Quote:It certainly DOES matter what people thought, especially when people get mad enough about it. Especially on the CoH forums, people are very good about making "assumptions" truths, and remembering the devs "promised" them things they never did.which means it was never considered an exclusive part of GR by the Devs. It makes no difference what the people thought, it matters what they mean even if there was some kind of miscommunication somewhere.
Quote:Why can't we all just be happy that we are getting UM in April instead of having to wait till July to get it? This is completely blowing my mind! Did you also notice something else here? If you UM was part of GR you would have to buy the expansion to get it, correct? OK that being said they turned content that everyone thought you originally had to pay for and made it FREE. It's FREAKING FREE NOW. lol! What is there to complain about?
Quote:Also please note that in this announcement: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=211335
DS is NOT mentioned. You can only assume that they are NOT testing DS right now and that it is I17 ONLY, at least until we are told otherwise.
Quote:@PeerlessGirl: How is UM half the content of I17? It is a big part don't get me wrong, but I do not see that as being HALF the content. It is just large in size. And DS is still part of GR even if it comes out the same time as I17. You still have to PRE-PURCHASE GR to get it even then. They did that as a perk for PRE-PURCHASE.
I've just been doing this a long time, and I know what the wind smells like. That's just CoH, not counting the rest of my extensive software and MMO beta testing. -
Just to clarify:
I didn't subscribe to the loyalty program to get anything. I was subscribing anyway. My shiny badge pushed me over 500ish, and that makes me happy. I played around with DP for a while and enjoyed it. I'm going to try to go to Hero-Con next year, just because I want to go. I don't care that much about Demon Summoning in the grand scheme of things, though Ultra Mode is very important to me, and I'd enjoy testing and working on it, especially since I have SLI'd G92 9800 GTX+'s with 1GB of RAM each, and I think it would be a good mid to mid-high testing rig, especially if the SLI code needs tested.
I'm 3 months away from 60 month vet status anyway. I was in the I9-I12 closed beta's didn't get called for 13, 14, was in whichever one was "clopen" (15..or 16?) wasn't in the other, and as far as I know, am not in 17.
I'm not so much "complaining" as I was stating a few things, and the way I see them, having been here for a while, though am quiet the majority of the time..except for yelling at pohsyb :P
Either way, I don't relish people testing right now anyway. -
Weather it's a "true" violation by lawyerspeak, or weather it simply feels that way to most are points that aren't worth debating. You are correct, ASSUMING loyalty rewards recipients get in at SOME point prior to the end of CB, then they will have "kept thair word" but I think only the most die-hard fans would agree with the assessment and most of those likely would not. No, there was no guarantee we'd be in in wave one, and that's perfectly fine by me, I'll simply wait and see if it holds true for the entire CB or not. Wasn't an intent to start or continue an argument, merely to point out that assuming the roumers are true, and DS is part of it, that does indeed make it part of "Going Rogue" unless those definitions are as fluid as the definition for Ultra Mode being part of Going Rogue have been...at which point, it's really just up to the devs, and the Loyalty reward means nothing.

