im assuming your dualboxing? Well, its a decent plan for a regular character i guess too

so, fitness pool was wholly omitted in this plan, including 1 slot to go to Health
Hurdle gets a 1 Jump IO
    Health gets 2 slots - the NumCon:+reg/+rec & Miracle:+rec
    Stamina gets 1 EndMod IO

  2. the only prob w/ spam-setting a power is that takes however long for the activation animation, and cuts into your attack strings. Depending on the true effectiveness of the power and what other offensive powers lacking, it may be a feasible tactic or not...f

what is WoC, like a 5ft pbaoe? To gain effectiveness, you'll need a clusternuck of mobs tightly around you. Otherwise, if you only have 2-3 mobs tight on you, players may be looking at you weird as you attempt to do chance damage vs directed damage by offense powers...

lol, you're a maniac! Tested it and looks like chance time does reset. Used Snowstorm and IS: Chance for damage proc, was able to reset it within 10seconds....estimated around 7-8seconds

Caltrops Afraid effect only lasts 1 second though, so it wears off a second after they run out of the patch (I'm not sure why it doesn't just use "Avoid" like Rain of Fire or Ice Storm).

What is happening when they continue to run, or run when hit by a DoT is their morale breaking. (maybe in the case of Caltrops the "Afraid" effect gives a higher chance of a morale break, which means they keep on running). Castle outlines it here, and a lot of players are reporting that it seems to be happening a bit too often for their liking alright.
    hmmm, good cover!
  7. well, catrops have always caused scatter effect, but not fear.

Your mortar is probably causing that behavior. If its accidental programming, maybe the there's a disconnect w/ the mobs getting debuffed by an "object" instead of a player.

If it is purposeful, its to spread out those who are affected, and counter the chance of the same mobs gettind debuffed continuously by an object... alot of objects are just pbaoe... the mortar is range targeted....

err, ive tried it before on a pair of Ice controllers, both w/ Arctic Air and World of Confusion running, both pbaoe confusion stacks. VERY hit & miss and short-lived. This was quite some time ago, so maybe they've cranked up the effectiveness. I was extremely disappointed. With some sort of proc, WoC might be something, but stand alone, its awful from my experience and testing.....

lmao - dood, just what is happening is making me laugh so hard. I know it was all unintentional. The funny thing is, for the short time i got back in (like a week) this is the most defender forum activity ive seen lol. I SO swear that the Defender forum was dead. The Offender topic just attracted and sucked everyone back into interest. The sad thing is, the some threads in the Archetypes & Powers are lamenting about the LACK of Defender AT's, and how much they are in demand these days lol....

Errrr, whether you consider yourself as a Defender or an Offender, PLAY your AT. You in demand!

With a team of 4 players or more, Defenders receive no damage bonus.

The change now actually does place the Defender ranged damage output at medium when compared to the Blaster's ranged damage rating of high. The damage boost now makes soloing Defenders a far less painful experience.

    * * *

The term offender has been in use for far longer than the Inherent power change. Offender, for the most part, was used to refer to a player who sacrificed powers for team-mates in favor of powers for themselves. For example:
    • An Empath without Heal Other, Absorb Pain, Clear Mind, Fortitude, or Adrenalin Boost.
    • A sonic without Sonic Barrier, Sonic Haven, Disruption Field, or Clarity
    • A Cold Dom without Ice Shield, Glacial Shield, or Frostwork
Players would use the power choices freed up by not taking team-mate oriented powers in order to take powers that buffed themselves, such as the leadership pool, the fighting pool; or for powers that had good IO slotting capabilities, such as the concealment pool.

Now, I'm not going to make any calls on whether or not playing a Defender as a damage class is a good idea. There's a reason the attacks are a secondary set.

I would recommend that if you want to attempt to play a Defender for damage, you go with Cold Dom / Ice Blastfor the strong debuffs, opportunities to rack up on recharge buffs, and hard-controls.

I would also recommend that you keep a dual-build handy with the team-oriented powers ready.
thanx for the inherent update - wasnt aware of that since i'd been gone for 7 months...

lol, unknowingly stepped into a bear-trap. Now all this debate, subjective idealism and interepretation of what an "Offender" is, will all seep out. This WAS buried at some point...

Never have I heard of an Offender being refered to one who gimps thier own primary. Old school Offenders were Kin/Psi, Kin/Rad, Rad/Psi, Rad/Rad, and Storm/Ice. When the newer sets came along Kin/Archery and the biggest one of all Rad/Sonic. You Phire, my friend are a Offender (Cold/Ice) and a wonderful example of one if I do say so myself.
I guess the stories were true the Defender forums eat thier own =(
sorry, im not ashamed because i dont share your viewpoint.

ok ok, lets not get too bi-polared and extremist in our views lol. Obviously you have your interpretation and i have mine. The silly thing, we all had argued about WHO's definition is right lol....

