Ahem *Deep breath*
I LOVE THIS BOOSTER AND I LOVE YOU DEVS! -
My question is, can I get cold feet? Is the transition one way when you start? as in, do I have to go in one direction? Can I start roguing in one direction and then switch backwards?
I know that the inbetweens can go both sides, but and that they're in between sides, and in transition to going to the other side. And that you can just stay in the middle if you want to, but can I go halfway and then go back. Let's say I'm a hero, and I start to question the effectiveness of "traditional" heroics. I drop deeper and deeper into the realm of super-humanry. and just before I allow myself to subtly slip into the realm of evil, I see something so horrible it makes me take a good look at myself and really think about what's going on in my life, and climb back up out of that whole. -
I LOOOOOVE Ninja Run, Love it so much. Just... Sooo Much.... Gonna re-map my gamepad specifically for travel so I can go platforming around anywhere!

It's rediculous, actually the merits our culture places on arbitrary concepts of "Sport" compared to "art" it's more.. "manly", or "normal" or respectable to Engage in some kind of sport than to be an artist. Nevermind that all these artists are undeniablya thletes in their own right. This even goes so far as to force what damn well should be considered arts to be treated as sports, as in most of the winter olympic games that don't involve racing, and every single "extreme" Sport out right now. They're desperate for legitimacy in the eyes of our culture at large, so they claim the title of "sport" over what is clearly an artform. Anything that is based on performing and being judged by the imnpact it had on others is an artform.
back on topic.
It's a crazy act of serendipity, that, after my post before last, I had respecced my Nin/Traps MM into his "no travel powers" build (I had been using super jump all the way up to fifty) and then The Martial Arts Super Booster Pack came out. Pretty much all I need to do now (and I don't NEED to do it,) is take out my three jump SO's from CJ and put defense in their place. Loooooooooove Ninja Run. Three slotted hurdle, Sprint, and swift? ZUM ZUM ZUUUUUM! and it's infinitely more fun when you hop on buildings and scaffoldings and whatnot! -
Whelp, nevermind, Thanks for playing....

I've been wondering....
I've seen a lot of members, when discussing potential super boosters, or what might be in them, that all the Boosters strictly adhere to one of the in-game origins and that's it and that's that. I.e. "They won't make a new tech booster 'cause cyborg was the tech pack" I can very easily see a Gadgeteer pack, an Arsenal pack, E.t.c. A steampunk pack, all kinds of goodness, so I was wondering if there was any official word on whether or not the Booster packs would be strictly adhering to the origins and not branching out,and if there would'nt be any other boosters not tied to the origins, or multiple origins per pack, or dual origins, all that goodness.. -
Quote:Oh I love bouncing around, "climb hopping" buildings, running up wires (especially with all my henchies in perfect line after me)Quote:You know, I never thought of Parkour as a 'travel power'. I always saw it as maximizing your Existing travel powers, by creative usage of the 'obstacles' in your path.
I CoH, that means zipping up bridge embankments, instead of being Stopped by that wall. Or hopping from the top of a Dumpster to a ledge, running along that, then hopping to a low rooftop, and from there to the top of a warehouse, and crossing Over the building, instead of being forced to run Around it.
I vividly recall running through dangerous neigborhoods, by hopping and popping fences and walls, ducking away from those nasty purple things lurking in the alleys. And the screech of terror that runs through your mind in mid-laughter, when you duck away from those gang-bangers, only to find yourself blind-jumping into a crowd of Vahzilok.
And the same skills come into play, when you're SK'd to someone and have to cover ground the old-fashioned way, after they blithely Fly to the next mission.
Frankly, I tend to give a crash course in CoH Parkour to every newbie I hook up with, because it's So Useful!
Be Well!
Fireheart
I love running along/across/over and under obstacles and bouncing about.
It's interesting you mention that, so let me try and put more detail into it.
I kinda want to be able to do all that stuff and still get around at a decent clip.
When I first started playing, I, in all my newbie glory, thought fitness would be the set for this, " Automatic Jumping AND Running Speed boosts? hellz yeah!" woe was me
Ideally a buff to Fitness might cover this, but until then, the General consensus seems to be CJ+ Hurdle, which is cool as I already have CJ, question, is putting any slots into sprint worth it? same for Swift, Because I'm looking at a full Swfit+Sprint+Hurdle+CJ package. Certainly I won't be outrinnign sportscars and leaping tall buildings in a simple bound, but I think adding all thest together plus some creative coursing of the Isles would allow me to keep up with my flying brethren. -
I've heard some people talking about utilizing certain powers/ combinations of power/ power/ IO combos to get the benefits of a movement power without an actual movement power, which I figure would make for a good "parkour" using character, so, does anybody know how I can go about doing this? note, the Character I have in mind is a lvl 50 MM so this will involve respecing, but if anybody knows how to do this from the ground up I'd be happy too.
I already know about Lightning Reflexes and quickness, anybody have any other ideas? -
Quote:I kinda feel lik my idea would increase the amount of suggestion and whiney threads, it's just noone really has tor ead them to know what's being directly presented, just the stuff at the top to know what's actually being suggested to the devs.In theory, I think that is a marvelous idea. However, the execution and reality of this coming to fruition leaves me in doubt. After all, at it's heart the S&I section would be remiss without hundreds of duplicate whiney threads.