For the record,
a friend of mine found this topic while I was just about in tears during double XP weekend, being unable to play for half of it, and thought I was either having massive graphics card issues (after the rollback of the previous driver than Nvidia pulled last week), or hardware dying, or perhaps something else. Had we not found this topic I'd still be tearing my hair out. I use MSE and after adding CoH folder to the exclusions list and adding CoH.exe to the process exclusion list, the problem went away. I haven't gone back to test if it still does it if only one of those is enabled. I also fully intend to submit a bug, and possibly give NCSoft a call on it. It needs to be out there and known. For what it's worth 2 of my friends use MSE and don't have these problems, and one of them has an almost identical hardware setup as me, and both of us are running Win7 64-bit. The other is running Vista 32. It doesn't seem to follow any rhyme or reason. I've used MSE since I installed Win7 (even during RC 7100) and never had this problem, but I can't say when it began happening, as I hadn't missioned much before DXP in maybe 2-3 months, mostly just RPing.
This one is weird, that's for sure. I couldn't fight at all as my FPS would drop to less than 1, especially if a grenade was fired, or a massive explosion happened. Battle in general, and especially instanced missions would trigger it, and everytime it triggered, my netgraph would spike, that's why I spent a day believing it was just DXP crapiness. I began to think something was up when none of my other friends had any problems. Outside moving around and not in battle, everything was fine. The effect was less pronounced Hero-Side than Villain-Side (I dropped to 60 or 30 FPS, sometimes even 15, as opposed to 20, 10-12, or sub 5 villain-side). While my top end was about the same on both (150ish). Though admittedly it's harder to consistantly reach that CoV-side, as it always has been.
That's about all the info I can provide. -
While it's true i17 is NOT GR, it might be worth pointing out that half of i17s content was indeed conceived for GR, as at the time those slides were taken Ultra Mode was part of GR. I does seem like a bit of a snap-around if it has indeed been "removed" from the GR beta requirements due to it no longer being part of GR. The biggest offender here is Demon Summoning. If Demon Summoning is part of i17 CB right now, then technically that's part of GR (as you cannot get it without preordering/and/or owning GR), and thus it should allow "60+ month vets" and "Loyalty members" in. It's all splitting hairs, and ultimately up to the devs of course, but given that I know loyalty members were in the DP closed beta and DP is part of going Rogue, I certainly hope DS is NOT in the currently CB, othewise they're violating their own conditions. That's really the only comment I have to make. I'd love to get in, sure, but it's not the end of the world either way, starting a CB over DXP weekend was..less than well though out anyway, kinda glad I didn't have to split my focus, personally :P

Subjective (as that's kind of a subjective question): Well, no, not really. I mean, by watching broadcast I figured it all out easily enough, but some sort of In-Game NPC or message from Azuria would be an awesome way to communicate that info In-Game wise.
I also liked what seemed new and different (and undoccumented as far as I can tell) from the old events, Costume Salvage no longer drops from Door-Clicking, and instead drops from actual mob defeats, which IMO is a much better system, as, other than the mob-defeat badges, there was no "reason" for anyone to kill the spawns (except standard drops/exp/insps), and most years they tended to door-buzz and leave them, getting a lot of people killed, or drawn into "leftover" aggro. Forcing them to be killed to get the costume drops should help cut down on that, very good choice!
Overall, awesome event! Seems a LOT better than the previous years' events. Though hopefully it will spawn enough. Not counting the last 15 minute blitz, I had 3 events in 2.5 hours, give or take, that MIGHT be a hair too infrequent for casual players, not sure.
Thanks for letting me test and provide feedback! -

I don't have a Stone Armor character, though I made a character on Test (who will eventually make it to live) who could BENIFIT from being Stone Armor for her concept, but part of the precise reason I didn't is the appearance/nature of Granite, but more directly the way the rest of the Stone Armor set underperforms (when Granite isn't included in the equation) (see Castle's comments in the "A Buff for Stone" thread). If both of those things changed (especially the second one) I'd love to make the character into Stone on live, but as it is she's more effective as a Willpower (which is what she is on test). I've never felt it was a "valid" playstyle choice to have people take the other armors, then respec out of them, only take Granite, and for example, use Teleport to get around because the other armors "sucked so hard" and they didn't want to run them. If I ran a Stone character I'd like to treat Granite like a "tier 9 panic button" and only use it when needed, and run the others armors 90% of the time, but that would currently be detrimental to the power level of the set. (Yes more of a comment to Castle and possible changes than to BaBs, but both issues work together to turn me "off" of Stone Armor as a set). Maybe if when you overlayed all the toggles together, if they all added up, they'd "match up" to a full body/almost full body "rock" (or crystal or magma, or whatever) form something CLOSE to the current granite? maybe like the first toggle gives you a light coating up to your chest/neck in rock, the second adds some "shoulder pads/pauldrons" type things, and maybe part of a "helment" looking thing, and finally Granite finishes the look off by filling in the "gaps" and making it look like a full suit of "armor"? If something like that was done, I think it would be awesome. People could run all one "type" of armor, or maybe make one of the toggles a "magma" and one a "crystal" so that different parts looked different, however the wanted to play. I would be most pleased if whatever changes incorporated the entire "set" and not just Granite, but those whould have to be coupled with powerset changes that made it worthwhile/desireable to USE all the toggles in the set as well.
Hopefully that's sort of an answer. Basically, I'm for changing it, even though I don't HAVE a character, part of why is because of it's current state. -
No problem at all, if you STILL have any issues try using a program called Driver Sweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) (it's free) to clear your drivers off first, reboot (often times to be extra thorough you can do this from safe mode (so the driver's not running at all) though I've never found it nessicary. Just make sure you don't accidently clear your chipset or audio drivers as well. A lot of times if a version causes problems, and you 'roll back' to an earlier version, and don't remove the newer ones, newer files get left behind and it can cause your graphics drivers to start giving issues (when I rolled back to 185.85 from whichever version was the problem..I had to clean it, becase the problem came back). But generally updating to the newer drivers you don't need to worry with it. I've noticed of all my games, CoH is most picky about driver versions, it may be something to do with its age. If you need anymore help, send me a PM and I'll try to help out.

