For me the ultimate in character evolution was the Robots/Storm mastermind. Fear my gale, for you shall receive many energy blasts in places that standing foes do not.

I can foresee that having shields and a targettable heal would be greatly beneficial with the AD/HD assassins. I might have to give that a whirl, too. I have a low ninja/FF but the thermal gets some flavor to it.
-
Two Cold/Ices should be illegal in most states for being extra uber.
-
-
It should always be remembered that you can go solo vs team build with your alternate build that is available at level 10. Have your ice shields and eat them, too.
-
sorry Hindy, I can't get my head around a build with Blizzard and Ice Storm as the last two powers unless its purely a level 50 toon.
-
The four minute buffing isn't so bad, adding the forge buff... mmmm double forged knights, maybe even a forge for the spirit :P. That said, its better than straight forcefield since you have more to do! Add cauterize and warmth to the mix you could be a very clicky MM.

It's open beta, baby...
Ok, who is with me in anticipation of cooking the undead? -
While corruptor builds with Sonic Blast and Cold Domination frequently were built especially for PvP situations, a Cold Domination defender in conventional situations would be considered 'less defendery' without the shields. It's your $15 a month to play as you like, but the bottom line is that cold shields will protect your teammates from more damage than a sonic blast defender can put out.
Shriek, Scream, and Howl are really standard while the others can all be optional depending on taste. There is analysis done that a tight attack chain with shriek, scream, and howl has a higher dps than an attack chain including shout. I take shout because I am not as immersed in my attack chain as some, and when shout is up I shout away. Amplify is good, probably better than just questionable. I really like screech when you just have to take one guy out of commission like a raider engineer of the skyraiders. I like nukes on most of my defenders, especially sonic, forcefield and cold defenders since the shields don't drop when the endurance crashes. Shockwave is cone knockback. Some people hate it, some love it. Siren's Song is beautiful while soloing, but less effective on teams or where AoE you don't control wakes the sleepers.
Take the shields, take enough blasts to keep you busy. Cold/sonic is a very successful combination. -
The current version of Mids does not support the 60 month veteran benefit of 2nd tier travel powers available at level 6. I get by this by putting tp foe, flurry, or jump kick instead of the travel power since I don't usually take those powers anyway. I look forward to the continued maintenance of this fabulous tool.

Arctic Fog is a nice sized stealth power. Having Grant Invisibility would not be paramount in my opinion. I am a fan of charged armor - smashing, lethal, and energy resist. A lot of attacks come under the umbrella of energy.
I like the build without fighting better in my own opinion. I took freeze ray on my Cold/Ice and for the life of me, I can't see what is in the build to replace to take it other than leadership... -
You can minimize aggro with the line of site, and sleet leading off reduces aggro by the knockdown feature.

Quote:I am a staunch supporter of playing of mostly defender/support/mastermind characters. Dark miasma is one of my favorites. I saw a post about the fun of Dark/Ice, and at first I couldn't wrap my head around the synergy. There is something really subtle about how ice debuffs speed and the other dark goodness work together.Hmm. Both Dark/Ice and Kin/Ice do seem like nice combinations, and I already have a character concept for both. Guess I'll flip on it.
I wouldn't mind more suggestions, though, as I'm a bit of a Defender junkie and I could always use a reason to make another alt. :P
My single theme in levelling up, I took all the Dark 'click' powers before stamina, and all the toggles after. That is a bit of heresy with some folks with taking darkest night so late, but for the endurance issues, it worked for me. Tar Patch, Howling Twilight and Fearsome Stare are really that good. I also seemed to have more time to 'spam' Twilight Grasp, not really spamming since there is hefty debuff goodness in that green machine.
Take Aim from Ice Blast for when that Twilight Grasp just can't miss. -
Quote:Ice storm and sleet can be up reasonably for every group. Blizzard is a nuke and will take longer to recharge, but that's ok since some groups are spread all over, or there aren't really spawns 'nuke worthy'; good old sleet and ice storm will do fine. Both builds look pretty good but I think you are right, the recharge build looks stronger. Hopefully I can keep ice storm/blizzard/sleet up near constantly
Once you get sleet, you will want to lead off with that on the well-clumped groups or as many as you can hit since it: a) knocks them on their butt b) debuff defense and resistance c)slows the group from fleeing. -
A cold/ice and for that matter a storm/ice needs the triple entente of Ice Storm, Sleet/Freezing Rain, and Blizzard. Endless death by DoT. DoTs that can be activated from a position with no line of sight.