Quote:Someone doesn't know their S&I forum very well:
Quote:However don't treat it as an Us v Them situation, and the devs don't listen, realize that it's your fellow players who are largely responsible for the way things are. -
Feel Like your Ideas are'nt being heard? well they're not. Not because the Devs don't care, but because the Devs can't hear them, they're being drowned out by everyone else's
The Suggestion threads are Chock full of posts not to mention discussion and spam. The Costume Request thread alone is 550 pages long as of this posting. Does anyone really think it's possible for Jay to do all of that? really? is that even fair to him? no it is'nt. You know what would be though? one page, with maybe twenty items and major features. That he could probably squeeze into two upcoming issues along with whatever major feature they have planned. We have new Forum software, and I know Vbulletin supports polling in threads. Which leads me to my suggestion for... suggestions.
Instead of one Thread that everyone can post in, Move the suggestions Forum into the Dev section where it'll get the most traffic, and put a series of Sticked, locked threads for every area ( Costume Peices, Custom weapons, Powers, power Customizations, QoL, AE, base Building/SGVG Features, e.t.c.) with one post only. That post would contain a list of Major Features that have been voted on and elaborated upon by the community. Now, instead of dreading even touching the crazy high amount of requests in the requests threads, the Devs will have about ten or so features the know they can do. What's more, these threads will better represent the needs and wants of the community as a whole instead of the needs of individuals. If everyone votes on a thread posted in the suggestions forum, then it can be assumed, but admittedly it may not always be the case, that what's in that thread is what a majority of the Fora would like to have in the game.
Another benefit of this idea is that instead of a thousand pages of "I want this!" with maybe a picture and a short description, There would be a short list of Very Detailed requests, suggestions and ideas. With a whole thread to hash out the details of a particular suggestion, what the Devs would get is something akin to a business proposal or project outline, with all the specifics laid out, and since the Devs are in fact, part of a business, this would possibly be more in line with how they themselves exchange ideas and thus easier for them to implement ideas presented here. -
@Premonitions On virtue Server
we're a Ninja-Themed RP vg that I'm trying to ressurect. The concept of our Base is it's underground on mercy Island and extends outwards from the sewers. I've accomplished some things, but I could really use some expert assistance. -
Okay, with Issue 16 coming out and the recent Science Super Booster an idea struck me. Follow me on this one. The Super Booster packs are designed to add a little extra fun and a few more options to character customization. The themes are there to give people with certain theme ideas more freedom. But in my opinion, even with all the awesome of things like High-collared capes, Combat auras, costume Change emotes and the super tailor, there's nothing there that would "make or break" the themes they represent.
To put it another way, there was nothing I saw upon getting the Packs that I needed to make my cyborg, or sorceror, or mad scientist characters.
There were already fancy hats, Crazy hairdoes, and robotic body part costume options in game.
The stuff there was very very nice, but all-in-all, it felt like, essentially what it was, some fun cosmetic changes. I used to think that adding special powersets to Booster packs would remedy this, but with Power customization an option now, and Specifically alternative animation options, I think I have a better idea. Implement unique animation sets for each pack, keeping in theme. To give some more detailed example...
Cyborg Booster pack: When it comes to cyborgs, I think nothing says it like weapons integrated into the body That is, guns and other devices built into the character. And nothing encompasses this idea more than the Arm-Cannon I'm sure lots of people have ideas for cyborg or robot themed characters who utilize it, and "settle" for a weapon-less blaster power combined with one of the bulkier robot gauntlet options. Allowing people who buy the cyborg Booster Pack the option of having all ranged (because shooting works so well with robots, much more than control powers) powerset animations switched out with one that involved one of these would make the Cyborg booster pack a must-have for those looking to make robotic characters.
I'm not going to presume to say it would be easy, but If it's possible the ideal situation would be one similar to current weapon-based sets, where you can choose from a selection of various types of Gun-hands. If not, Like BaBs, I think a more generic design would be most suitable, preferably black, not for a "Black is hardcore" reason but because it simply goes with anything(Imagine huge, dark-clad robot death-machine's hand transforming into a bright green gun).
The "Magic" pack: The obvious choice for the magic pack would be The Magic wand or staff for Control powersets that don't involve weapons
Like the arm-Cannon, this represents the theme of a Sorceror or wizard rather well and is Something many Magic characters lack. As a side note, possibly a "Talismans and artifacts" animation option for Traps and Devices. Instead of technilogical items, stone or organic items with magical appearances.
Science Pack: The obvious idea would be gadgets and chemicals for Control/Buff/Debuff powersets. Animations involving the charcater reaching in the vicinity of his/her waist, pulling a device or vial out, and throwing it. so basically the animations for devicess and traps but more specified.
for the Future, here's another suggestion.
For the "Primal" or "beast" booster pack that is likely in the works, An animation set for all non-weapon melee offense sets could be
"Feral Fighting" or something more menacing, what does that look like you ask?
Say hello to the poster boy of this style of fighting
basically a style with open handed claw swipes. This eliminates the need for a "clawless claw" change to the current claws powerset, and allows for a mass of options. -
I just want to say, concerning Dual Pistols, I really really really hope it comes pre-proliferated, that is, I comes available to all the ranged available classes. I have a MM I got for dual pistols and darkness, who's pets come in as a VG related bonus, I PLan to re-roll him as a dual pistol character when it comes out, but I'd hate to have to go through being on hero-side to get it, atht e very least, allow it to be available to one class on red side.
