That's the road that I recently took. I've got a SS/Fire and I can take on packs on fire bosses with little trouble.

Now where do I run into trouble is that THAT's all that I can do. If your solo farming then it's ok but don't expect your group to fully support you when you do your AE with all customs. They hit harder and most people are speced differently. Speaking more with teams you cannot aggro more then 10 Bosses with your Aura/FS. So small teams (like 3 people) are ok but anything bigger will cause problems.

I recently leveled a Bots/FF MM and I gotta say that with a couple of my 50's (SS/Fire, Bots/FF, and Kin) I can take on AVs in AE while loosing 0 HP. Everything gets resisted, it's simply amazing (now I just need to figure out how to kill them faster LOL).

Just my 2 cents I guess.
  2. THIS is why I have a difficult time believing NCSoft could figure out how to fix any issues, they can not even reply from the correct Tech Support department after posting a ticket for the right game....LOL

I understand the questions the tech is asking is standard procedure but c'mon.

I'm going to move forward and answer the questions and see where it gets me. I hope they don't throw it back at me in the form of contact your ISP.

    Good Luck all!

I play on Freedom too, and will add to the comments tonight if that's ok =)
  3. Oh geez, don't even blame NCSoft for this. It's your fault. Always is. Reasons to follow from others..........
  4. Sorry, my statement was ment to get into a pissing match =)

Windows XP is old technology plain and simple. Does old technology work? Yes, of course. But, if you want to future proof yourself a bit more get the upgrade OS.

Having a 64bit OS allows you to increase your ram size and I have to disagree withthat not being a very viable option. I agree that this game and other aps may not use 2gigs of ram but don't forget we are talking cumlative here. Have a bunch of programs running at the same time and that 2-4 gigs of ram gets used up pretty quick and your only option to increase it is to have an 64bit OS running.

Also [referencing the 32bit or 64bit comment], not many apps use all the cores in multicore CPU I agree but, if you REALLY want to get into tweaking your system out for the use of cores you can set the affinity of certain programs to use certain cores and free up others.

For example, you could theoretically set most programs to use the first 3 cores of a quad 3gHz and set CoH to use the forth core.... that would dedicate most all of the 3gHz of the forth core to CoH!

If you spend the time tweaking Vista or Windows7 turning off features you will never need, tweak the Services.msc, tweak the gpedit.msc and tweak the Task Scheduler; they run great.
Like I said vinyl LP and cd lovers =) We are both right in our own ways, it's all up to personal preference. Just FYI, I have XP Pro 64bit, Vista Ultimate 64bit and Windows7 RC 7100 on three different systems and I will more than likely upgrade to Windows7.

But I digress, the OP is fine using XP64 bit in their new system for use with CoH and perform most all of the same options I just said above.

    Fire/Kin....HELP

This is one I have been fooling around with. The major advantage I am noticing is I never run out of endurance. Unless of course I use Inferno =).

It's a work in progress. Some powers I notice I never use and I expect to repsec soon. I team with my partner mostly and this build has been fine for us. I haven't tested it with full groups yet so YMMV.

Mr. Smurphy had been kind enough to provide some builds in the past but I don't have the Smurph bank account for them <waves @ Smurphy>
    good Luck!

Will it improve your systems performance? NO

    [/ QUOTE ]

If this is in reference to XP 64bit over Windows7 64 bit I would have to disagree somewhat.

XP 64bit just doesn't have the proper architecture to handle todays 64bit processors efficiently. Maybe performance is considered better due to the lower overhead requirements of the OS. If you know how to tweak and turn off all the glizt and glamour of Vista or Windows7 they run very well.

These debates are similar to the vinyl/cd debates way back when and even today. One is an older technology with followers that swear it's so much better sounding where as the latter is new technology and more efficient and better sounding.

  7. hmmmmm..you're correct. I believe the version I got had some of the updates from SP3 x86 were slip-streamed into the 64bit ISO (according to what I read) but it must have been updated with SP2 when Windows Server 2003 was released too. Oh well, it works!! LOL
  8. Have CoX running on one of my systems XP 64bit with SP3 and have had no issues. Two systems were built last month each with an different OS on them.

    BOTH:

    AM3 Gigabyte MA770 mobo
AMD Phenom X2 3.1gHz AM3 (all 4 cores opened, yay!)
    XFX ATI 4850HD
    8 gigs ram

    (1)XP 64bit SP3
    (2)Windows7 RC 7600

For what it's worth, I also run CoX on my laptop and it has Vista 64bit Ultimate which I tweaked.
  9. Like I said, those pics were from another source. I'm at work right now so I couldn't capture screenies of my own to upload. =)

Pay no attention to the red dots, they mean nothing in reference to my explanation. I placed the pics so you could reference the AI Overdrive/Manual Fan check boxes I stated above.

Basically, you need to have both boxes checked in order for the Manual Fan adjustment have effect.
  10. I made 2 clickable reg files for Step 3 if you are uncomfortable editing the registry yourself. One to add the values to the registry as described above and the other to remove those values if it doesn't improve your performance or causes more issues.

