Thanks for sharing the pictures. As mainly a Justice player, I wasn't introduced to Tanker Tuesday until Pep brought up the subject of the Tanker Tuesday tour on the forums. I, of course, voted that it should go on tour as I wanted to "check this out."
I found the idea of TT intriguing, and was excited to jump on board when it came to Justice. After that event, I was hooked. While I didn't participate in all the Euro server TT events because of work schedules etc, I did end up with a Tanker on every server. None of them were the same power set combination as another tank, with the exception of a Stone/Stone tank that I'd forgotten about on Virtue.
It was a great group of folks to play with on a regular basis, and while it may move onto CO, it won't be the same. Lots of fun memories. -
Quote:Why do people think you're hating?I don't know why people think I am hating.
Most of what I post is in the form of basic observations and enumeration of incidents involving the developers and their behavior.
Terminology used by you in two quick examples in this thread alone:
- "CoH is like a rotten tooth that NCsoft has pulled for me."
- "What I value most in any business is honesty and reliability CoH never had either."
Both, at best, are pejorative statements meant to evoke an emotional response. While you may attempt to present yourself in a "neutral" manner, the wording you've used in those two examples alone shows a fairly high level of disdain for the developers and how they managed the game. ( That even extends to several forum posters that you have disagreed with on various levels. )
By using such language it shows that deep down, you're not really using a "form of basic observations and enumeration of incidents involving the developers and their behavior." You're just trying to hide behind a false wall of "neutrality". -
Gear =/= character look.
Character customization, while continuing to be a work in progress, was great. (I'm looking at you Epic/Power Pools. So close, yet now so far.)
The chat system.
The ability to create so many alts. (My Fire/Fire tank didn't play the exact same way my Fire/Dark or Fire/SS tanks did. Then there were my 3 Dark tanks, and my 4 SD tanks, then there's my 12 controllers... er nvm..)
The IO system. Without it, and the ability to create alts, I would probably have been bored with the game along time ago.
I also wanted to mention Super Group bases. While we were told the underlying tech was a complete rats nest, I liked the concept. I was amazed at what some of the players were able to create, in-spite of the severe limitations the Base building tools had. It's unfortunate that the developers wouldn't/couldn't find a way to have improved this under utilized portion of the game. -

Quote:While this game was far from perfect, I still enjoyed playing this game, more then other games that were/are out there. If you've found a new game that you enjoy, have at it. If I'd been as "unhappy" as you seem to have been with this game, and it's developers, I would have moved on along time ago. I play/played this game for the entertainment value, and for the friends I made along the way.I don't know about happy but so far I am pleasantly pleased.
You might not want to read on because while this is nothing but bare facts they might upset.
Recently a game I am playing released a new issue. This is their 4th they do content updates once a month. There were bugs in the PvP instead of just letting them sit, there were devs looking at the problem and implementing fixes that went in the next day.
When those fixes weren't quite right they took steps to further minimize the problems.
The similar situation here was wait awhile and tell the players how important PvP was to the developers.
It was quite pleasing to see the contrast.
As the saying goes, the one thing in life that's constant is change. While I'm sad to see it go and will miss playing it, the closing of the game is just another change. -
Quote:I'm not saying Matt Miller should do this, but I'd love to see a game, or MMO based off of Julian May's Saga of Pliocene Exile series.I'd love to see someone do a Science Fiction MMO that worked more like Classic Star Trek than Star Trek Online did when I last played it.
Have a ship for transportation from world to world, but the actual story takes place on the ground. That could be awesome.
I think Matt may not be saying a lot about his MMO design theories or preferences right now because he's trying to land a job and doesn't want to poison the well. -
Quote:Well, I hope your as miserable as you were here..er, I mean, "as happy" as you were here, wherever you go.It isn't a complaint it is an observation. It ties in with the observation that for the past 8 years the greatest skill they have exhibited anywhere has been making excuses about why things haven't been done.
Personally if I were to get behind or otherwise help, lookforward to or pre purchase, I would want to see people whose great skill was producing the item, not the manufacture of excuses. -
Yeah. I hadn't seen the slang Astroturfing applied before either.

Quote:Colour me ignorant, but what the hell does 'astroturf' mean in that context?
(My only frame of reference is it being an actual object that's used on a football field to artificially make it green, uniform, and playable-on.)

A quick websearch showed up this Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astroturfing
Quote:Astroturfing refers to political, advertising or public relations campaigns that are designed to mask the sponsors of the message to give the appearance of coming from a disinterested, grassroots participant. Astroturfing is intended to give the statements the credibility of an independent entity by withholding information about the source's financial connection. The term is a derivation of AstroTurf, a brand of synthetic carpeting designed to look like natural grass.
Astroturfers use software to mask their identity. Sometimes one individual operates over seventy personas to give the impression of widespread support for their client's agenda. Some studies suggest astroturfing can alter public viewpoints and create enough doubt to inhibit action. -
Should the game be revived, I'd just be happy if I could retain my goofy Global Handle. Characters can be recreated. I have altitis anyway.

For me, Starsman's comments were more supposition and not facts about the Garriot case. I believe he was stating "here's how it could apply", not as "this is how it does/did apply". How does that translate into lying?

Quote:I felt it was an acceptable risk on my part.Unless I miss my guess and he actually IS the sort to do vanity searches on himself on these forums, I think we're pretty safe. He's settled in nicely in a few specific threads--and of course the Victory forum--so the odds of him coming here are pretty low.
Though if he DOES... it's your fault, dude. -
Quote:There is no hope - I love this game, and it is done forever. Instead of letting people move on after the mourning period, there are a few that fight to drag on the pain and invent new ways to say something that can be perceived as a way to keep playing CoH. I wish people didn't have to be that acidic.
Indeed. The pain of all those Brony* pictures...

Sorry for the late notice again, but if anyone is interested there's going to be another BTT event this evening on Justice. Same time and spot as mentioned previously. Brutes of all levels are always welcome. Send tells to @Papa Slade or @Warboss for more info, etc.

The analogy that fits my mindset the most: CoH = an Apartment complex that's now being torn down for a new high rise.
