  2. when i first read the announcement about epics, i thought "why are they doing that?" But really, there is not much epic about them, aside from the story.

Sure, a kheld can shape shift, which is pretty awesome. But theyre hard(er) to play. And ive never played a VEAT, as sad as that is

Aside from the drama spewed from the OP, it WOULD be kinda cool to have an entire archetype unlocked for completing certain, extremely difficult tasks in game. Like getting all of the master badges hero/villainside. SWG, as the OP brought up, i beleive used to have something like this.

The problem is, i see NO, i repeat, NO way to implement that and have it be balanced. Plus, im sure it would create a lot of "I WANNA EPIC NAO!!!!" whining. still, better rewards for completing harder tasks would be a cool deal.

    my 2 cents

I think we have it. No details sadly but I'm excited! Although... not quite a nemesis from the sounds of it... but it's a start!
    wow! Good find!

I really hope that this is indeed the start of a personal nemesis system. I'm not expecting it to absolutely killer when first implemented, but hopefully thru threads like this eventualy a nemesis will be a reality!

Man, I really hope that's what they have in mind....

I say for balance sake; if it was to be implemented as a random spawn, running into an AV halfway through an arc or something would kinda through out any sort of plan. Not that thats a bad thing, but a tad too much. If you run into, say, a Ballista halfway through an arc, thats fairly standard (if nasty) fare. A random AV would be a whole different ballgame, especially with some of the sets they have acess too.

Either that, or lock them into being a certain AT. That way you dont get any Dark/Kin AVs, or some of the more broken combinations. All at player level stats and more, remember.
A valid point. As are the concerns about running into the nemesis' while on a team.

I definitely think that there only should ever be one players nemesis per mission while teamed. Honestly, I don't like the idea of having them randomly appear in team missions at all, but Thats probably because I just haven't thought too much of how to do it right.

I also don't think your nemesis should attack you outside, for no apparent reason either. At least not very often. If you are led into a trap, or were ambushed by some of his or her minions, that's a different story. But your personal nemesis shouldn't risk an open confrontation all the time, as that would get rather tedious, and would personally make me wonder how in the world he kept escaping jail time

And I definitely think that The at of your nemesis should be limited, a defender probably shouldn't have a tank as their arch enemy. Unless they really know what they're doing. Thus was kinda my idea with the point system, every time your unable to stop your nemesis, they Get stronger. Perhaps this could be tied to whatever crime they were commiting. Let him get away with a bank robbery, he gets more money and is able to fund more troops, turning him into a mastermind. Fail to prevent him from stealing an item of power, now his resistance to smashing/lethal goes up, making him a stronger tanker. (I hope this is making sense, I'm typing on my iPod ) a point system like this would let your nemesis evolve based directly on your actions, leaving you in total control (admittedly, I need to think more on this)

I'm not saying it would have to be exactly like CO's, in fact I don't even know exactly how CO's is set up... that's just my take on what I've read of it.

Don't get me wrong I love this game but am I really the only one that finds it predictable? I've only done one TF since I started (I honestly don't remember which one) and it was basically just a series of missions that were no different than the missions I'd done to get to whatever level I was at the time, I expected something really different. I'm sure I'll look to do more as I decide to go badge hunting but it just seemed like it was more of the same. I spent most of last weekend taking down AVs and while each had it's own different little quirks there was nothing that made them stand out from each other to make the fights more interesting.

I understand that MMOs are ALL guilty of repetition in some way, shape or form... but I have to say out of all the ones I've played CoX seems to be the most guilty. I'm sure I'll finish lvling my fire/fire blaster to 50 and maybe one or two more toons after that but I honestly don't understand what keeps some people lvling that 10th or 11th toon to 50.

The above is absolutely a contradiction to another post I made just yesterday about easily seeing myself playing CoX for another 3 years (4 seems to be when I get "burnt out") but the more I think about it I don't know what could keep me playing that long.

Radubadu's desire for randomness in implementation brings up another point. I realize this is a seeming contradiction, but I want to be able to control the randomness. How about a contact similar to the contact that allows you to set your difficulty, where they ask you the following questions at any time:

    1. Do you want to change the appearance/gender/powersets/dialog of your Arch Nemesis? Yes/No (Selecting "yes" would take you to a character creation screen)
    2. Do you want your Arch Nemesis to attack you randomly in missions? Yes/No
    3. Do you want your Arch Nemesis to attack you randomly while on teams? Yes/No
    4. Do you want your Arch Nemesis to randomly ambush you while outside of mission instances? Yes/No

    And so on.

