No, release it now in 2d, then do special 3d event for all the suckers who think 3d is awesome.

To be honest, that's actually a solid logical call. They've spent all the cash on an initial promo push, a second crack at the summer cherry with 3D (and no Men In Black, Prometheus, Dark Knight or Mighty Joss Whedon Movie That Is Hallowed As All That Is Awesome clogging up the schedules).
Having read twitter feeds from assorted cast members (including @TheRock), there does seem to be genuine surprise at the need for re-shoots and whole new setpieces for 3D.
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

Actually I'm thinking you can thank Battleships sunken showing last week along with the Avengers continued roll and Spiderman/TDKR still coming up, at least in part over the studios cockamamie "oh, we forget there was 3D!" nonsense.
Even if they were influenced by Avengers huge 3D pull at higher ticket costs, their film isn't going to scratch those numbers, 3D, 6D or otherwise lol.
It's ironic given the movie subject but this is the clearest we surrender move I can remember in summer movie cycles.

The biggest suggestion I'm seeing about this movie (because quite frankly, does anyone buy the fact that this close to release they now think that 3D is a good move?) is that in the wake of the Avengers' huge success, there's going to be a call for a movie that's similar to beef up and expand upon the team dynamics.
GI Joe's core and why a lot of people like it is for those relationships (Snake Eyes and Scarlet just for one) and I can see a studio looking at the Avengers and going 'you know what people are saying about the Whedon movie?'
I know I would be with over a billion dollars in gross so far.

Scarlet isn't in this one. The only returning characters are Duke, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow, iirc. Everyone else got put on a bus or something.
