With as underperforming as Beast Mastery has proven to be, the ONE reason I may have purchased it was because Double XP weekend would make it's horrible and unbearable low-level play massively avoidable.
Well, I can definitely keep 800 points for a set that currently does not have any time to have it's performance flaws fixed, because Masterminds are a minority!
Masterminds: We haven't learned anything since Issue 6! -
Quote:If 10-20% Critical Hit( and Damage) chance means so much to damage, why did Stalkers need a buff, and why are Scrappers not the KINGS OF EVERYTHING EVER?Two questions: did you play one to at least level 26? and did you take, and spam, your primary attacks?
I ask this because once you get all 6 pets out, and spam your primary attacks, they start spending most of their time with 6-10 stacks of Pack Mentality, which does pretty remarkable things to their +crit chance. Once I got to that point, mobs were disintegrating as fast as they were for my same-level demon summoner.
I also ask this because the "no ranged attacks" thing starts to matter a lot less once you start hitting mobs with -fly and -spd debuffs, which the mastermind primary attacks have.
With robotics, ninja summoning, thugs, and mercs, the mastermind primary attacks are things you take very, very late if at all. For demons, you take the first primary attack early, maybe, for the ranged pull and the lovely debuff, and probably skip the rest. Beast Mastery is designed to all-but require you to take all 9 powers to get the full benefit out of it.
Again, it will probably be a "your mileage may vary" thing, but math doesn't lie. I never noticed it. Maybe I did something wrong. But, math doesn't lie.
Also, willing to bet against a BM/X beating a DS/X, same secondaries, in killspeed. Demons sheer -RES stacking + Exotic Typing + AoE makes me question this and I would love some testing.
Claiming is one thing, proving is another. -
Quote:Simple The average DPA of each attack varies between 'equal to ranged pets', 'below ranged pets', or 'slightly above ranged pets'. Add in the the critical hit chance, and it's a bit higher in each respect. Beyond that, if you're lucky, your beasts will have 15 seconds, out of 60 seconds, of steroided damage (+100% or so odd damage, but with their base damage this is a deceptive number. Don't be fooled.)Wow....Beast damage is that poor? Hyperbole aside, please describe this further?
They are capable of 'impressive for a mastermind pet' burst damage. Now, this may seem good on paper, but again; pets have horrible base damage, 100% or so bonus damage is NOT that much on them, but it is good! However, you have to fact in the following.
1) Almost no AoE
2) Literally no ranged.
3) Did I mention they have BARELY ANY ATTACKS?
You may be asking about that third one. Let me explain.
Wolves and Lions: A single attack with out an upgrade. Gain a single second attack with the first upgrade. Gain a single third attack at the second upgrade.
These attacks? 3/6/9 cooldowns. This means, after the first attack rotation, your pets will now be having 'dead period' of 2-3 seconds for the rest of combat. Do you know how many other Mastermind pets have this issue?
The Protector Bots by design, and the Ember Demon, because the Hellfire Demon MORE than makes up for this.
Which Beast Mastery pets make up for this? NONE. They ALL have this flaw. But it gets worse.
The Alpha Wolf, the unique third Wolf pet for the first summon? TWO. ATTACKS. 3/6 cooldown.
The Dire Wolf? 3/6/14/14/60.
So, in retrospective?
You have barely any AoE.
You have literally no ranged.
If your pet AI is smart, your pets will have 100% odd something bonus damage for 15 seconds roughly every minute... but half of that time is wasted because they have so few attacks and the cooldowns are horrible.
Outside of those 15 seconds, you're doing even LESS damage, your pets are idling with their tails up their ***** because of their poor attack numbers, and your Boss Pet is the second most guilty of standing there with his tail up his *** (the Alpha Wolf being the biggest sinner).
So, yeah. They didn't learn anything. 3 attacks maximum on four of your pets. Two attacks on one of them and it's not even worth the trade of (It gets a lame heal in exchange, which the Lionesses do better), and the Dire Wolf? A damn joke. -
I'm going to flatly say nobody should play this set. And I know I'm going to be attacked for this, but I have a valid reason for it; Synapse is aware of the set's issues, but there is (EMPHASIS)currently(EMPHASIS) no time to fix them at the moment.
This means, you're going to pay for an incomplete product that has not been fully addressed, but with acknowledged problems. While some people will be okay with this, and in the end it's your money, I do not like the idea that the fact Mastermind's are a minority means Beast Mastery doesn't need further attention.
