  1. Hey, stuff like this started happening to me a few weeks ago (though it was mainly more like half invisible textures, or textures applying to other textures, rather than being spread out like that). My graphics card was overheating, but was only happening in CoH. I kept playing, and eventually noticed physical damage (blown capacitors) on my card after about 5 or 6 screen lockups which forced me to manually shutdown. Now it seems to give me texture glitches while playing other games, like TF2, as well. I advise you check your card for damage. I've heard this (or similar things) happening to other people as well, it seems highly suspect, yet I can't see why one game being patched would cause video cards to massively overheat to the point that they're so damaged they start overheating during other games as well. It may just be your video card's time to die, but considering the multitude of threads similar to this I've seen cropping up since my problem began, City of Heroes seems highly suspect to me.

So, right now, I'm pretty much not playing City of Heroes while I wait for a new computer I ordered to arrive. Don't want to risk completely destroying my card before it gets here, and playing CoH on my laptop is nearly unbearable for me.
  2. Doesn't change that the only times it happens is on CoH. Need a new computer anyways.. whatever.
  3. It only began after the last patch. Actually I played all last night without any problems, but the night before I crashed 4 times while pretty much just standing around.

Again, it's possible that damage was there beforehand, and maybe it's just superficial, because my card is still running fine, even on CoH, I have no framerate issues or anything like that, just occasional texture glitches that can be fixed by changing my World/Character texture settings and then clicking Apply to reload the zone, as well as the computer lockup crash.
  4. I think it's an EVGA, GeForce 7600 GT. The physical damage is that two of the components, look like little batteries, were blown out the top, some chemicals inside kind of foamed up through the top.

It isn't. It's a CoH issue. I'm having the same problem. The card overheats during CoH, and only CoH. My temperatures read normal outside of and in CoH. Something in CoH causes the card temp to rapidly rise and freeze the computer or cause texture glitches.

In theory, if your graphics card is properly cooled, nothing software-side can actually overheat it, even if it keeps the GPU at 100% utilization from here unto eternity. Unless the software is modifying hardware settings (and I don't think that you'll find City of Heroes OCing your GPU), there's no way any software should be able to force your card to overheat unless the card isn't properly cooled in the first place. This isn't necessarily true in your case, but I frequently see people adding big fat graphics cards into prebuilt PC cases that have a cooling system that isn't designed to support it (I'm looking at you, HP and Acer. And Dell. And... yeah, I could go on a while) or building their PC in a cheap, generic case because they couldn't see the point in spending more money on the one with the shiny lights and extra fans. Then they get upset when their card starts failing (and frequently ask me to "fix it").

Or it could be a bizzare driver/game engine issue. I find that more likely, since you aren't having problems with other games (and if any game is going to make your graphics card cook, it's Crysis). Are you monitoring your temperatures while playing CoH? If so, I'm curious what exactly they're hitting when/right before you crash.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My CPU idles at around 28 and hits about 40-45 playing CoH. I'm not sure about my GPU since Speed Fan can't find my graphics card, but none of my internal temps go over 50. I guess it's possible it isn't overheating, but there are signs of physical damage on the card, but I guess that could be old (not sure when it'd be from though, I don't think it'd be overheating, it isn't a huge clunky card and my case is properly cooled). Again, this isn't happening during times of extreme stress on the card. It's happening at the exact opposite times, when I'm standing around doing nothing or sitting at the character select screen even. Changing the graphic settings seems to have no effect. The texture glitches I am getting correspond with glitches you'd receive if your card was overheating, so naturally I'd think it was overheating. And, to boot, it happened with my old drivers, so I updated them to see if it would help, and it didn't.

When I crash my computer shuts down. Like everyone else I get multiple crashes, totally random.

    Specs:
    Intel Quad Core Q9650 3.0ghz
Dual EVGA GTS 250's in SLI
    8 Gigs PC6400 DDR2
    Asus NForce 750i MOBO (SLI)
    Monsoon 3 CPU Cooler
    600 Watt Thermaltake Power Supply

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit

My computer is freezing up and have to manually shutdown as well. Running XP Home edition with a GeForce 7600 GT. My video card is very suddenly overheating, but it doesn't seem to happen while I'm doing anything intense, rather when I'm just... standing around. Standing around in Pocket D at 4 in the morning, freeze, standing around in Atlas Park, freeze, letting CoH sit at the damn CHARACTER SELECT SCREEN even got me a freeze up. Yet, Crysis, TF2, any other games have all run just fine. I don't get any frame rate lag or indication of gradual overheating while playing CoH, it's like it's just VERY suddenly spiking up in heat and freezing. Video card shows signs of damage.
  7. It isn't. It's a CoH issue. I'm having the same problem. The card overheats during CoH, and only CoH. My temperatures read normal outside of and in CoH. Something in CoH causes the card temp to rapidly rise and freeze the computer or cause texture glitches.
  8. You laugh, but I'm dead serious. Something went very wrong with the last patch that is causing some people's graphics cards to violently overheat. My card has physical damage visible on it now. It wouldn't just randomly decide to start overheating and freezing my entire computer, forcing manual shutdown, while sitting at the character selection screen or standing around in Pocket D unless something was wrong. I've been playing TF2 and Crysis in the last few days as well. You'd think if my gfx card was overheating because of a problem on my end it would be giving me problems during those games as well, but it's only been having problems in CoH and only since the last patch went out.

