I have been crying those same tears since i13, to be honest a melee toon can rival a doms or trollers holds and do more damage in the process, sad but true. You don't even need breakfree's, this aspect of pvp is laughable, well all of it is atm but this more so to me. All the carebares who cried about holds were to lazy to just carry and manage breakfree's. Castle viewed holds as a overal problem instead of a few isolated tears, the biggest joke is alot of the carebears that put us here don't even pvp now, and second is alot of them actually used mezzers and are now crying with us to get things back, becareful what you wish for when crying. But anyway kb is king now and mind doms with their op'd levetate force you to take like 40kb protect or better builds to keep the levetate spam to a minimum. the are fatal in sirens and with stalker support fatal in rv, one good levitate and you wont get up, all you'll see is AS over your toon and the option to hospital or go to base.

And forced to take aidself, the only thing about fire is it WILL cost you. Most notably KB io's and you still will need acro because levetate is crazy strong in rv, my first build had like 35kb protection and some doms still threw me down. The new build i have that includes the new pvp resist set has about 47kb protection. But it's extremely expensive to say the least, also those 3 hp accolades are a must.
But anyway, that's just my two cents every invul i see is waiting on unstop, and out of action alot. -
I basically want to pvp like it was, where my powers and mez works like it does in pve, i like breakfree's. I havent used one in months, i don't agree with mez resist at all, right now on my melee toon i can consistantly pound doms and trollers quite easily and never having to click a single breakfree. This change castle made changed the strategy of those fights all together. Before you had to speed rush the mezzer, and hopefully keep them off ballanced enough, and pressured to score wins before they get their bearing and or run you out of breakfree's. Your inspiration tray was like a mini game planning load outs for different encounters, it took actual thought. That's what we miss castle, having to think sometimes, now i just carry blues and greens ten each and most duels i'm still well stocked at the end. I actually take my time during those fights now and try to run them out of greens.
I like mez suppression, as it's cheap to just perma hold someone indefinately, unless they don't have breakfree's, or a buffer but having to stack mag actually mad sense. Now the support toons that come to zones dont even run support powers, thanks to this pvp. Had a cold on my team today and a thermal and they both had all solo offensive powers, save a few forced thermal choices like the aoe heal and the shield. It's not like the mezzer could just run up press one button and you were held, YOU CAN NOW!! lol You figure if you took 3 BF's and had a shield that would give you roughly 40mez protection. It would take a dom under domination 4-5 attacks to crack through that, and a troller 8-9.
Now during this time span you could be launching your assault, and properly done, and a little luck, victory could be in site. That was a melee scenario, every toon had a toon it didn't fair well against, and trying to universally diversify all classes like a FPS was a bad move. This ain't halo, if i wanted to play CoD4 or Halo i would fire up the box. Rock, paper, sissors made more sense. Valentino Rossi's Yamaha M1, will beat Jeff Gordans nascar easy, but Mario Andretti's Formula 1 will beat Valentino around the track, yet if you go around the track too much Jeffs carr will walk them down when their fuel is gone and win.
Such a simplistic yet effective formula we had, and hopefully we can get it again atleast in the arena. -

But city of nerfs is how it is now, i was devastated when em lost it's flow, than i lost all my defense toons. So nothing really phases me anymore, maybe he will make us all use brawl and be done with it, he'd probably nerf brawl before to long. -

I dont have an elec/dark as I've stated I have a rad/dark, so I will speculate on why it should be viable.
Powerboost + short circuit/tesla cage should be good keeping toons to low end/recovery.
1. i wouldn't waste my time with tar patch.
2. PB ToF > DK Toggle. I seldom use DK.
3. I wouldnt take two holds. My rad/dark uses 0 holds. But in the case of elec you'll need one, TC.
4. I went PB, i have no hiber and I have tactics. Heals for 680+ not even fully slotted for heals. Hibernate would be redundant. Phase a waste.
5. Yes you are totally off as I wouldnt recommend taking anything but fitness, speed,leaping and leadership.
Reading your post, i'm not sure who you are referencing, since i made the comment about elec/dark being viable to an extent but i don't have one, but the other guy had the elec/dark, and he didnt say he could beat psi/em's. i did with a rad/dark. and yes im on freedom.
But as far as that combo imo, elec/ dark i havent seen a viable one in action, and i can't really picture it working in this new pvp. DR and the other things makes it so nothing works like it should, elec/ had it's problems before i13, and that was before every soft target could pump up to 48% resist to all or better. I still don't see why castle did that but meh, elec has like one or two damaging attacks the first two iirc, so that means you have to try and fight using attrittion. With elec only id only bring 5 or so blues to that fight, SC is a pbaoe so merely staying mobile makes that hard to pull off i just don't see it. Maybe i'm missing something though? meh. -

