  1. Holy Schnikeys man! This is an amazing guide! I am amazed at all the time and effort you must have put into this! You deserve a flipping medal! Kudos to you!

P.S. I have an Ice/Storm and an Ill/Rad. One for serious controlling and another for more soloability. Based on what I just read, good to know I made good choices.

    P.P.S. *5-Stars the thread*
  2. So... I guess I was already looking at the three best artists for what I want, huh?
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Look in my gallery for contact info if ya need em!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I actually did that just a few minutes ago. *Giggles*
  4. Graver's got some real talent and a really interesting style, but it's not what I'm looking for. At least not this time.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
If you want traditional comic book style, those three are the men to talk to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just want to explore all my options, I am HUGE fan of those three, though.

As for how much time I have... fiance' turns 26 at the end of September. I hope that's ample time to commission a quality piece if I order it soon.

Also... Brandon needs to move his [censored] and get that site up that he told me about!
  6. As a some of you may know, Darkfang and I have been together IRL for over 5 1/2 years. We knew each other for a few years before that too... since I was 14 (I'm now closing on 22). We're now engaged. Eeee!

Well... I thought a great present for his 26th Birthday would be a commissioned piece of art featuring one of our duos. We already got a headshot of Captain Galacto and Galacto Girl by David Nakayama, and he kinda wants exclusive drawing rights to Ravenbane and Darkfang (I'm working on talking him out of that one, I want to see what other people do with them ). So, right now, I'm leaning towards one of our Mutant college-sweethearts Battletide and Psycharisma.

I'm not entirely certain on all the specifics for what I want... but I do have one cool image in my head right now that I'll discuss with the artist I choose. I want something that will be colored, and possibly an action shot that I won't have to sell my ova to afford. Got a wedding to plan and all.

I would like suggestions from artists and artist groupies on this board that can recommend good artists for the job (feel free to wh*re yourself out, artistes. ). I want to commission someone with a very comic book-esque art style. For example, three of the ones I'm looking at now are Douglas Shuler (Darkjedi), Brandon McKinney (Cyberlynx), and Gill Bates. That's the kind of style I'm hoping to get for the hubby-to-be's b-day.

Any other suggestions are appreciated, especially if you can provide a website or an e-mail address for the artist. Examples of their work would be great, too! Thanks guys!

P.S. Even though the fiance' is an artist himself, he RARELY comes to this board, so no worries about spoiling it.

I'm not taking commissions for another few days, but my website is www.douglasshuler.com .

I have a few quick samples in my sig below.

*Does too* Doug is one of the artists I'm considering to commission for a birthday present for my fiance'. The other's being Gill and Brandon... unless anyone has any other suggestions.
  8. (( Well... I have friggin' had it with the Virtue forums eating my story everytime I get busy with RL or get some writer's block, I've decided to move the story here, as things never seem to get deleted.

This is the origin story for my Energy/Energy blaster sidekick character, Galacto Girl, on the Virtue Server. I decided I’d finally try to write GG's origin story. Special thanks to Krickette and others, whose stories posted here for all to read have inspired me to do the same. I apologize if this first post is long, but I didn’t feel like I should split it up. I hope you like it! Feedback is appreciated. ))

    Part One
    *****************************
    “BECKY!”

A hazel-eyed brunette of about sixteen, half-dressed in a Catholic school uniform, shrieked as she stormed out of her bedroom and down the short upstairs hall. Banging the heel of her hand on the door of another room, she continued, “Becky, stop stealing all my freakin’ socks! I want them back now!”

She threw open the door and went directly for the dresser, yanked one of the top drawers open and began fishing around. She turned to sister and glared, “Sock-klepto.”

“Dani!” the younger girl panicked as she leapt off her bed, “What’s your problem?! I’m not dressed! Daddy or Josh’ll see me!” The younger sister, about twelve, brunette like her sister but with blue eyes, ran across her room and hurriedly shut the door most of the way.

Becky, dressed in her stockings and a button-down uniform shirt, turned to face her sister, realizing Dani was not much more clothed that she, only with boxer shorts over the stockings and a bit of make-up, which Becky was not allowed to wear at school. “Oh my God, neither are you! You can’t even wear socks with your uniform, why do you even care!?”

“That’s not the point, Beck. They’re mine, not yours, and I’m sick of not having them. Plus, I’m bringing a change of clothes,” her sister replied, not looking up from the drawer as she continued to sift through its contents.

Becky’s gaze dropped to her sister’s midsection. “Then I’ll stop stealing your socks when you stop stealing my hairclips,” Becky accused, pointing to one of said hairclips attached to the bottom of her sister’s shirt. She approached her older sister and yanked the clip from the shirt hem as Dani pulled a pair of socks with cats on them out of the drawer. She whipped around and pushed it shut with her hip.

