Let me ask what you think of using the aoe blast instead of the singe target blast.

Quote:You are right, I wouldn't notice a damage cap increase at all on my INV/SS. Until I was teaming. And thats what tankers are about, teaming and working within a team to increase the teams effectiveness. Granted we do a lot of that effectiveness increasing by redirecting the damage to ourselves. But on a team, when buffs start flying, a tank would reach comic book levels of awesome. We all know the devs want people to team more.Indeed. But I also acknowledge that some people have said that's not enough for them to differentiate Tankers from Brutes and that they wont notice a cap change alone if they're not SS, Shield or KM, so I'm open to hearing suggestions for a new Tanker mechanic in addition to fixing the cap.

I think Mark is holding out for The Killing Joke. He even has a petition on his facebook or twitter to get Timmy to make it.

Also guys, I just read the last few posts and still see some people claiming jb wants to give more damage to tanks. That is not what he wants, he wants to RAISE THE DAMAGE CAP. that translates into gving tanks the potential for damage with buffers on the team. And correct me if I'm wrong jb, but the idea is to match potential with brutes, since they have the potentialto reach tanker like levels of survivability.

Iirc correctly, before COV came out Jack cameo the tanker forums and asked us forumites what was wrong with tanks. There was a month long discourse from the forum about the state of tanks in the game. Suggestions were made on how to fix things and the concept that stuck with everybody was, "as the fight goes longer the the tanker starts to hit harder, to really let loose." From that fury was born and again, iirc, as it was being worked on, Jack came to the boards to give tanks updates about how development of it was going and literally promised Tanks were getting this mechanic. Then COV came out and brutes had it. Jack then came to the board amd told tanks it didn't feel right on a tank and he had something else for us which we would be getting soon, but that never materialized.

No, release it now in 2d, then do special 3d event for all the suckers who think 3d is awesome.

Chrome had a rather brilliant idea in another thread. He suggested making taunt an inherent power, like fly is for khelds. That gives tanks an extra power pick over brutes which they could use for another attack which would up tanks DPS without really changing anything or flat out adding extra damage.

Wow. I loaded that build up in mids and that is exactly what I was trying to accomplish. Still not sold on pulsar or quantum acceleration but so far this is the right track. I knew there was a better way to accomplish my goals than what I was attempting. I did swap out gleaming blast for glinting eye, simply because I like the animation better, still slotted the same though.
Could lose those and pick up superspeed and burnout. Man, attack chain, burnout attack chain would be a DPS monster I think. -
Ah, didn't know that.
Still brought me to the forums however. It just gave that weird redirect bug. -
WooHOO
That good enough for the bug hunter badge?
Cause I've only been trying to get that one since issue 2 or so lol. -
Issue verified.
boards.coh.com is broken
boards.cityofheroes.com works just fine -
Isolated the issue. When I typed in boards.coh.com is how I was getting to the boards before. Logging in gave me a redirect error. However, when I went to coh.com, then clicked community, then forums, then logged in it worked just fine.