Ok, I will be nice since you say he's lowbie. First after level 10, you can have a PvP and a PvE build both, so you might save your purple enhancement eggs for that PvP basket. Next, I wouldn't take TP foe or challenge on a dark defender. Some mastermind's need to get ranged aggro early, but you can p-o a lot of foes with good old darkest night. Third, I would take Howling Twilight and Darkest Night as soon as they become available. I would take Darkest Night before Stamina; you will use less end if it takes less time to kill foes. Last, Dark Servant needs maximum enhancement for -tohit debuff. He is a debuffing machine. Even his heal debuffs accuracy.
I am in agreement with the other replies, this is my 2 cents to add to. -
First thing, you say 3 years ago, I wonder if that was before or after the bodyguard feature arrived. It's best for your health to have the minions set on Follow/Defensive. They will shoot anything that looks funny at you after you lead with envenom *my preference*. Bodyguard mode also tends to restrain them from going apesical on anything in LoS. As mention by previous posters, your powers will double their enhanced amount with single origin enhancers. Level 23 is more enhancers which I suggest to put in your pets. They can stand more damage and accuracy.
More slotting nitpicks: you would be healthier putting the last two slots in health in other powers. Weakness could stand more accuracy when you can afford it. Gang War begs for 3 slots of recharge reduction. It's an uber power, almost a game breaker. You get a cloud of minions who each have single target attacks which contain a provoke part in them so that eveything hitting you mostly likely will be hitting them instead.
Remember, level 24 is the bonus round when your second enforcer arrives; that is a BIG BOOST to the thug experience. You are on track just keep on being persistent. -
very much so. My night widow has 4 of the def/rech IO enhancements for maximizing the defense and recharge of the power.
-
It is one of the longer recharges. My masterminds usually have hasten, for howling twilight/tar patch, noxious gas, gang war, and so on. Hasten is good for recharge of the pet summons, too. If you have ninjas, I am sure you know what I mean.

Quote:Storm/Dark has a lot of potential. Storm is a beast in PvE. It's one of the few defender sets that can perform almost autonomously, self-reliant, but teammate buffs, bubbles, shields, and damage mitigation is always welcome. If you want to build a perfect team, start with a Storm/*, Dark/*, and a FF/*. That's what I call the MC Hammer team: Can't Touch This. Not having ever played with either set, I'm SURE I'm missing a few nice powers of the sets could someone please look over my build choices and see if they are solid power choices, or if I'm misisng something really obvious?

The slotting levels may not be right, but I can adjust that later.. I would like to be a nice support character for our SG, and able do do a bit of PVP.. Saying that, I would still like to do lots of mayham and destruciton in our PvE runs we do often..
Any opinions?
For any stormy build, the must have powers prior to Stamina at level 20 would be: O2, Freezing Rain, and Hurricane. Any of the other storm powers available can rationalized to be delayed until after stamina, but they don't have to be. I frequently toggle between steamy mist and hurricane on characters prior to stamina for the stealth and tohit debuff aspects. Gale in recent years has become more valuable to me, especially on masterminds.
I would put in O2 for Moonbeam *edit* see below, and Thunderclap for Torrent. Thunderclap is the AoE stun you need to stack with dark pit. It's not a bad combo. Let's see, there would be some rearranging to get stamina at 22 at the latest and hurricane really can help at level 12! By the way, you really need 4 solid slots for hurricane to be effective as a tohit debuff tool.

I must admit this is a tighter build than I recalled. I tried to stick with some of the highlights of the OP theme with dark pit stun and the desire for AoE KB. For me personally it would come down to switching O2 for gale earlier and maybe swapping Tornado for Thunderclap. Tornado does stun, too. Tornado is also more likely to hit and is the BEST oh crap button in the stormy arsenal. This build is also predicated on the fact that the player would get flight packs and jump packs from the Safeguard missions available at level 5 in Kings Row. -
Quote:The Dark Servant is huge just by merit of Chill of the Night, the point blank AoE debuff around him that makes him and nearby allies nearly untouchable - 30% base tohit debuff. That's big. All of his at range mezzing and debuffing has tohit debuff in there, too, for extra 'missing' goodness. It all seems fine all around, but I'd think about changing your IOing in dark servant. It's not providing good bonuses for you, and it's got a hefty downtime unless hasten is up. You want that little guy up as much as possible, so slotting 4 clouded senses in there(focusing on the tohit-debuff/recharge aspect of the set) and then having 2 slots to suit to taste is a good idea.
his mezzes are handy, but they're not nearly as potent or valuable as his massive debuffing potential. -
Self buffing is what my mother told me caused blindness.

Could someone please post the screenie for the Singsangsong.jpg that had the biography there. This post won't be complete without deth kiks.
