  2. What tends to bug me most about fighting in PvP Zones, and Arenas for that matter, is that I tend to play scrappers, which means I'm stuck with trying to catch up to highly maneuverable targets which can usually hit me with everything they have while I can't get near enough to touch them.

Now, logically, travel supression is one way of limiting this, but it seems that few people like that, so how about something different?

How about if whenever a ranged attacker loses line of sight on a target, they also lose their target lock? To be fair, it would have to apply to melee attackers too, obviously, but the point is that they would need to reaquire that lock to attack again, giving those with short range attacks a chance to close in.

Stuffing this here, since I'm interested to know whether you expert PvP types think it would be better/make any difference.
  3. I'd love to know how they could apply that to Zonal PvP.

And, as a critiscism here, you *do* tend to simply snap peoples heads off with suggestions that are 'impossible'.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And you do make judgements without reading the thread, Techie. Try reading the first reply I gave him. I suggested a compromise which I thought would satisfy the OP and everyone else. Instead, I got told I didn't understand what he was talking about, I got told what I could and couldn't say, and then I got told to chill out when agreeing with him.

So pardon me if I'm getting fed up of you defending people against me. You're not perfect either.

    Merry Christmas.

As too do i love the idea of a badass Red Riding Hood. Hip hop beats and werewolf slaying ftw!

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's a Todd Macfarlane comic (I think) featuring mad, psycho, werewolf slaying Red, and there was also my first ever LARP Campaign event in which various fairy tale creatures were coming to life. Red was out slaying a friendly pack of werewolves. I missed her, but it was apparently quite an outfit.

And speaking of that event... Miss Muffet

Now, at that event, Miss Muffet was a victim of the spider. She was strung up on a web in the spider's lair (the girl was physically attached to a wall a couple of feet off the ground) having had spider eggs laid in her belly, which then proceeded to hatch (complete with spewing out fake entrails). The (fully physrepped, mobile and articulated) spider was the size of a small car, immune to magic, spat paralysing poison... you get the picture. We sent in the super-heavies and they eventually minced it.

So, how about having to save Miss Muffet from the lab where Arachnos have taken her to be transformed into a Tarantula Mistress (or similar). Run the mission against the clock. Get through the guards fast enough, and you get to escourt her out again. Do it too slow and you get to face off against Killer Muffet, the Tarantual Mistress EB (or something).

Here's an idea... Come i14, MAKE THESE!

    [/ QUOTE ]

The one problem with that is that I have my sneaking suspicions that I won't be able to, and I just know that I won't be able to get a custom designed Red Riding Hood model built and inserted into the game.
  7. Red Riding Hood

Well, these days, this would traditionally be a high-level mission where a group of friendly Werewolves have asked for help from Portal Corps to halt the depredations of the Red Rider in the Hood, who is obviously a seven foot chick in thigh boots carrying a steaming great "Axe of Werewolf Slaying."

Twisted Fairy Tales have a lot to answer for.

    ---

That said, I do have this urge for a hip-hop mission of some sort where you're asked to escourt young Red on her ride through da Hood. But that may be too corny.

    ---

    Oh! Oh!

    The Little Mermaid

    becomes The Little Corralax

Evil/Mad scientists have transformed a Corralax into a human woman, and she needs you to gather the equipment to turn her back, assemble it, spring her from her spurned lover's prison, and zap her back into being a scaly, horrible mess.

    OR...

A corralax engages a group of villains to build a machine which will transform her into a human, so she can go spy on the land dwellers.

Most people I know in retail won't finish until 9pm Christmas Eve, no different to another working day. The shops may shut for business late afternoon, but there's still an awful lot of work to be done "behind the scenes". Where do you think the magic Boxing Day sales come from?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Out of interest, FG, are you taking what was meant as some sarcasm by someone (not me) as a grave insult to all shop workers? Or some indication that all shops shut early? Or some desire to intimate that everyone has it worse than retail workers?

I have to admit that I don't understand why you're insisting on pressing this, and would only like to point out that, as a non-retail worker, I have been sat in an office on Christmas Eve until some stupid time at night trying to get code out the door I had no hope of succeeding with, so I don't need the lecture.

    Merry Christmas.

