CRAP, I would lose access to my masterminds if that happened! I do not like where this is going. I guess I have a month at least, but now I am REALLY nervous.

Quote:I'm going to be honest. I don't know that I'd like for Blizzard to get ahold of it. They have a habbit this point of changing things to a radical degree in order to attract completely new customers. That might not sound so bad, but then you wake up four years later to something completely different then what you started with. Maybe that wouldn't happen with CoH, maybe some people will argue it already has. I just worry about where it'd end up. Still, I'd be grateful for the save.COH under Blizzard would not necessary be a good thing. Blizzard has a habit of re-working classes and such at a whim. If they were to get it they would probably dissect the game and redo a new version altogether. Which means we probably wouldn't even see it for a couple of years.
I have to say, right now I am not a huge fan of NCSoft, however I cannot ignore what they have done. If it wasn't for them we would not have the game we are all talking about, they invested a crap-ton of money into Paragon Studios which allowed for them to almost double thier staff and resources, they practically made power customization a reality. Yes right now they suck IMO. However it doesn't automatically undo all the good they did in the past for the game.
Also, I wouldn't take what Smedly said 100% to heart. He may very well be telling the truth, but I've got an inkling that that sort of thing wouldn't be public knowledge, and that they'd want to keep it that way. May be totally off base with my guess though. -

I'll tell you upfront, you probably won't find another one that itches your scratch in the way that CoH does. In the event that you do try to find another, that is. But there are some good ones out there. My suggestion, and this is just if you ever do decide to get back into them, is to try some free trials. Don't just listen to what everyone else is saying, if something catches your attention then give it a shot. People have a tendancy to try and knock down any MMO or game that isn't their personal favorite.

Quote:At least he is willing to admit its just his opinion and that he knows its just his bias speaking. I respect that a lot more then I respect unwarranted negativity like this. No, he's right. CO *is* ugly. Beyond ugly, it's fugly. It's also insulting with its terrible attempts at comedy, with an entire game written by people who think superheroes and comic books are idiotic. CoH does show its age, but it's a decent-looking game.
I'll second that SW:TOR is boring. It's just incredibly tedious. Just thinking about it fills me with ennui.
And Fantasy-themed games just don't excite me. It just feels like well-chewed meat. A Fantasy novel has to be really good to interest me at all, and so far no Fantasy game I've found rises to the level of even the most mediocre Fantasy novel. -
Quote:Attack toys win for having rocket launchers, and for cloning themselves FOUR TIMES. SO you get five little attack toys running around.I made a Champions character once who worked mainly via pets, a few years ago.
I had a fire breathing demon, a very Tron-looking robot/golem, and I think another pet as well, plus some buff powers to help them out.
Checking the wiki...
Arcane Sorcery - Ritual of Arcane Summoning - this was the "Tron Golem"?
I think each magic tree had a Ritual of Blah Blah summoning power, and the "Unbound Ritual" advantage let you summon it even with other pets. By default they're mutually exclusive.
Tyrannon's Familiar did something too, was it an Earth Golem type creature?
Anyway, I had three pets most of the time. Halfway there. I explained it all as just telepathic illusions
Then there were Attack Toys (uggh!) and Support Drones for the techy pet controller.
There were some direct controls that popped up, like "Attack this target" but I never mastered them. And it was a while ago like I said. -
Quote:http://www.champions-online-wiki.com/wiki/SummonI've been looking at the powers, and have yet to find anything similar to a "pet" class.
The upside is that if you are freeform then you can take ALL THE SUMMONS. The downside is that they don't have the theme's that the Mastermind has. Another upside is that the healing pets are REALLY good at what they do.
Otherwise, the Gadgeteer ((Or tinkerer?)) archetype is as close as you can get, and that gives you munitions bots/Attack Toys and Support Drones.
There is something to be said for having five robots, an angel, a demon, a golem, two wolves ((Or bears or raptors, you pick)) a lightning wolf ((Same as the regular wolves, changeable)) an angry shadow, and a djinn following you around blasting things to powder. -
I don't think the remaining Paragon employees can do that. I don't think they can make any changes at all right now. Though Zwill did unlock messaging for all forum accounts.

