:

    - The Rock was great. I loved seeing his team get put down and him almost facing a face plant. The scene was classic. I've been to Brazil and see the roadblocks and 360 view of the brazilians running from out of nowhere with guns firing was just awesome.

    - The vault pull was fun too. Destruction just left and right.

    - The closing with the thought the Michelle Rodriguez might still be alive made me thirsty for #6. How's Dom going to deal with that?

This was a fun summer movie. Did you see how short some of the girls skirts/daisies were at the car show? I'm glad I went to the movies today.

Claws had a made a very important point here. "Current Business Model, " Banks/financiers look at the number of subs and revenue from the the subs. This model is vital for the company. It let's them "predict" business conditions to a degree. Example, we 50,000 sub that generated x amount of revenue.

The F2P model is not fully accepted by the financiers. Turbine is making it work supposedly but going from $1 to 3 dollars don't make this viable to me(this comment is made in regards to the OP that said turbines revenues were growing). Turbine is in the best position to make this work though. Cryptic did it but they ticked off paying subs and this irritated lots of people.

Finally, CoH has challenges because unlike turbine who is doing everything new. CoH has a base of paying which complicates things. If they go F2P, I'll leave the game personally, CoH doesn't even have enough space for paying users based on lag and disconnects that seem to be regular these days.

One More comment I want to make, F2P is not free. You will pay more. Don't let the name fool you. If COH should go F2P it is because they can make more money. Which is a business priority.

"To do anything meaningful, you must pay" isn't my idea of free-to-play. Instead, they should figure out ways to integrate new players into the community, not segregate and ostracize them. I'm not saying there should be no limitations on F2P accounts, only that they should be as transparent as possible. There should be no occurrences of I-can't-get-there-itis that plagues some games.

If I'm looking for team members, ideally, there should be no discernible way for me to tell a player is a F2Per versus a paid player. What difference does it make? Today, do you discriminate who you team with among people you don't know based on who has been playing longer than someone else? If someone doesn't have at least a 3-, 6-, or 12-month badge, do you not invite them? If so, you're in a very small minority, and you don't represent the community as a whole, who I've found is usually very welcoming to new players.

If they do gate missions, it needs to be classes of missions; for example, certain task forces. If I'm a F2Per, I just don't join those task forces. If I join others that aren't gated, nobody is any the wiser. Or have the gating be on features that aren't mission-oriented. That's already being done with the release of the bonus packs; certain emotes, costume pieces, and even powers (jump jet, ninja run, etc.) are only available if you pony up $5 or $10. If someone doesn't have the self-destruct power, do I care? I don't even notice. Yet I see it enough to know that it must have sold pretty well.

I think that one of the recurring problems I'm seeing in threads like this is that people are proceeding from the invalid premise that F2Pers are second-class citizens. In fact, they need to be thought of as any other player; potential future long-time friends and contributors to the game. You can't force them to fork over their money, they need to want to do so.
If this is your feeling, then CoH in it's current form will not work. CoH2 will have to be designed to make room for F2P. This way everyone starts relatively the same and the game is designed for F2P needs. CoH now can't be leveled for F2P because the 7 year base will be angry with whatever they do but it's just not fair. We've paid all these years and now F2P comes along and I'm told thanks for paying all these year but now the content is free for everyone. This is why I never joined champions or STO.

    That's all.

Hell, personally, I've spent weeks at a time when I'd log in not to play the game but to just create stuff in bases. Because it serves as a creative outlet for me. Much as some people draw or sculpt, I create superbases.

Heck, this is not limited to City of Heroes. Take a loot at Minecraft and all the crazy stuff people build in that game.

If your SG doesn't want to change the base to suit you, you might want to find another SG.

Alternately, create another SG yourself, get a base created with the bare minimum of functionality, and see if your current SG is willing to coalition with the new SG to serve as a transit hub.

    -k

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to stifle creativity but I'm just saying for the very large SGs, you have to temper your "creativity" for the benefit of the members, right? It's plain inconsiderate to me.
You lack leadership skills truly if your just so focused on yourself.

The question is not whether it can/can't be done - it most certainly can be done - but the original question is: How?

I think there's been some amazing suggestions in this thread which gives food for thought. The likelihood of CoH going to free to play? Your guess is as good as mine, but I don't expect it any time soon.
To make CoH F2P, I think you have to make Praetorians the F2P faction.
All players start in Praetoria but at 20 the freeloaders get to stay praetorians and don't get access to the other content(cov/coh).

So it look like this at level 20.

    1. Hero
    2. Villain
    3. Praetorian(F2P), then hero or villain.

As a sub, I would be mad if the freeloaders got access to the stuff I've been paying for. This new model would allow for new lighter content(30mins- to 1 hours mishes only). Also, we create the content for them through the MA that they have to buy on a pay per play usage($1-2.00 per team member). The devs give them maybe 1 or 2 new mishes a quarter. Mishes only no tfs. They don't get access to Incarnate stuff because their casual. F2P is a trend it's not a business practice!

This would explain why sometimes I can't even change my powers...because someone else did it.

Your welcome, I posted specifically on this post because we had lengthy discussions about what a "wonder woman" series should be about. We had heated disucssions about some areas. So felt the show would get a showing and then a cancel, some felt it would never make the cut. I was in the never get a cut camp.

  21. I've been playing the LGTF this week daily. During one of my runs, we had problems with the Hami and I needed to extend the duration of my holds. I changed an alpha but I noticed I wasn't able to change any of the other slots (J, I, L, D).

Opened a trouble ticket but I referred back to the forums for this one. We have so many slots now. I thought the timers were different for each slot. My question is:

    1. What is the cooldown time? 10, 15, 20 minutes? I just can't remember.
    2. Does this timer apply to all the slots or does each one have it's own timer? We will have 10 slots shortly but if the timer applies to all of them then I need to think about whether I really need to fill out my character incarnate slots. If each slot should have it's own timer then I need to open a ticket.

The shard method required the Notice and Favor of the well which requires you to do the WST in order to create Alpha tier 3 and 4. The Notice is limited to 1 per week, which means that there is an 8 day delay to obtain a Favor in order to craft Alpha tier 4.

The trial method does not require the Notice, but requires a very rare which is 30 empyrean merits to create Alp tier 4. Empyrean merits can be earned during the trials. Basically, if an unslotted Alpha toon does a day's worth of trials, it is possible to complete Alp tier 4 in 1 day.
    Told to remove my post.
  23. I'm a fan of the dominators despite their squishness. Psionic and Psionic Assault is a rough combo until 30. This one took the longest to level.