Only if you work very late.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, yes. Stores close at what time on Christmas Eve? I know mine shuts at 4pm, but the people who work in it will be there until at least 6pm, if not longer to get ready for Boxing Day. Anything after 4pm must be considered "very late", then.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not all stores. Bet you my local Tesco petrol station thingy will be open later than that. A loaf of bread may not be much of a present, but at least it's something.

One thing that did concern me though was at 12.30 Sunday afternoon, I did a search for heroes between lvls 31 and 45 on Union and got a list of 50. That list wasn't truncated.

12:30 on Sunday afternoon, the last Sunday before Christmas. The last day a LOT of people have to get Christmas shopping done. Riiiiight...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pfft.. Christmas Eve is the last day you get your last minute shopping done. Any earlier just isn't trying hard enough

    That depends on work commitments.

i can not really see if we get more or go down in servers, that the game in trouble. as long as it don't say game is closing here your refund i be happy. But i got more important things to worry about then you a server close or opens up

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't understand that, but I think you cannot understand why people think a game is in trouble if there is a server merge.

Well, whether you can understand it or not does not matter. When a game reduces its server count, it is perceived as meaning that the game cannot sustain its population. Even if the game does not fail, it stops gaining new customers, it gets bad publicity, it loses even more customers, and it does not grow.

The first people to leave are usually the ones who demanded that the servers be merged because they still can't find teams on their new, merged server.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it's any consolation, you won't be 'that guy' you'll be one of a fairly long list of guys who can't handle criticism.

Basically, if you want to argue, present valid arguments rather than saying "don't argue with me, I'm right, you suck."

I used to work on the 13th floor of an office block in Manchester. I don't think I can remember ever seeing a haze free view from the window.

PRAF, mate, they never cleaned your windows. I used to do a load of work on the roof tops around Manchester, and the view out over Stockport toward the Penine foothills was one of the few pleasant things involved in the job.

    Don't be so miserable

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's some delightful statistic about more people comitting suicide at this time of year than any other. They run special phone lines because people are miserable.

Anyone who doesn't recognise that Christmas is not a universal time of happiness and goodwill doesn't actually know what 'the spirit of Christmas' is, but then I've long thought you were just a well-dressed troll, GG.

Merry Christmas to those who are likely to have one. Hope life treats you better next year to those who won't. Sure hope life treats me better next year than it has this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Let's see. I wouldn't be in that list because the character I spent almost all day Sunday on is a 50, but also because I'm rarely in game by 12.30 on a Sunday. I'm not usually awake enough to work a keyboard at 12.30 on a Sunday. A lot of people get up late on Sundays... or have to go out shopping, like FFM said.
  20. It's windy, gusts to 40mph, and cold, high of -3C, but little chance of rain or snow. Skies will clear tonight, with the wind dropping, which is good, because with a low of -11C, we are looking at serious frostbite territory.

Tomorrow, brighter, and warmer, but I doubt you'll notice.
  21. Yes, you certainly do sound arrogant.

I think I'd be better off leaving you to it. So I shall.
  22. That's my point, GG. Make the maximum distance available exceed the size of a typical Zone and the OP gets want he wants without crippling the performance for everyone.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Seriously. Get rid of it. Distance culling is not acceptable for a modern game based in a city. Grand Theft Auto 4 only gets away with it because modern consoles have 512MB of RAM, total. That's the minimum spec to play this game, and that excludes the 128MB and above that a graphics card has, plus whatever is on the hard drive for paging.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's really simplifying things a huge amount and making darn sure the game won't run on anything but a very high spec machine.

Distance culling has to happen at some point, or you need an infinitely sized map. It's a valuable tool for reducing memory usage on lower spec clients.

As such, the best option is probably to increase the maximum draw distance to larger than the size of most zones and leave things as they are, with the fog you don't like. Then you and those with mega-rigs can turn it up all the way, if they want.
  24. Apart from any of the perfectly good reasons for not merging servers, at this point I am against doing so because people are constantly asking for it.
  25. The slider thing would be a major change to the user interface. So, no.

Rent does have something of a point, really. The skill of a Buffer lies in making sure they are applying required buffs to everyone at the right times. Assuming it is viable to do that, then extending the duration is just there to make unskilled Buffers' lives easier.