D3's became a noticeable "offender" (ive got a pair too!) because of their solo ability w/ the strongest toggle debuffer DN, stack that w/ Tar Patch and Soul Drain. Others started to try to squeeze more offense out of the defenders and possibly dropping their support structure. There were a few posters so radical that they literally left their primary empty, in attempts to compensate their performances vs Blasters. Come on, what self-respecting defender is gonna complain about a blaster out-offensing you? Yet, the select few radicals kind of gave "Offenders" a bad rap cuz they seemed to be the loudest, in the most obnoxious ways.

IMO, a defender (and any other player playing an AT) will still yearn and push their offense through their support, and possibly maximize it w/o sacrificing key support powers. This is still a DEFENDER for pete's sake, imo. Nothing wrong in making the most out of your offensive powers.

IMO, a defender investing heavier in their "Secondary" set or even sacrificing key Primary powers in order to be more offensively off-balanced, is an OFFENDER.

Now this isnt all bad, either. It DOES get bad when a bad "OFFENDER" seeks acceptance and pushes his build in a Defender forum, when the general core of players who play defenders, play defenders as a support character, in principle.....

I dont consider myself as an "Offender". Maybe the "Offenders" do in their viewpoint - im fine with that. And it just may show the difference of our definitions.
This weekend, i finally flipped Aim into Frostwork - still became a real pain in the *** respec.

As in power choices in Primary & Secondary -
    ALL primary powers selected
Ice Bolt, Ice Blast, Ice Storm, & Blizzard are the only Secondary powers.
Just saying that im not really that offensively invested thru Secondary

In the end, its up to the player to dictate how their character is gonna be worked out. Everyone has ownership over their different playing style and setup. Just dont expect approval from another because they have their own ideals

lol, i end up spending a 1/2hour resetting the fracking powerbars. Dont ya think there should be a client-side note made for your power bars? I believe there are client-side notepads done to save your options, including some affecting your GUI, costumes, and your character lineup in server.

Good idea is do a screenshot of yoru character pre-respec w/ GUI on, and use that visual to help you place back your powers quickly

    hahahahah, good point

has anyone brought this up to the devs, as this change undermines the most useless AT inherent in the game?
  16. ohhhhhh, good grief! Not the "Offender" debate again! lol
errr, in a nutcase, generally someone trying to squeeze as much offense out of a defender as much as possible, in the meantime abandoning the strength of the primary to an extent....

These days you can have an Offender, hero side. Its called a Corruptor.... you'll wanna roll one if you want to be a true offensive version of a defender....
  17. Wow, this will cause a retweaking of ALOT of toonz for everyone lol....
might not affect many MM's though

those who sell respec recipe's just MIGHT want to hold them till a day after i19!

The problem with basically gaining 3 more power choices is that there's still gonna be the same amount of power slots! So its a double-edged sword for those who got their build set in stone!

for my cold/ice/dark defenders, new pickups will be -
    1. Tactics, shave off SnowStorm's (IS: Chance damage & End IO) End IO slot to double up End for Tactics. Tactics will be constantly running, unlike SS
    2. Infrigidate - shave a slot off of 3slotted Health(filled w/ uniques), and bump the +Regen into Frostwork, 1slotted. Use slot to 2slot Infrigidate w/ 2 ACC IOs
    3. Resuscitate - great to be a rezzing Cold Defender. Adds another dimension to the support role. Easy as 1-slotted recharge

    Ice shields

    heh, thats a great thought...

on the other extreme - meh shields are PINK! So all the tough guys are stuck with pink ice around them! Most dont mind, but once in a bit you'll get a chat comment like.... You've gotta be Kidding me! hahahahah

trying to get them as translucent as possible is a very practical thought also.... less distracting colors onscreen and possibly less work for the videocard

actually, thats very true, and answers to the core dynamics of this game. This is greatly enhanced further by Going Rogue and with the intermingling of the heroes and villains.

What ive seen, for the short time i got back in, is some team leaders picking up villains over heroes, since villains are inherently more offensive and less defensive than heroes, as how the powerset primaries and secondaries dictate. Since alot of advanced characters have established defenses for themselves, they can get away with lesser of a defensive scheme as a team overall and get away with it, as long as there's a key support player. Just like a Brute should turn out to be an excellent tanker w/ a shield/cold buff on him from defender/corruptor.

Stand alone, ive seen brutes faceplant out kind of easy in real tough situations, but ive also seen some top players w/ seriously IO'd brutes stand strong in situations where even an average tank would drop. And maybe teams will be picking corruptors over defenders to squeeze in more offense and still get the defender buffs/debuffs, in secondary form. After some time, devs may do some slight adjustments if things get too off-balanced in AT selecting.
