The Secret World is pretty good. Hitting the three day trial now and finding it pretty enjoyable.

Quote:Y'know, I get your ire, but Auto Assault was far from shovelware. Might wanna get your knickers out of a bunch and stop putting blame on the wrong games, my friend. The failing of this game wasn't Paragon's doing.
It was NC Soft's. If NC Soft actually put money behind the only successful MMO IP in the US it managed to stumble upon, instead of blowing hundreds of thousands on wasted ads and publicity stunts for shovelware like Auto Assault, we might have been in a different place.
If NC Soft had even a semblance of a marketing department, we would have seen them try to capitalize on every major mainstream superhero breakthrough of the last decade. Ads during Heroes and Smallville. Demo discs and posters in comic shops. A push with more comic companies to feature their characters in the game for cross promotion.
Instead, they did jack and squat. They sat there with their thumb up their *** even when given free shout outs by Big Bang Theory. -
We don't know for sure. All we know is the end date for the servers, November 30th. With any luck the forums will make it that long as well.

Quote:They were closed before that point, stop with the conspiracy theory. NCsoft already has enough to answer for without people trying to trump up more crap.Isn't THAT interesting? It's ALMOST like NCSoft doesn't want us worning GW2 players/potential players not to spend on money on micro-transactions, because they could lose it all on a whim from a corporate D****bag. They don't want us asking those players to hold a boycott or something until CoH is left alone. Looks like they've been playing this move for longer than the admit, and the are proving more and more they still don't and have never cared about their customers.

I understand what you are saying, but this is the fourth MMO I have been an active part of, and loved dearly, that NCsoft has pulled the plug on. At this point I just don't think it'd be smart of me to give them that opportunity again.
-
It took them forever to ressurect it though. Not that I am complaining, I loved Earth and Beyond and felt they pulled the plug to soon. But its something to hope for, if all current plans go south.

Unless I misunderstood, if you are a VIP you will be remaining VIP until the end.

I am sorry this happened to you, and everyone at Paragon. It's complete bull. But thank you. For all your time and effort, for all of your heart and soul. It showed. I wish you the best in life.

I logged into the forums like I always do, and saw the marketeer post. Something to the effective of "How can we come out ahead even after the end?" I rolled my eyes, thought to myself "Some other stupid doomsayer, CoH isn't ending anytime soon." But it left an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. So I searched the forums just a little more...and there was Zwillingers announcement. I was to stunned to do anything other then stare at it in horror.

Quote:Here's the problem with that line of thinking: City of Heroes was still profitable, and its not hard to find that out. No, it wasn't a massive profit, but they weren't losing money on it. How do you spin that to investors? "Reallocating resources"? Because they canned all of Paragon.Again, they were faced with a Sophie's Choice moment: which of your MMO children are you going to give up just so the rest (along with your parent company) can survive? Looking at the numbers it doesn't make sense to give up the better performing titles. CoH was tied with GW1 as the rock-bottom performer and the success of GW2 has pretty much guaranteed the survival rate of GW1 (for now anyway).
Meanwhile NCsoft is operating in the red; that's a frightening prospect for investors so they had to do *something* to get their bottom line back in the black or risk losing investors, a company buyout and/or going out of business permanently if the negative profit margins continued. I wish they'd waited one more quarter before acting this hastily as GW2 sales would've saved the day but they didn't - mostly likely because they couldn't afford to...
I don't envy the decision they had to make - nor do I like it - but it is what it is.
It was a stupid move. Period. It was a knee jerk reaction to a bad quarterly to make it look like something was being done to 'cut costs' that is going to COST them. It's absolutely, bottom of the barrel retarded. There is no excuse for that level of stupidity. I'm pissed off that some monkey in a suit can go "QUICK! I NEED TO LOOK BETTER! FIRE EVERYONE IN THAT STUDIO AND SHUT THEM DOWN, SO THAT WE LOSE MONEY BUT HEY AT LEAST IT LOOKS LIKE I DID SOMETHING!" -
Quote:"No! My toy! I am not playing with it but you can't have it! I might play with it later!"so... We don't want to continue on with the game, but we don't want anyone else to have it? That's like.... The epitome of greed.
I will definitely be keeping tabs on this. Hopefully something can be established. Will support you guys all the way, however i can. -
Get my soldier to fifty. Get some more incarnates for my Merc/pain. Try out one of each AT until at least twelve. I dunno. THings I want to do, but now I don't really feel like doing because it is so sad.

Just one more thing we won't get to see now. I am sorry, Arcana.

Quote:Thats how I am looking at it. Maybe I am being childish, maybe I am just being emotional and angry, but I think it's utter bull that they did that to Paragon Studios. Like I said before, I'll speak with my wallet.Yeah, the bit in the official statement about "those of you reading this after the fact" tells me that the vast majority of the dev team didn't know they were unemployed until they showed up for work this morning.
It's like the amount of themselves they poured into this game didn't mean a ******* thing to NCSoft when it came to kicking them out in the street.
NCSoft's official statement is exactly that....an official statement designed to cover up the fact that they did this in the most reprehensible, cowardly and callous way possible.
News flash mother*******......we ain't buying it. Or anything else you're selling for that matter. -
I keep logging in and then just...logging out. Went and purched on top of the Atlas Globe. Can't seem to make myself do much else.
I have decided that, beyond being angry about being shut down, I have another reason for never, EVER spending another red cent on an NCsoft product. The treatment of Paragon studios, some of the best developers I have ever had the joy of knowing. These fine people were let go just like that. No prior warning. Nothing. Just gone. And I think that is the worst crime of all. While yes, we all lost something important, they lost both that and their jobs.
NCsoft can go **** itself. -
So thats really it. They are all just gone, just like that.
