  1. That's true... would be difficult to get them without access to the auction house, but HO's would help a lot.
  2. I think illusion controllers, and especially illusion/rad, were some of the earliest and best AV killers along with masterminds. But your second problem is going to be that the Mastermind AT and Controller AT are not available to free players unless you've purchased them.

To be honest... while I've solo'd a few AVs before, it's hardly what most players strive for, and doing so on SOs is (to my mind) really setting yourself up for some frustration. But it's a challenge, I guess.
  3. I've seen Weapons Grade Hugs around on Virtue.

    Cookie Prince is awesome.

See this thread for one solution. People store influence in the market by placing bids of up to 1,999,999,999 on something that (they assume) will never actually be for sale -- level 53 IOs, for an example. But please note that this takes up a marketing slot (the person in that thread has 53 slots though).

I just use multiple marketeers, and buy stuff to store in my base.
  5. All of my knowledge comes from running lots of TFs and none of it from actually reading documentation or testing stuff, so it's certainly a good idea to double-check anything I say.

Also, I have to cop to the fact that the same day I posted a small rant here about speed TFs, I ran a Manticore and people wanted to speed it... so we finished in 30 minutes, which is very fast. But, y'know, Manticore. No reason to take it slow on that one.

    recover account

You'd just need to know the password/login, and barring that, at least have a good e-mail address attached to the account so you could recover the password. Barring that, I think you'd have to contact customer support.
  8. You are certifiably crazy.

But I have no right to throw stones.

    1. I have, currently, 8 accounts, three of which are currently VIP, only two of which I've never spent any money on, but I do have an unopened GR box to apply to one of those two, and last week I ordered Good vs. Evil and Architect Edition from Amazon (I ordered one of them twice, I think).

    2. My two main accounts have 48 characters each on Virtue, and lots of other characters on other servers. Four other accounts have 14-17 characters on Virtue each.

    3. I have at current count seven solo SG bases on Virtue, in addition to being in charge of a division of another SG and also a solo VG and in charge of a division of a VG. All bases functional, and two more SGs planned because I like the names. ^_^ (In fact I think I created both of them already, but I can't remember which characters I did that with.)

I'm not organized though; I do things very scattershot. For example, while working on IOing a character tonight I logged in various other characters to try and see what I had in my various bases, and came across one character who had purchased 9 Overwhelming Force knockback to knockdown IOs in the last 10 days, and another where I had purchased 20 full sets of level 50 Crushing Impact, which was 120 recipes that I had to stop and craft and find a base to stash away in... I do stuff like this, and then forget I've done it until I log in that character again. It's all I can do to remember who is in charge of which SG.

    Yay, I'm famous!

I dug up This thread to try and pin down the point where I decided to be a serious marketeer... it was July 2009, about three years ago. At that point I could claim a few hundred million to my name, didn't know a lot of what I know now, and had only one (partially) IO'd character, but I was over 2 billion 6 weeks later.

    Flipping is this:

You put in a bid for, let's say, a level 50 Cytoskeleton at 201 million influence. After maybe a week, you've manage to purchase it. You relist it for 303 million influence. After a few days, it sells for maybe as much as 400 million.

Basically, you're buying something at a low price and selling it at a high price, and the reason it works is that you're patient and can wait for the right price, and other people are impatient and want to sell their crap immediately and/or buy what they want immediately. But you're not crafting anything, or converting anything, or bringing anything to the market on your own (except patience and the use of your market slots.)

Some of what's being talked about here is converting purples into different purples and relisting them -- technically I wouldn't call that flipping, you're offering something to the market other than what was there before.

The above example would be on the high end of things. On the low end, people flip things like salvage regularly.
  11. If it "saves" my DP/Dev blaster.... I still wouldn't have the time to play her.

I don't have any characters that I truly hate, though. Well, yes, I guess I do. My PB.

  13. I repeat what I said in Goat's thread. I solo'd it last week, and I enjoyed it. ^_^

For a certain value of enjoyment anyway. Given that I do sometimes farm, my tolerance for doing the same thing over and over is fairly high.

