Not sure what resolution you are going to be running at, but I've got the same CPU on a P8P67 Deluxe here and it seems OK.
My current video card I'm not so happy with (5970...no crossfire for this game) so I'm looking to swap to a GTX580 or SLI 570 as well.
Copper Block SLI 580 kit was just announced for $1729...that's probably not gonna happen.

Quote:When I said dual 590s I meant a total of 4 GPUs in a 2x2 config. After reading the reviews of the 590 it looks like they had to seriously underclock them to meet the thermal and power load considerations of a single card. The GTX590 is nothing more than two seriously underclocked 580's, and at your resolution levels it really suffers from the lower amount of RAM and lower clock rates when compared to the 6990 (lol except for that whole Crossfire boondoggle).
I wish Paragon Studios and AMD/ATI would get their heads together and do something about CrossfireI have a 2gb ASUS Matrix waiting to be Xfired, or just simply trading up the one I have now for a 6990. I laugh every time I open up Catalyst Control Center and see an advertisement for Going Rogue. Seriously, if AMD is going to pimp this game, shouldn't their flagship "fastest gfx card in the world" actually work on said game? *rolleyes*
Hopefully some others here who are currently using a SLI setup can comment on the performance gains they've seen out of it.
The only sense the 590 makes is to stuff your PC full of them and hope the SLI scaling makes it worth it. I'd do that if it worked well with 3x2560x1600. -
So I think I'm going to give up hope waiting for AMD/ATi and Paragon Studios to get their act together with regards to Crossfire support.
I've got a 5970 that's half unused and has been inferior to the 5870 for this game until I overclocked/overvolted it.
I've been waiting for any type of information regarding Crossfire support and Eyefinity fixes (for camdist) but it looks like there is a typical wall of silence.
Of course the driver builds for CoH have been less than stellar from AMD since there have been crashes and most people are stuck using 10.8 Catalyst when the following builds haven't addressed any of the outstanding issues (at 11.4 preview currently).
So instead of going to a 6970, which probably doesn't get me much better performance, I'm thinking of going back to Nvidia (had a GTX280) this time. A 6990 would just be hitting myself harder over the head instead of the 5970.
About the only thing that I like more about the ATi currently is that I can get a 2GB card (per GPU) vs. the 1536MB per GPU that Nvidia is providing for anti-aliasing.
So my dilemma is should I go with a single GTX580, sli GTX570s or is it worth it to even try (dual) GTX 590 (or tri GTX580s). Not sure what SLI efficiency like is in this game at the resolutions I'm interested in. Does SLI even function in windowed mode in CoH or is it full screen only?
My target resolution is 2520x1500 4x AA and I'm looking to have all the ultra settings maxed out if possible. The box is a Core i7 2600k @4.5GHz/8GB/SSD so there's not much more to go currently to eliminate any bottlenecks with a good card. -
Sounds like a memory leak to me.
Best thing to do now is to start pruning things out of your AE mission to find out where the problem element or interaction is.
It could be a damaged save file or preference causing the leak, or if it isn't, seeing if other people here can replicate it will be a big help in letting a red name know so it can be fixed. -
Quote:That is a very good question. Common wisdom suggests that acquiring new customers costs a fair bit of money, while keeping and maintaining existing customers costs a lot less. What is the difference between bringing in new customers and preventing the existing customers from leaving the game?
If one new customer comes in, and one old one leaves, how are the Devs making a profit?
One would therefore presume that making your existing customer base happy is a greater priority than getting new ones. -
Quote:It is likely your airflow was being blocked somewhere. This can cause thermal spikes leading to instability or shutdown (for protection or by actual damage being caused).Weird. The only thing I did was blow out the dust and run some virus scans.
I'd get in there again just to check and blow out the power supply vents and make sure the video card thermal paths (if enclosed) are well cleared, and CPU/Northbridge as well.
(For everyone else): You should use cans of compressed air ideally. Don't use a vacuum without a grounded tip. -
Just looking at my CoH install folder and it's around 4GB in itself, so even with 8GB of total RAM it would be very tight to get everything you want into a RAMdisk and have the system running optimally.
I think you'd need at least 12GB of RAM to have a 5-6GB RAMdisk and the rest for running CoH and Windows with a browser and email client going.
At that point the SSD probably makes better sense. -

Quote:Don't forget to warn people that changing alignments wipes out any Hero or Villain merits that they currently possess, so don't change alignment unless all their alignment merits are spent first. As long as you are not changing your alignment you get some sort of merit reward.
Hero/Villain:
1st Morality Mission = 50 reward merits
2nd+ Morality Missions = 1 Alignment Merit
Rogue/Vigilante:
1st Morality Mission changes your alignment
2nd Morality Mission confirming your current alignment = 30 reward merits
3rd+ Morality Missions = 60 reward merits -
does /unloadgfx do nothing?
turning down settings change anything? -
Doesn't everyone have a custom butt tattoo?
I have been thinking things over about base construction, AE and PvP.
In order to get more use out of things the devs should tie them all in so they can be complementary instead of silos.
IOW, base building should be available as maps in AE so you can make an entirely custom map for a mission or arena, and that you can PvP inside AE as well.
That's all I've got to say about base building. -
Quote:I'd think that the booster would be for base designers and everyone could use the results. One reason why this won't happen.
Bases are, ostensibly a COMMUNITY resource. Adding all sorts of *schwing!* in there for a booster? How do people who don't use the booster use the stuff? How do they perceive this stuff if they can't use it? If one guy buys it is it good for everyone in the SG? Or do you have people without it become second class citizens?
Just like custom costume parts can be seen by every player but only the purchaser can put it on their toon. -
I bet that key people involved in base building coding are no longer there, making it difficult to easily update base construction.

