Well your damage will be generated by Rage so you will want that for sure and you will want to 6 slot it with either an IO set like Gaussian's or 3 recharge and 3 to-hit.
Punch, Haymaker, Knockout Blow, Hurl, and Foot Stomp will be your primary damage dealers and you can either choose to slot or not slot Jab. As for slots that depends on if you plan on eventually using IO sets. If not then focus on endurance reduction and recharge because SS has some long recharge powers. I would post more but this should get you in the right direction.
If you have more questions feel free to ask. -
Quote:I'm definitely not taking Hasten because I don't have any room for it and with my build I finally came up with it had enough +rech globally that it didn't really need it. I was able to increase the regen from 696% to 734%, but its still no where near the 80 hp/sec that your build has.Double checked my build, and I had it right - 6 slots in HPT (4 Numis - not the proc),
and 2 Resists, for reasons mentioned previously...
In RttC, I have 4 slots - 2 Numis, 2 Miracles (again, no procs there).
As for Hasten, I'm generally disinclined to take it on most of my toons,
and this guy is no exception ... but ...
I've left myself the option to take it at L49 (instead of Strength of Will) for
the simple boost to DPS it gives. It's totally unnecessary for normal stuff,
but when I start looking at "crazy" stuff (Pylons, AV's, GMs, etc.) I think that it
may be helpful... <shrug> I still have some time to mull that one over...
Regards,

True it coule have been worse being a Tanker and waiting much longer and that is the main reason why I went with a Brute rather than a WP/SS Tanker even though the Tanker in the end would have been a lot nastier in terms of survival due to the higher health and regen factor.

Well here is the build I think I willl keep because it has a nice balance of s/l resistance with +rech and good regen.

I'm on the fence about Hasten. All the SS Brutes I have seen each take Hasten, but I really don't want it for concept and personal reasons. Once I can come up with a build I am set on in Mid's that will be the deciding factor. The build I am leaning towards is the one I mentioned in the other thread with 696% regen, but now that I see the importance of Tough I will be redoing the build completely.
-
I guess my problem is that I am spoiled when it comes to melee characters because my Scrappers and Tankers have all been matured pretty much as soon as I started playing them, but for some reason I am not getting that same performance from this character.
Since I am new to Brutes I think I need to just adjust to playing them because they do not play like Tankers or Scrappers, at least SS/WP doesn't and then I will be fine in the long run. I know that once I get her to 32 and then 37 she will be nice. Right now regeneration is just not what I want it at or what I am used too with Scrappers and Tankers using the same set. -
Oh and I would love for Knockout Blow to have the Energy Transfer animation. I like the two fisted animation, but I do not like the default animation for Knockout Blow. It used to be cool, but now I just dislike seeing it so much.