This is the first one I bought with my own money.
Crisis on Infinite Earths #5
I would have linked the picture on here, but the thing is huge. Link leads to the comic cover btw. -
So what your counting on is stacked bruising allowing tanker attacks to take advantage of the higher cap which would in effect give them a psuedo dmg boost instead of just boosting dmg and being done with it. I am hoping you also took into account that on a team of 8, mobs don't often last long enough for bruising to stack on any one target which would mean dmg for a tank in a 8 man team would still be closer to what it is today.
Looking at in the stand point, you would see a fairly decent increase in dps from bruising and the higher cap when solo and on a team of say, up to 4, but once you break 4 then the dmg should come back down to the levels they are at now just based on the time to live of the mobs.
Did I interpret that right? -
J_B,
While I admire your passion on making Tanks more comic book like, you need to step back just a sec. Double check all your points, then begin the assualt anew for the changes you want.
As a fellow tank player, I can agree with you that some things on tanks need to change. Yes, fury was developed for tanks and then handed to Brutes to be the new shiny. I remember being part of the whole discussion with tankers and Statesman, many of whom are no longer playing the game for whatever reason. Yes, brutes can achieve survivability that rivals a tanks survivability. Yes, because damage is such a big part of the aggro mechanic, brutes can steal aggro from tanks. Should those things be happening? No, but they are. You are receiving a lot of pushback from everyone on the changes you would like made. The focus of the push back is the damage descrepancy. While it would be nice to have more damage, or at least a higher damage cap, the thought of giving tanks more damage is what causes people to disregard your points. I myself can make an arguement against it by noting that I get 400+ dmg every 8 seconds with knockout blow. That doesn't count haymaker or any other attach I throw while knockout blow is recharging. You have many good points, while I personally do not agree that more damage would fix the issue, but your make a compelling arguement. Don't stop trying to get some changes for tanks, just adjust your tactics a hair. To give an example of what I see when I read your posts,
Man wades into a river to dam it with a big board. River sweeps man away.
You should be more,
Team of beavers grabs lots of small sticks and successfully dams the river.
Thanks,
Profit
Having said that, I can only think of three changes I want right now for my INV/SS.
1. I want Tough Hide swapped with Resist Physical Damage
2. I want a higher aggro cap and stronger aggro generation.
3. When running SOs, I would like to reach 34% resist to F/I/Nrg/NgNrg with all toggles and three slotted passives
One of those things benefits all tanks, two of those benefits my tank and other INVs. -
Hope its not a copyright issue. My global is @Profit.
But I have successfully gotten the name on other servers, Justice is just my home server.
I think I remember that show, wasn't that about an accoutant?
Also, it would have to be a character name for me to /friend it wouldn't it? -
I don't understand why they are even bothering to make a fuss over this. I'll explain why I don't understand in two words,
Renee Montoya. -
Quote:I to would like some names opened up. Since beta I've been trying to get Profit as a character name on Justice Server. It was taken, so on every character I have ever made I friend Profit. Never online. A few months ago after free to play hit, I tried to find out the global of the toon Profit using the get_global_name command. Surprise, no Global name associated, which means the player hasn't been on since globals were invented.I would argue that by the end of this year, Freedom will have been out long enough for the people who are likely to return to have returned by then.
My email grace period idea was going along with what Memphis Bill suggested. I realize that emails will change (I've changed mine multiple times during the time I've played CoX) and that people won't always be able to access their account emails (I had some problems when I was temporarily overseas). Additionally, I agree that email doesn't function correctly 100% of the time. Perhaps calling it a grace period would be wrong since it won't really be a "grace period," but that doesn't mean that simply because one solution doesn't work for everyone that we shouldn't pursue it.
For those who are likely to return, you say that people have popped in and out over the years during the free reactivation weekends. Well, now they can pop in whenever they want. It's not too much to ask that they log in once or twice a year to keep the names they want.
Furthermore, given that names are required to be unique in the game, the fact that we are continuously locking up names is problematic for players who are actually playing. What's happening is that the current system is preventing actual participants (some paying) from fully enjoying things for the possibility that some people will return.
The reason why I'm suggesting the change is that since my first day of playing over five years ago, I've wanted a specific name, which I would still like. Five years later, that name is still reserved, possibly by an account which has been inactive during all of that time. Should we really be locking up names for that long from people who are currently supporting the game for those who haven't supported the game in so long? -
I would like higher than 20. Maybe 40 total.
-
There is always one of the trusty stand bys for any power in the form of either Combat Jumping or Air Superiority. AS might be that absolute best power in the game. Kinda hard to judge without MIDs right in front of me though as to what might fit.
-
Every single time I log into the forums I get an invalid redirect.
My work around so far has been to click new posts and then on into the Forums proper. Anyone else experiencing this? -
Oh yeah, I defintely want help
I have enjoyed my kheld for a long time but recognized he needed an overhaul of sorts. What would you recommend other than pulsar?
You should do a guide on comparable IOs lol. I would never have thought to use Makos in place of Hecatomb. I absolutely love stupey though.
I'll pop it up in mids later and see if anything else jumps out at me. -
Quote:I have to agree with this for Marvel. I'm not sure who wrote the arc, but the "Streets of Poison" arc in Capt A was really good as well.Avengers Kree/Skrull Saga
X-Men by Chris Claremont/John Byrne - especially Dark Phoenix Saga
Daredevil by Frank Miller - Elektra Returns and Born Again stories
Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock by Jim Starlin
Thor by Walt Simonson
Hulk by Peter David
.
Also want to agree with Tenzhi, get the TPBS. They are great. -
I'm not set on pulsar. Pulsar was an experiment in mitigation, much the same as I use hand clap. If an enemy is stunned they aren't hurting me, so pulsar was going to become, "I need an extra second for <insert power here> to recharge."
I like what you've done, although I only see one 4 pt knockback IO. I'm guessing with the perma eclipse and the knockback protection in it that it will become my primary knockback protection.
As for budget, I don't see me using PVP IOs or purples for a while so I would be looking to replace those in the short term. The reason I say that is because as long as I've been playing, I am just now 500 mil from having my first 2 billion inf. HOs aren't a problem because I'm on Justice and we raid anywhere from 2 to 4 times a week.
It looks good although I'm at work and won't be able to pop it into mids until tongiht. Just at first glance though, looks real good. Like I said earlier, I'm sure there were smarter slotting choices than I was making
