Quote:Batman is totally NOT an exception. He is DC to the CORE. Just because he doesn't have superpowers doesn't mean he's realistic. He's a billionaire who lives in a fictional city and is obsessed with fighting nothing but deranged lunatics to the point that his superhero identity has become who he really is while his alter ego Bruce Wayne is little more than a beard. He has enough detective skills, fighting skills, tactical genius and IQ points to somehow let him stand toe-to-toe with Superman as an EQUAL (and this causes Superman to instantly become an idiot who forgets what powers he has anytime the two team up). In what way is that "realistic"?Been years since I read comics, but this describes precisely why I preferred Marvel to DC. While certainly fantastical in context, more Marvel stories rooted in real world problems. This is partially due to most Marvel comics occurring in actual cities where most DC stories take place in fictitious cities. It's simply easier to ground the stories this way.
Racism still remains an issue today. While the US may not be at Civil Rights Movement levels of racial tension, it hasn't evaporated. It's also generally accepted that the wrong events at the wrong time can quickly shift attitudes. Some countries handle racism better than the US, other countries far, far worst. This is the appeal of the mutant story lines. These are the stories that allow Marvel to depict bigotry with out being offensive (yes, on occasion they fail.)
While I acknowledge exceptions (like Batman), I found most DC characters and story lines simply too outlandish and too fantastical. While I agree, great writing can over come this, retaining writers of such caliber isn't realistic.
Just because he's "gritty" and "badass" and beats people up does not make him a "Marvel" style character. DC characters are not as realistic, and that's why I like them a lot more. I find most of the depth in Marvel characters to be shallow; created to make people look at them at a glance and instantly think "oh, they're real people with real problems". DC characters, on the other hand, need to be read and comprehended before they are fully understood. Marvel characters might have more readily apparent flaws in their characters, but that hardly gives them more depth or make them somehow "better". -
Quote:Ugh. I did it in Mids and it set Combat Jumping and Maneuvers to off by default. My mistake, it was late.23.8% from Deflection and Battle Agility.
5% From Phalanx Fighting.
7.92% from Weave.
3.96% from Combat Jumping.
3.61% from Maneuvers.
3% from Steadfast Protection.
47.29% total. That's with 3 level 50 defense IOs in each power.
If we go level 50 Luck of the Gambler: Def, Def/End, Def/+Global Recharge we get:
23.1% from Deflection and Battle Agility
5% from Phalanx Fighting.
7.71% from Weave.
3.85% from Combat Jumping.
3.51% from Maneuvers.
3% from Steadfast Protection.
46.17% total.
So, I'm wondering how you did your math. -
Quote:That's... not true. What you just said wouldn't even get you to 40%. Even with a tier 4 Nerve slotted you'd be about 2.5% away from the softcap. Don't get me wrong, it takes very minimal investment to reach the softcap as a Shield Tanker, and a 9% lead is nothing to scoff at, but softcapping a Shield Tanker is not as easy as you make it out to be.A Shield tank can hit softcap with Weave, Maneuvers, Combat Jumping and ONE IO (Steadfast Res/Def). The tank is then free to focus slotting on things like recharge, regen and max HP, while the brute is still chasing the softcap.
Edit: I'm wrong, sorry. -
Instead of Unresistable Damage, have it deal additional unresistable damage versus each higher rank. There's really no reason to use AS on minions, but if you want to you'd get a small amount of extra damage added (enough to kill most minions, so the change between current version would be slim to none). The damage scales up with Rank, making AS fare better against higher ranked enemies and thus a very viable option for use against AVs or GMs. Considering the effort that goes in to ASing against these high-HP targets like GMs and AVs, the prep time of using Placate and inherent risk of using an interruptable, slow-animating attack, I believe it would be balanced for AS to deal more damage to AVs and GMs then it currently does. Trade-off being, it might deal a bit less to Lts, and about the same or a tiny bit less to Bosses. I wager a lot of Stalkers would actually prefer it doing a bit less to Lts, however, if only to leave them with a tiny bit of health so that the fear effect can be set off.
This also, in theory, allows you to bypass any problems that would be had involving killing civilians or Hamidon enemies, since they do not follow the traditional ranking structure. As such, the unresistable damage could be entirely limited to the standard Minion, Lt, Boss, EB, AV, Monster, GM ranks, and not apply at all to other ranks. As far as I'm aware, this addresses the primary issues with giving it unresistable damage. It would also make Stalkers very valuable on end game content like attempting to take down an enraged Marauder or Honoree in the LGTF once he pops Unstoppable.
I also support an increase in damage scale to at least 1.1 and an HP cap increase to at least 1800. Would also support adding to the Stalker inherent a "bleed" effect that applies to the Stalker's first two attacks, similar to Tanker bruising except it would deal very minor DoT. -
Seriously? Tankers? Tankers are an absolute blast. If they got rid of them I'd quit the game. If you're going to troll about "inferior ATs" can't you actually pick one that's substantially inferior? Like Stalkers?

