Quote:Awesome on the dominate. This is important to me because with cardiac and enhancement I was able to get every one of my ranged powers to 96 foot range, psy scream included.
Oh right, dominate slotting: That's where I put the AT set. I was all excited to slot it in gloom and then... you can't put it in ancillary pools. Oops.
How the hell did you get such a huge range on scream? -
Whatever one mouse-driven rng gives me.

Quote:For reference, it costs me on average 2 converters to make 70-100 mil, and 6 converters to make 200mil on a single sale. The 2 converter niche moves slow but sure. The big niche just moves slow......at least post later to remind me what a fool I was, once the niche is common knowledge. Curiosity piqued.
On average your numbers are about right. I end up with 35-45mil per converter.
Regarding kinetic combats, NOT A GOOD NICHE :| :| :| :|. I had thought I figured a good way to get them, but you just get really ****** rolls. I ended up blowing ~30 converters to get just 2 kincombats. I think there is a better way to do it, but. Kincom just was a catastrophically bad investment strategy.
Had I moved on instead of having been stubborn, I could have been rolling in cash with those 30 converters :|
edit: Its possibly to reliably make more than 50 mil per converter. However, my pockets arent deep enough to do it. And, I am way too nervous to try marketing with expensive things. Right now I have the most liquid inf I have _ever_ had in the entirety of my playing, and I am loathe to part with it.... -
I think it's over due. We haven't seen new hero blood in ages. Penny is the first "real" hero we have seen in a looooooooooong time. And she is legitimately a hero now. What we need is some more new heros we can really identify with to fill in the holes and bolster a new life for CoH.
I vote for a Rikti hero! Not some halfblood like H1. -
Quote:Aim for a flat 100% before hasten and then whatever goes, goes. Also, you should do 2 rechs and +5/+3 them to max them, or +5,+5 if you want to use 40s. It isn't that hard to build that kind of rech up without sacrificing other things. However, it isn't cheap.I have a question for all of you Perma-Dommers out there... How much recharge margin do you have to reliably keep Perma-Dom up?
I have 3 L40 Rchg IO's in Hasten for 97.37% recharge, and 78.8% global recharge in addition, which in theory (I think) gives me 14 seconds of margin to get Hasten fired again after it recharges. This sure seems like it should be enough, but I still have Dom drop on me sometimes. -
Hybrid-assault.
Or Hybrid-support (more heals in your heals for your heals). -
Quote:Ok, you have expained something very usefully. I HATE psyscream, because of the exceedingly long cast time. I see now that it is because of redraw. That chain I mention can stack something like 30 mag hold with five slots in Dominate devoted to damage slotting and the sixth slot with a level 50+5 unbreakable constraint: hold piece.
I know what you mean about dart burst. This is actually the second fortunata I've made, the first was a long time ago and I abandoned it at around level 40. On that one I relied on burst -> scream which was fine, but I found the redraw super noticeable when I got past the level where I was using my melee much. If you use dart burst in conjunction with the claw powers or just single target dart, no redraw. Use it with the psionic powers, mega redraw. You might find that less annoying than I did though.
Would 3 tstrikes, 2 hamis, 1 +2 lockdown proc be the best slotting for dominate? I could go 1 acc/mezz 1 dam/mez for 66% hold and max dam/acc, with the +2 proc firing regularly? -
Quote:First, I would like to thank you for your detailed response. I really appreciate it.The best chain, that I can see, is subdue -> dominate -> gloom. TKB is nice to keep around for exemplaring as well. You can have a convincing aoe arsenal with just psychic scream and psi tornado, but by all means add dark oblit if you are so inclined. Absolutely go with wail, too: it's like having two judgements instead of one.
As you can see I made no mention of any claw/dart powers. They don't benefit the single target chain while letting you stay at range, and burst doesn't mesh very well with the aoe chain given its redraw. Psi tornado is basically just fireball but all dot, it doesn't require the focal target to be alive for it to work. Purely in terms of damage it doesn't exactly inspire but I like it for its soft control as well. It's a great place to put the AT proc.
From above, I see some important points. The one reason I mentioned burst is its very short recharge, very short animation, and above average damage (even if it is lethal). At really high recharge, you can spam the heck out of it. I was not aware it had redraw though! I had never really noticed it before.
What will subdue -> dominate -> gloom take down? I like fighting tons of mobs.... Could I tentacles, t hen s->d->g a boss and kill it? Thanks again for the very indepth response! -

