I love Mass Confuse
Mind is a great control set, and in my opinion, nothing needs to be changed. Unless they wanted to give Mesmerize the ability to slot recharge in to it... That still irks me, even is I can slot multi-aspect enhancers in it to work on that. -
Hehe, controllers make for such fun, I suppose there really is no reason not to try them all, and figure out which works for me right?
-
Such good suggestions everyone!
I am so intrigued by so many of these combos, I guess I'll just have to make...them ALL -
Hmm, in my opinion Ice has the best Aura taunt...
I've never heard someone say DA holds that title.
Either way, any tank (save WP) can go without taunt, it's just a nice power to have sometimes. -
That is a great argument for a bit more a multiplicative view of trollers. And with a lvl 46 Ice/Sonic, I have felt the pain of not being able to use Ice Slick far too often.
Perhaps I, yet again, need to rethink. -
People sure are making good arguments for me biting the bullet and making a plant controller. I may have to do that.
Thanks guys! This has been a great help, I think I'm just going to role a bunch of things that sounds good and run TFs with all of them, so I can pick my favorite as time goes by!
My 4 new controllers are:
Earth/Storm (Project 1)
Plant/FF
Ice/Storm
Earth/FF
Though now that I've decided to go with these people...I feel like there is so much more I need to try...this is way too hard! -
It definetly seems like storm is my secondary, since I like manipulating the battlefield, and I like a lot of the powers, and I've got a lvl 32 storm def, so I have some experience with implementation as well.
now I come down to deciding between earth, illusion, ice, or plant. If someone can convince me to go some direction, i'd love to hear it! -
Ok, so it seems like Earth has been getting some good votes, but the fact that Illusion was even mentioned intrigues me greatly. What is the general consensus of Illusion paired with...well, anything....for TFs
-
What about taking earth and pairing it with storm? Would I be less effective for something like Posi? Where I wouldn't be getting real solid controls like SoC to back me up and I wouldn't be getting the massive debuffs from rad?
-
I don't really like how plant works(looks?), I believe it mostly to be visual reasons...I find it very ugly and displeasing to look at.
But I could give it another go, and if I did, what would be a good secondary? -
Alright guys, it's exactly as the name states. I want a controller than will be able to help control, and keep a team "supported" (in any fashion) well through the task forces.
I'll take any and all suggestions with a few stipulations. I'd rather it not be crazy IO dependant, since I want to use the TFs as a leveling device, not go back and hit them. And:
Primaries I don't want to use:
Fire
Plant
Secondaries I'd rather not use:
TA (have a mind/ta at 50 already)
Empathy
Preferably not radiation, but if I get enough votes for it, I'll do it.
Thanks guys, I'm looking to be the one that people want on their TF team! -
Anyone ever decide to give this a run? I've just started a duo with my buddy, he's playing a dark/thermal corr, and with his buffs (only the one thus far...we're the big level 6 atm) I'm feeling tasty resists. The endurance is killer though, so lvl 28 and 35 can't come soon enough I guess.
If anyone has tried this build before, or either really, I'd love some advice on what to get for sure, and what to avoid like the plague. Also, I'm more focused on holding aggro off of my corr buddy, than I am on building fury and doing absolutely ridiculous damage.
Thanks! -
General rule: The Best= Stone
But since that isnt up there, Inv/SS is a solid choice, you'll perform well with that, Ice/DM is supposed to be a great build, never tried it myself, but lots of defense coupled with -to hit for enemies...SOUNDS great.
You can't go wrong with the stuff you have up there. -
hmm, as far as money goes, I'm well off, but by no means a multi-billionaire, is capping defense quick and moderately cheap? if so, I'll go for it, but if it is anything well over probably, 350mil, it'll be pushing my money stores.
-
Will I need tough/weave?
And also, whats with the click based mez protection? please tell me that can be made perma. -
yeah...WP's taunt is less than half as effective, I believe it taunts even con enemies for something like 1.25seconds, where the others are something like 8 seconds.
Secondaries? Go for something with Mitigation built in to help, maybe stone, ice, SS, mace maybe.
Not Fire, and probably not EM either, according to some posts by people with more EM experience than me, EM is horribly broken, unless paired with dark.
Ice may be a good selection for armor, I always found my ice tank self sufficient, though occassionally I'd get roughed up by bad rolls. Stone doesnt necessarily NEED a kinetic, you can teleport in to groups to minimize the need for SB. Firey Aura is probably a bit weak for leading TFs. SD, I know nothing about, it's my next role up. Dark is heal reliant and an end hog...but can be tough as nails once you get tough(the power) and dark does at least have some resistance to everything, but little defense.
The only 2 armors I'd definetively rule out are Fire and WP. But I just don't like WP, I don't feel like a tank with it, and I feel too weak to too many kinds of damage with Fire.
My 2 cents -
Ok, here it goes, I was(and am) sitting at work, and I was hit with inspiration for my next character, that will begin upon my arrival at home! An SD/Ice Melee tank, but I know nothing about shield, and everything about Ice.
As far as I can tell, SD is frontloaded, like I wont have any room for any attacks before, I can't even estimate accurately, 22 maybe?
I'd like to augement my defense with Ice patch and freezing touch, and focus eventual IO-ing on Regen, effectively giving me the big 3 in survival.
How well will I hold my aggro? I'm not overly concerned with my "arrest"-speed, but I'd like to be able to solo comfortably if necessary. And as this player, am I primarly a small team tank?(I assume yes) or will I be able to fill the role of a big team tank?
I'm hoping to make this char my TF runner, capable of leading teams to victory.
*edited* For grammar! -
WP earns my ire just because of the weak taunt aura, so be warned, you'll have to compensate for that. As far as Ice goes, it's my favorite, and it's too bad on the endurance, and I'm sure you could get away with only QR, but stamina is always a great help regardless, and health only adds more regen to willpowers already great regen numbers.
Ice's tier 9 is fantastic now, right up there with footstomp.
and as for skipping Frost, if you must, go ahead, but it can be such a good power, I swear, my stone/ice loved it, as did my powerful yet shortlived invul/ice.
I may have to role a will/ice because you've intrigued me on this build. -
If this is your first char, I'd say just play and pick what feels good, get experience, play around.
Getting advice is one thing, but getting a full build will make it feel like it really isn't your character.
That being said, SS has great mitigation in it, so don't be afraid to pick up an attack that says it can knockdown enemies. *edit* KnockDOWN, not handclap...dear god...not hand clap
And Fire Aura doesn't provide you with knockdown protection for yourself, so you'll want to go the Leaping pool for you movement to get Acrobatics to cover this, or spend lots of influence you probably don't have an Invention Origin Enhancers to cover this hole. -
Stone/Ice, my fave, nothing ever kills me in any situation.
Granite is only a panic button. -
I really want a controller with storm as a secondary...I just...can't seem to pick a good one...
-
Love the guide, fantastic stuff. I have been trying to get Quarterfield done for ages...but no one runs it with me.
Congrats on the successful runs! -
dark/elec.
(I feel the need to plug this on all defendery things) -
Don't take the electric pet thing!
Other than that, you can't go wrong with storm, all the powers have their moments. Electricity is a great blast, though some will say underpowered, just make sure he takes Ball Lightning and Short Circuit for AoE damage and end drainy goodies.