But yeah... a unique end map wouldn't have been too much to ask?

Not that any of the old TFs really have a lot going for them....
  14. I did nothing to prepare or ramp up for DxP weekend in terms of marketing. Most of my marketeers have ATOs for sale at stupidly high prices, and I don't really care if it takes 2 months for them to sell. I have more money than I need already.

But I started two new toons over the weekend, and while IO'ing out the first one I noticed Saturday morning that level 35 generic accuracy IOs were selling for over 2 million each -- and there was only 1 for sale. This prompted me to bid on enough salvage to craft ten of them. The first I listed for 2,000,001 and it sold instantly for about 2.3 million. Hey, can't beat instant profit! I had a few more sell for 5.5 million each by Sat evening, and then nothing more sold until Sunday afternoon... when a bunch of them (still listing for 2,000,001 each) sold. Two of these sold for 5 million, five of them sold for 10 million.

Can't beat getting five times your asking price. ^_^ I wound up making about 100 million on a brand new character just from a few casual generic IO sales.
  15. Cupcake Overdrive to 36 (started Friday)
    only needs Manticore for TFC
Death Ace to 35 (started Saturday)
  16. To the best of my knowledge you can bump it up or down (but not to -1) between missions and it will apply to the next mission so long as no one hasn't already entered it, and I believe it's been that way for more than 2 years now. I'm not aware of any recent changes, but I may not be an expert.

    Two more tips:

    1. If a lower level team member enters the mission first, this can sometimes cause the spawns that generate near the entrance to spawn at a lower level (appropriate to the person who entered). Spawns should be normal further into the mission. I run a lot of TFs and see this happen fairly regularly, but it usually freaks out or confuses someone on the team. (I can't say why it happens exactly or if it always happens in certain situations or what.)

    2. There's a bug you may run into (I think it happens when someone has quit the TF at some point part way through) where a mission repeats. It will keep repeating. The fix for this, outside of calling support, is to have the leader log off and back on. You'll still have to do the mission again (which is no help on a TF like Sutter I suppose with its very long mission sequences), but it should move on to the next mission afterwards. (This one is very hard to convince people of -- teams confronted with the problem tend to want to keep doing the mission over and over and/or just disband in frustration.)

Another bug that annoys me is if someone quits the TF, that usually makes it impossible for the leader to call it in at the end. You'll be told, "I need to talk to your leader," even if you have the star.

I don't like running TFs at plus anything. If you want extra experience, you should probably be running regular missions where a problem with the difficulty is more easily solved. This weekend on one TF people wanted to bump the difficulty, and we were seriously plowing through things so after 1 or 2 missions the leader bumped it up. I'm generally okay with it in a situation like that, based on already knowing that our team was was not being challenged at all. But in most situations there are at least a few people on the team whose primary goal is merits or a badge, and turning it into a slogfest isn't going to make them happy. At least, warn people BEFORE they join the TF that this is what you plan.

By the same token, I tend to like steamrolling TFs over speeding through them, especially certain TFs like an ITF. Last week I joined a friend who wanted to run a sub-20 minute ITF, and it was really kind of sad. When I turned left in the 2nd mission to solo one of the hallways, more than half the team followed me. And some of them died, even though they were not no their own. When we got to the third mission, the person tasked with pulling the AVs down to the computer only managed to pull Rommy, and we had to go up and kill Requiem on the platform after. Then, in the final mission, we had a full team wipe on Rommy. It wasn't clear if people intended to clear first but on a speed run I just assumed that you'd kill Rommy and ignore everything else, but our team wasn't able to handle it. Which is really sad because the people I normally run with, who don't bother to try and speed, would have handled it easily, but they're generally not interested in a speed run in the first place.

I like a kill-most TF run with people who could probably speed or possibly even solo the TF if they wanted to. Those are fun, and good experience for the team. ^_^

We also ran a Penelope Yin over the weekend, and one friend asked if it was a speed or steamroll, and when we said steamroll he said, "meh" and declined to join. I just don't get why you'd want to speed through a Yin TF, it takes all of 30 minutes even killing everything in front of you, and I enjoy it more. I mean, I've run a lot of speed TFs in my time, but usually the older ones that are not very interesting to begin with, and you tell people that's the plan before they join.