Quote:Any legal settlement would be between NCSoft/Cryptic and Marvel. A third party is not bound by the settlement, especially if it is for *personal* use.City Of Heroes Character Generator application (Korea) files are dated 09/07/2008 (9th July). CCC_Setup.exe.
There was also a Registry hack that changed the text from Korean to English.
As this data is FREELY available via Google searches I have no problem posting it here
Google is your friend.
But back to the topic at hand. If the legal people say that NCSoft are not allowed for whatever reason it doesnt matter WHAT the reason is - it is illegal.
Whether a non-NCSoft person does it (like Mids) is also covered by that well thats not for me to say. Maybe emailing NCSoft asking if it is legal for someone to develop a Costume designer?
This is why the artwork could never be repackaged and *distributed* by a third party, but tools could be used for such purposes, as long as they did not violate other laws that were designed to enhance copyright, like the DMCA in the United States.
This is why the original pigg diving tools were totally legal, but individuals who used it may have violated the Terms of Service, but not necessarily copyright law.
IE, making a 'doll dressing' app would not be illegal. Extracting and putting the textures from this game into that app would not be illegal, although it might not be kosher under the ToS. Redistributing the final rolled up bundle would violate NCSoft/Paragon Studio's/Crytic's copyrights. -

You misunderstand me. The badges artwork are already being used outside of the city of heroes game in many third party tools such as Mid's and on the websites of the other tools.
How is this different? Just because you said so?
The other people who have supported the free developments are well known to the devs, and they've continued to support them even though the devs have the full and final option of saying 'no'.
Your supposition of mods being in game are also covered in the ToS as well. They aren't technically allowed either, with the same penalties that you stipulate as well.
Shrug away. Your sell-able via third parties makes no sense at all. The app store model is even more locked down than a windows application like mid's. Straw man is straw man. -
Quote:Why would you sell it? Theoretically you could sell access to paragon wiki or the like as well, but no one has proposed trying to profit off of it.Wow talk about skating on thin legal ice there.
The Devs have tolerated reverse engineering of their code for things like modding out annoying sounds from the game and updating the in-game maps with badge information. But none of those "fan-based creations" ever existed outside the game and certainly never entered an arena that could potentially be sold for actual money.
The idea of a fan-engineered costume editor for CoH that was ported to the "app" world of handheld devices sounds all kinds of illegal to me for all sorts of reasons.
It would be on the same level as badge-hunter...much of the same artwork is taken from the game and it has the same legal and ToS issues as a costume interpreter. -
Sorry to hear that your interest in the game has waned, WN.
This is an interesting thread for sure, but I just decided to look at it now.
Why? Because MA isn't that interesting for me now for a variety of reasons. I'd go into that but that is a separate discussion entirely.
Lowering the requirements is an interesting idea, but it goes counter to what the devs originally wanted, I'd bet. They want people to play it more instead of lowering the requirements to a (sane) certain level. For them it would be an admission of defeat. (I say suck it up and fix the damn thing.)
The rating system needs to be revamped for HoF and DC etc., but so does the entire MA UI. Changing the rating part of it in itself would just be putting a band-aid on a gaping wound.
But to think that something will change because it is minor change is very hit-or-miss. Look at the base builders and PvP sections of the forums and you'll see the same types of issues, many long standing too. -
Because I like having perma stealth with a celerity proc in swift.
-
Technically there isn't anything preventing a fan creation of the same type of thing, where one could make a costume creator that pulled all the relevant costumes out of the CoH files, and then synced them into an iPod/iPhone/iPad app.
It would avoid any legal issues that Crytic had with Marvel, and also any current issues since the end user would be doing any extraction of data and placing into their own handheld. -
Doesn't happen to me all the time but it has happened before.
We call it groundhog day. Means that as a minimum the 'leader' has to log out and back in to force the star to be passed. In extreme cases everyone logs out and back in.
Seems to us the symptom is that the mish is repeated along with the identical map, and the leader didn't have to call it in to receive the repeated mission. Also calling the contact doesn't seem to do anything for the leader.
Seems to be triggered by someone quitting the task force. Not sure what other conditions must be met for the problem to happen (ie. different zone or before/after the mission has been set etc. or rogues/vigilantes being on a team). -
Quote:Just remember that they've tried to alter this by having tp force a deselect on the target to minimize the chance of stacking. Not sure if they've fixed it but you can have more than one person que up Vengence and then tp the dead body. We've used double vengence during LRSF before.
IE., it used to be possible to select the dead body (from far away), have everyone queue up vengeance, then tp the person and have multi stacked vengeance.
Now it is a little trickier since the act of accepting a tp will make anyone selecting the (dead) tp'd person to lose that selection.
However that doesn't mean that you can't instantly select the person with vengeance on auto to have it stack. Also in normal play, I've seen people use vengeance and triple stack just because someone face plants during a tough fight.
Is it an exploit? Not sure since it can happen during normal play. The devs just made it harder to automagically have it happen when players deliberately try to stack veng.
As to the OP, you can't have vengeance stack from the same caster because the window of opportunity to stack isn't going to get you double. So theoretically yes, but it will never happen.
