Storm/ Elec Defender

Hey all!

I'm playing a Sonic/MM Blaster right now, but my buddy, who's kinda shy, is playing a Storm/Electric Defender.
The only guide that I could see on that was from issue 6, or a pvp one from issue 8.

We're primarily going to be soloing or duoing together, and probably missions, radio missions, architect missions.... all PVE no PVP.

Is that old guide still pretty good? Is there any powers he should REALLY take, or really NOT take? Any suggested Pool or Epics?

Thanks very much for any help!

Don't take the electric pet thing!

Other than that, you can't go wrong with storm, all the powers have their moments. Electricity is a great blast, though some will say underpowered, just make sure he takes Ball Lightning and Short Circuit for AoE damage and end drainy goodies.

Looking for guides specific to your combo is not necessary, really

the [ur=http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Number=7371836]Thunder God[/url] guide is still pretty good, even though it's "pvp" oriented.

Storm/energy has a good overview of the storm set

As for powers to take/avoid, there's not a single bad power in either set, that being said, I usually skip snipes, so you can skip zapp, and, since stormies have so much control, tesla cage is not strictly necessary.

I personally would probably start with O2 boost over gale, since its mez protection and minor heal are usually more useful than the AoE knockback (particularly when you'll get so much more later) but other than that, not a whole lot to say, I suppose Thunder Clap is situational if you don't have anything to stack it with (such as, elec having a hold, rather than a stun)

For storm primarily the questions are: Gale vs O2 and Thunderclap or not.

Generally if you build with both Gale and O2 you'll either have to drop some blasts or skip some good storm powers once you take a travel pool and prep for stamina.

Thunderclap is a bit weak on it's own. A minion level disorient isn't all that great usually as minions are not much of a threat and die easy.

Stamina is a given.

As for travel powers, flight deserves consideration. Being able to hover around with hurricane just looks cool. Also being able to hover over the targets and summon a lightning cloud causes the knockback from lightning to be converted into knockdown.

As for epic pools, that's a personal choice, any of them can work fine. Personally I didnt like how the Dark pool powers synced with Storm powers, I was kinda blah on electric epic pool, and I dont find power build up to be all that great with storm/dark (maybe that's just me though). I went with Psi. The armor in that pool is great, and Dominate is useful. But even then the other powers in that pool arent that great with Storm either I think.

The electric blast pet isn't all that bad, honest. Lightening Storm has a base damage of 45 while Sentinel has a base of 35 and follows you around while Lightening Storm is stationary. For blasters it give them a pretty big defiance boost and defenders, frankly, need all the damage they can get.

With my storm/electric I took thunderclap and slotted all my electrical attacks with Energy Manipulator's chance for stun proc. Minions are stunned by Thunderclap and all my electrical attacks, including thunderstorm and voltaic, has a 10% chance to stack another 2 mags of stun on them which will daze LTs and Bosses.

Went with Dark Mastery epic. Since Thunderclap and Short Circuit require melee range anyway Soul Drain is a natural choice. On teams with a healer I kick on Opressive Gloom adding even MORE stun mags to my combo