If you absolutely must play this set, something that amplifies your damage is probably going to go a LOT further than anything that keeps your Beasts alive. Because your Beasts are arguably garbage useless pieces of data because their individual damage is worse than a Controller spamming Boxing.
And before someone tells me to shove it?
Quote:PMs are a good thing.Originally Posted by SynapseI'll look into this Reppu. I understand your concerns and I feel they are valid. It's just a matter of being able to have time to make such changes right now.
Synapse
TL;DR - I STRESS you NOT to pay for this set until time is made for it to have it's flaws addressed. I stress this to EVERYONE. Concept and 'fun' are one thing, but when it has acknowledged flaws, they need to have time made to address them. That should be the point of beta, and never just minimalistic 'can we shove it out the door now? :3' efforts. -
Quote:For dealing damage, it is. And that's all I have to say on it.I think it is just the way you put it that has folks bothered. Instead of describing someone else's opinion as "bad advice" when many others hold the same opinion, why not simply state that you "feel strongly" that taking the single target Immob is important? Describing someone else's opinion in such authoritative tones is just asking for a flame war.
To discount my opinion and that of many others when you don't know the level of my experience comes off as a bit arrogant. Yes, I wrote an Illusion/Rad guide that is pretty popular. But I also wrote an Earth/Rad guide which was for a team-focused controller. I've taken two Plant, two Earth, an Ice, three Fire and an Elec controllers up to 50 and a few beyond that. Only about 4 of them took the single target Immob. So I think I have enough experiece to disagree with your assertion that skipping the single target immob is "bad advice." -
Quote:I fully support 'to each his own', but when I feel something is bad advice, I will point it out.In my original post, first please notice that I said what "I" would be doing. If you want to do something different, that's your choice. I acknowledged that the single target Immob is a good damage power. But leveling up on a team-focused controller, I find that there are plenty of things to do rather than focus on single target damage. My damage-focused teammates can usually do damage much faster than I can.
No offense, but I have played lots and lots of controllers, and I've generally been pretty effective at it. Many of them skip the single target Immob. Your "my way or the highway" attitude fails to take into account varying playstyles.
Also, you largely play Illusions, don't you? No Immobilize to take. But, that's not the point at all.
This is an opinionated thread, and nobody should stress an absolute. As I stressed too, it's like my opinion. Thusly "I think" was in most of my posts. -
Quote:AT's exist in game. That's pretty much a given. They're referenced in game. Thusly, their descriptions must, too!Where do you get this from?
I don't think there's any lore linking archetypes to power sources or origins. I'm dubious that the idea of archetypes even exist in the game world?
DOMINATORS ARE SPESHUL. -
Could we get a confirm on what this will be reduced to? 2.0? 1.5? 1.2 like the normal would not be worth buying but /shrug.
I might be interested in these if we got a confirm on their reduction. -
Assuming I was singling you out... why? I'll make sure to note "By the way, thank you ketch for agreeing". Sorry.
-
Except not all AV's have regen levels that NEED to be crashed. To say they do is false. Also, the logic of 'you're doing enough just with Howling Twilight/Twilight Grasp's -Regen' is FLAWED logic! You can do MORE if you're also throwing in damage when nobody needs a heel, Howling Twilight is on cooldown, etc etc.
If you all can tell me one legitimate reason that, when you're not applying one of your debuffs, that you CAN'T be dealing damage? Let me know. Please. I'm obviously playing Controllers wrong if I'm adding in to dealing damage on Bosses/EBs/AV's when my controls are in place/debuffs are used or are on cooldown.
Because I seem to be under the dumb opinion that the ultimate debuff is KILLING SOMETHING DEAD. -
Engulfing Darkness is a Foot Stomp clone in everything but damage type and control effect. You bet your *** it's amazing.
Unlike Combustion, which is just bland and bad. -
Quote:So... Trick Arrow/Poison/Traps?Poison bombs, gas bombs, flash bombs...
