lol one of my 6 50s is a Fire/Psi Kheldarn
. I'm thinking of somehow altering Psychic Fury or Psychic Disruptor and using that. Grrr.....I think I've seen me playing him in the future....his name's right on the tip of my tongue lol
. Hmm, Dreamer and Cognitive too.
Idk if I'd call the Mind/Psi FotM, but I've seen them around a bunch lately. I wish I could make the mind/psi mind/psi/psy, but they just made Ice Mastery too good, and on Dom's even better than controllers.(I actually tried looking into making PG mind/ff/psy, I like the look/concept of worldofconfusion & psy tornado, but icestorm, frozen armor and hibernate are just so much better numberwise
)
Hyper I did that with Psychic Striker. He was "Psychic Blaster" in i12 open beta hahahaa XD. -
I've had a lot of fun over the past couple years creating "New PGs" on Guardian; copies of his character/costume/powercustomization(where applicable) into new toons with different combo's of psychic powersets.
So far I have:
Psychic Guardian (Mind/FF/Ice Controller)
Psychic Striker (PsyBlast/MM Blaster)
Psychic Assailant (Mind/EM Dominator)
I've decided (and planned out in a Mids) I want to try the increasingly popular Mind/Psy Dom. I have everything all ready, except a name lol.
So I thought I would come ask Guardian for help. If you haven't guessed I like the naming pattern of Psychic _____
. Hopefully an offense-style adjective, without sounding too hostile, since he's a hero in the isles*.
So does anyone wanna offer any ideas? I've been through thesaurus' etc, I had a hard time finding Assailant when I made him as it is lol, now I need another adjective.
*I know with GR I can make him a full hero. But give up the villain alignment Frenzy aka Insta-Dom?? No wai -
If you noticed the CPU bump post i20 its probably because the game now utilizes "multicore" systems, so if you have a dual/quad/hex core processor the game can tap into them now.
I have a dualcore and noticed the spike in cpu usage right away after launching i20 coh, I kinda wish I could turn it off, my computer is 5+ years old, and after a few hours of playing will sometimes die(turn itself off with no error) now. I'm not the best with processor&ram info, but the high cpu seems to cause coh's ram usage to rise too, making me run with less things open to prevent pcdeath lately lol. /unloadgfx used to help sometimes, but now I try it so often my ram use goes down 5-10% when I hit enter, then climbs right back to where it was as it re-renders everything in view. -
I've heard it's useful for putting together random PuG trials, but where it cant be used in missions or anywhere else idk how.
Everytime I was invited to a trial for like the first 3 days after i20 when I used the queue feature the first thing the leader would say was "drop from the queue so I can add you", never understood it's purpose.
I also am extremely dissatisfied with "Leagues". Yes being able to join in-progress trials, or fill a spot from someone who leaves is nice, but members not being "locked in"; aka they don't register as a member of the group when they DC....especially on such DC-inducing events was a crucial design flaw imo. I already had to petition once that I missed the rewardstable of a trial I participated in from formation to the final AV fight. (They were able to see I deserved rewards, but they picked an item from a table manually and gave it to me. When the game doesn't screw up you get a choice of what to pick, it's not really fair you get something random from the random table when the game doesn't work as intended and you have to petition for it.) -
Ive been trying all day and also can't get a character to copy

WOOT IT's an MMO Miracle!!
My PC managed to get SP3 installed without trashing itself and i'm in-game again -
From what I've read in the various posts about this issue apparently xp sp3 is now required because as of i20 the game supports the use of multi-core CPUs. In order to activate them it has to scan your pc and determine how many cpu cores you actually have.
The command to analyze your processor isn't supported below xp sp3, so it now gives us that error and kicks us out.
For the first time since 2005 I have spent the past 4 hours backing up my harddrive, and my PC is attempting to install servicepack3 as I type this(from my blackberry, which isn't too fun lol) -
As stated in another thread, and happened to me personally; Upgrading to SP3 has a high chance to corrupt your entire OS and break windows so you can't even boot anymore.