Wouldn't work due to clipping issues.

I like the concept but I can't see it working very well for team play. "Don't heal me, I'm berserking!"? Needs some definite work and refining before moving forward. PBAoE Knockback (which everyone hates) that gives regen (which makes it a necessary part of the set)? And you can get it at level 2? The tier 9 leaves you -dead- at the end? Not particularly appealing for a Tanker. But of course, the entire crash is mitigated by the fact that you get a self rez... and with a short recharge, to boot. How would this set operate with extra defense buffs? Anyone who wants to IO for defense will find their Frenzy has basically been rendered obsolete. The ultimate goal of the set, as is, seems to be to sit at around 20% health as often as possible. It looks as if it was designed from a total min/max perspective on damage dealing as a melee class. Extra recharge, extra recovery, heaps of extra damage, but the sacrifice is that your survivability sucks. I can understand the appeal for a Brute or Scrapper, and for them I would even go so far as to say it may be quite overpowered in that regard, but anyone who rolls this as a Tanker would find themselves wholly unable to do what their archetype is designed to do. 15% resistance at 75% health isn't enough to protect you from being one-shotted by an Arch-Villain, and the ramping resistance won't help you much with taking alphas.
Hate to rain on your parade, but these all seem like serious issues to me. You might reply by saying "but that's part of the whole idea," in which case I can only conclude that the idea is flawed. Brutes, Scrappers, and especially Tankers are not Blasters. -

It exceeded my low expectations. Thought it was a decent flick. Nothing groundbreaking, but I can understand why the mainstream reviews have been bad. It's steeped pretty heavily in Geoff Johnsian lore and he even co-produced it. Very comic booky and definitely flawed, but still thought it was okay and none of the CGI or costume effects were as bad as I thought they were going to be based on stills and trailers.
Quote:I think the problem is the opposite, in this case... it may actually follow the comics too closely, to the point that only a comic book fan can really understand all the details. It's still easily followed for a mainstream audience but you can't appreciate it in its entirety and it doesn't make much of an attempt to explain things very well to the uninitiated. I can definitely see why it'd disappoint GL fans, though, in that it's just not that great of a movie. I'd give it like a 6/10 though.Originally Posted by BrandXHavent read a review from a GL fan, but I wouldn't trust a GL fan to review the movie to save their lives as a lot of fan reviews end up like this "Doesn't follow the comic so it sucks" (paraphrasing of course). -
The Richard Donner cut is a lot better.

Quote:Booster Gold remembers everything, gets a 24 issue maxi-series, manages to find his way to Earth Prime where he finds Superboy Prime. Superboy Prime says he's been reading the new DCU Reboot comics and "frankly, they suck". He then goes with Booster to the space between realities and punches the fabric of Earth One's reality. Retcons are set off that return everything, more or less, to the old status quo, minus a few changes here and there that were well-received with fans.We also should start trying to figure out what next summer's big crossover event will be. You know the one I'm talking about, when 2/3 of the new 52 titles are utterly failing sales-wise, and DC decides to retro-boot back to the current "old" DCU.
I'm thinking Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern, steps up and uses the massive power of the Starheart to completely restore the universe to the way it should be. Then they can bring everyone back to life, and start over yet again from scratch. -
10 was actually Nemesis, Abrams' was 11. I agree, but I wouldn't say 3, 7 or 9 belong in the excrement pile. None of the TNG films were that bad. At any rate, I can find enjoyment in any of the Star Trek films. The Undiscovered Country and First Contact are my personal favorites. Wrath of Khan is very good but I believe those two are the superior films.

It isn't necessarily robotic. Looks more like some type of organic bone-like structure to me. Maybe his flesh is being assembled onto his bones or something.

This web page was made by a marketing firm? * Snorts. *

It says he's still just a clone. I think that thing is supposed to be some sort of genetics machine thing, similar to the machines that grew the humans in The Matrix.

Quote:I don't think it will be like that. Kevin Smith is certainly involved in the production, and being that he IS a comic book fan, I don't think he'll try to make everyone look like a bunch of lifeless nerds. They did say they are looking for funny and outgoing people. I imagine this is basically an attempt at making Clerks into a less offensive reality TV show while focusing almost exclusively on the type of nerd banter that was featured in Clerks. The words "comic book lifestyle" creep me out, and I'm someone who likes comics. I expect this'll be yet another "look at what trainwrecks these people are" show. I can hardly fault the network for doing that to geekdom, though. All reality shows have more or less that same premise, regardless of their milieu. I never knew there were so many flat-out irritating people on earth until the reality TV boom.