Yeah because bombs can only go boooom
I like the concept. If you played Rift, there war a Rogue Set, the Saboteur, which was really fun
There's also a strict Lore thing about Dominators being pretty specifically supernaturally empowered, but I guess if they want they can give them "Bomb Control" and "Bomb Assault". Although "Bomb" specifically is the wrong way to do look at it. -
Quote:What are you doing on an AV besides dealing damage when Purple Triangles are up? If you skipped the ST Immobilize, you have to use the AoE Immobilize. Yeah. Have fun with endurance cost and really poor damage you HAVE to use everytime it's off cooldown.I dont. I dont like people who think their opinion is the only one valid. I agree that ST inmob is a good source of ST damage. ST damage should not be a controller focus. You have a lot of good other stuff. Skipping AoE inmob/stun/hold in order to get the ST inmob? Not in any of my trollers. The portions of the game where the ST inmob is more useful than any other power are minimal
There is NO logical reason to ever skip the ST Immobilizes on an >Controller<. Dominator sure. Controller inexcusable.
There is no power I can see from Aux Pools or the like that would outweigh the benefits of the ST Immobilize. Because being able to ST Immobilize > Hold > APP/PPP Blast > Repeat is how you're contributing against a big, bulky, impossible to hold target.
Unless you have an extremely busy secondary (Hint: None are that busy), you have NO reason not to be dealing as much damage as possible. You hit Fearsome Stare, you hit your AoE immobilize, you use HEart of Darkness if you really want? Then you blast the singles down and mix in your AoE immobilize/patron/power AoEs for flavour.
You are always dealing damage and you always should unless a priority sparks.
Do not skip the ST Immobilize for anything BUT the AoE Immobilize if you HAVE to drop THAT many powers. And you honestly shouldn't need to.
Between dropping Shadow Field ( You don't need it you have Fearsome Stare and Heart of Darkness), Soul Absorption for now, Fade for now, and Black Hole? You have plenty of room to weasel around. -
I'd argue it's the best Dominator Assault set now. Even rivaling Fire Assault in Raw Damage with superior AoE. Granted Fire Assault has Blaze OP, Dark Assault isn't that far behind.
Really? It probably is the best Dominator Assault set, definitely boasting great AoE, great single target, -ToHit is a good defensive mechanic, the self heal is just icing on the cake of a good damage power.
This set has no flaws, and many strengths. -
Quote:Bolded is really bad advice. If you've already got your Debuff on (Darkest Night) in this case, what the heck else are you doing but damage? if you're not doing anything after doing your debuffing (since you're not holding AV's for long when you CAN hold them), you're pretty worthless.I don't plan to skip anything other than Black Hole and the single target Immob. The single target Immob can be used as a damage power, but if you plan to mostly team, it is skippable.
I would not skip the AoE Immob. Darkest Night + AoE Immob is almost like an AoE hold, since the foes can't move and can't hit you.
I also would not skip the AoE stun, since the stun will stack with the stun in Howling Twilight. A mag 3 stun (with a 20% chance to add an extra mag) can stack with a Mag 2 Stun to get bosses.
Dark/Dark seems to have a lot of powers that will combine to provide an overall effective control. Just remember that while a power by itself may be unimpressive, it can be more effective in combination with other powers. I plan on trying everthing other than Black Hole. (I've tried Black Hole on both my Dark/Elec Defender and my Thugs/Dark MM, hated it both times.)
I REALLY expected better advice from Local_Man of all people. You have absolutely no reason to skip the ST Immobilize. You should be dealing damage whenever you have the chance to. This is that same logic Defenders use to abide by when they thought they could skip attacks as long as they teamed >_>
You should always...
1) Slot your Immobilize for Damage
2) Slot your Hold for Damage. You can easily throw in two +DMG 50 IO's to give it decent damage and still put 4 Hold IO sets into it for Acc/Rech/Hold if you're paranoid about duration.
3) Slot your AoE Immobilize for Damage.
4) Take some damage from your A/PPP for the love of god why wouldn't you?
5) Don't be a dead weight derp.
Controllers do deceptively good damage. If you skip the ST Immobilize, you have to either fire off 2 holds on a Boss, 2 AoE Immobilizes, or spam the AoE immobilize on a single target AV. NONE of these are good alternatives. Also, the ST Immobilize tends to be a Controllers best attack outside of A/PPP attacks.
Do not be one of those controllers who trolls enemy groups and is a dead weight crappy Defender on AVs/Trials. Do damage or go play something else. -
Yeah. No. Don't skip the ST Immobilize. That's your opener to not be useless on Bosses/AV's.
The AoE Immobilize can be respecced out of later if you NEED an open slot.
