  1. I love the feel of the piece so far. I think the tree will be a nice touch and help bring it together. I can't wait to see this one finished.

I think Celtic Bolt may well deserve a lot of the credit for the friendly art automosphere around here. Now, I have no real experience with any other online games or their communities, but the fact that for more then a year he was turning out fantastic free art for everyone who asked pretty much set the tone. People now expect this forum section to be welcoming and friendly. Which really isn't the case for many of the other forum sections. After that, I guess credit should just go to all the forum regulars who, for the most part, foster a friendly and supportive environment.

    Thank you everyone! Yay us!

I agree completely. Add to this the level of customization in personalizing your own character and it really isn't surprising people want a piece of their characters.
  4. The programs I tend to use are photoshop, painter, poser, and gimp. I love gimp. It's a lot like photoshop but with a few differences. The big thing I use it for is I find it easier to work with paths in gimp. The draw backs is the customization for brushes is nowhere near what is available in photoshop so things like natural looking brushes and paint don't work as easily, and there are not nearly as many color modes. It is great if you are learning or want to do comic style coloring.

  5. There was an issue of Spider-Man where he was stuck under some machinery. It was supposed to last a few panels. Part of a page. It got stretched out to eight pages by the artist because he was a genius. Spidey fought and struggled. Not with the machinery, but with himself over those eight pages then dug down in himself and lifted that machinery that he shouldn't have been able to lift because he found the inspiration he needed. That's how I see inspirations working in this game.
  6. The two biggest things to me when reading something with perspective changes is to understand exactly who's perspective is being used and having a clear understanding of why that perspective is used. If those two things are muddled then you have likely lost me.
  7. I must admit. I still trace. Only difference is I trace my own work now. The big reason is I can get rather sloppy due to shaking. So I will draw and block everything in and have all of my basic shapes in place with maybe some details. This is almost always on printer paper. Then I will place this under a clean sheet and draw a cleaner version. I will normally take this and freehand it to a larger piece of paper where I can work in more details. Sometimes bristol board, sometimes not. Sometimes I don't though. If I am reworking a piece on the same size paper, then I almost always darken the lines I like with markers or drafting pens and set that under the new sheet.

When in middle school I didn't have much money. An alternative I found was wax paper. Not nearly the same, but it can work in a pinch. As others have stated, if you are going to trace other people's work then you are likely to pick up their habits and it's not going to go a long way to teach you. Photographs and live models are best. Good reference can be a great thing. Just be careful not to pick up the mistakes of others.

You could also use things like grids as an in between for tracing and freehand. In fact, I would highly recommend using grids over tracing. This holds especially true before you gain the confidence to draw freehand. Grids also allow you to change the size of an image to fit whatever you are working on.

A trick I found helpful for me was to change reference images to grayscale. It greatly helped me to understand lines, form, contour, and lighting. Learn some basic anatomy. Learning the basic shapes of bones, the workings of joints, and how the muscles work together is essential. I have no idea what the names for muscles on the arm are, but I know how they flow into each other and how they react with the bones and joints. You may be able to get around this occasionally with a live model or photographs, but using a program such as Poser to create custom poses or attempting to creat a piece from you imagination will often result in improper anatomy. Poser is great for finding a basic flow and playing with the lighting, but depending on computer programs such as this for anatomy is futile.

Remember, just because you might be tracing, you don't have to make a photocopy. You can change things as you go along.
  8. Tracing... Not Tracing... Tracing... Not Tracing...

It really doesn't matter as long as you learn to see.

    Toga toga toga!

    I am a GOD!

Well, the character I am most readily identified with looks the part at least. I was dissapointed that there was no option for shorts or anything. I was forced to go with standard tights. It was okay here because he's green, but that would just look silly otherwise.

No Aura used here. I figured he is bright enough as it is.

Will Nymie the Pooh be there???????

Most likely not, but I wish I could be there to put Cuppa at ease if nothing else. I may be able to. I didn't find out about it until this morning, so have to see what I can do. Probably not, but not entirely undoable.

    RP Servers

Virtue is the unoffical RP server, but you can find RP on all of them. There are just a few more doing it on Virtue than the other server.
  17. Thank you for filling us in on this and for ensuring that proper credit goes to the right people

  18. "What's wrong Mako?"

    Chin up, chin up
    Everybody loves a happy face
    Wear it, share it
It'll brighten up the darkest place
    Twinkle, sparkle
    Let a little sunshine in
You'll be on the right side
    Looking at the bright side
Up with your chinny chin chin

    Chin up, Chin up
Put a little laughter in your eyes
    Brave it, save it
    Even though you're feeling otherwise
    Rise up, wise up
    Make a little smile begin
    You'll be happy hearted
    Once you get it started
Up with your chinny chin chin!

    Chin down
    You can't come frowning
    Turn around
    Starting, clowning
Think sad - your trouble's double
Think glad - they burst like bubbles

    Chin up, chin up
Every little time your spirits wilt
    Chin up, chin up
Give your attitude in upward tilt
    Twinkle, sparkle
    Make a little fun begin
You'll be on the right side
    Looking at the bright side
Up with your chinny chin - chin up!

A PSP is a Handheld Playstation. Costs a lot. And is making the DS look RREEEEAAAALLLL dumb.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Developers don't need to figure out how to use the PSP, it's pretty straightforward. The DS's controls are still pretty new territory. The DS has far more potential, the kirby game for example, is unlike anything you could ever find on the PSP. In a few generations, the DS will mature into a heck of a platform.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Oh yeah! Well the DS has... stuff. Yeah! Stuff!

Okay. I bought it for whatever Zelda game they put out in the future. CoH, Zelda, and NWN. Those are really my only games I play anymore that I haven't had a hand in. I would love it if they rerelease Planescape: Torment to run on XP or a console, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

  21. I like that she answers as many questions as she possibly can and does her best to interact with the community. I know all the devs do, but she really went above and beyond. I have my favorites list, and she is on it. That is not just because she is hot either.

My boyfriend got me into COH. We used to play together a lot, then RooGirl kind of made her mad break for 50, and now we have a lowbie couple that we play when we get a chance (BarkBoy and PurrGirl in my sig). He's a videogame programmer so it would have been the height of futility for me to get worked up about the time he spends playing games.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em...and then outlevel 'em.