The black screen before login only happened with a certain couple of versions of NVIDIA graphics drivers, and only on Vista and Windows 7. Just upgrade to the latest drivers (as of this writing 190.62 (08/21/09) and your problems should go away. I know the early 188 and 189 drivers were doing it, the 185.85s don't and neither do any after mid-late 189. XP doesn't seem to be affected by this regardless.
-
Yeah, the 186 drivers exhibited this issue with CoH, the 185s do not, and the 190s do not. Glad I could help.
-
What version of the graphics driver are you using? That happened with me one driver version ago (I've always used DVI). Upgrading to the latest NVIDIA driver fixed it, as did rolling back to 185.85. I'm running Windows 7 RC but I know the "black screen CoH" issue happens on Vista as well, just not XP.

Quote:No,QUESTION: I no longer have to worry about my orders/sales things on the market getting deleted anymore? I could, as an example, cancel my account and be gone for 6 months, reactivate and find the stuff i had at wentworths/black market still there?
Sadly you cannot. Back before 13-14, if you didn't "interact" with the WW/BM interface for 30, 60, 90 days (one of those numbers) you would lose anything you had stored/posted etc (but I don't think you'd lose "collections" that you'd sold and stuff, but I'm not sure). Now however, as long as your account is active (and it may be 30,60,90 days besides, not sure) you don't lose anything on BM/WW, I do not believe this extends to having an inactive account (except that maybe you have a 60 or 90 day "grace period" but I'm honestly not sure anymore). -

Quote:As usual, I think someone missed the humor in BaBs post. He was being his ususal sardonic self, and making a comment that as soon as we all got nice shiney new forums, people starting doing evil, hateful (though perhaps funny) things with the new tagging feature, and that this is why we can't be given new things. As usual, all of BaBs posts have to be read with some degree of sarcastic dry humor in them, for me at least it's implied in everything he posts..that tends to help a bit. The point of his post was to make a joke.Come on, BABs -- you like to be the guy at the party that turns down the stereo? I really don't understand the point of this post, and frankly, don't see any tags in what you quoted that were worthy of it.
I personally like "condescending sycophants" "dreams crushed", "nerdrage herders" and "overinflated entitlement" :P -
Quote:Read the rest of my posts in this thread. You do know there is no official RP server, right? And while Virtue is an unofficial RP server there ARE people on Virtue (Many People I might add) That opt not to RP but tolerate and even entertain to an extent those that do.
If you do decide to go to CO I won't bother asking you for your stuff. You'll be back in a month to reclaim it. That's a promise.
1) I have no plans to go to CO, I said that IF CoH did something as stupid as a mega-server environment I MIGHT as WELL do that, because it's just the same to me at that point, as both games made stupid decisions.
2) I also mentioned a few posts down that there's no official RP server, so I covered that.
3) Trust me, I probably know more about CO than you do, and I agree with your assesment of it, I'll leave it at that. -
Quote:The only reason they're having DXP shortly or soon after is because the last one blew up so handily, and it's certainly the right thing to do. You can't really have them go inventing a new mechanic (doubling patrol XP) when they already have one (plain old DXP) to use.I just think that releasing a whole lotta proliferated sets, which means a lot of new toons, and then having a double xp weekend "shortly" or "soon" after is stupid. Why do all the proliferating and work when a lot of people, not all, are going to blow through those levels quick as hell. It's only going to lead to more ******** when "Well I got some prolifs to 50, when can we have some more prolifs dawg?"
Quote:What most people are really going to buy Going Rogue for? The new powersets.
The majority of people will be paying just to get at Dual Pistols, and little else. Hell, I'm pretty damn certain they could throw up Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning as a sort of mini booster. Hell you could probably even make a booster out of EACH, charge like 10-15 bucks, and they would more than likely make some good cash off of that JUST because people want dual pistols so damn bad. -
The way I understood it, you actually had to go to the NCSoft/CoH BOOTH, and then SIGN UP to be invited to the i16 beta while you were at ComicCon. Just going up there and talking to people wasn't enough, so if you didn't actually sign up, that's why you didn't get an invite.