The AoE Hold in Dark Control is skippable garbage.
Haunt is alright. Depends on your secondary.
I wouldn't skip anything else in Darkness Control.
As for Darkness Affinity? Fade is garbage right now until it's update. Soul Absorption is garbage until it's update. Black Hole is garbage period.
When Fade and Soul Absorption are updated, Fade is a great power and Soul Absorption is possibly skippable but it's serviceable.
So, TL;DR - Skip Black Hole and Shadow Field or whatever the AoE Hold is, because it sucks.
You may choose to drop the AoE Immobilize (Because Heart of Darkness sets up your AoE Containment anyway), or keep it for AoE Damage. I'd keep it, really.
You can drop Haunt if your secondary isn't heavy debuffing or damage buffing, as Haunt is pretty lackluster but it has a bit of a purpose on Controllers for doing SOME damage. -
Doing Fearsome Stare into Heart of Darkness is hardly a big deal, though. Short enough cooldowns and yeah.
Honestly I doubt Darkness Control was the 'special dominator' thing. More like Darkness Assault, which is an AMAZING set.
Darkness Control? Shrug. It's good because it has both Fearsome Stare and a PBAoE Flash Fire. The rest of the set is largely forgettable although the Umbral Beast is nice. Like with most Control Sets for Dominators, the pets are just 'there'.
Haunt is likely skippable on Doms and probably ho-hum on Controllers although their buffs and debuffs and lack of self-damage likely makes them a lot more appealing. That all said? You shouldn't go into Darkness Control for the -ToHit, but the fact you get Fearsome Stare and Heart of Darkness. Everything else is simply nice.
Then you ask yourself why you didn't roll Plant Control? -
If you're going PermaDom, it's good because you'll likely have PermaHaunt then. All that said, it's... pretty much just good for extra damage on AV's. I said on Beta that this power was pretty lackluster as it was, with slow damage, a fear you don't really need ( I guess it can fear bosses ho hum), and they're a little spazzy. BUT, people said I was wrong and it was awesome, mostly.
...
/shrug.
Keep it for AV's, I guess. But otherwise it's just Gun Drone, but ghosts. -
... How would you explain Bomb Control? Bombs are, generally, one of the most neutrally destructive weapons in the world. Unless you mean like... Trick Bombs. But even then you're threading more on Blast Sets, not Control Sets.
... and how are Devices an Assault Secondary? You DO realize you posted on the Dominator forum, right?
Or I guess you poorly wrote your title and you meant "We need Bomb Assault!" -
-
Disappointed right now. The major issue with Imperial Dynasty w/ Skin not being usable with Coats/Skirts/Robes/BolerosMostImportantly was not addressed as promised. We pointed this issue out on beta weeks ago, Paragon.
-
How will you handle 'adding' the 'missing' Imperial Dynasty pieces for those of us who bought the pack immediately? Do we already have the 'missing' pieces but they aren't selectable? I'm just concerned we'll have to pay for what is missing since we bought it early, since I'm unsure how you plan to 'give' those pieces to people who bought the set, unless you can identify who owns it.
TL;DR - If I have to pay extra to own everything that your front page advertised comes with the set because I wanted to support it ASAP and didn't wait for i22, I'll punch a catgirl with a baseball bat. -
We will NEVER speak of this event. Ever again.

Disagree that this was a 'nerf'. It was an exploit, although a minor one in some cases (although ludicrous in others AKA boosting Defense Debuff Resistance).
Disagree that the only power in the game with an "Accurate Resistance Power" needs it's own "Enhancement". Just... slot Eclipse with Accuracy, Recharge, and Resistance. If it happens, cool... but it's the only power in the game with these qualifications. It's probably a waste of effort to put in a whole new HamiO that people might be really pissed if they get, since it's so niche.
Fixing an exploit is always a good thing. Just five-slot Eclipse with two Resistance/Recharge IO's, a Recharge IO, a Resistance IO, and an Accuracy IO. Worried about the 'lack of accuracy'? Enhancement booster it (WHILE SUPPORTING THE PARAGON MARKET WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE) or rely on your +Set Accuracy Bonuses.
I see no problems here. Exploit is fixed, all is well.
PS: Told you I'd post here. Didn't laugh, though.
PSS: You and everyone else should just be lucky Paragon didn't curb-stomp ban you all for breaching ToS. That should be your reward IMO.