After downloading, double-click the file and choose yes to add to the registry.

    I uploaded them to Mediafire:

    ADD to registry

    REMOVE from registry

To check the reg files I created, just open them with Notepad and read the values. You will see they are the same as noted above. After adding them to your registry, you can follow the instructions above and verify they were added as explained if you'd like.

  11. I have not noticed any.

At first I thought I had made the fan adjustment correctly by
-unlocking the AI section by clicking on the padlock icon
    -UNchecking the AI Overdirve feature
-Checking the box next to Manual Fan
-adjusting the percentage fan slider to where I wanted it
    -hitting the Apply button
IMAGE HERE (courtesy of another site-I did NOT overclock the card)

I had been playing for over an hour or so and the entire screen would go blank with a solid color or a BUNCH of colored blocks. I would have to hold the power button in order to shut my computer down. This happened to me twice on different nights.

I took a look at the AI settings again and noticed the fan gauge was not reading what I set it to. I checked the AI Overdrive box and tried it again. IMAGE HERE (courtesy of another site- I did NOT overclock the card as shown) It was only after I did that the fan responded to the percent I set it at and all has been fine since.

Most likely it is due to problems that exist between your cable modem and the CoH servers. If it were on the CoH servers it wouldn't be affecting many more players.

    I'm sure you ment would.

Between this post and the others in the "Really getting sick of Connection to Mapserv loss" thread I'm tired of reading it must be in between your modem and CoH servers. No really? You think?

It amazes me that EVERY other MMO out there has "something between my cable modem and their servers" YET, NCSoft's City of Heroes is the ONLY game acting this way.

Maybe then NCSoft should look at what is between THEIR servers and OUR cable modems in the AREA where this is happeneing more frequently and see if there is a common denominator and fix it. Why should the customer be doing this? We pay for a product and it's support.

And for what it's worth, I noticed this begin happeneing when the Ritki crap started. Not certain if that matters.

Southeast Coast with Time Warner on Freedom
here, we are having the same issues too.
I thought it might be my router crapping out
so I switched it with another I had. Also, changed
    NIC drivers.
    Guess it wasn't the problem.

If this is a NCSoft issue, how do we:
    1) Prove it
    2) Demand it get fixed?

I can not imagine it being an ISP issue if
    people here have different providers.

Gonna run TweakCoH when I get home for the heck of it.

Catalyst A.I.: Disabled (I've seen no benefit in leaving this enabled)

    [/ QUOTE ]

The one important advantage for me to have this enabled is the ability to manually control the fan speed of the card. You need to have both boxes checked off in this section in order to override the auto settings of the fan. I do NOT perform any overclocking and leave the timing settings alone. Having a cooler vid card with the fan at 80%-100% is better than leaving it up to the driver determining what IT wants the fan rpm to run at.

  17. What's funny is that it probably took deleting what amounted to ONE line (or paragraph) of code to remove the Hami's from the AE build screen. Have you ever highlighted a paragraph of text, hit delete and then save? Probably what happened here.
  18. I made a personal MA (which I unpublish daily). I get 14,108 per kill. I make about (when I broke it down per minute) 654,611/min. Twenty minute run = 13mil.
  19. I too miss the range of PSW. I've pretty much been able to work around the +end cost and +recharge. I've got a 40 Kin that I now pretty much have to bring if I want to farm inf or purples. But the range hurts the most. I don't want to reroll because I've become dependent on DP. I don't think I can live without in
  20. While I greatly appreciate all of the tips from TopDoc in the Scoop, I need to know does the latest AV tip still apply after Issue 15? I haven't respec'd YET, and I'm still looking at others results.

    Thanks!!!
  21. I'm just curious as stated above, has anyone
tried these new builds with the lastest issue?

    How are they working?
  22. How do you think this build will be now that the revamp on Dom powers has taken effect today?

  24. The front page says Issue 15 is going to live servers...why it's dated June 26??? Do they say it's released and then patch 3 days later??

  25. Do what was asked earlier. Make certain your power supply is large enough to handle everything in your computer.
    Also,
is heat an issue inside your case?
How are the fans? Have any other besides just stock cpu and the one on the vid card?
When was the last time you cleaned out the case?

I run a "lean" machine meaning I have minimal processes running when playing mmo's. All of the antivirus, malware programs you have running are using valuable processor speed. I understand it is an AMD 64 but you are using a 32bit OS with 32bit drivers.

While in-game, if you press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC keys to bring up the Task Manager and click on the "Performance" tab and then click back into COH (the task manager should remain on top of COH) you will see a graph of which cpu core is doing all the work and how much FREE memory you have with COH running. If they seem to be at their limits, it may not hurt to shut off some processes.

Or, turn off the AA's you have set on 4X on the vid card settings and try.

The above is just something "I" would try =)

Other than that it may be the vid card may not be getting the proper amount of power under load or heat is an issue.

    >>you mentioned WoW, you play? no issues?

    Good Luck!