Ghost_Vision:
Yeah, I was in i9 through i12, but did not make 13 or 14 (and didn't really participate in 10, cause it was all story-stuff related to Vanguard/Rikti Invasion and I didn't wanna spoil that) and I can vouch for it being a better process as far as more productive on bugs and things before it goes open, largely by open everything's done, and they're just finishing up the iron-outs. I'm looking forward to this one, but either way I'm guaranteed a slot in i17 which is the most important part (since I'm paid through next year) to me anyway. Though I'd really like a chance to test this one out, if not, I shall wait. -
It didn't help that i15's "Clopen Beta" was a massive mess, which I suspect will teach them better than to do those again, honestly I'd prefer they stuck to small-focus Closed Betas (regardless of if I get in or not), because it tends to turn out better issues; I'll just check my email and wait.

Quote:No, RP doesn't happen in broadcast on Virtue (except sometimes during RP in PvP zones), but I don't recall ever claiming it did, what I did say was we'd have a lot more griefing and Freedom-ized leetspeek in broadcast than we do now (Atlas Park excepted). You are correct most RP happens in local, team, and SG channels, but that doesn't mean I want everyone else having the potential to mess up my RP either.I rarely see roleplaying in broadcast on Virtue. I conclude most roleplayers speak in team, global channels, or in local. My serverless vision would not eliminate any of those option
Quote:I believe global channels allow those gates to exist much more readily than separate servers do. All of the "other" people we might not want to let into our communities can freely log onto and create characters on "our" servers right now. They cannot join my private channel freely.
yes, they can freely log in and create a character on "our" server now, but to do that they must take the effort to do it, for the express purpose of going there, either to grief, to RP, or to hang out with friends they know there (RP or not) the same is true if you use a server transfer now. But by dumping everyone into the same "pot" now all of those people are together, without any special "effort" to be there, just everyone dumped together.
There is a difference between starting a new game in serverless (i.e. Champions) and taking a 5 year old game, with 5 year old community/server boundries and trying to force them together, and it shouldn't be done. It will, at least personally, impact my enjoyment and my gameplay experience, and considering I'm on the fence as it is (though i16 and GR look promising) this would certainly push me over.
It is the primary reason I am NOT interested in champions, is the fact they're doing a single server archetecture. There are other reasons, but that is the primary reason).
Edit: There is also the fact that, purely from a business standpoint, it knocks NC out of selling character transfers, so that's quite a bit of money they wouldn't get, another reason I can be fairly sure they won't do it. -

you make a copy of your CoH shortcut that you already have, then add "-test" to the end of it (no quotes) to set it up for test. When you click it, it'll ask where you want to install, decide, and let it start installing.
If you don't want to spend hours waiting and downloading test, stop the download once it gets started, delete all the files in the test directory (not the directory itself obviously) then copy all the files from your CoH live directory over, then delete the checksum files, and let test go out and compare the two, then you only have to download 80-100 megs and run a verify as opposed to downloading for hours.
Hopefully this helps. -
Quote:There's that too, yeah, though generally in "other" games where that's been done, it causes many instances to spawn (upwards of 10-15 generally). So you probably won't see that sort of problem, but you're still going to see a ton of instances, and many of them would be maxed out at any given time (like going to RWZ or Peregrine on a weekend).I can think of one right off the top of my head, assuming instances aren't the norm for such a setup:
I absolutely do not want to log in, go to Cap, and see 587 people at the BM, 800 more in the MA, and various others wandering around all at once. Piower spam at those locations is already ludicrous with only a few dozen present at either at any given point on Pinnacle, at least for people without top-end systems. I couldn't imagine being able to visit that zone again with that many people spamming powers there.