Being attacked at random by an Arch Nemesis is fun...if that's what you want at the time, on that particular character. Being able to control the degree of randomness would keep it fun AND prevent it from becoming a major PITA when you want consistancy. If I don't really want an Arch Nemesis for a particular character, having one that pops up randomly would be like having an annoying cousin that keeps popping over at your house for dinner. And as always, customization is key, and tweaking your Arch Nemesis should be encouraged at any point in your character's development.

Otherwise, this feature would get on my nerves pretty quickly. Do it right, or don't bother--half baked implementation would make using the AE as an alternative much more attractive.
    ^both of these

AE is a great way to create pretty much whatever you want in game. But a nemesis arc created by you would have *zero* personal impact on how you play the game. Im talking about having an entity lurking in the shadows or out to get you whenever you play, should you so desire it.

Should you be able to control every aspect of it? absolutley, as this is one thing this game does really well. as i said before, i dont wanna see my nemesis but once every few levels. But when i do, it needs to be a big deal.

I also had another idea on how this could be implemented. Rather than having a contact or making your nemesis origin specific, what if you had to complete or participate in an event to unlock this feature, if you wanted to? A week or so ago i read a post on here about a break out event at the zig. Well, suppose your nemesis came from completing the event. The storyline could be something like "you defeated x number of villains, who were actually working for this guy (your nemesis) and now he's out for blood" After you unlock this feature, maybe there would be a ppd contact who "needs a description of this new supervillain, as you've heard him described by others (your nemesis)" and doing that for him would launch you into the character creator, where you would flesh out the looks and behavior.

Adding a couple of options as to how much you want to see him/her/it wouldn't be hard to stick in with the existing field analyst options.

Just a few (hopefully not half baked) ideas
  9. I stopped when i read the description of what you meant by fashion architect and said "ooo"

    Fantastic idea

this could really add to the immersiveness of AE arcs. I will take it a step further and say that we should have this added to the creation system, in other words, let an arc designer create an costume that you wear inside the mish, if you choose to. Could be used for things like "here, strap on this device, it'll protect you"

    My two cents

I also want to decide if it's a single entity or a group. Or both.

After seeing what the AE can do, I'd want to see that kind of flexibility in any sort of nemesis system. If it didn't let me customize my foe(s) exactly as I wanted them to be, then it wouldn't be worth dealing with for me and would look half-done compared to everything else we're allowed to customize.
    agreed. totally.

And also, dont get me wrong, i really wanna see GR shine when it launches as well (i think all the devs are too busy working on it to read much of the forums atm anyways )

And for Tankers, Defenders, Blasters, and Dominators, a lot of attack/assault/manipulation sets have rather weak first powers that just don't stay in your chain at high levels. The simple issue is, we've got one power we're absolutely required to take, and it's just randomly annoying. Are we calling this a major balance issue between sets? If so, then sets with a weaker first attack should be significantly better on Brutes/Scrappers/Blasters than on Tanks/Defenders who are forced to take the same power first. Instead, it's more of an annoyance than anything else. That Jab or Beheader you didn't want to take (neither are used in ideal attack chains for their sets) doesn't really do much to make you worse at attacking, it just makes you sacrifice something you didn't want to sacrifice. And it's not even balanced well because the elec guy was totally planning to use Charged Brawl because it's awesome.

So are we saying here that Super Strength and Battleaxe need to be weakened on tanks because they're too good? Or are we saying that they're accidentally weakened by the system? If it's the former, well, that's fine, but I never thought Battleaxe was that overpowered, and didn't think SS was until Shield came out, long long after the system was implemented. If it's the latter, why not fix that part of the system to give a bit more strength to secondaries that are accidentally gimped by this characteristic?

I would like missions that are more defensive in nature. The design seems to be more difficult though. For example, the respec trial is quite boring now as the assault waves are far apart, and we are basically monitoring the doors to ambush the assault.

I like every hero/villian you make to have a nemeisis hunting you down. They could ambursh you when you less expect it. It will be so cool. MA seem to have only farmers now.

ok, after re reading what i posted, yeah, that was deserved

i suppose you can do most of those things, besides your actions having a direct impact on your nemesis.

