Quote:For the record, this is what I plan on primarily doing with my time between now and November. Every chance I get, I will be demo recording fly throughs and such, making sure to get a copy of each area I can. I had originally planned on doing this for nostalgia purposes, so on a bad day, when I am really missing Paragon city, I can just pop in a demo file and relive the glorious moments of flying through the cities which is what always brought me joy in the first place. But if anything what-so-ever can be used from my recordings to keep the game, or to rebuild, then for god's sake you may have every thing I've got. I love you all, and I love this game.I hope someone is archiving ALL the current zones with fly-throughs and instance runs, to document what is where, mob spawns, music queues and such. Something tells me you are going to need them.
Also, if the time comes and the game ends and there is no alternative, if anyone wants me to send them some of my demo records just so that they can taste Paragon once more, drop me a line and I would be happy to send you whatever you want. I am here for EACH ONE OF YOU! My email (specifically for CoH matters) is PrinceRecluse@gmail.com - Feel free to hit me up.
Another side note: Being that this is TonyV's post, and I now know WHO he is, I just want to take this time to humbly thank you from the bottom of my heart for ParagonWiki.com. I never really utilized Titan Network, but ParagonWiki has been my bible for a long time and always wanted to thank whoever was in charge. It was one of the only things that was able to help me fully understand how the Incarnate system worked, and it was always my refresher for badge locations, demo record controls, etc., and everything in between. Thank you Tony and anyone else involved in ParagonWiki. I have been playing since August of 2004 (Happy terribly sad Anniversary to me...), but yet you always seemed to teach me a faucet of the game I didn't quite know. And I always used my knowledge to help new players, and I always suggested that they check out ParagonWiki.com . May the God of your choice bless you for all of eternity. You all deserve it. -
I would be happy to donate/invest what I can. $15 a month just freed up so... yeah.
Also was thinking about building a private server myself, if that becomes a possibility. Please update me if it does, as I am not a Forum junkie. PrinceRecluse@gmail.com
What I really think would be the best possible outcome IMHO in a CoH death senario would be that once NCSoft closes the doors on CoH and Paragon for good (and if they don't release the code or IP), the entirety, or at least majority, of the employees of Paragon Studios form together as their own new small buisness company, and get back to work!Go under a new name (i.e. "Rogue Island Studios"... see what I did there?), and start the creation of a new, oddly similar (but just before Copyright Infringement), Super Hero game called something like "Galactic Heroes", and start taking my money again without the likes of NCSoft, seems like people like the idea of going through Valve. Apparently many people would be willing to contribute to a kickstarter, or w/e, for the creation of your new, yet similar, company. Then, we make you the Super Hero version of Blizzard or Bungie, and you go on to make even more awesome games. I had always heard that the reason a lot of requested things could never happen is because the engine the game was originally built for was too limited, and the only way to fix it would be to build a new game... Now is your chance. I love this game just as much as anyone, and more than most, and this is exceptionally devastating to me for a grab bag of reasons. Life will be forever significantly different, and not necessarily in a good way. But, if it has to end, let's make some BOMB *** lemonade out of these god-aweful, rotten, natsy, bitter lemons. In order to rebuild the game, we must rebuild Paragon Studios. Let's make City of Heroes all of what it was, but also everything it could never have been, but could have been great. Let's make the infamous City of Heroes 2!
...hmm
Sorry. At some point in there I was overcome and started talking directly to the staff over at Paragon Studios somehow. But I think the point gets across. I want more than just to keep CoH, I want to keep the wonderfully geniused people that make and maintain what it is to this day. If any other group takes CoH over, it will no longer be CoH.
Whatever happens, I am interest and down to help. Already hit up the petition.
PrinceRecluse@gmail.com
Whatever happens, your all the best people I have ever had the privileged of knowing. Know that you have my strongest wishes to be blessed by whatever it is that you hold dear or sacred. Even if I don't know you on a personal level, please believe that you will be missed.
