I do too for the most part but, as I stated there are both sides to the argument. I'm not going to get into the other side as I don't want it to seem like I'm rallying for the idea, frankly RMT doesn't really bother me. I don't use it and the people spamming while a minor annoyance aren't going to ruin the game for me as long as I've been playing MMOs I've just learned to accept that they are unfortunately a "normal" part of them.

I've not witnessed this yet but sadly there's likely nothing that can be done about it and it will probably only get worse. And since when did they take away the ability for them to send emails? I still get at least one daily, or are you referring to the ability to change the options to only get emails from friends? I haven't changed that because I have no problem opening my email and just clicking spam. In fact I prefer that because at least it helps them id who the RMTers are.
I appreciate any effort the devs put in to stop it but honestly, I'm starting to think the only real solution to RMT from 3rd party companies is for devs to offer the same service cheaper. There are arguments for both sides of that debate that I'm honestly on the fence with. Even if it were something offered by the devs I wouldn't take advantage of it but at least there would be no more spam because even if to counter RMTers lowered their prices I would bet that most players would pay slightly more to still be in line with the EULA.
I have no idea what legal loopholes keep RMT sites running but until there's a way to close them I don't think it will ever get any better. -
My girlfriend and I have been working on getting our highest toons to 50 and hadn't really gotten into AE missions too much. I'd done a couple in the past and found them to be less rewarding which to my understanding is due to an xp nerf to keep people from making farming missions.
We tried LOLBAT (don't have the arc# or the exact name) but it was VERY entertaining but most importantly got us about the same xp as running regular missions.
So I have a few questions for those vets that spend a lot of time in AE whether building or running missions. First let me start by saying I'm not looking for so called "farming" missions. I have nothing against them or the people running them but from what I understand even running them puts your toons in danger.
1. How can I tell if mission is going to give me "regular" xp or the smaller percentage that seems to go along with some AE missions? I've read it has something to do with custom toons but don't really know what that means.
2. Can anyone recommend any that are duo or even solo friendly?
3. Is there a running list somewhere (other than in game) of recommended missions based on character lvl? I had tried LOLBAT before on a lower lvl toon and while it SK'd me up to 38 not having my powers matured I got destroyed lol.
EDIT: saw the sticky that answers #3 -
Finally picked up the martial arts booster...
NEVER will ninja run kill travel powers for me and I doubt for enough people to make them obsolete.
I like it on my dual blades scrapper... but on my tank who I made very large and bulky... yea no, he'll keep super jump. Even on my scrapper I don't know that he'll go without a "traditional" travel power, he's only lvl 9 atm. -
To clarify part of what I've read here. So a lvl 47 and lvl 50 mob have the exact same chances to drop a recipe and same chances of that recipe being purple and the ONLY thing that effects it is the mobs rank?
So in theory the quickest way to farm recipes is to set difficulty to -1/+8 and go on a killing spree?
Edit: the above is assuming a lvl 50 toon. -
Indeed, I never played the trial so never experienced that window. Glad you got it working though.
Also, while I do respect the inability to afford a new pc (nice ones obviously aren't cheap) I will tell you that having played it on 10 year old Dell and a laptop that runs it at the lowest settings, after getting a newer pc it made it so much more fun. Graphics aren't everything of course but they don't hurt either lol.
Anyway, good luck and hope you decide to stick around! -
Ground punch (footstomp). Thankfully it is one of my best tools as a tank but despite it being an AoE I will spend the endurance to use it every time it's up even if it's against one mob.

I never knew him, but a very sad thing regardless and I'm sure those that did will miss him. May he rest in peace.

Why not just ask the clerk if there's another copy in the back? :P

Quote:AHA! now I get it lol... and for what Impish Kat said I have mids installed on my pc at home I just haven't really messed with it all that much but I'll probably start here soon.I probably made that more confusing than necessary.
normal IO set bonuses are lost if you are more than three levels below the level of the slotted IO. Purple IOs do not obey this rule and their set bonuses are always active.
Just keep asking questions though as long as you're confused and we're happy to keep answering.
And thanks for all your guys' help! -
Quote:Let me point out again... you're judging the gameplay on an installation issue. I realize it can be frustrating but it is not a reflection of what actually playing the game is like and since installation errors aren't common issues on the boards (at least from what I've seen) you might just be unlucky. It's saying: "fixing file: piggs/geom.pigg" and it's downloading from scratch (and it won't finish before I go to bed which means the whole thing will have to start from scratch tomorrow). Sorry, but I'm really not impressed.
On the other hand if you want to walk away from an award winning game that is still one of the most original MMOs out there today because you lack the patience to get it installed after an error... well you weren't around long enough to be missed :P -
A lot of people have issues when installing games (ANY GAME) don't let a tech issue be your initial impression of the game itself.
-
After you had it all downloaded and tried to relaunch... did you click on "Verify all files"... if so don't do that lol
Otherwise I don't know what to tell you other than maybe that's just how the trial works... personally I would just pay the $20 you get a month free out of so you can experience all the game has to offer and give it a fair shot.
The first time I tried playing the game I didn't like it... went back to WoW. Came back 6 months or so ago and regret not giving it a better chance at the time. -
-
I think it's a matter of perspective... I don't see a problem with it, Blizz didn't, but NCSoft might and if so then I won't use it I'll just have the secondary toon inactive or I'll alt tab between apps as necessary. My next question is... who specifically can I ask?

