Quote:For me it actually came down to Rain of Fire. 60 second recharge vs. Ice Storm's 120 second recharge. Pairing Fire Cages with Rain of Fire is almost unfair to the enemy AI.... but Fireball is ... Fireball. What more needs to be said? Hehe.
(Don't get me wrong, I love Fireball, but Rain of Fire in the hands of a Dominator is amazing.) -
Thank you for the math on Rain of Fire. That makes a lot of sense - .45 EPS, heh!
So, going by rough Mids numbers, I've got .45 EPS of burn that will go away when I slot Ragnarok, and roughly .3 EPS in recovery that will come in when I get my accolades. I also will get some level of recovery when I finish slotting Enzymes. Only had one handy, needed four.
I suspect, but haven't done the math, that the build will be very playable, even more so when I get Ageless slotted. Good times. -
As an aside, this could be a character to pick up the Ageless buff for. I was thinking I might have to switch to Cardio, but Musculature+Ageless could rock the house.
-
Quote:You were one red from the damage cap, you're not misremembering. Its just that your base damage was roughly 2/3 of what it is now.All I know is I *used* to basically be like 1 red from the damage cap with Domination + Firey Embrace and now it doesn't seem that way?
I feel your point - hitting Dom + Fiery turned me into a tiny God of destruction vs. my baseline ... but now my baseline is higher. -
So, I hit the /respec button last night ... went with a variant of my build that incorporated Obitus's suggestions re: Stupefy set in ROTP and retained Bonfire slotted with Explosive Strike. Final build (will post tonight from home) has 112.5% global recharge pre-Hasten, 33% ranged defense, 85% global accuracy and a smidgen of other miscellaneous nice things I wouldn't have had without this thread. Should be at 3.8 EPS recovery once I take care of a couple of things (see below).
Some thoughts:
(1) Wow. The sheer raw firepower of a /Fiery/Fire build really needs to be experienced. I'm still sitting dumbfounded.
(2) I'm a weenie. Seriously, I was sitting around with my little /Mace build all like "I don't need /Fire! I got capped S/L and a cute little Tarantula and an 'OH <censored>' button". I could not have been more wrong. I went from comfortably running +1/x3 Tips to +2/x8 ...
(3) Endurance burn. Wow. I burned through endurance like nobody's business! Why?
- Hadn't slotted Ragnarok yet, was running Rain of Fire with Acc/3xDam/Rech IOs. heh. Need to go strip my Claws/ Brute ... The +4% recovery and Dam/End IO will help a bit.
- I hadn't gotten Marshal or Born in Battle on this toon yet. Doh!!!! Not too bright.
- Will definitely be taking Obitus's suggestion to go Musculature Radial for the incidental recovery. Every bit will count.
Anyway, THANK YOU to Obitus, Silas, Lifewind and Dr. Dismemberment. This thread was like a master class in builds. -
heh heh
Things I liked about Obitus's Build #2:
- Fitting a full Stupefy set in there. I might have swapped the ROTP and Flashfire though - need much higher uptime in Flashfire.
- The Gladiator's Armore End/Res - relatively cheap as PvP IOs go - easy 2.5% recovery.
- The two Hecas in Kick. Heh!
- The Centrioles ... nice range
- Going Radial. Never considered it before, but sheeeeeeeeeit (to quote the great Clay Davis), you're actually getting a pretty decent recovery boost. Hmmmm. Making me think more.
One thought - could swap the stealth IO out of Super Speed and into Sprint - could then move the BOTZs into Super Speed and drop Fly (unless you like Fly of course!). I might try that and then pick up Bonfire.
Sir, these are great foods for thought. -
That's really interesting analysis of endurance usage. Hmmmm. May need to consider Cardio instead of Muscles? Hmmm, hmmm. I haven't thought about endurance like that ... ever. No wonder I'm always popping blues.