As long as I am alive (30yrs down, ? to go) Paragon City will exist, within me. The sun will shine in Atlas Park, the waves will crash on the shores of Mercy, and the buildings of Nova Preatoria will continue to cast their shadows. The rescue effort will continue in Galaxy. And as for me... If you are looking for me, you can find me repeatedly killing 100 infected in the danger zone of Outbreak.
(Here's to CoX2!) -
Ah. Fair enough. Makes sense. And now I know, which I am told is 50% of the battle.
My apologies for the confusion. Thanks for being cool about my screw up and not going Ape Pancakes, which is totally bananas.

Quote:I was being serious, but thanks for approaching with caution.I'm not sure if you're being serious or not here (again with that whole "hard to read sarcasm in text" thing), but I'm going to reply as if you were.
As it stands currently, every player gets the same offering for Freebie Friday.
The only "random" factor to it is that the marketing department apparently throws darts at a board to decide what we all get.(That bit was sarcasm. Or hyperbole. Or both.)
And that is the way I thought it was being done as well. The item is picked at random, but everyone gets same random item. But based on some of the posts much earlier in the thread, before the debate on the proper style of royalty headwear, it appeared not everyone was getting the Princess hat.
I could be wrong, or not properly reading the sarcasm, but, for example: (all from this weeks Freebie Thread)
Quote:Nice Dark Tower avie, Thany.
Also, thanks much for the free Loot Paragon!....
Quote:It's a rez! It's like they *know* I'm going to charge in to a spawn set for 8 and accidentally, say, toggle Snow Storm after Heat Loss instead of Blizzard...
Not that I'd ever do that...
... like I did last night...
>.>
.... thanks for the rez, I can always use another. >.<
How about this. How about EVERYONE WHO DID NOT GET THE PRINCESS HAT AS AN OPTION, PLEASE POST YOUR ITEM BELOW, thanks.
...or...
If a red name wants to hop on here and confirm real quick that everyone gets same item, that would be great too. Cause based on this thread, I don't have the time and patience to go back through all other Freebie threads to find answer. -
-
Wow.. What a thread. So many to Quote, so little time.
First off, pay my respects for the free stuff. Princess Hat, many thanks. Probably never would have bought it, but like to think I have everything in the game, so thanks for the help. Never play female toons, but just gave me an idea for new character so, thanks again.
Also, as far as one of the many tangents of the post: I agree, some people need to realize that everyone else is not a threat and to understand a joke when they read one. But on the other hand, the other side needs to remember that sarcasm, though sounding perfect in your head, does not translate well through text unless you personally know the writer.
And for condescension: No one deserves to have they're opinions condescendingly reprimanded. No matter how off base.
Now for the original purpose of this whole thread: I didn't know people were getting different things, and that it was so semi-random. I learned something. Thanks.
Free stuff is free stuff. No matter what it is, they didn't have to give it away for free at all, and just because you can't benefit from this weeks offering, doesn't mean others can't and some may actually need it. You don't have to get it and it is not like they are replacing a better "Pay-for-Item" opportunity with this "Free Item" space. There (IMHO) is no logical reason to complain about this feature what so ever. Yes, sometimes the items are not that useful and somewhat redundant. But in a years time they will be giving away 52 free items, and the offering per person is apparently random-ish so 52x(?), therefore just because a few items aren't the best or rarest item in the game, doesn't mean the whole program is a waste of time.
And agreed from previous posts: Although I too have accrued way too many team/dual insps from superpacks that I will probably never use, I will take another Revival/ XP/INF/PRST booster for free anytime, any day.
Now for the original reason for the reply near the beginning of the thread....
LOL

Dear Paragon Studios,
I have been a loyal customer for nearly 8 years now. I love this game, and although I may stray from it from time to time when a new game comes out, I will always come back. I will be here until the servers are shut down, you have my word.
Quote:
With that said, I'm being as honest as I can be when I say, as much as I love the idea of these Freebie Fridays, the stuff offered thus far is just more 'junk' that would farther clutter up my Character items window.
