  1. Hi all,

I'm in the process of building my first base, and I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the different lighting options.

Do you use any personal rules about room light position/colour?

Have you found cool ways to combine room lighting with spotlights or lamps?

Have you discovered any neat-o tricks or effects you can create with lighting?

I've been playing this game for years, and I had no idea the base construction system was so deep and flexible, despite it's limitations. I'm loving this game-within-the-game. I could spend hours just re-positioning my TP beacons

Enough about me. On with the lighting discussion!

    Ooh, good question.
  3. 1. Yes, like all buffs and debuffs
    2. Umm, somewhat. It's not enhanceable, which limits it's effectiveness
    3. Against an even-con minion, it will reduce damage by the stated percentage. The damage enhancement issue faced by players is due to the assumption that most people run with ~95% damage bonus due to enhancements in their attack powers. -Dmg is basically a negative Damage bonus, and is subtracted from the total damage bonus on a character. I.E it'll do next to nothing to someone who is Fulcrum Shifted.
    4. Yes. It is subject to the purple patch as well, so it is resisted a bit by Bosses, and significantly as one moves up the con ladder.
    5. Not sure, I imagine stacking the -dmg from Kinetic Melee would work well with -dmg from darkest night and either Shield or Ice Armour.
  4. For years, I played mostly support toons, for the very reasons you cited above.

Just recently, rolled an MA/SD toon, and I'm lovin' every second. I forgot how much fun it is to just kick things until they're dead.

I have grant cover, and two AOE kd powers, for the odd time I feel the need to help the group.

    But I mostly kick stuff.

I look forward the the new Martial Combat set, looks fun. Must remember to pick an Ancillary Pool with a self-rez, I expect scrapperlock translated to Blasters'll give me plenty of opportunities to use it.

Dark Blast at point-blank range looks very 'here's a face-full of smoke for ya.' Hopefully the ST damage in Martial Combat is good enough to make up for skipping the tentacles of Midnight's Grasp

  7. Gonna try something here, 'cause I think the OP had some valid points which were obscured by her tendency to overstate things.

What I think she meant to say:

Blasters need the i24 survivability buffs to avoid being underpowered.
    I agree with this one
For my /Dev Blaster, this means I must take Cloaking Device or remain underpowered.
    This one too.

I especially dislike the transparency effect, because it obscures my costume.
I sorta agree with this one.
I work hard on my costumes, they are a fundamental part of my enjoyment of this game. If I can't see them, that character is 'broken' for me.
I sorta agree with this one. I often solo just so I can clearly see my costume without layers of team buffs all over it.

The power's other effects are not strong enough to make up for the costume issue, as the defense buff is too small when suppressed, and stealth isn't needed for my playstyle.
Don't necessarily agree with this one.

I think it's wrong for the devs to add the needed survivability buffs to a power that is a) not that great to begin with and More importantly b) that obscures my character's costume.

I dunno if this discussion is salvageable, but I think it's worth having.
  8. I'm working on a Ninja/Time.

Very fun, old master concept ripped off of Terry Pratchett's Thief of Time book.

Ninjas are squishy, they keep you on your toes.

I put the oppressive force proc in Geijin, for KD shenannigans
  9. I recently rolled a Beam/Rad Corr, and was pleasantly surprised to find that RI and EF do no cause redraw. Everything else does, but on a steam rolling team, or one where you are secondary support, you can get away with just those two and the occasional LR on hard targets.

    Lots of Pew Pew.

Curses, I thought I'd get bonuses for it.
Yep, that's a curiosity. That being said, I'm curious enough to want to see it!

I've run it several times with my /Rad Corr, and most of the time nothing happens. If there's any melee on the team, they won't run. If you hit them with LR, the running is so slow as to be unnoticeable.

Try forming a range-only team, hit the first AV (Sandra something?) with EF and RI, but not LR. Ask the team to avoid Slows,Immobilizes and -Jump.

You will see her run. Once ended up hovering while she ran through the rafters of the hideout.
  12. SOC is a bit more powerful than other comparable control powers. Fire and Earth's Disorients are on a 90 second timer, while SOC is on a 60 second timer. The fact it is long duration and contributes to damage makes it even more powerful. Also, Confuse tends to pull mobs closer together, the better for AOE blasty goodness.