I am ashamed to admit that when I was younger I didn't know Les Paul was a person and even pronounced it as "Leh Paul" like I thought it was French like "Les Miserables" or something...
-
Star Trek was great (though the lens flares drove me nuts) and Lost is amazing (though I don't think he was terribly involved in it). Other than that, I haven't liked anything he's done. Super 8 looks like it's going to be a spiritual successor to Cloverfield, which I was super excited for and incredibly disappointed by.

Quote:Ah Not_Rhino I wish I could see that picture. I sure I would derive some enjoyment out of it.

* Rob Liefeld wanders into a graveyard. *
"hmm, wonder where i am, dis don't look like marvel comic office!"
* He is startled to find Alan Moore performing a warlocke ritual in a burial plot. *
"hey, what goin' on! who be down dere in dat dere hole?!"

"hey, hobo beardman! what you doin' in dat dere hole? don't you know dem holes is for people who ain't no longer got blood in dey veins?"
"Silence, mortal! Tell none of this, and I shall fix your character, 'Supreme'."
"duhhh okay, whatebber you say funny beard man!"
And thus, Alan Moore won an award for "Best Writer of the Year" in 1997... -
Quote:I refer you to my responses in this other thread as to the reasons why they thought it was a good to loose Liefield on poor Hawk and Dove.
In fact, Hawk & Dove #1 from the 1988 mini-series was Rob's first professional job. But by issue five he apparently "forgetting" to finish drawing hands and feet. Karl Kessel, the inker, had to do that.
"i sorry i not drawed hand and feetses, i forgetting it" - Rob Liefeld -
Quote:This could work for Super Strength as well as some more fantasy-oriented Martial Artsy people out there. Would look great if you came down with a big FIST slamming into the pavement (as opposed to just landing). They could even go so far as to make it generic enough that it could be done while holding a weapon, so it would work for all the non-elemental meleers.A PBAoE where your character leaps off the top of the screen* and then comes crashing back down, shattering the pavement and everyone around him/her would be pretty awesome.
*I have no idea how this would look to an outsider. There's the Ninja Leap costume change emote though, so something of the sort exists. -
I thought devs confirmed that as long as you qualified for a component, you qualified for ALL of the component rarities, and that there is no way to "work really hard" to have a better chance at earning a rare. In other words, if you barely participated and still got a Common piece, you had as good of a chance of getting a Rare/Very Rare as a guy who worked his butt off doing tons of damage. It's either you qualified, or you didn't. Is this not true?
I think you mean Anti-Monitor, lol. Been doing too much Praetorian content? -
Superman does not have powers under red sunlight. He has different powers under -other- suns, but not a red sun. Why? Because this is the type of sun Kryptonians evolved under, and under it, they are pretty much just like humans. I believe, however, that their bones and musculature are a bit more dense than humans, meaning they are, even without powers, still stronger and more durable than the average human. This is not because of solar radiation, but becase Krypton has(had) a stronger gravitational pull than Earth.

Quote:A lot of HBO's shows are trash. Some of them are good, and their John Adams miniseries is the best miniseries I've ever watched. "Premium" cable channels add gratuity and nudity for the sake of gratuity and nudity. Ever seen the pilot episode of Stargate SG-1, uncut? There is absolutely no need for that show to ever contain nudity, but it did because Showtime pushed it on them.I'm not going to argue the importance of Seinfeld. It was hugely important to todays comedy. BUT it is not the best TV series of all time. I might give you a shot at best broadcast TV show, but I'm sorry HBO has put out several shows that I think are far better than Seinfeld (which I love). And while Seinfeld did all those wonderful things it was a standard multi camera sitcom. There are other shows that todays comedy owes bunches and that's single camera shows like Scrubs and Arrested Development. Because today the single camera comedy far surpasses the dreck pumped out by the Seinfeld way (multi cameras and studio audiences). (Save BBT and maybe HIMYM)
Seinfeld is the most entertaining show that has ever been on TV. I won't argue that it was a masterfully written piece of literature meant to be debated over by scholars for decades, and it never had me on the edge of my seat, but it's funny, and for a sitcom, that's all that matters.
I don't mind studio audiences. I don't need to be told when to laugh, but since laughter is contagious, I certainly don't mind them, especially on shows like Seinfeld where the audience is legitimately laughing, and so am I, because something is legitimately funny. But hey, don't take my word for it. TV Guide named it the #1 greatest television show of all time in 2002. Of course, it's all just a matter of opinion. You either love it or hate, but the majority seem to love it, and I think that alone makes it worthy of being mentioned to this guy asking for shows to watch.
Quote:Must be Opposite Day. Either that or your mac autocorrected "overrated" into "greatest."
Seinfeld had maybe a half dozen really good episodes and that many okay ones. Other than that, it's a whole lotta meh. Better than The Nanny or Three's Company? Sure. But so is getting a cinder block dropped on your foot. Not high praise. Seinfeld was so rarely funny, it's not even funny.
Just like I would never use a Mac because I think they're overpriced, un-upgradeable garbage that can't play games, it's all a matter of taste.