Quote:As little offense intended by this as possible, but you sound unpleasable to me. You're just finding things to complain about ((Star Wars small and boring. Really? Did you even get past the tutorial planets? And CO. Ugly. You've been playing CoH for years...)) and aren't even really trying to get into anything.Since the CoH pacifier was knocked from my mouth I've been frantically searching for one of the same size, color, and quality.
DCUO... no. CO I can't even spend 2 minutes in since I find it so kitten-murderingly ugly. The style just isn't my style I suppose. SWTOR feels small and boring, Secret World feel buggy and unsubstantial. Everything else is elves and dwarves which simply doesn't appeal to me. The only one that looks enticing at all is Guild Wars 2 but it's still elves and dwarves and the guilt of buying it would stab at my brain.
I have a hard time staying in CoH now knowing that it's ending, especially since I was so eagerly awaiting an i24 that will never happen.
I guess I'll go play Mass Effect again.
On the one hand, I can't blame you. CoH is one of my favorites. But on the other, you've gotta give a little sometimes. -
Quote:How are you...uh...what...what are you doing exactly? That fight is relatively easy. Block when he does micromunition, get out of the way of the way of the satelite cannon, and push z or a number key when he holds you. Its a little more difficult on melee characters, but doable.I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. I gave it one more chance, and .. okay, the tutorial boss still killed me a half-dozen times (I created a new account instead of using a character slot on my wife's account, so I had to go through the Tutorial again), but I wasn't dying to random enemies as much. I'd just gotten Invulnerability when I signed out to give the wife her computer back.
It's still a solid Meh for me, but I guess that's an improvement. The system requirements probably make it not really an option more than anything else. If they had a Mac version....
(Also I really wrote that ranty post in the middle of the night here, when I'd been awakened from my sleep by troubled dreams, and was tired and grumpy. I do actually like Dofus, even though I get frustrated with it at times) -
Quote:...you've just reached troll status, and pretty hard core at that. This is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen you say.
First of all, if a 747 dropped on your house (and we'll presume that you were crushed), you wouldn't say anything, you'd be dead.
Secondly, if a 747 dropped on your house, that would be a pretty rare occurrence, one difficult to predict or avoid. Online games get cancelled not infrequently, and one would thing someone with your head for numbers would have realized long ago that this game was a marginal proposition at best. If you didn't think that this happening was a significant possibility, then you had your head stuck in the sand. This is not a 747 dropping on your house, it's you walking along the railroad tracks with the headphones on. You can go on for quite a while that way, but no one is going to be surprised if you get hit by a train.
Finally, you can't kill a game. It's not alive. A more non-pejorative term would be "cancelled." Of course, then your bad analogy would make even less sense, and you wouldn't be able to raise the rabble against the "killers of CoH." Now I know this usage can be defended as vernacular. Maybe I'm giving you too much credit for choosing your words. -
Quote:Because I enjoy both for different reasons. If the rumor is true, it's not really Cryptic that's doing it. It is their new parent company. Cryptic, like Paragon Studios, doesn't get to make decisions like that for themselves because they don't own the property.
My question is, why would anyone be playing CO in the first place, if they were still playing CoH? -
Quote:They will also actively go out of their way to assure you that your job is not in danger. The last thing they want is a mass exodus before they are ready to can everyone.This.
It's true.
It's also been my complaint with companies in general, but it's how it goes.
Want to quit? Give us 2 weeks notice.
We want to lay you off? We'll give you a days notice.
Most I ever had on a layoff was 1 day notice that turned into a two day notice "Oh. We need you for one more day, so we're going to lay you off in two days instead of tomorrow."
They do this because workers (generally) will slack off once they know they're being laid off. They'll be to busy fretting about a new job, sulking, just not caring anymore, and some if they have the ability, will use those paid sick days. -

Champions Online is the closest I've found so far, and thats a mish-mash of different summons. Its still very effective, and...at least...similar. Trust me, I've looked. Otherwise you get the staple "one summon". Necromancers in Guild Wars 2, thinking on it, can get a small army as well.

So people aren't allowed to be hopeful that a beloved MMO might be saved? Right. Makes perfect sense.
What happened to the devs is terrible. But that wasn't SoE what done it to them. And I don't think we should feel guilty about being hopeful about the prospect of at least getting the game itself back. I think this is just sheer spite talking. -

He isn't being literal. I am not sure if you are purposefully missing his point, or if it just whizzed past you.

Quote:Earth and Beyond, Auto Assault, and then Tabula Rasa for me. If this were my first rodeo I might be a bit more forgiving. But its more like...at this point I'd be an idiot for playing anything they put out.This.
But I'd also like to add that NCSoft has done much worse in the past.
I used to play Tabula Rasa alongside City of Heroes, so I think I've got plenty of reason to be bitter with NCSoft. When TR died, I vowed that City of Heroes would be the only NCSoft game I'd ever touch again, because I thought it was old enough and big enough to survive this kind of crap.
I was wrong, and NCSoft won't be getting any more of my money, no matter how cool their latest titles turn out to be. -
No. Not when their only excuse is "It doesn't fit into our restructuring." Maybe when or if they ever come out with a GOOD reason, maybe then. But in the meantime, they've just killed off one of my favorite MMO's, and fired the best studio that I know of.
I get what you are saying, but please stop asking people to not be angry at the people responsible for killing CoH in the end. -
Quote:If you aren't subbed or aren't buying, then you aren't financially supporting. That doesn't mean you haven't in the past, it means you weren't currently. Thats not even debatable. I'm not even saying its a bad thing, people have reasons for not wanting or being unable to sub or buy. I just don't quite understand why people feel the need to make excuses for not, or trying to pretty it up. It's not like it even matters.Previous page....
That said, I'm glad you agree that it wasn't the subs (or lack thereof) that got the game cancelled. Sadly others seem to think differently, and I dislike the idea that some of the forum regulars here are judging people like myself on the current colour of our names.
Oh, and it's good to see Forbin is as intransigent as ever. I remember having a big long argument with him about... something... a couple of years ago. Probably soloable TFs. Nice to know some things are still the same - even at the end of things.
But like I said, it's moot. That's not the reason. CoH was still making money, Paragon was still profitable. -
Quote:And I honestly don't think it was the subs at all. Yes, maybe if we'd had several more thousands of subs we might not have gotten axed. But maybe we still would have. Maybe NCsoft was just looking for a reason to get rid of City of Heroes. Either way it doesn't matter, whats done is done.Good idea, I was just about to point out that it wasn't ONE person not paying to play the game that caused these problems but HUNDREDS at least, more likely THOUSANDS that weren't paying to play. And again I'm not including the Prems that supported the game thru the store. Just the deadbeat freeloaders that weren't spending a dime.