A smug expression crossed Dani’s face, “There. Done. Thank you. And Dad’s downstairs and Josh’s in his room. Calm yourself.”

“Danielle! Rebecca! Girls, it’s too early to start fighting! I refuse to have a headache before 8 in the morning,” their mother called as she appeared in the doorway, putting in earrings.

“Sorry Mom,” Becky and Dani called in unison. Becky started to gather up her hair in her hand, twisting it around twice and clipping it up, when a little boy dressed in his pajamas, no older than 6 with ruffled sandy hair, rubbed his grey eyes as he walked sleepily into view.

He pouted innocently, “What’s going on? You guys woke me up.”

“Josh! Don’t look at me!” both the girls cried in unison and scrambled to check themselves, making sure their little brother wouldn’t catch of glimpse of them half-dressed.

Their mother rolled her eyes and sighed at them as she stroked her son’s head, “It’s okay, Josh. Go get dressed; your father’ll drive you to school before he goes to work.”

Josh nodded and before heading for the bathroom as his mother patted him gently on the back, he turned back to his two older sisters and said with a pout, “You two suck.”

She turned back to her two daughters, “If you two are quite finished, hurry up and finish getting ready. I’m driving both of you and I need to be at school with Dani by 7:50. Teachers can’t be late.” The girls nodded. Their mother smiled warmly and turned back to her and her husband’s bedroom.

Becky pulled her jumper off the hangar and slipping her arms through it. Before pulling it over her head she turned to Dani, thingyed her head at the door and glared, “Now can you leave?”

    *****************************

The sound of 3 pairs of feet resounded through the Roberts’ home on the western edge of Baumton as Dani, Becky, and Josh thundered down the stairs almost on top of each other. Dropping their backpacks by the door, they turned and entered the less than spacious kitchen. At the table sat 3 clean bowls and sthingys, a small collection of dry cereals, and a half-empty gallon of 2% milk.

Their father, a tall man with reddish-brown hair and business-casual clothes, smiled at them, rising to give them ample room at the table and took his own dishes to the sink. He made his rounds, kissing each of them on the cheek, “Morning Becky…Josh…Dani.”

“Morning Dad,” they all said in turn. Each of them reached for a cereal, poured it into their respective bowls and waited for the milk to pass around. This was, of course, not without the usual sibling rivalry.

“Josh,” Becky whined, “I called the last of the Fruity Pebbles! You ate like the whole box!”

“Nuh-uh, Becky! Dani ate most of it.”

Dani looked up and furrowed her brow, “I so did not you little goober! You did cuz you were looking for that Ice Age toy!”

    “Nuh-uh!” Josh whined insistently.

Becky took this opportunity to snatch the box of the remaining Fruity Pebbles and smugly opened it, “You’re such a little brat, Josh.” Her little brother began to whimper, a surefire omen of impending tears. “Oh my God, you’re going to cry over cereal!”

“Rebecca. Give your baby brother the last of the cereal,” their mother said sternly. Becky grumbles and roughly shoved the box of cereal back into her little brother’s hands and settled for the Smacks still sitting untouched on the table.

Josh smiled gloatingly and emptied the box into his bowl. While his mother, not trusting him with the carton of milk in his small hands, poured some into his bowl, he glared across the table as his two bigger sisters, who were now donning the entirety of their school uniforms while Josh wore street clothes, “You two are so loud. You wake me up every morning.”

“Oh poor baby Josh, who’s still asleep when everyone else is awake,” Becky scoffed.

Their mother, choosing to ignore Becky’s remark, took the milk off the table and placed it back in the refrigerator, “Well Josh, next year you’ll need to wake up with them since first grade starts at 8:00 too. Consider yourself lucky you don’t need to be at kindergarten until 9:00. You’re as lucky as your father.” She looked across the table at her husband, crossing to him and giving him a gentle kiss. A small chorus of disgusted noises whispered among the three children.

Their parents rolled their eyes and turned to them, their father adding his two cents, “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Old people aren’t allowed to kiss or anything, we know. But really girls, try to keep it down until your brother wakes up.” They nodded reluctantly. “Oh and Becky, my little computer nerd,” her father continued with a smirk; Becky looked up. “Your computer should be here next week. I know it’s nearly June and practically two months late for a birthday and Confirmation gift, but it’s on its way.”

Becky beamed, her mood immediately lifted, “Wicked. Thanks, Daddy!”

“Dani, Becky,” their mother began, “You ready to go?” She tapped her watch with the tip of a finger. The sisters nodded, rose and dropped the bowls in the sink.

“Yeah Mom, we're good to go. Bye Daddy. Bye Josh.” They hugged their father and brother good-bye. Their mother took the chance to kiss her husband good-bye for the day and whispered, “I love you.”