When you 'gave' them away in Super Packs and still very few people used them, that should have been a huge indicator that the majority of the player base didn't want them.2) Like being able to give stuff to my friends (insps, etc.) or help SG.
But I Highly agree that the email list window adjustment abilities need to be re-evaluated. Significantly annoying when you have so many.
That should not be a back burner item for the dev team.
Quote:
I'm sorry, I thought a discussion thread was a place the players were allowed to express their opinions, rather their opinion differs from one another or not. I guess I was wrong.
*shrug*
"Yes, more free stuff! Gimme!!!"
Is that more within the lines of the mindless 'drone' response you were looking for?

XP booster not enough? here, have a hat princess.
Thanks for your time everyone. And remember: In order to justify respect for you post/opinion, you MUST respect the posts/opinions of everyone else. Not necessarily "agree with", but respect.

Might have missed the point from your entire post (my fault not yours), but just in reference to this one line

Quote:(ehem...)[*]Statesman and Sister Psyche have been removed from the game, except for in the tutorial and in flashback missions.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
/em crylikeababy /em breakstuff
It is like if DC just "Removed" Superman from the universe entirely!
Granted, although I haven't played through all the Sig Story Arcs personally, I know what happens. But how do you remove the poster child of the game for the past 8 years like that? I am very excited about the new things and features with I23, and I will keep playing the game like a fiend until they kill the servers, but I am a bit heartbroken here.
How about this: A hero, or co-op, zone/building that is a Statesman tribute/monument. Or at least replace Atlas statue with Statesman. Some sort of Statesman Statue somewhere. Hell, Recluse has 2 massive statues (1 in Mercy Island and 1 in Grandville). I just feel that while, ok MAYBE the live physical Statesman may be removed from the game, but the icon of Statesman should not be completely removed from the game. He has been Paragon's Superman for the past 8 years. I was excited about the new stuff when I saw the new CoH.com and login screen background... then I read this and realized what was going on. Now the new background upsets me.
And don't dare say "Well Marcus Cole still exists as Tyrant." Tyrant is a tool, and NOT the Marcus Cole from the Web Of Arachnos novel. (If you haven't read it, and love the game.... READ IT)
Or am I missing something? Is there a logical, good reason to remove Statesman, the game's Icon, from the game other than just the fact that he is dead?
You will be missed Statesman. . . and Sister Psyche. -
-
.... "Vanguard" jet? ...Am I missing something? Thought it was Longbow Chaser/Arachnos Flyer? I am just gonna assume I am missing something.
Cause the power I bought, when used on my hero, brings down a Longbow Chaser.
-
Quote:I was wondering that too. My assumption was Lion-O. Maybe Human Torch, but I am assuming he was going for Fur, not Fire.Okay... Am I the only one here that doesn't know...
Who is the guy all the way on the right?
(EDIT: After a closer look at the "flames" on his gloves and shoulders, I am going with Human Torch. Should have added an orange mask though.) -
Quote:In my opinion, the XP boosters, while pricey, can be worth it to fly through the first dozen or so levels of a newly created alt.The shared XP boosters are a bit more attractve though that price tag still gives me sticker shock.
On the fence for the team TP also. Also a sticker shock thing.
I think I'll just wait out and see if there is the inevitable sale.
And as for the Team TP, its a fun power, but more vanity I think. I got it (of course) and enjoyed it, but if you don't really care about having a Longbow/Arachnos "jet" come down, and you have some other mission tp and Assemble The Team, then I would AT LEAST wait til it went on sale cause it is currently hard to justify the price tag (Especially if you play solely on Exhaulted Server, where most players will have some sort of quick way to get to mission). I wouldn't consider it a "can't live without". Especially considering the AoE for tp is localized (<-- not 100% range). -
Quote:Couldn't agree more. Well put.my 8th anniversary "reward" from CoH is that it's still here & I can play it.