And again, the funny thing is, it isn't giving me problems or crashing while I'm engaged in fighting massive amounts of enemies with full teams on full settings, when you think it might start overheating. It's overheating, giving me texture glitches and crashing while I'm specifically NOT doing anything intensive, such as running across a zone (even an unpopulated one like Brickstown), standing in Pocket D, Atlas, at the start of a mission waiting for everyone to zone in, and yes, even at the character select screen before logging in. I've locked up entirely and had to manually shut down in all of those situations.

    I got something like that on my 8800GT card, though more severe. However, it didn't just slow the fps down, it totally locked it up. In my case, the card was overheating, severely. <_<;;

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey, you aren't the only one. CoH destroyed my card. I'm pissed. This needs to be fixed immediately.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
The only thing I dislike is the confuse, as it's nothing like how any Electric set has been represented thusfar, and therefore a little out of left field. Plus, if the goal is to drain endurance, it's kind of at odds with that.

I also lament the lack of a Tree of Life-style summon that gives teammates back endurance.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Forget a summon. Human conduit. PBAoE SUPERCHARGE effect that acts like Transference without needing a target. 120 second recharge.

Course, now we're starting to get into an Electric buff set... Good... always bugged me how fire and ice got more love than elec...
  11. Sounds similar to the computer freeze glitch that happens to me. Are you sure it's just your monitor? Mine just freezes whatever image is on my CoH or, sometimes, makes my monitor go in standby mode. I just manually shutdown and start back up.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
I'm having the same issues, but only recently. Here's my Diag, if you can get some info off it. Thanks in advance.

I posted about this a few days ago, as well as some texture problems I was having that a friend now says he is having as well.

Everyone said it was on my end. Everyone said it was my card overheating and dying or drivers needing updating. I told them otherwise, they told me I was wrong. I've been playing Crysis and TF2 all day with no problems, and I'm pretty sure those games are more graphically intensive than CoH. These problems aren't caused by my card overheating or dying, or drivers needing updating (updated them a few days ago after these problems started). These problems JUST started after the last patch. PLEASE fix this problem. The FREEZE AND CRASH is especially annoying. It's happened to me 3 times today, once after being logged in only for a few minutes and again just now WHILE SITTING AT THE CHARACTER SELECT SCREEN. Is my video card overheating from a single model being displayed? I sincerely doubt it. Changing graphics settings in game seems to have no effect, these errors occur whether I'm at low or high settings. Changing my settings then applying will get rid of any texture glitches, but the CRASHES are my main problem.

tl;dr IT AINT OUR SYSTEMS ITS COH FIX IT PLEASE

Here's the real solution to farming, in three easy steps:

    Ignore it.
    Play your own game.
    Get on with your life.

    'Nuff Said.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with this. Seems like a small minority here is trying to impose their will upon the majority of players by crying to devs to eliminate experience or some other drastic changes. I am sure after a few more weeks the number of farms in AE buildings will be reduced as people lose interest in the new toy.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
He said that, as is painfully typical, a minority of people are trying to affect every person's game because the minority are now somehow unable to play the game how they want to. At least two doooom threads have asked the devs to eliminate XP from MA because some people farm the AE and this has ruined CoX.

Well, I'm with the OP. I love i14 and would hate to see the ninnies win the day here. No, I don't farm. I play other arcs and work on my own. Other than the fixes to clear bugs and improve arc creation, the only change I want to see is to give MA's a mission complete bonus.

    Say "no" to the ninnies.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree. Don't take the easy way out by eliminating or reducing XP from MA missions. Make it so spawns can't be all one rank, and reduce the exp Comm Officers yield (or simply make them unselectable when creating a custom group). This will make MA farming about as appealing as regular farming, except regular farming drops purple recipes. Eventually people will get over the shiny new AE farm toys and go back to farming in Peregrine Island.

Or you can just leave it be, I'm sure the farmstorm will die down eventually either way.
  15. How do you get into the closed beta anyways? They just pick players randomly or do you have to sign up or what?
  16. I have it in Tactics on my Controller and can honestly say I have never felt it go off... maybe it has and I just never noticed it. Is there ANY sort of graphical indication? Buff icon, build up sound/effect, anything?

This makes me cry for suspending my account for 2 years...

    But it's just so awesome!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same, only not quite 2 years. I started June 20th, 2004... so if I hadn't cancelled for a period, I would be getting the 60 month vet reward on June 20th, instead of... August 2010 .
  18. This web page does not display properly in Opera.
  19. Architect system sounds awesome. Shield defense is great, though I admit shield offense with it would be even better. Aside from STILL not fixing problems with Hero EATs, this sounds like a good issue and I am looking forward to it.
  20. Mops and plungers. For my Janitor character. Plunger would fit perfectly over the mace!!
  21. Is this where I post graphics I'd like to see available for weapon customization?

Because I'd really like to see a plunger graphic made available for the mace set. It'd fit right over the mace perfectly and would be great for comedic heroes out there (like my character The Janitor).
  22. boy it'd be nice to see some Hero RPers on Infinity..
