  1. I have a Bots/Traps that I do love, and I know the strength of traps... but that strength is AoE Centric, which Ninjas don't exactly have a name for.

The major perk is the FFG's mez resistance, but that can be duplicated with Clarion, if I don't want to take the Barrier route. Or the +Max HP route. Either or.

As for the rest of the set, mm. As I said before, +Def isn't an issue in the game anymore. While I don't think +RES is going to go leaps and bounds for the ninjas and their survivability?

To a note for Storm, with proper skill, Hurricane Walling things is a great way to keep survivability going for them. They can't be rolled over if things can't stand up, anywho.

A shame Steamy Mist has no S/L Resistance, but hey. Can't have it all.

So, hm. Storm brings with it massive -To Hit, damage dealing capabilities, +Defense, and additional +DEF and +RES due to Tornado slotting. Also a decent ST Heal, wee.

Proper Hurricane use promotes a crippling, staggering amount of -To Hit, though. And even BETTER use is "LolPermaknockdown" with Wall Shenanigans.

Mmm. I'm leaning toward /Storm, although I can't deny /Dark and /Thermal for their AoE healing and also good shenanigans.

Although I get to decide between 49% S/L Defense with Mace Mastery, or 70% S/L/E Resistance with Mu Mastery. The soft cap is probably more valuable, although the logic is "Defense Buffs So Common Anyway".

And against trash, Hurricane's 38%-odd-something To-Hit is effectively getting me capped. Hrm.

Electrifying Fences can also proc Reactive Interface, but Web Envelope's -Recharge stacks with Snow Storm...

    Decisions suck~
  2. Oh-ho-ho! Very good So that's a potential 10% from both +Defenses, and if I wanna be cute, +20% Resistance.

    Hum~
  3. Hm? What's the second portion of Storm Summoning's defense?
  4. Yeah. Topic. I hate myself a bit more now.

Regardless, I pretty much know 'the' secondary is Force Field, but I also don't like the set so much. It's a largely one-trick pony in a game where +DEF buffs are all over. Although I wouldn't be opposed to it.

I'm not /too/ worried about Stupid Mastermind Tricks via. Soloing. If I want to solo as an MM, there's honestly better primaries for it. My question is, which secondary would actually give the most survivability to ninjas? Or increase their damage output? In a game filled with AoE Defense buffs, there's less of a worry my Ninjas won't be hit by Cold or Force shields. And with most people packing Maneuvers, it's also larger. Add in a single FFG or D.Bubble, and well...

So, right. Any opinions would be superb. I'm thinking Thermal might yield the highest survivability yield at already softcaps, but Dark Miasma's arsenal of tricks is to be noted. Storm Summoning is also there... and there's also Pain, sort of?

    Hm.
  5. Boooo! Down with Freedom!

Ugh, seriously. I've sat around on that server a few times. It's a real cesspool. Even worse than Virtue's Pocket D catgirls!

You should clearly remake it on Virtue, considering the sheer number of Virtue posters here.

    Hint. Hint.

    No, really.
  6. For solo situations, I suppose Sleet means something. But as stated in other threads, a Controller or Dominator is likely going to make Sleet and associating powers lose that luster. But this is threading more into the "Dark Miasma > Cold Domination" debate.

That aside, if we're going to get into that, we can say /Kin provides a lot of damage mitigation by merit of "Instantly Melting Everything And Everyone."

For early level shenanigans, I guess the moment you get Sleet is when Cold Domination's mitigation begins to shine. Which is... 35. This is 3 levels before Fulcrum Shift, so three levels of the superior advantage. Also, at this point, you're probably no longer soloing. If you are, well, eh.

Once you hit 38, the power of Fulcrum Shift is going to provide more mitigation than Freezing Rain. Again, by merit of "Everything ever dies forever.". Although Freezing Rain has it's -Res component, but eh.

    Oh well. Sort of a wonky debate, so let's put it up as such;

Cold Domination does not provide as much build freedom as Kinetics does, in options of not having to sacrifice as many IO sets for Recharge and +% Damage.

Cold Domination has a better safer solo tools pre-soft caps.

    Both sets are valuable.

And, no. Kinetics is "Kill them before they blink", not "Kill them before they kill you." ;P Fulcrum Shift is THAT retarded.

I dont have a fire/kin and never played one, it looks like a glass cannon to me and if thats the case why not roll a blaster?