To clarify my point, in case it seemed as though I was offended or something, I don't think Paragon Studios is in the wrong for not including something like I mentioned. The reason I even posted on THIS thread is because that is what I was "hoping" for when the Market opened this morning, and I just wanted to state that I thought this mornings "Offerings" were kind of bland.
But like we both stated: It is an under-appreciated achievement that CoH has lasted (and runs strong) for 8 amazing years, and the fact it is still offered and supported is thanks enough. Heck, most games don't stay around, or hold my attention at least, for 1-2 years. -
Quote:Ok, kinda missed the point here. To recap (focus on the bold):You mean like the SSAs? Or how about all the powersets marked "VIP Content".
Quote:Absolutely true! And I love it. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying we get Nothing. I am primarily just speaking in terms of the 8 year anniversary.
But also, "VIPs get 1800 extra Paragon Points per year", well we are paying $180 a year on subscrip alone (not to mention the money VIPs throw into the market). 1800 is about $20 +/- of points. Not saying I don't appreciate the points, I am just saying I would like for P Studios to every now and then (and ESPECIALLY on special occasions) throw something out there to the VIPs for free that the lowers can buy that just says "Hey, thanks for all the years you have paid to play with us, especially now that you have a choice, we made this specially for YOU, because your a Very Important Player". Not just some extra points so that I can justify paying the premium to get Street Justice when it first comes out cause I am excited and can't wait how ever many months it takes before they put it on sale.
I know they love the VIPs, I just wish it was a little more evident and tangible during the celebratory season, that's all.
I am NOT in anyway saying that VIPs don't get anything.
As far as Signature Story Arcs go... while fun, I would not say that some missions that you can purchase for 400 points, or free with $15 subscription, is a defining bonus of being a VIP member.
And the powers... I personally don't consider any of the powers that came with CoH, CoV, or GR, all powers pre-Freedom, to be "VIP" content. Just because you didn't pre-purchase the game and just downloaded the free client and haven't payed anything, does not mean that I am getting special privileges by having powers you don't. For the other powers... How many new power sets have VIPs gotten for free? Fairly certain I had to pay for Street Justice, Titan Weapons, Staff Mastery, and Beam Rifle. Can't claim Dual Pistols and Kinetic Melee, etc. as "VIP content", since those came free before Freedom. I paid the cost of 2 Collector's Editions (CoH and CoV), 1 Going Rogue retail game, and just shy of 8 years of $15 a month ($1440-). And that is not even scratching the surface. I feel, as far as games go, I have already paid for the pre-Freedom powers.
But by now hopefully you understand that I don't think VIPs are shortchanged, I just think at least on the 8 year anniversary, there should have been some sort of Market content, or VIP exclusive, that metaphorically said "Thanks for the past 8 years, and many more in the future!" Not just another TP power. Even like a special sale priced group that was slightly more discounted for accounts with tenure.
Like a freakin little Cake vanity pet that had a number 8 candle on it and legs that would walk around with you, and there was an emote/or when you dismissed him you picked him up and splattered him on your face.
That is all.. -
Quote:"Hence the "Shared XP" icon. That being said, this is, in fact, an older icon, and I'll update it in a few moments,"Hi all,
The 50% XP Booster, as I understand it, gives you a temporary power that you can cast on another player after activation. Hence the "Shared XP" icon. That being said, this is, in fact, an older icon, and I'll update it in a few moments, but I wanted to clear this up before speculation about Nemesis plots gets out of hand ;-).
Best,

Ok, before I say what I am about to say, let me say this: I love this game and have no intention to stop playing anytime soon. Probably won't stop till they shut down the servers. It's the best game I have ever experienced for the past 8 years. And I praise the devs and all their hard work, adding ANYTHING to a game is no easy task.
Long Live Paragon!! (Both the studios and the city)
That having been said...