Quote:I mean, I am very disappointed in it not changing or looked at in i18/GR release.
C'mon, it's obvious the absolute need of improving...something, the set is absolutely subpar either looking at doms or trollers alternative powersets.
I'm curious as to why you think it needs anything? Gravity is exception on Controllers and Dominators. In terms of pure control only Earth is better in my opinion. My Grav/Storm Controller and Grav/Elec Dominator are absolute monsters to play.
I think its obvious that it doesn't need improving. -
I actually did a quick respec and took Tough and she is a lot nicer with that added smashing/lethal resistance.
I think once I get Foot Stomp I should be good or at least I hope so. I don't use IO sets until level 37 (she's loaded with level 30 commons at the moment) and that is when I know she will be nasty.
Endurance has never been an issue on this character, recharge on the other hand is a pain in the rear. -
Quote:I would love to have Radiant Strike have the animation for Havoc Punch. One of the projects we are working on is to create more alternate animations for various powers. The animators asked me which powers I wanted to have this applied to and rather than simply come up with a list myself, I thought it would be interesting to open the discussion to you the fans.
Caveat:
Powers with Alternate Animations will still have nearly the exact same Animation Lengths, so this thread is not about creating shorter animations for various powers.
So, let's hear it! Tired of doing Backflips with Eviscerate? Sick of beating your chest like Tarzan? Eyebeams not your cup of tea? Tell us about it!
Zapp, Snipe, Moonbeam should be able to use the Thunderous Blast/Bitter Freeze Ray animation.
Solar Flare should have the the same options that Foot Stomp players get.
Those are just a couple ideas. -
I'm sure it has more to do with biting off more than I can chew beacuse at the moment she can't handle +1 x7 (comparatively I had my Scrapper exemp down and did those same settings and he was completely fine, but he also has area of effect damage where as this Brute is all single target until I get to 32 to take Foot Stomp.
I am going to try to see if she can handle +1 x4 in a moment. I never solo, but I like to use high spawns as a test for what my Willpower characters or any melee characters can handle. -
After playing a Brute for about a week I am curious about something. When do Brutes typically come into their own? I know that each AT has a time when it just comes into its own and I have find those on the ATs I have played, but being completely new to Brutes I haven't really found it yet.
Granted my Brute is only level 29, but I am finding that she isn't as sturdy as I assumed she would be. I know when my Spines/Willpower Scrapper was level 29 a long time ago it was already into its own, but I am not having that same feeling with this Brute. It could be my complete lack of AoE which I will have at level 32, but it seems like she just drops way too quickly unless I used insps or have a healer of some kind around.
Is this typical of Brutes or just SS/Willpower for Brutes? -
Quote:I personally never slot resistance in High Pain Threshold because the return is terrible. I normally toss 3 Miracle IOs + 3 Numina IOs for the mixed set bonus and to add more HP and regeneration. I slot RttC the same way and to good effect.I have a whopping 1 charcter slotted with sets, and that's a /SD Scrapper.
For /WP, I slot HPT with 3 Heals early, and late in the build, I add 3 Resist Damage to it, for 6 slots of fun.
RttC gets 4-5 slots, depending on how many I have left over. I slot it with 3 Heals at Level 16-17, then when I can spare a slot, I'll throw in an Endurance Reducer slot. If I have an extra slot, I'll throw in an extra slot with a Taunt.
My Claws/WP Brute I'm making when GR goes Live will have HPT 6 slotted with 3 Heal, and 3 Resist Damage, and RttC 5 slotted with 3 Heal, 1 Endurance Reducer, and 1 Taunt.
Bonus: If you want to make sure you never run out of End, grab Quick Recovery and Stamina, both 3 slotted with Endurance Modifiers, and then take the new Energy Mastery Ancillary Pool. From there, grab umm... I forget the name, but it's a passive power that adds +5 Max End. Slot 3 Endurance Modifications into it, and it will increase your Max End by ~7 points, IIRC. Then, grab Physical Perfection, and put at least 3 slots into it, filled with Endurance Modifications. Your Recovery will be stupid good before adding any Sets. For extra fun, use the system to side-switch to Hero, and get the various +End Accolades.
Endurance has never been an issue on my Brute so far although recharge is another issue all together. SS powers recharge so slow so I will have to address that using IOs and whatnot when I get her to level 37.
Once I switch her to heroes I will be taking the Conserve Power, Laser Beam Eyes and Physical Perfection which will complete her build since she is a Power Girl mimic character. -
Quote:Bayonet and Single Shot were simply taken just for the Touch of Death and Decimation IO sets. Neither of those powers will be in my tray. I appreciate the feedback, but to be able to comfortably hit all the softcap type and positional numbers I had to make a couple sacrifices and the pets and Surveillance just happened to be the two powers that got the chopping block.I wouldn't play a Bane as a stalker. Stalkers do much more damage from AS without any debuffs. Without the debuffs, a Bane will lag behind. There are several powers I'd lose in your build before skipping Venom Grenade or Surveillance. I wouldn't get either Bayonet or Single Shot nor would I get pets with just 1 slot in them. Venom Grenade or Surveillance would be a far better choice than either of the pets for a 1 slot investment.
However, it's your build, and I'm just giving you feedback in what I think works more effectively.
I am still not dead set on making a Bane because I love Stalkers so much, and I absolutely hate having to make a male character because there are no female Bane Spiders and I like sticking to lore as much as possible. After I get done with my newest Stalker and Brute I will see if I still have the itch to make a Bane. -
-
Here is the information according to Zombie Man and all the new changes coming due to GR and Issue 18.
You can find the full list here. -
In all honesty with the changes to Burn you will see a better turn around with /Fire than with /Elec especially when it comes to a self heal in /Fire and a medicore one in /Elec.
-
Over the last couple days since I got into my Brute I have been looking over the thread to see how many people slot these two powers and I have noticed that I seem to be the only person that 6 slots them. My main reason for doing that is because I like to slot for more +HP and +Regen from IO set bonuses, but I am curious to know your thoughts.
The way I slot my Willpower characters is based on my Spines/Willpower Scrapper so its effectiveness might not be the same for Brutes so any alternative ideas are welcomed. -
I have all three on my Fortunata and Night Widow characters. I'm not sure what your build looks like, but you should be able to have them all unless you are going with some kind of hybrid build.
-
Quote:That's a good idea. I hadn't noticed that Poisonous Ray did more damage than Burst. I will definitely have to change that.In that case you'll be ok, you'll be avoiding those redraw times like tarrantum mentioned. I suggest though that you swap out Burst for Poisonous ray so you could use it if you wanted, it's still nice to have some ranged dmg that you'll use for runaways and what not. That way you'll still have your gun for show/concept because of Single Shot and Bayonet.
I thought about taking Surveillance because of the debuffing, but just couldn't fit it into the build so I opted against taking it. I figure if I can get by on 2 Stalkers without a debuff then I should be fine on this Bane. -
Quote:The ability to change sides is in Praetoria so if you can't access Praetoria you can't change sides. You get access to tip starting at level 20, but as for alignment changing you need to have access to Praetoria. The source of my information is a couple of my SG friends that were in the closed beta.Novella no offense intended but can you cite a source for your info?
My experiences so far have led me to believe the side-switching will be more a part of i18 than GR, and you won't need access to GR to switch sides.
I understand that the whole idea of GR is the side-switching thing - but I was under the impression that if you didn't buy GR you wouldn't be able to visit Praetoria, but would still be able to switch sides.
Unfortunately at this point I'm not allowed to discuss what gave me that impression. -
I didn't pick them because I plan on using them. They are basically just place holders for an IO set.
I specifically chose those two because I like the gun and not so much the mace blast, but either way they won't even be in my tray to be used so it doesn't really matter.
Rather than looking at power choices I just want to know if the build would play like a Stalker does or if Banes play a little differently -
Why would you need a character with a name longer than 20 characters? It becomes too much at that point.
-
You need Going Rogue to be able to change sides though. If you do not have access to Praetoria then you can't switch sides.
If you just have CoH/CoV then you will have the benefits of Issue 18, but without the specific things that Going Rogue brings. -
How exactly am I gimping myself? I have six melee attacks and the two ranged powers I took hold the Decimation set so I can use the 6.25% recharge bonus. I could care less about using the pets which is why I took them so late in the build. I took the ranged powers because I like that they take ranged sets and that was perfect for what I wanted. I have no plan on using them since I will be in melee, but nevertheless they were necessary for the additional 12.5% recharge they give me.