Quote:Let me clarify what autohotkey is/does.I can't really help you with your primary question, which seems to be how to automate the second account. The scripting system in CoH is intentionally set up to make creating a bot effectively impossible.
When I dual boxed, the second account was either a passive lowbie just getting leveled up, or a character with mostly passive powers. For example:
I have 2 extra accounts and for a while I triple boxed with 3 controllers: my Fire/Kin, a Fire/Force Field, and another Fire/Kin. The FF bubble was a passive anti-mez protection that allowed me to fight groups that normally would be problematic because they could stun/sleep/hold. With the 3 controllers we had 3 x Hotfeet and eventually 9 imps. I just set the other 2 controllers to auto-follow. Worked fine, although I don't have a high tolerance for farming so it was something I could only stomach doing occasionally.
A critical key to multiboxing performance is the maxinactivefps command. Don't set it to zero or characters won't be able to move when their game client loses focus. I typically set it to 5 via a slash command, /maxinactivefps 5.
It does not automate gameplay.
It basically through the UI on your pc allows for a keystroke to be applied to more than one application. As I've not done this on CoX I'll explain it in WoW terms.
Running around with two mages, you set one on follow. You set all of their powers to the same bindings so when you hit 1 for fireball both mages cast it.
Those that consider that botting will argue that the second account is then automated because you're using third party software... the same effect can be achieved using two pcs, one wireless keyboard and two receivers for it, using two keyboards or simply hitting 1 > alt+tab > 1 > alt+tab. It's the same fucntion it just let's you do it more efficiently.
However, if a mod cares to tell me that this is in fact considered automation then I will not consider it further, I did it in WoW after calling and emailing customer support and contacting several GMs who all told me it is not a violation of WoW's EULA. If that's not the case here then I simply won't do it.
Even if that's the case I have no problem doing it without the "slave" toon doing anything other than following which leads to my question about the /maxinactivefps command. Do I only want to do that on the secondary account? -
Ahhh ok, I'm at work and it blocks a lot of images sometimes.

Quote:So Hecatomb no but there are other sets that I could have fully slotted in multiple powers? How do you find out... I looked it up on http://wiki.cohtitan.com and I can't really tell a difference by looking at them and they don't really say "unique" anywhere, but I could not be looking in the right spot. No, because Hecatomb (and several other sets and IOs) is a unique set, and can only be used once.
Otherwise, and in other cases, you're right. -
As I'm approaching 50 on my first toon I'm trying to learn about set IOs and have a couple questions. First let me say that I understand they're not necessary but the WoW in me *shudder* wants my toons to be as strong as they possibly can.
1. My understanding is that aside from purchasing the recipes from WW the other options are Hami raids (which I've never done), regular missions or AE missions in order of the more likely place to get a drop, is that so?
2. From what I read on wiki the set bonuses only apply if all of that set are slotted in the same power and parts of the set can't be repeated in the same power... so does that mean that I could slot the full Hecatomb set in every melee power I have assuming they all have six slots? And if price/time weren't an issue would there really be a reason not to do so?
Thanks for any help on this. -
Quote:Thanks but I'm familiar with how to do it as I assumed it would work the same as it does on WoW what I'm not familiar with is how to set up autohotkey with it and whether or not it will even work well with CoX or if I need to use another program.Short answer, its incredibly easy. Start an instance of the client. Log in. Repeat until your computer sprouts an arm picks up something heavy and starts hitting you while screaming "ENOUGH" through the speakers.
If you are running full screen just use alt-tab to switch, if you are running windowed just switch active windows.
You will also probably want to change your shortcut to something like the following
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -maxinactivefps 4
the switch minimizes the strain idle clients put on your pc. -
Could be, I think another cause for it is people coming from other MMOs that aren't so instance heavy and when they see so few toons just "out and about" on the streets they think nobody is playing.
-
I know some take advantage of the ability to do this, I'm just wondering how it works. I used to have two accounts when I played WoW and used auto hotkey. I want to try it with CoH just to see what it's like.
Also, how easy/difficult is it to use different ATs. In WoW I had it set up so that I could play two different classes (though it was harder than two mages or whatever).
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. -
Quote:In the current issue of Beckett's Massive Online Gamer magazine, an article titled "2009 in Review" notes industry happenings throughout the past year, including:
Should we take at face value the reasons given for the current free character transfer between servers in CoX: a special holiday treat, so you can play with your friends? Or is it really an industry trend? Will NCSoft and Paragon Studios follow the model that Sony Online implemented successfully? Will the current free character transfer between servers in CoX lead to some less populated servers being shut down?
Will Going Rogue be run on the same servers as CoX? Or will it be run on newer, more powerful servers while CoX is run on older, fewer, consolidated servers?
The Beckett's "2009 in Review" article tracked trends in the MMO industry, including proliferation of microtransactions. Server consolidation is another industry trend.
Don't believe CoX is heading for server consolidation? Did you believe CoX would offer a for-pay travel power (Ninja Run)?
OMG a well thought out post about server consolidation... wow... I'm not being sarcastic I'm just truly amazed by the presentation of facts (even if they pertain to another game run by another company) that are usually missing from such a post.
HOWEVER, you're speculating on whether or not NCSoft will do that. Eventually I'm sure they will but who's to say when.
The OP on the other hand is actually requesting it be done because he "can't find a team" which we ALL know means he's likely just not going about it the right way. -
How would that even be possible? I'm admittedly stupid when it comes to most tech stuff so I don't even know what you mean by serverless other than my initial interpretation of EVERYONE playing essentially on one server... how?