Maybe it is just me, but being a loyal subscriber for (basically) 8 years now I can't help but feel that this week's Featured Items at the Paragon Market is so lackluster and ... bleh. Don't get me wrong, I am sure the Team TP is nice, and after typing I will be clicking to purchase, but I mean... really? It is technically the first market update since the 8 year Anniversary of the game... 8 YEARS!!! That is inconceivable in video game shelf lives!! 8 Year Anniversary and all we have on the market is yet another TP power (already have Mish TP, Mish Transporter, Assemble Team, and the LFG tab for TF/Trials) that IMHO should be free for Vets at 7+ years, along with a rehashing of the Staff power set which was on market last week, and not even on Sale this week, just there.... again... And the XP boosters, which if what Freitag was saying is true, then that could be kinda neat and I have been using them wrong, but still, as it says on post "Additional Featured Item" not New. Ant then of course there is an obscure collection of things on sale, some of which upset me considering how much I paid for them. But none the less, this is the post-8th Anniversary Celebration Market! And all we really get is a Team TP? It just feels like it is missing so much.
Also, I feel the longstanding loyal VIP members of the past 8 years should be getting a little more "For your Loyalty You Can Have This Free" love, but that argument is for another thread. And for the record, I rarely get on the Forums to post, and I have been a dedicated fan since August of 2004, but I was just so let down by this weeks market "additions and sales" that I felt I HAD to get on here and say something. 8 YEARS PEOPLE!! We should be celebrating!! Hell I would be happy to see "New Item: GOLDEN Number 8 Judge Emote"! Simply the Judge emote where you hold up the Number 8 and the texture has just been changed from a white background to Gold! I would pay for that just to celebrate! Hell I have paid for everything else so far... Everything.
These may just be my opinions though. I could be the only person who felt that this week's offerings was a deflated balloon that said "Happy 8th" on it, with a picture of a longbow flyer that was partially covered up by the dirt from a boot print.
But I still love you, I am going to continue supporting you and throwing my money at you (dropped $50 last night in preparation for today's AWESOMENESS... and then this happened), and I will continue logging in and smiling. Thanks for listening to us, like always.
LONG LIVE PARAGON! -
Going with B. I like the look of A, and C is unique from all the other jet pack powers and backpacks currently available. But in fairness and in keeping with the theme of "Retro", B is definitely the right look. Especially for a "Rocketeer" inspired character...
-
I voted for C, for the shape and style, but would be great if it had a texture and glow line like B. Almost voted for B simply for the glow line, but couldn't get over the shoulders and over-all "roundness" of the suit. I think C would look great if it was more fabric and less metal.(IMHO)

... Um ... Really? After all these years, I finally understand!!!!! Could have sworn it was "Team Recluse" not "Arachnos". Guess I was wrong. .. . ... Or maybe, just maybe, It is a reference to me being "Overlord" of MY Villain Group, Team Recluse, that is a fictional branch off of Arachnos. ... Just maybe.

But I am glad to see someone is actually paying special attention to my forum signature. Don't worry, I feel the love.
Now... Back to the Expansion. -
Expect the expansion to cost $29 and $39 .... Not full price of a new game ($49) but yet not just a large booster ($9-$19). Think about it this way folks, NCSoft owns Guild Wars as well as CoX. The (Guild Wars) Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North Expansions cost $39. So of course the same company is gonna do the same thing with any game. Also, if you need another example, WoW. Both expansions, Burning Crusade and Wrath of Lich King started out costing $39.99. (I work at a major computer retailer).
This expansion will be a boxed edition (with online download of course) just like ALL the others so you can pretty much bet that this expansion will cost $29-$39, with a collector's edition at $10 more. -
[ QUOTE ]
So Praetoria might be a new starting "grey" area, or it might be a whole new city? If this is a paid expansion, I would think it will be an entire world. My bet is Praetoria is treated like a whole new world with 5-10 cities that are totally different from the ones we know. Imagine a Mercy Island that wasn't run down, but rather nice like a tourist destination....or a Skyway City completely run down and decrepid, overrun with Arachnoids.
If this is the case, you'll probably be able to enter Praetoria from either side, and do content to change your moral meter to switch sides....then head back to the real world. I'm thinking everything in Praetoria will be CoOp. Just my $.02
[/ QUOTE ]
Just read this. I totally agree with this theory. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Although this now creates just a few more questions.. But I think this theory of how the "New World" will be is the most logical, that I have seen.