“See you tonight,” the two girls called to the males in their family. Their mother gathered her purse while the girls threw their backpacks over their shoulders. They left their home and climbed into their mother’s station wagon.

    “Shotgun!” Dani called.

    *****************************

Mrs. Roberts’ car pulled up to the front of St. Matthew Grade School, one of many in a line of cars leaking school-age children.

Her mother stopped her before she could leave the car, “Becky, I’m picking you up at 2:30, right?”

“Um…” Becky thought, “No, Mom. I’m supposed to stay after school to help with the page layout for the yearbook. I’m apparently the only one in school that knows how to use this program called Illustrator...” Becky trailed off, deciding it best to neglect mentioning the only reason she knew it was because she’d ripped a copy of the expensive program off the internet.

Her mother nodded and turned to Dani, “In that case we’ll have a little driving lesson for you after school’s out.” Dani smiled excitedly as her mother looked back to her other daughter, “Becky I need you to call me when you’re ready to be picked up.”

Becky nodded, “Will do, Mom. Love you. You too, Dani.” Becky leaned up between the two front seats and kissed her mother and sister good-bye. She climbed out of the car, adjusted her jumper, and shut the door behind her. With a sigh, she started her climb up the steps of her school, disappearing into the swarm of uniformed students.

    *****************************

A few hours later, Becky dropped her tray onto her lunch table and slid into a chair next to her freckly, red-head friend Nicole and a few more of her closer friends. Picking up her fork, she prodded the congealed mass of what was supposed to be macaroni and cheese with a thoroughly disgusted look on her face, “Someone remind me to brown-bag it from now on…I think this ‘cheese’ is really toe jam.”

The table collapsed into a round of snickers and giggles. They grew silent as they heard an unfortunately familiar voice behind them.

Becky rolled her eyes, “My pregnant dog-sense is tingling, Michelle Healey at 8 o’clock.” She thingyed her head behind her and slightly to the left as a tall girl, obviously an early bloomer, passed with a group of other girls and a few boys in tow. The table of friends watched through narrowed eyes as the most hated/loved girl of their grade passed their table, apparently too busy whining to her clique about whatever minor inconvenience to grace them with her usual round of derisions. She and her cronies turned their heads to look down their noses at the table full of friends, then broke into a group of laughing as the clique continued to walk away. They watched her sit a few tables away and the tension broke at the table with a series of mutterings.

    “What was that about?”

    “…God I hate her.”

    “Who doesn’t?”

“Everyone that was walking with her?”

“No… most of them don’t actually like her,” Ms. Kingsley interjected from behind Becky and Nicole. “They just pretend to and follow her around because they’re too scared to contest her. And if they actually do like her now, they’ll change their minds one day soon. You’ll meet people like that all through your lives, it’s best to decide now how you plan to deal with them. Plus, just think of it this way: it’s the end of May. Three more weeks and you’re done with everyone from school you dislike until September.”

Ms. Kingsley was a recent college graduate and new teacher, a slender pretty woman with blonde hair. Being less than 15 years older than most of the student body she was often regarded as “the cool teacher”… and the object of many a school boy crush. She taught math and science to the majority of the table and was easily Becky’s favorite teacher. “Now,” she put a finger to her lips and grinned, nodding to the front of the cafeteria, “time to say grace even though most of you are half done lunch already.”

A nun walked to the front of the lunch room and picked up the microphone, clearing her throat into it to get the students’ attention. The lunch room slowly fell into silence.

    *****************************

“But Ms. Kingsley…” Michelle Healey whined shrilly. The teacher threw up her hands and raised her voice loud enough for the entire computer lab of yearbook students and detentions to hear.

“Michelle! One, you have plenty of pictures in the yearbook already. And two, yes, I am the faculty advisor for the yearbook, but Rebecca is in charge of the layout.”

Becky poked her head up from the computer screen at the mention of her name.

Ms. Kingsley continued, “It’s up to her if you or your friends get anymore page space. Now please get back to your work.” Michelle hmphed loudly and flopped back down into her seat, muttering. “Michelle, if you would listen when I told you to stop passing notes in my class, you would be home right now. Please stop distracting the yearbook staff or I’ll keep you here all next week too.”

Becky smirked to herself and sank back down into her chair. Nicole sat, typing out descriptions for various clubs and activities. Nicole had only joined the yearbook to hang out with Becky, who leaned over to her and whispered, “It’s up to me if she gets anymore space in the yearbook? Yeah… that’ll happen.” They both snickered and nodded. They would have been lying if they’d said they didn’t revel in the small amount of power Becky now held over Michelle.

Ms. Kingsley leaned over Becky’s shoulder to examine her work. “Good, Becky. Just…” she pointed to one of the images, “Move this one over here and that one up there, and you’ll have enough room for the text that Nicole’s typing up right now.”