Melee toons love kins, everyone loves colds and no one realizes what dark can do everything just starts dying and we are not getting hit.

Fire/dark can dish out some serious damage with even more utility than fire/cold. I have also hear and can imagine /dark is pretty decent in pvp if thats your thing.

Some real nice utility in the /dark set that said I find the set oddly static (dark pits timer is too long and that seems to be the core of your damage increase) . It feels like traps to me, I can kick *** were ever I setup but once I get out of my little area my advantage goes away. Cold suprisingly enough does not feel this way with infrigidate, benumb, snowstorm. Sleet is on such a fast timer you always have that juicy -res available.

What makes Cold less off a "Glass Cannon" than Kin? Artic Fog? No... no. No no no.

Kin having probably the best heal in the game makes it a bit more durable than Cold. Both sets are, with out a doubt, great. But Kin goes a far, far, FAR way more into increasing self and team damage than Cold can help to attempt on a constant basis. Cold has better survivability tools for the team, unless soft caps are hit. This is primarily why I prefer huge heals or resistance buffs; defense is way too easy to hit now a-days.

At the end of the day, Buffs can't be resisted. Debuffs can, and generally are.

Specifically for Fire, Kin likely wins. Because Kin gives you a big reason to ignore Fire Breath's terrible, terrible self.
  8. As the topic asks. I'm trying to figure out if Pistols ends up beating the other three out with I.Ammo considered. Since DW/ES/PR have such horrible DPA, and Pistols has a decent bit superior.

I'm a Defender, as an aside, but you all actually care about numbers ;P
  9. Short Boots, Paragon. Give us Short Boots.

    You know what I mean.

Make it happen! Reppu needs short boots.
  10. Happily buying it. The people who are complaining that we should get it for free... can look ugly?

Maybe we should get it free, but I don't care. Already have the order ready.
  11. Baron Coat and Boots for female models.

    That is all.

Heck, I'd even buy the Magic Super Booster again simply for this option.

I'd even settle /just for the Baron Boots/.

Make it happen, Paragon. It's literally free money! 'cept with some work.
  12. We will always remember you, Null the Gull.

    From May 1st, 2011 to May 2nd, 2011.

Be free and happy in the wild, Null.

    Be free and happy.
  13. I see! Well thanks for the info, Silas. Insightful as always~!
  14. That makes a lot of sense, when put that way. Do you think any of the Tanker sets are well designed, then?

I happen to think Dark Armor is amazing, but I can't seem to find that 'sweet spot' in any build I put together that makes me want to GOOOOO for it! That, and being so rarely seen, I like being 'exotic'~!
  15. Well of course you'd think so, Silas! You bash it all the time in your guides!

Shame, too. I kind of like the crystal armor shtick... too bad Stone Armor is such a terrible set with out Granite Form.
  16. Title topic. That's all. Is it thematic? Is Rooted superior to all other forms of mez protection to the point it needs this debuff? Must you take Teleport or have a Pocket Kin to not want to smash your head into a wall? Must it de-toggle Combat Jumping and Hover? ( Unless it doesn't anymore. Been a long time. )

What is the true reason that Rooted cripples your movement capabilities? is 100% unslotted regen that overpowered?

I want to know what is so game-breaking about Rooted that you need to move at a pace so slow that even the Tortoise would feel sorry for you.
  17. "Buffing" MM's is sort of an odd topic in itself. They're good at what they do, but you need to stop and really look at the Mastermind to figure out that something may be wrong.

The primary issue is that pets don't scale. Once you hit 32, you've peaked. This is a bit of an issue itself.

The fact that pets don't benefit from IO's is also an issue, granted the game isn't balanced around it, doesn't mean Masterminds should be left out in the cold.

The lack of pets having proper attack chains is also ludicrous, and is the primary reason why a lot of the 'ranged' pets go right into melee. Recharge times need to be reduced, really.

Additionally, animation times have their own share of issues. There are an overwhelming number of huge animation time abilities, and we know why it exists - so cooldowns can be higher. Both need to be reduced.

Why? Because let's face it. When you get down to really gearing it up, there's three more AT's that can do what Masterminds do - Support and Damage. They, however, do it better.

A Mastermind may be better at soloing stupid crap (Sans Illu/Rad Controllers and the like), but people who view "HOW GOOD I SOLO AV IS HOW OP MY AT IS" need a slap to a face.