Wow@hybrid.
Just... wow.
I think I will be taking assault on every single one of my chars. MOAR DAMAGEZ. -
Randomly turning off incarnate powers doesn't bother me. I mean, people can run these things anyway without them, so whats different? Once upon a time we ran BAF/Lam without levelshifts... and I know people who have run more difficult trials with no shifts or just 1.
-
Ok, I keep talking to people in VB, and asking friends and just generally trying to figure out wth a Fort is.
I know I need/want perma mindlink.
I want almost everything in widow training (all those toggles/autos)
I know I want the stealth power, for 2.5 def if nothing else.
Subdue/theotherthing both have 1 sec animations. I love them.
Spine burst has a 2.3ish animation. I love that too.
I like spin, but its only 8 foot range.
I like followthrough, but its also melee.
I have a bunch of 80 foot powers, but 1 cone (psyscream) with a short range and ugh animation (2.5+)
1 cone with an short range (burst) but good anim and rech
A pbaoe of awesome but long rech.
I totally dont understand how to play this char. Should I cj/hover or just hover all the time? People say it plays at range, and I have some reasonable st range attacks, but that seems so... ugh and not fun.
At 35 I get gloom (thats nice), and 41 I get oblit. However, if I want to play level 30, I dont get access to gloom, so my attack chain would suffer. Plus, its just another long range st attack.
If I use oblit/burst/scream/burst/wail, that seems like a really nice attack chain, but I dont get wail or oblit until much later. And I get 0 use out of followthrough as a result, or spin (which seems kind of anemic and long anim to boot).
I just turned 28, and I am getting kind of depressed/frustrated from lack of... stuff. ish. I cant figure out how to play this char. Part of it is just playing like a defender. I dont get the other part. I defintely don't want a night widow.
I took psynado so far, but it seems kind of sucky, since if a mob dies while using it, it just disappears. Plus its DOT, eats a _lot_ of end, and while it looks cool, it just feels blah. The range is 80ft, which is fantastic, but with no aoe immob, they just walk out of it. I could take tentacles and max its range out, but thats at 38, putting me into the not-really-functional-until-40 range.
At 40, does this seem reasonable?
rangeboosted tentacles -> oblit -> subdue/zap boss/lt -> (close) burst -> (close) wail
It is all fast animating and reasonably fast charging.
But what about at 30? Is it ok to just forego all of the melee attacks? How bad a hit am I taking by not taking followthrough? Should I take it and lunge just for AV fights or similar? -
I went a lot different, using hover/cj combo along with perma link minds. It gets me over softcap (47.8%) ranged, and in the low 30s m/a. You could easily do the same with your char. It is _extremely_ tight on slots however. I see you went s/l, which is nice and all, but no where near as versatile as positional. At incarnate level, a lot of the content you see is not s/l at all, but energy, psi, dark, and misc other junk. While I know a lot of people have hate for the //psi pool, you may find putting all your eggs in one damage type may not be wise at max level, especially if you do any significant soloing.
-
I casually solo 2/8 on my elec/psi/ice. It does better against larger mobs as a result of the huge recov/regen boost you get from each target. Plus, //ice is just awesome.

+5 endmod +2 endmod, shifter proc in stamina.
I do not know why you are slotted so weird in stam. You have 4 slots and no proc where 3 slots would give 95% endmod and a proc.
edit: stam has 0 use for rech or acc. Why are you slotting for it? The +recov from 4 slotting (2.5%) is completely negligble in comparision to a flat 95% and a proc (which is missing). -

Quote:Plant/ is just good. There are better options than /thorn. You might want to consider plant/dark. Thats a pretty good combo. Lead with seeds, walk in and pbaoe/melee everything to death. Dark/dark is pretty generally good.Hi, SO i'm coming back to City of X after a break after a friend of mine wanted to play it as a claws/willpower (or super relfex) brute. I was going to play a Plant/thorn Dom but now we have the darkness powers which i'm interested in, so i'm wondering what you'd suggest.
Which would be a better combo, Plant/thorn, plant/dark, dark/thron or dark/dark? -

Randomly converting with a single converter can have exceedingly good response, if you know how to target it. It is possible to make it very... unrandom.
-
I have a feeling you are trying to be too stealthy. I run 0 stealth and play rather aggressively, starting off with aoe immob then fear, then close for ED, point blank range/melee, and stun. The initial volley from immbo is one or two shots in a group of 8, and none follow the fear. If you are playing aggressively with the dog and haunts, you shouldn't have any problems.

Quote:I am really that crunched. I have in excess of 20 def to all, softcap to e/n/ranged. I think I will go 3 tstrike, 2 nictus, and 5 crushing impacts as suggested. Thanks for the suggestion!Life Drain, I went for 3 pieces of Thunderstrike (emphasizing acc, end, and dam) and 2 Touch of the Nictus (the pure heal, which I boosted to +5, and one other heal/something I don't recall which). This gets some good values and Thunderstrike provides a little E/N/Range defense.
Engulfing Darkness and Midnight Grasp I have no clue - both are 6-slotted on my build, ED with Oblit, and MG with 5 pieces of Crushing Impact, I think (5% rech), plus the ATO proc (superior, woo!).
Are you really so slot-heavy you can't pull out 2 more to get ED and MG to 6?
Then again, I was perfectly happy to end up with Ranged defense somewhat over 30% and 20% to Melee and AoE, with no purple sets, just a Glad 3% that I got lucky buying for 'cheap'. -
Well... I got stuck with slot crunch. Drain, ED, and MG got sacked with just 5 slots total each.
I don't know how slot these three. I think I am set with ED...
erad quad, trip, acc/dam, fury -res, multistrike? trip
I don't know what to do about Drain or MG however. With linkminds up (it will be perma once I get to 50 and can slot sup ATOs and Coercives) and my current slotting, I am 40.6% def. Coercive will put me at 45.6%, unless I gain more ranged def from 5 slotted drain or MG, which I don't see as likely.
My e/n is ~softcap as well. My s/l is ~22%, and I run mind over body for some res at least, but it isn't slotted for res. Just a mule for 2 3% defs.
What to do?