Becky nodded and started to rearrange the layout of the page, “Okay, thanks, Ms. Kingsley. Um, is this any be…?” The sound of ceramic shatter against tile startled the girls, who turned to see Ms. Kingsley gazing out the window of the second story computer lab, her coffee cup reduced to shards at her feet.

“Hey!” called a boy sitting at a row facing with the window. He pointed outside with a look of total bewilderment.

“What’s with all those red lights?”

And how many submissions did you get, anyway?

    Oh. D'oh.

Don't feel bad... it's a weird thing. That and Capisce is too formal. Capisci is more of an informal thing.

Mine and Darkfang's pictures are in! We have one true action shot, and another with them cracking their knuckles in the center of a mob of Family, ready to give them a sound thrashing.

I truly truly hope they get in there. Ravenbane's backstory for almost 2 years now has been that her family was the target for a mob hit way back in 1944, right before she was turned. She unintentionally avoided the hitman sent after her and found out they were whacked because her parents had taken out a loan from them to pay for her college. It being just post-Depression America, they didn't have enough collateral to get a loan from a reputable bank, and they wanted her to be the first in their family to get a degree.

    I'm rambling...

Here's my submission! They so look ready to pound those guys.
  12. Capisce. It's backwards in Italian. Ce is pronounced Chay while Che is pronounced Kay! Same with Ci (chee) and Chi (key), Ge (jay) and Ghe ([censored]), and Gi (jee) and Ghi (Like eggy.

P.S. How do you color them so well? I found the bare templates for this style, but no guidelines for clothes or hair or anything. Do you paint it all yourself?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I got the templates from : http://www.dcuanimated.com/gallery/main.php

I just draw the accessories on top of the template and keep referring back to the screenshot as I draw. It's a matter of making what's in the screenshot simplistic. For the colors, use the main color and a darker shade for the shadowing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, that's the same site I know of, I'm just not that artistically inclined. That's the fiance's forte.

The new ones look AWESOME man, I can't wait to see them!
  14. Ooh!! Ooh!!!! Please do a duo picture of mine and my fiance's characters: Captain Galacto and Galacto Girl! They would look awesome in this style, methinks.

Here be a bunch of screenshots!

You can't see it well in the screenies, but they do have the Body Sparkles Light Aura in yellow. Whether or not you want to include that is up to you. Also, GG is a teenager, if that affects what model you use or anything, I figured you should know. And her eyes are blue. I can't wait to see it!!!

P.S. How do you color them so well? I found the bare templates for this style, but no guidelines for clothes or hair or anything. Do you paint it all yourself?

Why the sudden turnaround in Dev behaviour?

    [/ QUOTE ]

My theory is that Statesman finally killed his evil twin after a year long battle and reassumed control over CoH.

    Either way, way to go!
  23. I spoke to States yesterday at Showcase Comics in Bryn Mawr. He thought I didn't know who he was (Please, I so did ), and after I told him he did, he was all like, "Awww, I was going to ask you about ED and all." I told him that my blaster was hurt less than I expected, and that my controller was doing fine but was only a low level, and my defender was pretty much unscathed (actually, she laughs at ED, but I didn't say that. ). Well, I told him I had an SR scrapper that I'm pretty bitter about. He said "Well, we gave you that resistance." I restrained myself from saying that it's crap, since he was pretty nice IRL, really.

But... he DID say that they were working on yet another boost (not the debuff resist, we already have that) for SR. Yay! Let's just hope that it's better than the SR scrapper resistance defiance.

Ravenbane and I have been a RL bf/gf for years, and more or less all of our characters are linked in some way, be they married, college or highschool sweethearts, hero/sidekick, , etc. That goes for heroes and villains.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Almost 5 years of official couplehood! Mind you, we were shamelessly flirting for a few months before we were going out.

    Our duos (Him/Me):
Darkfang (DM/Regen) and Ravenbane (DM/SR) = Vampire Soulmates (Long story, just take our word for it)
Captain Galacto (Invuln/EM) and Galacto Girl (EB/EM) = Classic Hero/Teenage Sidekick Duo
Battletide (Storm/Rad) and Psycharisma (Kin/Psy) = Mutant College Sweethearts
Thugbuster (Ice/Ice Blaster) and Tephra Fire (Fire/Stone) = Yeah... Those are the Booty Calls *Head Jerk* Giggity giggity giggity!
Rust-Bucket (FF/Sonic) and Cy-ren (MA/Regen) = Cybernetically Enhanced Tech Whiz (Cy-ren) and her Support Bot with Sarcasm AI (Rusty)

That's it for the heroes... we've got a few villain duos but they're still being worked on.