Masterminds do generally under perform. And with the pets being so, let's face it, not-fun to play with due to their random little issues? We really could use some looking at.

I don't know about the rest of you, but balance =/= play Thugs or Robotics. Because both sets also have their TIMMY! moments.

Masterminds need to be looked at. Stop saying they don't.

  19. I ran Lambda before the servers went down Tuesday morning. I did something I have a habit of doing; Protesting Praetor White when he jumps down and does his cutscene, blocking him from view with my pets and myself doing /em ProtestLoyalist.

Afterward, I noticed I misplaced my 15 odd something trip mines, and ran back to train him into them. As a result, he went running out right of Lambda and caused a fail.

The reaction from the full 16 man attempt? About 6 or so people heavy-raged, while everyone else was still laughing over the protest.

The leader, who commonly runs Lambda and B.A.F. on Virtue, @Dysc, promptly told the ragers to shut the hell up and stop raging over a game. One of those so-called 'elitist' promptly told everyone who was raging to shove it, while laughing his own head off at the scenario.

I did apologize for it, as it was an accident, but I was happy to know the majority of that Lambda attempt laughed it off and had a good time, and the vocal minority either got over it and joined in the laughter, or realized how stupid they were acting.

You know what would have been the result of that if I had done that on the industry leader? At least five guilds blacklisting me, and a whole lot of server rep tanking.

SURE AM GLAD WE CAN COMPARE CITY OF HEROES TO THAT GAME! DD

    Baka.
  20. Okay! So, more builds from me~! I like Dark Armor, and it seems to be an appealing build, despite all the hate it gets.

As for Kinetic Melee? It's just visually appealing and seems to fit the bill, but if someone has a better idea, but all means~!

Ultimately, this is pretty much the best I could do. Skipping Concentrated Strike was "eh", but I needed Focused Burst to have an actual attack chain :<

But, yeah. Thoughts/Comments/Advice. Any possible way to slot the toggles a bit more for endurance purposes would be nice, or whatever.

    Weee~!

  21. Interesting, but not being considered. Due to the fact that Corruptors have Fire Blast, I can't see myself using any other set. Fire Blast is just way too overpowered.

Additionally, I also don't like the build too much. The recharge levels aren't high enough for how I personally play Traps, but it's a "To Each His/Her Own" statement.
  22. I've got better toons built for soloing. While this Defender /could/ solo, I wouldn't have bosses on anyway for that. Bosses are inefficient.

And yeah, I don't view Piercing Rounds as an AoE. It's a single target that just so happens to be able to AoE.
  23. I can see Blasters or Corruptors not using Piercing Rounds... but for Defenders have it at -20% Resistance. We're not here for damage, we're here for debuffs and buffs.

The 2.5oddsecond cast time is a non-factor due to the fact that using it effectively increases your team's, or Leagues, damage significantly. THAT is why I am taking Piercing Rounds.

As for Suppressive Fire's uses, yes, that is true... but between Caltrops, Poison Trap, Seeker Drones, and such things... and the fact I will never have to solo, it's not a /big/ deal. But it's something to note, thanks.
  24. I am exceeding the 2.5%, I agree. However, the overlaying problem is I didn't /care/ about the recovery so much as the much more valuable recharge bonus. There's nothing I can do about it, and breaking the Rule of 5 for the sake of Recharge is worthwhile. But, I do see where I can fix that issue, so thanks for bringing it to my attention again.

Charged Armor is simply too good to drop. A huge amount of resistance to three of the most common damage types in the game, especially in Incarnate Content, is /far/ too good to skip. Which is why it took it's priority.

Conserve Power... I flatly do not like. It's a lackluster power overall. The recharge is ludicrous for what it does.

Power Sink I /can/ agree with. I can get it down to about 31 seconds, which is pretty lovely. If I don't go from 100-0 within 31 seconds, I think it may be worth considering over Suppressive Fire, anyway.

I might take a Heel Proc in Empty Clips, as suggested. It's simply there to get 'ensured' procs, but having the proc in Bullet Rain may be enough. As well, since it doesn't stack, and Acid Mortar is slotted with it, it's something to note.

As for Acid Mortar and the Hold Proc, well. That's an interesting idea. I'd need to double check Acid Mortar's AoE radius to see if it's overall /worth/ it, but I might do that.

    Overall, thanks for the advice.
