    Your thoughts...
My thoughts are that you shouldn't have bothered posting this. But since you did...

I play almost exclusively on Virtue but whenever I go to another server (I have a couple rarely played toons on Victory which is VERY low pop) I have little issue finding a team.

Have you tried forming your own team? Did you do anything more than say in broadcast (random AT) lft?

Also, one other question that I don't think has been asked yet (yes I purposely repeated some that have already been pointed out for reiteration) what AT do you claim not be able to get a team on and what other MMOs have you played? I ask that because a lot of people coming from a "standard" MMO expect that as a tank or support class they should be able to find a team more often because in WoW for example 90% of the time a team of pure dps spends 20-30 minutes looking for a tank or healer where as here you can run with a team of all blasters if you choose. There is no ideal team make up... there is no lack of any specific AT. Not sure if that applies here but I bet that's what a lot of people do.

As far as merging the servers, let me just repeat what's already been said.

    No.

I play on Virtue because I like a higher pop. Some people play on Victory because they like a lower pop. It took me forever to convince my gf that playing with more people was fun but she still prefers a lower pop and would have left all her toons on Victory if I hadn't been so persistent.

Also, as was also stated previously, I would LOVE to see the specifics on this claim of dwindling numbers... especially when I see at least one post daily from someone who includes the phrase "returning player" or "new to the game" and as with any MMO the people on the forums only represent those that actually look at them not everyone playing.

While I can appreciate the additional effort it would take they've obviously done it before and from all that's been posted it obviously needs to be done again, at least according to anyone with experience in the power set. I have yet to see a post that says "TA/ is fine as is". Even the people that enjoy it say that they do so in spite of it's flaws.

I've done just that during Zombie invasions of zones I need to hunt stuff in, and it never leaves me with a pleasant memory to take home.

In the purest sense, messing with places I need to work in or pass through does nothing for me other than cause an inconvenience and most likely a delay. I will not feel better and more alive for it, I will feel the same way I do when I drive into a intersection that has half a mile of traffic backed up against it so I have to sit on my *** for 10 minutes until I can even come within view distance of the light. It'll make me feel the same way I do when I arrive at work with a bunch of documents to work on and the power dies for two hours while they fix the apocalypse somewhere along the line. It will make me feel the same way I do every time I want to do something, but either can't or I have to jump through ten hoops just to get to it.

Where people see "dynamic content," I tend to see "PITA" in their descriptions of it.

A couple things in your post that I'd like to comment on... don't take this as me giving you crap... just some observations...

When you say log out and play a better game as a response to something unexpected that made your mission not go as planned I have to ask... you do realize that this is essentially a comic book game and that comic books (typically) are not predictable right? What keeps people reading them is the twists in the story, the epic battles and the sometimes failures so that their favorite hero can get back up the next issue and pound the crap out of whatever baddie made it so. If Wolverine (using the most popular one I could think of) won EVERY fight with Sabretooth hands down, hadn't had his adamantium taken away and every issue was just him destroying everything in his path (which is awesome when it happens) it would be the most boring comic ever.

Your second paragraph as a whole is indicative that you probably stopped having fun with this game a long time ago. "Messing with the places you need to work in"? It's a game, mission after mission of kill all the baddies, have an easy time at it and move to the next mission is repetitive and predictable. I honestly don't mind it so much but I've only been playing for 7 months, I'm sure that once I hit that point where doing that it's boring I'll have to stop playing you might want to do the same or even just take a break especially if running into an AV in a safeguard mission is an "inconvience".

I don't mean that to have the tone of "why don't you just go play another game then if it's so bad here?" I just know that if I was at that point (which I was with WoW which is why I'm here) that I logged in and it felt tedious I'd quit or take a break.

In open zones, there should be turf wars, bank robberies, car chases, shootouts, etc. and in instanced missions, NPC should be actually DOING SOMETHING and not standing around in the same predetermined positions. The results of your actions in missions should have more of an effect that just "Oh well, we'll just get another hero to do it". No that I think there should be some form of tangible penalty, but when it comes to story arcs, failing a mission could be the difference between completing the arc the easy way or the hard way. The game should seem to change everytime you log in and in that, never feel repetitive.

Couldn't agree with this more... while I love the mostly instanced portion of CoH the fact that there is very little excitement outside of that is kinda disheartening. At the risk of gettin flamed for continuing to compare the two... one of things I enjoyed about WoW was the fact that at any given point the city you were in might get raided by the opposing faction causing an influx of high lvl toons to get there and have a small war.

Knowing that few people play CoX for pvp (compared to those that pve) it wouldn't necessarily have to be other players... what about Atlas park or Steel Canyon getting randomly overrun by AVs and elite bosses?

I've had one "holy crap that was awesome" moment in terms of being taken by surprise while playing CoX (not counting the initial cool factor when picking ATs and powersets etc) and it was during a safeguard I was doing with my tank and Lord Recluse showed up... it took about 20 minutes for my team to take him down but it was awesome. I would love to have stuff like that happen more often... but not in instances.