Then there's reasons techies (who are the majority of people on XP, because they keep it for a reason) have, like security loopholes or whatever. -
I doubt anyone can help me with the problem i'm likely about to face later tonight after attempting this !@#$@#$ SP3 over again, especially since the PC will be whining "Windows failed to start." and I wont be able to access the boards anyway
-
My laptop running XP SP2 is a dualcore from '05 haha. it's the laptop's GFX card holding back my game, not the core usage.
Hm, if that's it's purpose, they could at least hide it in the options of the NCSoft Launcher to disable. I'd happily run my 1core than 0 -
It's a windows controlfreak issue with file permissions. Since I'm on windows XP(and now unable to play the game with no fix available at all, tyvm devs), I don't know the specifics. But your question was answered mixed in this thread somewhere along with the winXP problem:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=257008 -
Yes. The devs did indeed heartlessly kick it's windows XP players out the door, assuming the players have a specific reason they won't get SP3(like me). Or drop money for a shiny new windows7 pc.
I cannot play thanks to issue 20. Anyone asking about this kernell error also won't be able to, unless you can easily upgrade to ServicePack3 -
Quote:Issue 20=Doom for us Windows XP playersHello all, i could use a little help.
I just finnished the i20 update and i get this promp when i try to start up Coh.
Cityofheroes.exe-Entry point not found
The procedure information could not be located in the dynamic link library
KERNEL.dll.
I have checked and rechecked all game files with no luck
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=257008
(ServicePack3 is now required to play the game.) -
Quote:You go to your CoH install folder (like C:\program files\city of heroes) and use(or make a shortcut to) "old.cohupdater.exe". I just found it this afternoon. You can also uninstall the NCSoft Launcher if you want. Are there instructions somewhere on using the legacy launcher?
Unfortunately it didn't fix my issue (XP servicepack crap) -
Quote:Several of US can't update. For me it causes me to wipe my OS to resume use of the PC. It's not like it's a giant super-cool system they added to the game making it obsolete either. It's a stupid processor speed snoop. The game ran fine without that kernell32.dll being looked for yesterday. I don't see why it's so important they throw so many players out the door with it today. If they add OS specific code, that has a purpose to an in-game feature, then, maybe, it would be understandable. But doing it for the sake of doing it is dumb.If they're not going to update, then they're not fellow players any more. That's a choice they're making. You can't expect the devs to continue to support obsolete OS's forever.
Buying an entire new PC, which is budget-wise impossible for me, to continue playing a $15/month game is crazy. But I've been here 3 years, and not really ready to walk away yet. They shouldn't be making the choice for me. -
I found the old updater. After installing the NCcrapware it makes cohupdater.exe summon the nclauncher, and creates another exe in the C:\program files directory named old.cohupdater.exe. I have it running now. Strange how I downloaded/applied Issue 20 with the NCLauncher and the old launcher is now "fixing files"
. I'll edit this post/reply to the thread when it finishes patching with whether or not the game can now launch.
Edit: The old launcher gives the same error when you accept the EULA to start the game, the XP breaking code was added to the game itself, not that NCLauncher.
Issue 20=worst one I've seen released. There are like 5 thread's on this issue, and everyone with the error has a reason they have SP2 instead of 3. Hopefully this will be changed, otherwise I'm locked out of CoH for a minimum of 5-6 months. -
Quote:I really wasn't sure about the CPU thing, just saying from my current knowledge(prior to your post) it seemed like an unnecessary check was responsible for locking me out of my only PC Game. That's simply silly. The game uses GetLogicalProcessorInformation() to find out information about the processors/cores makeup of your computer, i.e. which cores are on a single processor, how many processors you have, and how many cores- this is important to know for threading, and making the game FASTER and MORE RESPONSIVE. It's not like they're looking through your address book, no need for totally misplaced paranoia.
Quote:Sounds like the driver is 100% to blame, not in any way NCSoft/NCLauncher/CoH. I'd suggest uninstalling the driver, then trying to upgrade to SP3, and then finding the latest version of the driver (not some crappy ancient one that came with the system), and installing THAT. If it's for an unused piece of hardware... just leave it gone.)
