also, no offense to Z, but i might have a little more faith in the devs supposed "interest" in pvp by making this thread if someone like, say, posi, the lead dev who screwed up was having/joining this discussion and it wasn't the new community rep.
we lobby'd ocho for years to talk to the devs and look were that got us. -
the most fun i ever had pvping were base raids. i caught the tail end of them and my time spent was far too short.
post i13, the most fun was when we were able to scrap up enough people for kickball, it was the closest thing we could get to old pvp as possible, but even then...
i will say that getting us to recite our best pvp moments seems rather pointless.
for instance, alot of us in this thread enjoyed base raids. however, i woudlnt' want the devs to reimpliment base raids under this system. and thats the problem, it has remained to be seen that the devs will give that kind of attention, or if they do, listen to the player feedback given while testing any implementation.
the feedback has been documented, it just a matter of "when are they going to listen to it" as barrier said, if the devs want to make progress, it'd go a long way with the players to have something to show they're not bluffing. -
well i mean, you don't need pana's or shield walls on a stone for pvp. in fact you'd probalby be better off slotting something other than pana's and 4 of the 6 shield walls (atleast since the last time i looked) only get up to a few hundered mil for the top ones (the trip and def/end) but again, you could slot lotgs or something and not notice a significant different.
i mean as a tank, especially something as immobile as stone, your at your most effective when you're taunting and webnading everything that moves and you dont need those top tier sets to accomplish that.
as for pve, yea those sets are good, but with the current market being as inflated as it is, they really aren't worth the price for the overall increase that you'd see from something you could get more easily (shield walls vs. lotgs, pana's vs numina's or doc wounds). the only place were'd you see a sig increase would be when you ex. -

drop rate is somthing like 1:70ish REP WORTHY kills. and there is a 5 minute timer inbetween rep worthy kills.
hero vs hero doesn't do anything to the drop rate.
but it also should be noted that is an extremely common misconception amongst carebears that pvp builds are just loaded with pvp IOs which isn't true at all.
most pvp builds don't use any pvp IOs or very few. you don't need to invest billions in pvp ios to have a decent pvp build. its entirely more dependent on your powersets than the build due to i13 -
nono.
it's got more to do with no one in the current pvp community being as pro as dahjee -
Quote:just tested this and it only seems to be working with mire and hasten.you could always use your 'heal other' clone....oh wait, wrong half of the AT.
from what i recall fluffies carry over the buffs you have when they spawn. so they get some hasten, eclipse etc. for some of their life.
eclipse doesn't carry over. -
you dont' need kb procs. intergration gives kb res out the ***.
but you always need more hp. because while you might be capped hp while in DP, you can't have it up all the time. its impossible with DR. so you want to have as much hp as possible outside of DP. and i believe healing bonuses get hit pretty hard by DR.
id also probly change teh slotting in fire blast to deva's acc/dam trip and quad with maybe a nuc and a apoc and glad jav proc you still wanna get some accuracy slotting your attacks as well(unless you're gonna go nerve alpha changes things abit) -
Ya know this might be me and I've been kind of skimming this thread but
In the last few weeks I've been playing my ws, the biggest problem I've had is that I cannot keep extracted essence alive. Picked up taunt, slotted res/def procs but doesn't seem to help so my question is would it be completely out of the realm of possibility for the devs(assuming they change pets if they get a look) change photon series's and extracted essence to a volt sentinel type of pet? It seems dumb to me that when your dps is that dependent on a pet, it has the ability to draw as much aggro as it does. Atleast something like a controller has the ability to heal or buff their pets and their dps isn't even nearly as dependent on their pets as Khalds are, assuming I'm reading this thread correctly. Maybe change them to share your human form buffs? Just a thought -
Kinda
When i said proc alot I meant damage procs. Slotting - rech procs disorient procs and I think I saw a self heal and end drain proc in there, those don't do anything to help you. Damage process are the way to go. Why? Because it's the most effective way to add extra damage while bypassing DR. I can't see your hp but imam assume it's somewhat high but I'd trade the adjusted targeting in BU and tactics for gaussions.
You might take out those slots in melt armor sine it's such a weak debuff and six slot your heals 3 num 3 miracle for extra hp. The healing bonus is rather ineffective. also I'd put in a + perception proc. -
at a glance, pick up hasten instead of furry, spines isn't in that need of an extra attack and the root time for the power isn't worth it. and you want that rech.
drop weapons for something like fire. it does alot more damage from range. or just take it redside then back to blue and pick up soul for shadow meld.
it looks like you just used 1 full set for each power, which i would highly advise against. frankenslot like your life depends on it. because it kinda does. also, don't use pvp sets just because they are that. really the only ones that are useful are the ones that give HP bonuses, range bonuses or damage procs. -
/jranger
but i've found there is very little reason to roll a defender anymore since the different mod numbers for de/buffs isn't that noticable and corr's do more damage. and vigilance is a useless mechanic. i suppose if you're just hellbent on playing FF or empathy but otherwise...
for instance i was waiting very patiently for a fire proliferation so i could roll TA/fire but ended up getting bored and went corr. -
Quote:everyone knows the answer because it's already been given indirectly by the devs over the last 3 years :PSee, everyone knows the answer.
Had there never been pvp in cox, it's hard to see how it would've been detrimental to the overall game given the vacant status of most pvp-specific content from shortly after a lot of it was first released.
It's a niche feature in a niche mmo, bottom line.
detrimental to the game? not by any means. however it very nice aspect to the game, esspecially this game since the pace cox pvp is so much faster than anything ont he market currently (in spite of travel suppression) which gives it a very very unique take on pvp, and it brings in a fair amount of people. see ex libris's numbers on pvp before i13 dropped.
you don't need pvp specific content for pvp to thrive for a long time. you do however need a system that isn't broken and makes sense, which is what anyone asking for anything pvp related wants. it's gotten to the point were pvper's don't need some gimicky mini game like content to go along with pvp for it to be fun, straight up pvp is enough in this game. -