Again I'm sorry for the comparisons to WoW. Please understand that I don't think either game is anywhere near perfect and even if I did that's a matter of perspective and after playing it for 4 years I'm obviously going to make comparisons but please don't take that as me saying it's better. Honestly I think Blizzard could learn quite a bit from CoX... sadly they're too busy appealing to the brainless masses that are attraced to WoW's pick up and play qualities.

The other comparison I find myself making is from my time in FFXI... while it's gameplay is incredibly dated (that's an understatement) there was something about knowing that while traveling to where I might be headed I might run into a mob that could wipe the floor with me. Even level mobs would destroy you in that game regardless of what class you were (except maybe beastmasters).

I guess what I'm getting at is that in every MMO I've played (even my EXTREMELY brief time in Aion) there was SOMETHING that kept you slightly on edge. In CoX there are no mobs that can kill you in the streets that you can't get away from or see in plenty of time to avoid. There's no eminent danger.

Please keep the "If you liked it so much in WoW, FFXI or Aion better go play those games" to yourself if you're considering such a post. I LOVE this game... but nobody can say that there isn't at least one thing they'd like to see changed and for me it's this.

Edit: just realized how long this is... for those thinking TLDR... in short I don't think the game is too repetative, I think it's too predictable.
  6. My apologies if this has been addressed... but due to a character concept I decided to make a TA/A defender which lead me to read up on them and obviously I found this thread.

What I'm gathering from this and a few other threads I've read is that TA is weak for a primary but good/decent/passable/whatever as a secondary.

Nobody seems to be arguing EXCEPT those that are saying if the suggested buffs are given it will make it too powerful as a secondary especially for controllers.

Why can't changes be made to it as a primary leaving it alone as a secondary.

For example the way I understand it they increased the recharge time on a couple of powers for radiation blast as a blaster primary leaving it alone as a secondary, this was to compensate for the higher amount of damage it does as a blaster primary. Could the same not be done in this case?

One of the things I've seen repeated is a lower recharge time on a couple powers. Couldn't that be done to just the set as a primary?

I agree that the stories should be read, in both games. I think that this again boils down to setting. WoW's stories are intriguing enough if you enjoy that setting... the problem is that WoW caters more to the lvl as quickly as possible to get to endgame crowd who aren't going to bother with reading why they're doing a chain quest... they just know it's going to get them good xp and maybe a cool item in the process.
  9. Mine is almost identical to Dragonslay's except my lifebar etc is in the upper left corner and I keep my map as small as possible (usually).

Also, I just recently found the option to change the window scaling and have that turned down to 80%.

So, this is how awesome Virtue is. People from other servers are trying to get our awesome population to move to their server.

I do have to say though that corva may not be lost... apparently virtue is known for having lots of catgirl toons... I still have yet to see what I would call a lot of them but that's what I hear.

I would ask what recent MMOs they've played for extended periods of time.

Coming from WoW I can say that the initial adjustment was tough for me and i kinda thought the same thing and honestly still do, it just so happens that I'd had my fill of WoW.

I hate to draw comparison because they're so different but one of those differences stands out when talking about this. All of the instances that can be run in WoW are set... when you do Shadowfang Keep (one of the early ones) it's the same every time you enter it. However... each one is entirely different from the rest. In CoX most maps repeat and do so often with the same enemy types and only slightly different objectives with different text telling you what to do. Go to this cave and defeat all of the enemies inside vs go to this cave and take out this specific enemy, his crew and maybe find a glowie.

They're right to a point that CoX is repetative... I would just point out as has already been stated that ALL MMOs are. Another part of the problem could be the setting. Most MMOs currently out there are sci-fi/fantasy in nature. So adjusting to a city of all superheroes causes you to have to put effort into suspending a different set of beliefs as opposed to the ones that already are because of how many times it's been done... if that makes sense.

    Since when?

I tried playing a dark/dark defender... He was cool... I liked the way I designed him and I love the effect dark powers have when I'm teamed with someone using them... the sets just aren't for me.

Every toon I play gets to lvl 15 or so before I can really decide if I'm digging them. I have yet to find a defender I really like, so it could just be that the AT isn't for me too.

This I agree with... I think WoW's addons are a bit excessive but they're useful if you want to take the time to set them up.

One in particular I was thinking about I would love to see in CoX. I would love it if when on my WP/SS tanker if I could have a timer showing me the 10 seconds that my attacks were worthless because of the rage crash so I didn't use end on knockout blow or foot stomp.

75% of all roleplayers suck at roleplaying, this is fact. If you are so easily entertained by trivial, boring crap, then maybe you should go play World of Warcraft.

So much for my thought that all RPers were nice.

    I don't care for Freedom.

I'll admit RPing on a team where NOBODY else is RPing may feel awkward and if that's the case for you then don't, it's a personal choice.