... oh and Yes, it has been announced it will be a paid expansion, I feel pretty confident assuming the prices will be $29 and $39, for Standard and Collector's. -
These are just my opinions based on the official "released" info on the Expansion.
Haven't read every post but almost all and it seems that for the most part, many people can't seem to figure out how this whole "Expasion" thing is going to work out.
This should be nothing new for the players who were here before CoV. Remember, City of Villains was an "Expansion" to City of Heroes. Many people now just assume that the 2 games are one and the same. While they "may" be copies of each other, they are both 2 separate entities. Even though they come packaged together now, they are still 2 "worlds" that interconnect. A long time ago (Happy 5 year anniversary btw) there was JUST City of Heroes, and then word came out that they were releasing an expasion, called "City of Villains", that had its own Signature Characters and "world", while still letting Villains "interact" with heroes. There were questions just like these, and it turned out quite well. In fact, the expansion worked so well with the actual "game" that the common thought became that it was just "one" game with two sides. The same will happen here, with the 2nd Expansion. There will be a "Third Side".
Consider this to be just like the release of City of Villains:
- New Common Title: "City of Heroes" Going Rogue
- New Signature Characters (including Altered Originals)
- New AT
- New Zone
- There will be multiple connections, at different levels, that access the previous parts of the game (i.e. PvP Zones, Pocket D, Arenas, etc.) in some "regulated" way.
- Use of common (same) interface and updater
- Same backgrounds and interface graphics, just with different theme (CoV had the Red with Black, I think this one will be Black with gray/silver or something like that)
- Etc.
Although I am not expecting this one to be as expansive, like having as many ATs as CoV, I expect that this will be extremely simliar to the launch of CoV. There will be a new "City", with multple zones. "Common Areas" for Heroes, Villains, and Neutrals. The only thing that is really different about the 2 expansions is the side switching. Which I am sure will be regulated in one way or another so that it is not a bother to anyone playing one of the previous games. Personally I think you will be able to enter Paragon or the Isles, based on your alignment, via some sort of Zone entrance like a contact, train, or portal. Probably a portal since you will be in an alternate world. . but
The other possibility, is a "copy" of Paragon and the Isles, but in an altered world, where you will not be interacting with the current players of CoH/V. But I feel this option is highly less likely as it will be a rather time consuming and costly waste of effort, AS WELL AS make CoH AND CoV totally obsolete, since you could play the entire game "world" from just the Expansion. But this is still a possibility.
Well at first I was ranting, but now I am pretty much just thinking out loud, so I will close it up. Basically just think of it as another City of Villains expansion, with a Morality meter.
(And I STILL think what "Alternate Statesman", or Tyrant, or whoever, says in the trailer video, is a DIRECT reference to the Devs possibily dropping the War Walls!! Even if it IS in a copy of Paragon in an alternate world.)
Please share YOUR thought and opinions about what I have said or other ideas about how this might work. -
Or is it just a "Hey! Look at me! I have a really big Empire, with lots of people! YaY!"
-
Did anyone else even catch the "My Empire knows NO BOUNDS" statement from the trailer? Does anyone else even think it could be a reference to a lack of War Walls, or possibly servers, or ANY of the related issues people have been talking about for years?
....
Anyone? -

[ QUOTE ]
Does anyone else suspect that they will be raising the level cap for this? I hope so! I'm certain there are lots of players that want their level 50 characters to cross to the other side.
[/ QUOTE ]
Been done to death, covered a bunch of times, no the level cap will not raise. Castle covered this a while back, there'd be no reason to do it. He basically said "never say never, but basically never" it's PROBABLY safe to say CoX will NEVER raise it's level cap.
[/ QUOTE ]
While I agree that I am afraid they will NOT be raising the level cap with this expansion, I do however believe that there will be "something" new for level 50 toons to do and achieve.