slotting for resistance/defense on a regin is really dumb. you won't get much out of slotting for res, and any defense will get DR'd down and overcome by the larget amount of tohit floating around in RV.
your best way to slot defensively, is to slot for HP. lots and lots of HP. get around 80ish rech to get DP up as much as possible. i'd also probably pick up phase with dropping those two powers, because with the way the no phase works, you can hiber for 15 seconds then break it and phase for the other 15. or visa versa, which can be handy.
don't slot brawl, for the love of all that is holy.
and in pvp, proc's are the way to go. if you're having trouble slotting something, my default is to use 2-3 nucleo's and 3 procs, you'll do more damage than using only 4 crushings or 4 kin combats.
i'd probalby just drop fighting all together and get leadership for tactics. you'll want some perception and the tohit is nice. can also use maneuvers for another lotg proc or assault for some damage.
drop acro, you don't need it with intergration.
barb swipe does more damage than lunge, so i'd pick that up instead. and i'd also probably six slot all the attacks you 4 slotted. namely the powers that'll do damage. you'll be kiting so impale and spirit shark should be slotted better and ripper as well for targets that get naded/mezzed.
also, if you find yourself not doing enough damage, you don't have to go levi. its nice for hiber, but if you have phase and mog your pretty much set between those and heals. fire mastery has some nice damage, char does crazy damage and fire blast does nice damage as well, both from range. -
in practice however, most of those bonuses are useless because they either get DR'd down or are or aren't worth the slots.
for example, the slow res you used in your example is pointless since slows are already incredibly weak and very rare. -
Quote:not necessarily true. people slot for accuarcy, but not extra. They tried that. It's called Elusivity, and it was unbelievably overpowered when they first implemented it. For about 6-8 months it was damn near impossible to hit a defense based character (hence why Widows were so popular in PvP for a while)
Then they realized how broken it made defense based characters and adjusted it. End result: Defense is a little bit better than it used to be, but still doesn't do much good because everyone slots for extra accuracy in PvP anyway.
however, there is alot of to hit around in pvp and thats what really kills defense based toons. everything has to hit and its generally always something that has the ability to spike.
very rarely does a pvp toon not have some form of aim/BU/rage like power that gives to hit. and its even rarer to have a toon that doesn't have tactics for the perception buff, that stacks afew times and its game over.
ultimately the best way to go about it is to completely rework the way to hit/defense works in pvp, because its pretty obvious porting over the pve mechanic doesn't work.
to the OP, with GR there is really little reason to use a brute in pvp. brutes and tanks only served as disruption/taunt toons with some damage using fossilze and something like KO blow on mezzed targets. with the lower HP and the fact that fury is useless mechanic in pvp(save lolfiteklub) you're really better off rolling tank.
brute's can still be used and they aren't in the camp of "can't be used", but they're far less effective than tanks. welcome to i13 pvp, were everything is more acceccible, but actually the opposite is true. -

Quote:so you say thats the truth huh? did you read the other stuff that contradicts the truth (otherwise known as a lie or what i call BS) like "we fix bugs all the time" and "we listen to our player feedback" despite having implemented none of it.I thought the PvP question was handled as well as it could be, given the audience. If you read between the lines, no PvP changes until they sit down and rethink it over from the ground up. No rollback of i13 changes.
Did you really want the truth? You can't handle the truth!
you gain no more from "reading between the lines" of this than you do reading between the lines of dev activity regarding pvp over the last 3 years. -
I know that alot of people don't care about this, but if you're talking about versatility in terms of what the AT can do in terms of ability and content, controllers have the upper hand on defenders and corruptors in terms of PvP. the AT have the most combo's that actually prosper in 2.0 as apposed to other ATs that only have 1 or 2 combo's that can still work were as controllers have a plethora of combinations which i think add's to the AT's overall versatility. just my 2 inf.

Quote:they don't fix bugs.Well, Z, TbH - that PVP answer *was* a dodge. And the "we fix bugs that come up?" The bugs, perhaps, but given the entire PVP (dedicated and casual) community's massive drop and seeming state of being ignored since I13, well...
I'd say you're getting some pretty tame replies.
*looks at kin melee which can do 1k damage and placate proc*
yea they don't fix bugs -
Quote:they were participating because it was new and they marketed as such (see sig) not because pvping is too lite to stick with or anything like that.Actually, that's a change from before - when I13 first came out, they said they were happy with it - based on how a lot of non-PvPers were trying out the new system.
But now they've realized that the changes weren't enough to tempt non-PvPers to stick with PvPing. -
Quote:you're right doug,No no, this is a happy thread....only happy things are allowed. :P
Oh, and pics of no pants of course.....we gotta get back to our roots yo!
im sorry snow. in actuality, im really jealous of you