Balancing factors are that the duration often doesn't apply if the mobs die fast enough, and the Cone area of effect is inferior to a targeted Sphere. This is especially important in situations where you don't have clear line of sight to the entire group of baddies. Still, even with those factors, SOC is probably the most powerful AOE control in the game (outside of the new Bonfire)

That being said, Fire has the (tied for) best single-target hold in the game, as well as massive damage from Hot Feet. Bonfire, of course, is broken with the new kb2kd.

Earth has Earthquake and VG. 'Nuff said.

Plant's Carrion Creepers are great damage, but are light on control. Also, they are not perma-able without recharge set bonuses. Plant has nothing to back up SOC. If SOC were nerfed, they'd need something. More KD in Creepers, maybe.

The entire Plant powerset would need to be rebalanced if the devs nerfed SOC.

Also, there are more important balance issues to be addressed in the game right now. (Blasters, Gravity and Ice control, Elec ranged sets.)

Personally, I'd rather the devs spend resources elsewhere for awhile.

Tex, you are right that it is the best control power in the game. But the control of the overall powerset, even with overpowered SOC, is less than what Earth, Mind, maybe Elec, or the current version of Fire bring to the table.
  13. I think a /Rad corruptor's strength is his versatility. You can adapt your playstyle to the situation. So if you find you are the only support on a team, by all means focus a bit more on your heals. But remember that Scourge increases in value later in the fight; once the GM/AV has less than 1/4 HP, your adjusted base damage is greater than a Blaster's. I'd say your role changes around then.

that doesn't make it fun. It just means that tons of people do it.
If I'm understanding you dug, you're saying you feel unable to build a deep character background consistent with the Praetorian world from the get-go.

I think you're unnecessarily constraining your creativity

In my first session of DnD 4ed, I first sat down with no notice. I decided to roll a Half-Elf Paladin, and the only character attribute I had time to think of was his fresh-faced naivete. I even pulled his name off a random list.

Having just this rough outline allowed me to evolve the character by riffing off the other players, developing extremely vivid character tics as we went along. He ended up with serious confidence and mommy issues, and I fleshed out his backstory to suit. He ended up being my best rp experience ever.

Since then, I leave the character creator with just one line in my description. Maybe two, if I want to broadly explain how I got the powers. I let that guide my interactions with people, and the game world. By level 30ish, I've added names, places and events to explain how I've acted so far, and use those new details to guide how I act afterward.

You seem to believe that a character background set in stone from level 1 is the only way to properly role play. If you try something different, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Final Line: It's not Mozart, it's Coltrane.

    GM Slayer!

I've not yet done it myself, but from what I understand 'tankerminds' need Provoke to reach their full potential as GM killers.
  16. "The melting point of purified water has been measured as 0.002519 ± 0.000002 °C, see R. Feistel and W. Wagner (2006). "A New Equation of State for H2O Ice Ih". J. Phys. Chem. Ref. Data 35 (2): 1021–1047. Bibcode 2006JPCRD..35.1021F. DOI:10.1063/1.2183324"

That's close enough for alternative rock. Now quit stomping on my mediocre joke.

That's a problem faced by any measurement scale. For convention's sake, we often choose a base point that makes intuitive sense from our own experience.

For temperature, we choose the melting point of water to peg 0 degrees Celsius
For COX, base defence is the melting point for Blasters.
  18. Hi there,

I recently upgraded to a 7850. It runs on better than max settings (200% textures) with absolutely no noticeable lag at all. I haven't tried it on incarnate content yet, but it survived the Nemesis zone content well.

This is paired with a Sandy Bridge i5 @ 4.4 GHz and 8 GB RAM.

All of this was at stock speeds; it also overclocks like a dream.

If COH is the only game you play, I think anything more will be overkill
  19. Jock, you just inspired me to activate a new account. I've not played this game since I3, and rumors of the controller nerf.

Thanks to you, my Dark/Sonic DarkKarma will be sheparding fluffies and pugs on Freedom in the weeks and months to come.

    NCSoft should give you commission.