HOWEVER: It amazes me how many people don't understand that you can change the difficulty on a task force between missions. Almost every other week I'm on a team that argues that you can't do it. Yes, you can.
  18. For the man who has everything in the game... quite literally.

  20. I always feel like I should level a fresh character for DxP weekend. Last time this came around it was my dark/fire dom Ash Valentine, who I got pretty close to 50 over the weekend, and to 50 by the end of the next week.

This time I started an electric melee/willpower brute on Friday named Cupcake Overdrive, and she's now 31, but I wanted to buy street justice when it was on sale for my @dark shinobu account, so I started a street justice/willpower brute today named Death Ace, and got her to 24. And because of that, I obviously won't get Cupcake to 50 or close to it, but we'll see how tomorrow goes.

And I don't enjoy playing him anymore- I played him for however many hours as a fire-and-forget toggle death machine & Jack's "small tweak" turned Regen into a fiddly super active 'click or die!' set.
My first character ever was Organica, a katana/regen scrapper. I did eventially get her to 50. Also my 2nd 50 and the toon I played once I came back to the game years ago, and the character that was considered my "main" for several years is Mouse Police, also a katana/regen scrapper. So I know exactly where you're coming from here... I don't really like playing either of them, but they are some of my oldest characters and they're both 50.

As nearly as I can tell people that hate this TF have been on teams that couldn't handle the teleporting AV at the end, and got pummeled by the air strikes. Because it's a very fun TF on a good team. I like it!

    Puzzled

There's a reason I never play empathy, and it has nothing to do with whether I like the set or not. It has everything to do with what other people will tell your or expect of you.
  23. I would not assume it's a free-for-all. I'd contact Zwill about it, actually.

Strangely enough nearly every run I've been on (on Virtue) has been a badge run. People almost always ask and someone usually says they want it, and the majority of people are good at using only single target powers when asked. I think all of my DfB-only characters here already have the badge, except for the one I haven't played yet, and it hasn't even involved unusual pulling tactics.

I'm not adverse to forming my own groups, but so far I haven't had to either, there's always one forming that I can join.

Liberty Cowbell, perhaps. Sadly, you wouldn't be able to put the tricorner hat on a minotaur head, that would be aces.

With DxP starting tomorrow I've decided to not run any of these characters again until Monday. I'm mostly interested in how long it takes me to 50 on regular DfB runs, and I'll probably pick a different character to try and level up for the big XP weekend. So here's my 2nd update on the project:

    8/8/12 Terran Angel, run 4-5, level 14, 16

Terran Angel is a psychic/mental blaster, for no particularly good reason other than it's a combo I don't already have. I was teamed with another psychic/mental blaster, who had a kind of 30's pulp look and a name like "Dr. Psychosis" or something... I have to say, his look and name matched the power sets much better than mine do. But he had no bio, and he turned out to be one of those blasters who constantly complains about having melee attacks, and how it's "counter productive" and makes no sense. I imagine he's been airing the same complaint for years.

    8/9/12 Darkwave Surfer, run 4-5, levels 14, 16

The best bio of the night was a time/bots Mastermind named Fernsworth. (I assume Farnsworth was taken.) His bio began with "Good news, everyone! I've just invented..." and ends with, " uh... where am I?" Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. ^_^

Darkwave Surfer is named after a song by Japanese electronic dance/pop band Aural Vampire. They don't play dark wave, which is really music like Bauhaus and Siouxsie and the Banshees and a lot of German bands that came along much later, but the general feel of the song title and the music makes me think of a goth raver, so my character is a dark elf goth girl who loves going to rave dances. This is a time manipulation/water blast defender, because I can't make all of my water blast toons corruptors or blasters (and anyway, I don't have a time manip fender yet).

Water Blast, btw, is another extremely fun set on a Death from Below run.