I'm adament about this topic, because castle herded us into this, i hope by mistake but it is what it is. a well built squishie even under DR still has upward or 48% or better resist to all, so basically deflect half of all incoming damage. So the only way your going to kill one is to hit them with the most absurd thing you can, fully knowing you have to work twice as hard to kill him/her. Also most run pff/aid or hiber so you have to work even harder to down one, and heaven forbid they just phase and run off than you wont kill them at all. Alot of them i fight will literally kite all the way back to their base and run inside the tunnel for cool downs. So CHAMONE!!! CHAMONE!!
Also it's not the car it's the driver so.. -
Only problem their mac is like i posted a while back, it's just to many fire/ss brutes running around in sirens. I remember one night it was 10 brutes on and 9 was ss/fire, so if he is dueling he won't win that fight unless he has a crit hax. So for sirens id go BB/reg or lol fire/ss tank can't beat them join them lol.
I feel your pain on the spines though, my first 50 was a spine/reg accoladed, fully loaded and i remember when i13 beta dropped. That first day spines was godly hitting like a the old fire/em's actually waaaay better. Iirc impale was like 2k damage at range, so i knew when they fixed that bug, spines would be truely gimp. I went squishie for a while after i13 i went to rupters only for a long time. -

I share this just to show how dumbed down things are now, where i used to very much be sitting up concentrating, and did a lot more cursing at the screen (which ironicaly is good) he is the devs champion for i13-15 and on another thread where he defends this mess, he and silit are at war about the old arena days verry funny stuff. But he's intitled to his oppinion, albeit minority oppinion, but he's free to try. -
Blu, your post is pretty spot on and shows how we got to this nonsense, alot of the whiners were to lazy to actually do what it took to be a good pvpr. They just wanted victory handed to them so they cried, so castle granted it to them slowly at 1st and then forced feed i13. And they played it, still performed the same versus a skilled player, and quit playing it again, so now all servers save freedom and virtue have ghost towns. And they don't because we all transfered their to pvp. I spent at least 45$ transfering toons, AE was the greatest thing ever for a pvpr in the respec you could stop transferening toons, save the 9.99 and just pl a toon up for pvp.
All this new pvp did, was change the fotm builds it would have made more sense just to add the possitive things to the new system, instead of force feeding us a whole new one thats far worst than the other one. Their is no reason a squishie should have 48% resist to all that is no longer squishie, more tank magish to me. And it turned pvp into city of hiber/phase it's a sad state when you look around and like 4 or more ppl are in their hiber around you. I saw that today for the first time and thought of how it is now. You can't even really solo a competent squishie unless your a heavy damage range toon. Now they just kite all the way back to the base until hiber is up.
I chased this dom today, from the 1st hero bridge all the way back to the vill base, it was so bad i was trying to supress kill him, but i was suppressed too so it wouldnt work lol. -
So me being forced to uphold the law, it cost me a spot the team i was investigating for breaking the law. I found their dueling area and was forced to intervene. I did actually break protocal, i allowed the first duel to take place and didn't stop the unlawful behavior, but the teammate talked so much about his skills i allowed his duel, and allowed him to be defeated before i destroyed the original victor. It went something like this..

As you can see from the brief exerp, they were upset with me having to punish the offender, and restore order. I was kicked from the team and am now forced to just solo and defend justice, the life of an officer is tough indeed. -

my tank is farm made...i respec'd out of pvp built many issues ago.
Edit: i wasn't talking a fight club style fight sorry, i don't know who would win that, i just know you won't get past aidself and SOW with a tanker fire melee, unless the combatant falls asleep at the wheel. -
Also a fire melee tank won't kill a WP tank in a fight not even with dr on, most fire melee scrappers can't kill WP brutes in the zone so against a tank with higher values it wasn't going to happen. Provided his toon was pvp built that is.