Quote:Cohupdater.exe IS the old launcher! Just make a shortcut to it, or use your old shortcut to it, you can have both installed at once
Quote:And that's not like it's going to fix your problem... Your problem is:
1) A crappy driver (update it!)
2) Refusing to upgrade to a 3 year old Service Pack (FYI, even Microsoft has already dropped support for you!)
3) Those damn space pirates.
4) ???
5) Profit!lol.

Quote:Your issue is related to all the "security" measures the crap that windows vista/7 comes with. The Spad's post above my last one give's instructions that I believe will fix your issue. (Copying and pasting the files he named from C:\program files(x86)\ to the desktop and clicking them there)ok this is more pain than its worth! Im not a puter expert all i want to do is log onto the game and be able to play! I hate this new launcher.....why do I have to go through all this crap! Yes i am getting very pissed off about this. Im paid up for 3 months and cant log on the stupid thing! Give me a SIMPLE fix!
BTW, Im on windows 7. I have had to uninstal the launcher and then reinstal it 3 times now.....come on. Give me a break here.... -
I also am on Windows XP SP2. Upgrading to SP3 corrupts a driver of my laptop, which corrupts the OS, I have to restore the OS from the recovery partition when this happens, which restores back to SP2, etc etc.
I am not destroying my OS again for the game. Can someone post detailed instructions of removing the NCSoft Launcher and instructing Cohupdater.exe to use the old launcher instead of queue the NCSoftLauncher to launch?
I can't afford to buy a gaming computer(or any really) with Windows7 right now just to continue playing. I am gonna be really pissed if this needless crap phase-out is what makes me leave CoH indefinitely(ie: when I can get a new PC).
ISSUE 20: INCARNATES/NCSOFT LAUNCHER OFFICIALLY=DOOM.
(From what I can get from that error message it appears the game won't run with XP2 because it's unable to tap into my processor data with it's current coding. I don't see how it's any of an MMOs business what type/power/speed processor I have anyway. maybe with their Techhelp exe they give when players have problems with the software. But it certainly doesn't seem required to me for the game itself.) -
Quote:Yup, he'll be back, he's just going to the darkside for badges...and maybe cookiesJust to add to what Necrotech_Master said nothing else happens to your Prestige totals or join dates or anything else. All of that gets "frozen" in place while you are on the "wrong" side until you return back. The only thing that's permanent is the auto demotion for Super Leaders. Technically if you return back the current Super Leader could re-promote you back, assuming he/she wants to.
.
Since I'm the SL of the SG, and the ranks have fallen to me and my zillion alts plus like 2 other players ill probably pass SL to an alt until I'm back. I can't remember if SL can be passed to an offline character, but meh, that's what 2 accounts and $30/month is for lol.
-
So I'm finally getting around to taking my main hero to villain(villain alignment, not just walking to the rogue isles lol) for the badge(s), I know he will be locked out of his base, but what happens with rank?
And will he re-gain access to the SG when he goes rogue, or not until he's all the way back to hero? -
Quote:I think "make a new character" is a way better offer than "Pick your favorite toon to make Ub3rl33t and stop complaining it's too hard for all your alts".Off base?
There were a lot of people telling other people to quit complaining about the game not giving them what they want.
Now a lot of those same people are the ones doing the complaining, and they are getting bent out of shape because the people they were telling to suck it up for 6 years are saying the same thing to them now.
Basically, those people are being treated the same way they were treating other people for the last 6 years. It all boils down to people thinking they can say something to someone, but when the positions are reversed you better not DARE say it to them.
So, yeah, that's where the "How's it feel?" came from. People getting outraged over being told the same thing they were saying for years.
And on a sidenote someone mentioned the craft/breakdown system. All "common" Incarnate components take 4 shards to create, what is with them all breaking down to 1? If they all take the same amount to make you shouldn't be penalized if you do a TF for fun and want to swap the reward for one of equal value you actually need. -

Quote:I "didnt play" because I know the character set to +0/x0 is not fun to play without something with it to keep it alive. The run from the hospital to the missiondoor isn't what I find fun about cohIn other words you weren't playing the game.
And I repeat, you got nowhere because you didn't play. And you're trying to foist the blame off on people not teaming with you.