But what im suggesting is an actual entity that interacts with you throughout the game. AE is simply you creating a video game for you to go and play. On a personal level, it ends there. This idea is beyond the scope of what AE can EVER offer. I admit, i was wrong in my previous post, it is possible to create a "nemesis" in AE, but it is severely limited
  18. i also think that for every 100th or so slap, sally should go berserk and rampage through croatoa

I think they should add a dialogue - "oh no, not again"

I mean no direspect, but you really cant

    in AE, you cannot PERSONALLY:

    - decide what your nemesis will look like, what archetype, what powerset they will have. The arc creator does this for you

    - interact with your nemesis throughout your hero/villains's career

    - decide, through your actions, how strong your nemesis will become, since the missions are set in stone and there are no options for an alternate arc if you fail a mission in AE (that i know of, correct me if im wrong )

I had in mind something more grand than you can create in an AE mission. think batman/joker or fantastic 4/dr doom, spiderman/venom, superman/lex luther. Im suggesting someone that your character is personally involved with. Maybe they have some sort of vendetta against them for past crimes, or for screwing up there plans (as those pesky heroes always do)

I just think, its SUCH a big part of superhero lore, that it seems like a big thing to leave out of the game. and, with all due respect, AE just doesn't cut it as a medium for that sort of thing

    An Arch Nemesis

So, ive never played champions online, and probly never will, i love coh too much

Occasionally tho, ive picked up the box to look, and one thing i really do like about it is the ability to create and name your Arch Nemesis, and have them appear randomly throughout the game. At least thats how i interpret how it works (like i said ive never played it) How cool would it be to have an addition to the costume creator where you created your arch nemesis' appearance and then interacted with them throughout the storyline of coh? nearly EVERY comic hero has one, and i feel its an important aspect.

How would it work? i propose these ideas

    1. Introduction to your nemesis

Comic arch nemesis' seem to always have something in common to the hero, and vice versa. So, give every player who wants to a mission in the early levels (10-15?) that is origin specific. this mission would give a brief story of how the two met, Mutant, for example - Hero-x is sent on a mission to raid an troll base. the trolls have stolen some powerful item that gives them the ability to er...um...see into the future, how bout that. you fight thru the mobs, only to discover your arch nemesis preparing to steal the item for himself. And it would work the same for villains. a lot of "you'll never catch me" and "you pathetic weakling hero" ensues, ending in the arch nemesis maybe teleporting out (like the rikti in the new cape mission) or going to jail, only to break out again for further encounters

    2. Slow escalation of plotline

you wouldnt see your nemesis for once but every 3 or so levels. And each time he or she appeared, they would be stronger. Slightly less so than you, so you can have a fighting chance. We don't want you facing an AV every few levels in the lower levels. Slowly, your nemesis would get stronger and stronger until, at 50 they were at AV status, and you would need a team to take them down. Every time you faced your nemesis, also, he or she would be trying to accomplish their own ends, like further their empire, increase their power, stuff like that. until that final fight, where you put them away/defeat them permanently/suck them into an alternate universe...i dunno. you get the point

    3. a point system

perhaps there needs to be a point system implemented so that you can control how much your nemesis grows in power, example: "Hero-x! Nemesis-x has been spotted trying to raid a crey lab in possession of powerful items that will expand his abilities exponentially" >>this mission will grant your nemesis 10 points to his overall power unless you defeat him<< if you let it go, he get more powerful. make this a timed mish with a shorter duration, perhaps 30 mins.

    4. Things needed to make this work

    - the nemesis designer needs to mimic the hero/villain designer. You need to be able to choose what archtype and powerset your nemesis will be (or perhaps limit it to 2 or three possiblilities from each category to increase the surprise value)

    - there probably needs to be a way for this to be optional, as not everyone will see it as totally and undeniably epic

    - and as always, there needs to be a want for it from all of you i have a lot of things that i think would be cool in the game, but most of them will stay in my head, haha

    5. Potential problems

    - legal stuff. I think at least one of the coh creators left to go work on champions, so i dont know if there are any contractual things standing in the way of this, as i think its a pretty big part of champions

    - writing time. were looking at probably 50 different missions that would need to be written, considering all the origin specific stuff, and the missions throughout the time you are leveling up

    - Code. can the existing engine easily accomodate you bumping into your nemesis that frequently? im pretty sure it can, but i dont know much about that stuff.

And im sure there are others

Please, tell me what you think of this.