I was wondering, from the rest of you veteran PvPers, how RV, pre i13, compares to RV now. I was surprised to see 50 or so toons duking it out during the evening. This is not uncommon. Anyhow, I was really wondering if Freedom RV was more...or less populated before i13. Also, was their more lag or less back then?
Just wondering what RV was like before the big PvP changes.
Why AS me? why not AS the defenders? Or the blasters? or the trollers, or at the very least test your might on the scraps, or how about realizing youve been discovered and also realize burn, and quick sand is down so AS won't work, i just kept seeing him stoop over trying. But a solo stalker is of no concern to most anyway, let alone a tank. So next i noticed he fell into the same pattern i noticed all night, all the stalkers i encountered had brain lock when AS failed for what ever reason. I'd see them,.. put burn, or quick sand down and they would just stand their looking dumb, or just run away all together. No plan B, no tactics, and most of all not knowing their enemy. Incase you we're wondering about the stalker i mentioned, i just turned and killed him while he sat their frozen. Almost like it is mandatory to use AS to get kills.
But regarding the old pvp, it wasn't perfect but it made sence, like take holds for instance, you had an amount of protection, and the amount was linear depending on your class, your buffs, Breakfree usage, and if someone achieved higher than your protection you were held. Made sense, now it could have used a bit of tweaking for pvp, maybe give Breakfree's a longer duration, and cut down on how many applications of hold protection a single buffer could apply to one target. Now a stalker can hold a WP tank while he's running SoW, and keep dropping his rttc, effectively keeping his regen limited at best, that's silly, and takes away the roles of doms and trollers.
Speaking of roles, most buffer classes on teams these days, are the main attackers, that's nonsense imo, the hardest kill i had all day was this pain corr, between the heals, and the passive, and active resist that squishies get they are by far Tank Mages now.
Pvp had it's flaws, but i think with the help of that pvp wish list, everyone helped build, we would have been in a far better place than we are now. I13 was a bust and we said this would happen in beta, but we didn't get any responses to our imput, and now the devs are seeing we we're all right.
I just hope, they use GR to fix this, and at the very least give us a pre i13 zone, or i fear ppl will run to CO just to prove a point. In my three years of play, this was the first 2x xp weekend freedom wasn't locked. I remeber in the old days leaving my toon on and fearing logging off, because i knew i wouldnt get back in. But not this weakend, so i'm like is it the server stability? or did our number dwindle extreemly? -
I have occassional pockets of fun, nothing sustained though, not like before i12 where i'd go to sleep dreaming of builds to compete with. Now i just pick a damage oriented build, slot up and pew pew. Now if you get a kill, it's just not the same satisfaction like it used to be, it feels like a expolit. Keep suppressing someone until they die, it's no real strategy it's odd that, slows and debuffs dont slow you from the actual move itself, but you slow from being suppressed.
I just hope the devs take this final hail mary pass (GR) and use it to restore pvp to a more viable(fun) build, remove all these changes exept for the positive ones on the short list, like the toggle not dropping deal off the top of my head i can remember. -

I got on my tank, and kited around picking of soft targets, all the while i had slows and other debuffs on me, ran through caltrops, np and in this new pvp the only debuff that matters is end drain. And since the other debuffs are such a joke, it makes end drain seem op'd in comparison. Another instance i got tp'd, into a group of 3 MM's, one traps, one poison, and a storm and i made it out alive np, all the while poison debuffed, caltroped and what ever eles have you including slows. That is plain stupid, and broken, it went from one extreem to the next. I remember slows being feared and very effective, every toon shouldnt be effective against every toon, it was better as a rock paper sissors type of fight.
My tank probably would do bad versus a dom, but that blaster on my team could fight a dom well, but that fort could fight a blaster well, a scrapper could fight that fort and so on and so forth. It wasnt perfect, but it made sense, buffers played a large role in any teams success, now i can't remember the last time i had a support toon on my pvp team. And if you see them, their built for damage and solo play. Pvp is not in a better place than before, it is only different, and worst off in alot of aspects. -