Also, that kind of slotting may make Hover worth using again - 40 mph is not bad at all - and wouldn't take too much incremental slotting what with moving slots out of Combat Jumping. -
Quote:Haven't used Hover in a long time - used to six slot for flight speed prior to ED, but haven't used it in a while. I like Hover personally, but I'm not sure I could handle the slowness of in-combat speed as I remember it (been a while though so this could have changed). Would I need to find slots for Hover flight speed?Ok, looking over the build now. A couple of (probably extraneous) questions:
-How do you feel about Hover? Are you comfortable working in more-or-less perma-Hover? It's a nice thing to have on a ranged-DEF build and personally I find it thematically pleasing, but my preferences aren't everyone's.
Quote:-Do you care about being able to solo-stack enough Hold magnitude on AVs to perma-hold them? I ask because Char is basically your third-best ranged attack. Ring works as a proxy, but it would be easier just to use Char.
Quote:-Heh, I was going to ask about the budget, but it looks like money's no object. -
Based on that, I have a couple of thoughts:
Hot Feet: Has some pros & cons.
Pros: Has a 20' range. So even if you're just dancing around the edges of groups, you'll be doing decent damage over time (15 DPS give or take) to a lot of mobs. Also, the slow effect could help with Rain of Fire. Also has a fear effect for those "Oh <censored> moments".
Cons: Cannot be activated while flying / hovering. Last I checked if you toggle Hot Feet on AND THEN fly, it remains on. But if you're already flying and then try to toggle on you'll be blocked from doing so. But its been a while - this could have changed. Also has a high end cost, but you're running cardio so you should be OK.
Whirling Hands: 8' range. If you're not in the middle of things, I would drop it. Just IMO. For Hot Feet is a good call, depending on your tolerance for toggling preflight.
Soulbound Proc: Not sure if its working correctly. There were reports from some folks that the proc did not appear to fire in testing. You may want to test it out. Either way, I would look into getting some more slots in Imps.
Sniper Blast: In general, I look to take powers that I plan to use in game (Notable exceptions: Boxing/Kick to get into Fighting Pool). I used to take the snipe on my Fire/Fire but dropped it.
Health: Good call on the Numina.
In general, I might advise trying to get a little Ranged defense as a cushion if something goes wrong. Places you could get it (after stripping Sniper of its slots): 6 slotting your blasts with Thunderstrikes (1 extra slot per power = 3 slots = 7.5% more ranged def). Adding two more Expedients to Imps for 3.13% ranged def. Toss a +3% defense IO into your res shield. That's a nice little +13% cushion to layer onto Hover's defense, and the extra ranged defense you're already getting from Thunderstrikes and Basilisks.
I personally prefer going Leadership instead of Concealment - would net you Maneuvers, Assault (or Tactics) and Vengeance, but at a loss of a LOTG. Maneuvers adds another layer of ranged defense, and Vengeance is great on teams when <censored> REALLY hits the fan. Not sure if you can afford the LOTG if you're losing 7.5% from dropping the Sniper blast.
That's all I've got. Swap WH for HF, add a little Ranged Def cushion ... should make things a little faster for damage and easier on defenses. -
Do you have any particular build goals that you want to meet? It sounds like your playstyle is primarily Hover / Ranged ...? Do you spend any time in melee with Bone Smasher / Total Focus?
-
Quote:I am interested in seeing your build!I do not have the fire epic so sure i get less end drain that way but i dont feel i need it between sleet and hotfeet. Combustion is becoming more and more a set mule.
I run Frozen Armor, Weave and only really turn off superspeed when i am against a single hard target solo. I run tough occasionally but i only have a steadfast in it until i respec.
Thought about doing /Ice to preserve S/L defense without sacrifices, but Rain of Fire looked too tantalizing. Dunno. -
Quote:Nothing wrong with dropping Bonfire if it pays off elsewhere!Alright, will see what I can do in Mids when I get back from work today. Quick question though, Imps aren't a problem since they can easily be worked in (4 slot 6.25% recharge heyooooo) but Bonfire is trickier. It's easily the first power on the chopping block for me, since while it can be slotted for recharge (KCs, Posis) those slots would be better used elsewhere.