Crystal meth is an illegal drug that does horrible things to your body, RPing is something you're supposed to do for fun and is typically encouraged on Virtue. Nice analogy, idiot. Sorry I prefer direct insults over sarcasm when someone's being so outwardly rude.

I assume you consider yourself to be in the 25% that doesn't suck at it? Yay for you! You're awesome in a fictional world but are a complete @$$hat in real life when you have the ability to hide beyind the anonymity that the internet provides. If you can't be entertained by people that are genuinely enjoying themselves then maybe you need to get off your high horse and relax a bit.
  17. Welcome to Virtue... I've only been playing slightly longer than you and I second what everyone else has said. I play on this server almost exclusively and rarely has anyone been blatantly rude.

I think the people that fall into the "lolRP" group are jealous of the imagination or oblivious to their own lack of it. I'm jealous myself I just deal with it by observing the environment those that do RP create. Admittedly, I do think some take it too far (ERP... really? you obviously have access to the internet... use it!) but to each their own.

I don't know that I've ever found myself on an all RP team before but even if I'm in the minority I never really feel left out as I'm usually fairly quiet on teams anyway. If I'm tanking it starts with "rdy?" after everyone gives the appropriate response I charge in full bore until we're done lol. If I'm blasting I wait for the tank to charge in... then I blow things up lol.

    Hi RPers!!!

    You're quite welcome
  20. Radubadu

    Hi RPers!!!

I have to start this by saying personally, I HATE RPing... I simply lack the imagination to lose myself in a character like that and all of my toons are essentially me with powers that I would like to have which I think is why I've only really been able to "get into" two of them.

Having said that, I've noticed that at times when teamed with RPers some do not RP if most of the team is not. Don't do that, if you like to RP do it please... I say this for two reasons 1. If you enjoy that part of the game don't stop because others don't and 2. as much as I personally do not like to RP I do find it very entertaining when observing others who do, it's almost like watching a superhero movie that I get to be a part of.
  21. Sailboat I think I understand your concern with the changes... whether it was your intention or not it reminds me of one of the problems and best parts of WoW... there's always something new to do with your main... but there comes a point where even if something is fun it's obsolete.

Example: running through Ulduar (the last raid that was out when I was playing) was fun because it was challenging, got you new awesome gear, blablabla... you could still run through Naxxramus (sp?) which was the one prior to that but you didn't need gear from it and people were all geared from Ulduar to the point that there was no challenge in it to make it fun. Ultimately WoW is simply too easy and unlike CoH there's no way to adjust difficulty so it eventually becomes very monotonous... playing a mage was as simple as hitting a sequence of 2 MAYBE 3 buttons and making sure your positioning was ideal to avoid dying it sounds kinda challenging but after recognizing the pattern of whatever boss it was ridiculously easy.

Having said all that, from what I've seen of CoH thus far I have faith that the devs will not follow that same pattern.
  22. Being relatively new I'm hoping to have 3 50s by the time GR goes live if not more... and I know I'll think the same thing... what you're going to do with 30+ is beyond me lol

You could hold a raffle! Put all their names in a hat and draw names
  23. My only real concept character came long after I actually created him. Radubadu is a name I've had for every MMO toon since it was randomly generated for me when I started playing FFXI, given that he was primarily a black mage and my biggest joy in that game was herding tons of baddies and AOEing them down with fire it was only natural that he be a fire/fire blaster when I started CoH. It wasn't until after he was in the mid 20s that I actually kinda came up with a story for him.

Dabbling in magic for years as a young man the one now known as Radubadu (who's real name is unknown) came upon incantations that led him to inadvertantly summon a fire demon who now possesses him giving him the power to manipulate fire and use it against his enemies. While not one to shy away from power it is a constant struggle to keep the demon at bay that he occasionally loses at which point he blacks out and displays his power so wrecklessly that he is left drained and usually unconscious.

I'm actually not an RPer at all but this came to me in anticipation for Inferno and ways that I could make it cooler looking. So the idea was that I would have him in his normal costume (no pics as I'm at work) and prior to using inferno I would hit a bind that would change him into a demon looking toon in the same costume with the evil laugh emote causing him to burst into flames for the change I even bought the science booster pack just so I could make the demon bigger and more menacing as Radu is rather short. Sadly it doesn't work very well because after hitting the bind to change the costume he stands there stupidly for 5-10 seconds after the change so it's not as seemless as I'd like so I don't really do that.

While I agree with this for the most part I do feel it necessary to play devil's advocate a bit. What if farming doesn't appeal to you?

One of many parts of WoW (sorry for those that hate on it) that I liked was that there were TONS of ways you could make money and despite what some have said here it didn't take much effort. Yes it would take more than a couple hours worth of play to make large sums but to me this never felt like a grind... I could usually make 2K in a couple hours with one of my toons with minimal effort the only thing that took a long time was waiting for it to sell... so those that found it difficult merely lacked patience.

I liked gathering and crafting... it was a way to lose yourself in another part of the game.