I consider myself good with alot of different toons, from defenders to corrs to brutes, but for the life of me i don't care how well slotted the toon is, i can have the best io in every slot, but i cannot work MM's. Now to some it's cake, and i'm a noob for being a weak MM user, but if you fight my MM, you probably will win lol. Atleast i can admit it, i tried thugs/poison bots/traps, nin/dark now mind you my highest one is 35. But if i get wrecked in sirens like i do, i might as well not run mm's to rv it will be a mess lol.(Can't drive MM's) -

And how could you leave DA out it was on par with em for viabilty, it didn't have the raw damage but fear used to be devastating and it had that along side viable damage, all stalkers wanted was the other sets to be brung more inline damage wise to em, but alot of sets was used.

I was down in sirens today, playing with a ma/wp i made just for kicks (pun intended) and i fought several brutes, doms, stalkers, rupters, mm's. And out of all of them only the mm's we're diverse.
EveryDom was mind/?? mostly electric, levitate and kill you before or as you get up, took me a while to get used to that, and work a counter out to live.
EveryBrute, save one lone ss/wp was ss/fire, right now at the time of this post it's 10 brutes on and 9 are ss/fire.
EveryStalker is electric melee save one lone spines running around, and mostly regen.
Everycorr is thermal or rad i fought today, i really couldnt get a good fix on them, to small of a sample.
EveryVeat is still in mothballs, i saw one briefly but he got wrecked and farmed and eventually left the zone, if theirs more they are inconsequencial and not in the mix.
MM's how ever came in alot of forms today, it was a very deadly dark mm earlier, who solo was unkillible.
I say all this to say, pvp is actually getting worse as a whole overal everyone is the same. Our once richly diverse pvp has become nothing more than a first person shooter, with a few subsets. And soon after a few more nerfs here and their, anyone who pvp's will be using the same build, what ever that is. This is sad, and for the first time i couldn't have fun pvp'ng, i actually had more fun in AE doing pve.
I made a mission, where alot of the old pvp builds are their, and they fight on you and each other, they move freely and unsuppressed, and you need BF's to beat the mish as it's alot of mez users towards the end. I have one part where numina buffs you, and fights along side you, it so reminds me of the old days when emps worked like they were supposed to.
But like the title says, the new word for fotm should be every.. -
During our sweeps, after clearing out the subway completely, we also found a few secret offenders breaking the law by charlie bunker, unfortunately we we're forced to kill enemy observers as well, as to not blow our cover.

I'm actually umdercover, on a non sanctioned op, with 4 doms confiscating arms and subduieng offenders for illigal use of powers in the subway station.

For starters unless you plan on droning tp is a waste on a regen, next fighting is useless and really not needed. In zone pvp on a regen +rech is king [censored] long as your heals come back fast your ok. You get a free 10% resist to all shield and that is enough really. Resilience is a waste(save holding IO's), stuns and holds last mere seconds in pvp it's not like pve where a hold or stun will leave you there until you take a breakfree, castle dumbed down pvp so you don't even need breakfrees. And if you took weave just to place your lotg, you'll be better served getting steath-phase. Some sort of get away power is needed, castle suppressed all movement, on any action you take so you be stuck in the sand alot. Most scrapper take laser beam eyes, i know in pve it's a lol power but in pvp it's powerful.
For some odd reason Castle deamed it wise to make pvp and pve play like two different games, from powers down to how inspirations are used, it doesnt really make sense, but what can you do?
So drop fighting teleportation and pick up fitness, leaping, it's true QR is good, but so are the therms youll be running from and every little bit helps, especially the regen you get off health, it stacks nicely and holds some nice uniques. -

[/ QUOTE ]Why? Becauuse it's the only real way that they die in a zone, and thats even rare. It takes a serous spike to kill a competent regen and most will just run off before that happens, unless you get lucky and sneak a hold or two in so they can't flee.
I guess it makes them feel alive lol, but in a toe to toe duel a good stalker or a competent brute can down a regen.