It does do comparable damgae to Fireball, but bear in mind its got a cast time thats three times as long and does the damage over 45s. Anyway, let me know. I'll see what I can do.
FWIW, in my build, it was useful as a placeholder for 1.88% ranged defense from the Explosive Strike set. That's a handy set, and props to Obitus (I think) for slotting it in Kick of all things. Never would have thought of that.
The Imps were also handy for getting a 3.13% ranged def - two extra slots in Expedient Reinforcements.
As an aside ... not having Mids at works really sucks. Stupid corporate security. -
-
Current thinking on the ranged build. I sampled liberally from at least seven of the builds in this thread then sprinkled a bit of my playstyle into it.
Any and all feedback appreciated.

Quote:Build goals? Hmmmmmm.Philly pride.
Anyway, you're very gracious. This sort of peer review and revision seems to make all the difference. I'm sure we're all happy to have you along for the party; are there any particular goals you have in mind besides the ranged DEF? If you're willing to accept that Domination will have to be juggled with Hasten, we might even be able to get you up to the ranged soft cap.
(That would be very similar to my Mind/Fire/Fire build, though Mind has a slightly better spread of available set bonuses, so no promises until I get my grubby little hands on a Mids' equipped computer tonight.)
- 32.5% Ranged Def or higher
- 100%+ Global Recharge; 170%+ with Hasten running
- 75%+ Global Accuracy (basically enough to hit +4s with the Kismet unique - don't want to take / run Tactics)
- Acceptable recovery (I'll leave that nebulous ... generally other people have higher standards here than me)
- Would like to keep Bonfire and Imps in the build if possible if only for purely sentimental reasons (sniff, love those little guys)
I have a prelim build worked out in Excel, will plug it into Mids tonight, see how it looks.
Also, going to the game on Saturday night. -
I generally am of the opinion that builds aren't rocket science, but ... wow. These are awesome. I've been looking into respec'ing into /Fire for the Incarnate trials - /Mace is nice, but just doesn't offer enough to teams, IMO. Love the Tarantula, but the little guy's useless on teams, and the Imps are a borderline case.
This gave me a lot to think about, particularly the last builds from Obitus and Silas / Lifewind, which are world-class. I'm probably leaning more toward a 32.5% ranged build for playstyle issues. I just love blasting from a distance. Also avoids the end drain on Hot Feet, letting me run Musculature, which is nice for all the control powers that get underslotted for damage.
Definitely enjoyed reading the masters at work. -
-
That is one hell of an interesting build. I've been lazy, running /Mace for Scorpion Shield and PFF ... love me some PFF ... but that's really nice work.
I especially liked the Apoc Dam IO in Flares. That was a nice little ... "Didn't you hear me, I SAID *cost-no-object*!!!!!" -
Here's what I'm running at the moment (actually running Spiritual Core Paragon, not sure why this doesn't show up...).
Latest Pylon run was at 1:55 using Tier 3 Lore Pets, Tier 2 Reactive 25% -res, 50% fire proc.

Quote:Why the rush?Well actually, here's the deal. My 50 Earth/kin Controller Incarnate, Dr. Stonevault, has given me an ultimatum.
Either I give her an extended vacation away from baf-ing and lambda lounging or she'll destroy the incarnate powers I just recently finished crafting for her.
She can be a bit ornery at times.
So....here's the challenge:
I've got a level 44 Fire/Kin Corrupter Rogue. I need to take him up to level 50 so I can have something else to do besides encasing bad guys in rocks.
I've got Thursday, Saturday and Sunday night open this week, but after that the schedule looks pretty good.
Are ITF's and other TF's the best way to go to get there quickly?
Just askin.... -
